ld Confederate monuments and symbols seem to be constantly under scrutiny especially during this post-George Floyd period. I am not a historian. Although I have personal opinions on the matter of the Confederate flag, Confederate memorials, and the Civil War, my purpose here is to help the reader see both sides more clearly from an emotional-psychological standpoint.

CACTUS CHRONICALS: American Bolsheviks and Social Media Lynch Mobs

ven under the best of conditions, the practice of “civilization” tends to be a somewhat messy affair. Humanity has a long history, going all the way back to the Garden of Eden, of having difficulty in following the best path; I reference a rather well known account of a nefarious serpent providing maliciously erroneous information to unassuming people. Unfortunately, I must report that the serpent is alive and well in the modern world today, and is happily and enthusiastically directing talking points for much of major media!

The original goal of our Democratic Republic was more about providing a reasonably equitable environment for citizens to live, work, and raise their families in, as opposed to an arbitrary communistic system of dictatorship.

Our Founders promoted equality of opportunity, but not equality of results; this fact is apparently lost on many of our modern day social prognosticators!

The current crop of invasive punks, whose mailing address is in their parents basements, along with other rabble rousers on the streets who want to destroy our country and remake it into their socialist or communist fantasy, would do well to review the historical record of what happens to idealistic idiots when their puppeteer’s purposes are gained. Are these clowns really so stupid as to believe that millions of armed Americans are going to mimic gutless and or criminal so-called leadership, and give up hard earned homes and businesses to construct a socialist paradise?

Obviously, these nitwits are unfamiliar with the term: “Fire for Effect!”

Let’s cut to the chase: the real issue that our country is struggling with is

the battle for “other people’s stuff!”

The tragic videos we have all been subjected to in recent weeks has given license and opportunity for well-funded and well organized groups of Bolshevik types, including Antifa and Black Lives Matter, an excuse to riot, steal, batter others, (including other minority citizens) and even commit murder, while garnering praise from criminal office holders and globalists.

The planning was already done, with resources in place and just waiting for a suitable event to smokescreen their assault. And this sad and needless calamity has also given a number of woke celebrities and political prostitutes, demonstrating their feigned “righteous indignation” and “virtue signaling,” a platform to create what amounts to a social media lynch mob.

If the sanctity of Black Lives really mattered to most of the so-called “outraged-and-shedding-crocodile-tears” demonstrators, then the first group to be called to account for black murders would be other black people, who kill many more blacks than all other attacking groups combined, excepting, of course, for Planned Parenthood, which is far and away the main extinguisher of black lives.

If the truth be known, then much of this moral fury on display, is more about the re-distribution of wealth than concern for the well-being of any others, downtrodden or not. We don’t really know what happened in

Minnesota. We saw sickening pictures that we (as remote viewers) cannot verify to this point, and thus cannot make a rational or final judgment— that is what courts and juries are for. As a professional investigator, I have seen time and again where circumstantial evidence was wrong, and even eyewitnesses are not always reliable. And this is why mobs should not conduct hangings on the spot of a supposed crime!

The media has already had the trial and conviction, but who said media was ever impartial or objective!

There is a famous tombstone in Tombstone’s Boot Hill which reads: “He was right; we was wrong; we hung him anyway; now he’s gone!”

Other indications of communists at work would include the demand for “purity of intent,” whereas offenders must continually grovel and beg for forgiveness from self-appointed (or self-anointed?) moral judges, for supposed past politically incorrect thoughts and or actions. We can look to a number of examples of how this works out: the Chinese communists, in their rabid effort to achieve cultural cleansing and perfection, eliminated millions of their own citizens in the “Great Leap Forward,” and Pol Pot, the Cambodian monster, punished anyone who wore glasses, as it was suspected that they could actually read— these poor folks were under suspicion of being intellectuals, and REAL intellectuals don’t make good communists! And speaking of intent, the North Korean dictator had one of his military officers executed because said dictator didn’t think the officer clapped enthusiastically enough after one of his speeches!

A Legislature of Five Votes

I

n my last article, I touched on some important decisions that could have an impact on every one of you. If you remember your government class from high school, skip to the next paragraph. Our Nation was set up with three branches: legislative, executive, and Judicial.

The legislative branch is set up as a bicameral legislature with equal representation for each state in the Senate and population-based representation in the House of Representatives. The legislative is tasked with making the laws. Both the Senate and House must pass the same bill before it goes to the President to sign or veto.

The Executive is tasked with enforcing the laws as written. The President, however, has the power of the veto which is a quasi-legislative power. The legislature can override the veto with a two-thirds majority.

The judicial is tasked with interpreting individual conduct as it applies to the specific laws. Those determinations are called opinions and are binding on future conduct. In other words, if the legislature passes a law and it is not clear how it applies, the courts can determine what the law means. If the legislature disagrees with the court’s determination, they can pass a more specific law to correct the ambiguity.

District of Columbia v. Heller (right to bear arms 2008), Obergefell v.

Hodges (same-sex marriage 2015) and since then, Bostock v. Clayton County (sexual orientation is a protected class 2020). One common element is the typical divide over these issues by party affiliation. The other is that each of these decisions has a dissent that accused the majority of judicial activism or legislating from the bench.

In Bostock, Justice Kavanaugh wrote in his dissent that “[w]e are judges, not Members of Congress. And in Alexander Hamilton’s words, federal judges exercise ‘neither Force nor Will, but merely judgment.’ Under the Constitution’s separation of powers, our role as judges is to interpret and follow the law as written, regardless of whether we like the result. Our role is not to make or amend the law.” The dissent in Bostock goes on to detail the many times the legislature had tried to pass statutory protection but failed to do so, even during times when the same party had a majority in both the House and Senate. Justice Stevens in the Heller case similarly laments that “…today’s decision … will surely give rise to a far more active judicial role in making vitally important national policy decisions than was envisioned at any time in the 18th, 19th, or 20th centuries.”

Some may herald these decisions as victories for their cause, with the court accomplishing with a simple majority of five votes what 535 could not accomplish in the traditional process. The danger of this way of thinking is that the electorate is no longer subject to a nation of laws passed by representatives duly elected, but rather is subject to the whim of the court, which is appointed and merely confirmed by the senate. It seems like a good idea until the winds of change sweep the court and they no longer favor the laws that your ideology wishes were passed.

Judicial activism makes it impossible to act within the law because the lines

are ever-changing.

Legislation is so difficult to pass by design. A nation’s laws should reflect the will of the people and as such, social changes take time. According to Chief Justice Roberts in Obergefell, “Many people will rejoice at this decision, and I begrudge none their celebration. But for those who believe in a government of laws, not of men, the majority’s approach is deeply disheartening.”

I am a founding member of the Amarillo Federalist Society which among other things, means I oppose judicial activism. I am an American. I am a Texan. I am a Christian. I am a conservative and have NEVER voted as a Democrat in their primary. I received the majority of the votes cast on March 3, but due to an error in 2 counties, I need your votes again.

Our Declaration of Independence is a Conservative Document

ur nation was founded by a group of Conservatives seeking to free themselves and their Thirteen Colonies from the tyranny of the Eighteenth Century British Monarchy. Our Declaration of Independence is our Nation’s Founding Document.

Our Declaration of Independence chastised the tyrannical politics of King George III. It declared the political separation and the independence of the Thirteen Colonies from Britain.

Our Declaration of Independence recognizes that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.”

These Rights come from God and not from man or governments. The very purpose of our Federal government is to protect our God-given rights.

Our Declaration of Independence was the first recognition by a government that humans should not own other humans as slaves. No other government in history had ever done that before. The United States of America was the first government to take a stand against slavery, the only government in history to fight wars to end slavery, and currently the leading government

that is battling slave markets in Libya and elsewhere. The United States of America is the primary government addressing the sex slave trade that still exists worldwide.

The first 126 words in the Preface of our Declaration of Independence tell us five important foundational facts, There is a Creator.

Our Creator has given us certain unalienable rights.

God has an unchangeable moral law that governs men.

Our government is established to protect the rights God has given us.

We the People will be governed only with our consent.

Democrats have never liked these words. Woodrow Wilson summarized the feelings of his fellow Democrats, “If you want to understand the real Declaration of Independence, do not read the Preface.”

Our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution protect us from our government and from the corrupt and tyrannical politicians and bureaucrats who are allowed to populate our government. Without our Founding Documents, Democrats would enslave us and turn our country over to a New World Order run by Communists and Islamic Terrorists.

Foundational to our Constitution is our Declaration of Independence. Calvin Coolidge eloquently characterized its relevance and enduring importance, “It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. I’m Optimistic That Common Sense Will Prevail

What a mess ...

The tragic and unjustified death of George Floyd has shaken the soul of our nation and broken our collective hearts.

It is compounded by the realization that he was murdered by someone we should have been able to trust. It wasn’t just murder but preceded by eight agonizing minutes of torture. There is no excuse for what happened. There is no justification possible. I grieve for the Floyd family. I believe we all do.

As usual, a tragedy, that should spur positive change, has been hijacked, not for George Floyd or his family, but for a political ideology. The conversations are now all being directed by the extremists and it’s turned into violence and more death.

Majority?” I’ll coin the phrase here. I think it’s a great descriptive label for most Americans.

What does the “common-sense majority” want? They want to be safe.

They want to be left alone to raise their families, build their careers, and start small businesses. They want the opportunity to own their home and pursue the American Dream.

There is no color attached to the common-sense majority. I believe most black, brown, and white parents want the same. They want to build a happy and successful family and safe life.

Above all, they want to know when their kids leave home, they’ll safely return.

Yes, black lives matter. I have no problem saying it. I believe it. It doesn’t mean that all lives don’t matter, it just means that the average black person in America is at greater risk. Unfortunately, the idea that black lives matter has been hijacked to become a political hashtag, and the common-sense majority see it. Most are just afraid to say it because if you disagree with any part of the narrative, you risk being verbally assaulted.

Looting, burning, and destroying property is not a form of legitimate protest. Those politicians and political leaders defending these actions are only perpetuating the problem to gain favor with those committing violence.

We all know the name George Floyd and should ... but does the name Miosotis Familia ring a bell? Probably not.

She’s not given much attention at all and there is a reason.

ABC reported, “An on-duty New York City police officer was killed early Wednesday after a gunman walked up to a police vehicle and fired one round through a window, authorities said.

Officer Miosotis Familia, a 12-year veteran assigned to the New York City Police Department’s 46th Precinct’s anti-crime unit, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, where she was pronounced dead at 3:37 a.m.

ET. She was 48 years old, according to police sources.”

What the above statement didn’t say is that she was black. Much was made of George Floyd’s color but not Miosotis Familia. Did her black life not matter? The truth is that her story didn’t fit the narrative, so her life didn’t matter to this movement. Her death didn’t advance their agenda, so there will be no protests on her behalf. Do you see the disconnect? Don’t all black lives matter?

So, this column is entitled “Positively Speaking!” What’s positive about any of this?

I believe cooler heads will prevail.

I believe in the American spirit. While many of our political leaders are bowing down to the political agenda and threatening the defunding of police departments, or disbanding them completely, I don’t believe the majority of common-sense Americans, left or right, of any color, race or religion will allow that to happen. To believe if we didn’t have police, anyone’s life would be safer is nonsensical to the common-sense majority.

Members of the common-sense majority are often silent but consistently vote. They direct their dollars into causes they believe in. I know most protestors are peaceful and well-meaning, law-abiding citizens who are

saddened and hurt. Unfortunately, the criminal element arrives, and the legitimate protestors go home as their protest is hijacked by an angry mob with a violent and destructive purpose.

The common-sense majority will not violently protest, loot, or burn buildings. They deeply care but will not hurt others or destroy property to make their point. They support common-sense politicians and vote out, for example, those who believe a nation without police would not devolve into chaos and mob rule.

The common-sense majority of all race, religion, or political leanings must stand up and be counted. I believe they will. We cannot let our nation devolve into a lawless society run by those manipulating emotion and causing harm for their political gain. Yes, I said we.

I am a member of the common-sense majority.

We as a nation are better than this.

I continue to grieve and pray for the family of George Floyd. We must demand justice, but I also grieve for the family of Officer Miosotis Familia.

Does her family not deserve justice also?

I’m optimistic. Common sense will prevail.

with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions.

If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction cannot lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers.”

We Americans are at a fork in the road. One path leads to our increased slavery under the boot of an oppressive government that promises equality of outcome to everyone. Under such a Democrat Socialist government, everyone other than the ruling Elite would be equally miserable.

The other path returns us to our original Constitution and to Liberty. It returns us to a limited Federal government and to the opportunities of America’s founding. It gives us the freedom to work hard and to take great risks without the oppressive boot of government on our necks. It returns us to the American Dream and to American Exceptionalism. It allows us to return God to the public square, to politics, and to the very heart of our government. We must choose Liberty!

Ronald Reagan warned us that we could lose our freedom very quickly, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

The American people have come to realize that we could lose our freedom

A Judge’s Closing Argument for Voters

B

efore I was appointed to serve as your Justice on the Seventh Court of Appeals, one of my favorite activities as an attorney was presenting closing arguments to the jury. As we near Election Day again, please consider this to be my “Closing Argument” for all voters of the Panhandle and South Plains: “You can’t fool all the people all of the time.”

These words are attributed to Abraham Lincoln, perhaps our greatest president in U.S. history. While Lincoln was loved by many, he was also despised by others, as people spread lies and wrongfully sought to undermine his character. Their efforts failed,

and Lincoln’s continued legacy serves as a reminder that actions speak louder than words.

In this election, I’ve been simultaneously called a “Democrat” and a “Republican Party Insider.” Neither statement is true. Many of you have witnessed first-hand how Governor Abbott’s office reached out to me, encouraging me to apply for appointment to the Court of Appeals. I’ve been fully investigated, questioned, and vetted.

My successful history with the federal court system and as an attorney is undisputed. Every Republican official making an endorsement has selected me as their choice for continued service on the court. Seventy-five percent of area attorneys have done the same.

These objective facts are clear and point only in my direction.

candidate with any judicial experience and the only one who has any relevant experience in handling disputes over your businesses and your property rights. While my opponent has handled some criminal appeals (I’ve actually handled more), that is his only area of appellate experience.

Voters expect the judges on the court of appeals to have judicial expertise; it’s not the time for on-the-job training.

The final undisputed evidence has been shown over the last few weeks.

We’ve learned that the Teamsters Union (the same group that underwrites Adam Schiff) has donated money to affect the outcome of this election (hint: they’re not voting for me). And when we discovered that voters were deprived of the opportunity to vote because of an error by election officials, I was the only one on the ballot who stood up to protect the voters’ constitutional rights. When I won, voters won too. Voters should decide which actions are consistent with their conservative values and expectations for our courts.

So far, 2020 is like looking both ways before crossing the street and then getting hit by an airplane!

We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Masks!

I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!”

No, t h i s respon se wa s not George Floyd. It was me complaining to the people at our local DMV. They made everyone wear a mask the whole time while in the building. And if you know anything about the “wait time” at any DMV, you might understand my plea.

Every time I put the mask below my nose to catch a breath, I was told I must keep it up over my nose. When I lifted the lower part of the mask to sneak some air, I was frowned upon as well. You would have thought we were attacked by some kind of contagious disease that spreads rapidly and kills many people, right?

Now that we have gathered the data and know better the facts about

COVID-19, our fears should have dissipated by now. So, what are the facts, and why are we still operating under fear and dread?

According to a recent compilation of data by “Backgrounder” (May 23, 2020), Norbert J. Michel Ph.D. and Doug Badger conclude several pertinent points:1) The pandemic remains geographically concentrated, 2) COVID-19 is primarily a threat to the elderly, 3) Those with comorbidities face higher risks, 4) Public officials are failing to protect those in nursing homes, 5) The case fatality rate appears to be less than initially feared, 6) U.S. hospital capacity has so far proven robust, and 7) Widespread curbs on non-emergent care are ill-advised.

Some commonsense conclusions refer to the importance of a healthy immune system and using herd immunity; This

concept refers to the community-wide resistance to the spread of a disease when we “hang out together.” Having a policy of social distancing or lockdowns are evidencing unfavorable results.

But, what about the masks?

Peggy Hall of TheHealthyAmerican.org substantiates that science says healthy people should NOT wear masks! Masks reduce the intake of oxygen, leading to carbon dioxide toxicity.

Germs are trapped near your mouth and nose, increasing the risk of infection. Wearing a mask causes you to touch your face more frequently. There is no scientific evidence that supports healthy people wearing masks. Masks obscure facial features and impede normal social interaction. Masks make it hard for hearing-impaired people to understand you. Masks symbolize suppression of speech. Hmmm, now that’s an interesting point!

Other findings show that masks do NOT prevent the spread of the virus according to New England Journal of Medicine: “We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection.”

CAL-OSHA Regulations: “Cloth face coverings do not protect against COVID-19.” California Department of Health: “Face coverings may increase risk if users reduce their use of strong defenses. There is limited evidence to suggest that the use of cloth face coverings by the public during a pandemic could help reduce disease transmission.” FDA—“Even a properly fitted N95 mask does not prevent illness or death.” CDC—“There is no scientific evidence for healthy people wearing masks.” Neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock: “There is no scientific evidence that masks are effective. If you are not sick, you should not wear a face mask.” Columbia University: Psychological Harms of Face Masks: “Many young children burst into tears or recoil when someone wearing a mask approaches. Choices, Counting, and Exceptional Citizenship

an you believe the numbers?

Polls, Covid-19 cases, votes, “experts say”, our government leaders’ projections, etc. contain numbers we are asked to believe. In our household, we raised three children.

One of the phrases we consistently repeated was “Truth is both fragile and strong. However, once broken, trust takes a long time to restore”.

A Constitutional Republic requires earning and preserving the trust of “We the people”. Telling the truth and guarding trust remain necessary building blocks in the foundation of any strong relationship. Trust between government officials and the governed requires that such trust must always be sacred.

You and I live in a time and country unique to all of human history.

“Together, we will get through this” has flashed across our collective screens for months. For the past 244 years, Americans have divided themselves into three kinds of citizens. I would suggest those three types are the “Status quo”, the “Radicals” and the “Lukewarm neutrals”. On July 4,1776, “Radicals” dedicated their “lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor” to gift to this nation freedoms that define our Constitutional Republic.

On November 2, 2020, registered voter’s ballots will be counted in the process of choosing the 46th President of the United States of America. The freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this exceptional country must be defended by every generation or be lost. Lost because its citizens failed to exercise their voting responsibilities as participants in this grand experiment of self-governance and equal opportunity.

“We the people” are words that began the journey declaring our independence from being governed by kings or dictators. In the last few months, we have watched and experienced how

officials have abused their power in deciding for us what and who were essential and non-essential to our well-being. We must be vigilant in choosing to vote for leaders that truly understand that they were elected to serve us and not make us servants to their unauthorized whims and notions.

We cannot allow disillusionment, indifference, and a sense of futility to govern our choices about defending our individual and national freedoms.

“Give me liberty or give me death” cannot be the passion of the few, but of every citizen that cares about the legacy we have inherited or desires to pass on to the next generation.

Our individual family history shapes many of our passions. If we were born into financial riches, we are tempted to take for granted the privilege of wealth. An attitude of gratitude must be taught to our children intentionally or it will be taught by the pain of their bad choices.

A great republic requires that its citizens understand that the rich heritage it enjoys must be bought, with a price, by every generation. Ownership won by personal sweat and effort will be appreciated far more deeply than ownership assumed to be a right and not something that must be earned.

“America is a creedal nation” is a quote from an exceptional book written by a young Senator, Ben Sasse. The title of the book is The Vanishing American Adult. He believes that the freedoms that a representative constitutional form of government provides requires a shared creed or beliefs about dignity and freedom for all. He details in his book the problem that threatens an exceptional America. That problem is that mature adults are not willing to exercise their responsibilities of self-reliance. For example, America is not about creating “safe zones” to protect the sensitivities of every subgroup that cannot tolerate hurtful conversation. It is not government power that

must protect us from “microaggressions” in speech. Passivity and lack of exceptional citizenship initiative becomes fertile ground for the seeds of socialism.

What must exceptional citizens decide in the coming months? I would offer that exceptional citizens can no longer allow our local, state, and nationally elected officials to govern without accountability.

Every citizen must encourage their neighbors to participate in their duty to vote.

Every demographic group must take seriously the effort to inform themselves of what a candidate stands for.

The color of our skin ought not cause us to decide whom we vote for.

Lukewarm citizens do not deserve a nation sacrificially defended by passionate patriots. Exceptional citizens

must talk boldly about the shared beliefs that a creedal nation must uphold. These shared beliefs are “freedom of speech (vs safe zones); freedom of the press (not censorship of ideas, i.e. Google, YouTube, etc.) freedom of worship and assembly (essential gatherings for all)”.

Generational bridges must be built and kept open regarding the necessary dialogue about ideals and ideas that nurture a healthy self-governed nation.

We love what and who we know. Let us renew our efforts to know and love this nation. It was gifted to us by blood spilled here and on foreign soil.

the value of hard work and to never trust the weather. I expect the rules to be upheld, I expect fairness, and I expect individuals to be held accountable for their actions. West Texans have a love for liberty, and understand that authority without freedom is tyranny, but freedom without legitimate authority is anarchy.

I was fortunate to attend and receive my law degree from one of the nation’s top law schools, Indiana University, where I served as Editor-in-Chief of a prestigious law journal and President of the Federalist Society. Most importantly, it’s where I met my wife, Christiana. Soon, I felt West Texas pulling at me again and returned to Lubbock, where I have served as an Assistant District Attorney under Bill Sowder, Matt Powell, and our current DA, Sunshine Stanek.

My wife and I are raising our daughter on a small farm in Wolfforth with horses, chickens, dogs, and the occasional snake.

St. Luke’s Methodist Church is our spiritual home, and I consider myself fortunate that I can give my daughter the kind of upbringing I benefited from – one founded in love for God, family, and country.

I have served the public my entire professional career for 17 years, fighting crime and fighting for victims of crime in every courtroom in the courthouse.

Throughout that time, I have developed a reputation as tough, but fair, handling all types of criminal cases. I am a constitutional conservative - I don’t merely adopt those labels, but I know what they mean, why they developed, and how to put them into action.

The rule of law is a foundation of our governmental system. Unless a society believes that none are above the law, and those responsible for enforcing it have nothing but the most serious dedication to justice and defense of the United States and Texas Constitutions, we cannot expect that society

to believe in any of our other institutions or traditions. Our judges must not only pledge to uphold the law and those venerated documents but must constantly and consciously strive to uphold them daily and not overstep their bounds. The individual rights of a defendant must be upheld. Victims must be heard. The State must be held to its burden of proof. And if all the rules have been followed and an accused has been determined guilty, an appropriate, just punishment must be handed down.

This is why Texas (rightly) allows the people to elect trial judges.

Several have predicted the number of voters in the Republican primary runoff will range between 11,000 and 15,000. Such a small percentage means not only does every vote count, but every vote is significant.

Our judicial system is the best in the world, but that does not mean it is perfect. There are abuses of the system that can be addressed, and the overarching concept of a government that serves the citizens (not the other way around) can be reinforced and refocused by choosing the right judges.

Decisions made as a prosecutor (“to see that justice is done”) are, in many ways, more akin to the considerations a judge must hold. Accordingly, I promise you: Prompt rulings, trials, and resolutions to matters pending in the court Diligence in addressing case backlog, and an understanding that “Justice delayed is justice denied” Decorum, respect, fairness, and impartiality to all appearing before the court Decisions based on the law, regardless of personal feelings or relationships A judge who presides with integrity, experience, and ethics, employing a demonstrated knowledge of the law, and a long history of seeing that justice is done Appropriate sentences to ensure the safety of the community, including SEE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE | PAGE 25

Hysteria, Hypocrisy, and Hatred

n fa r too ma ny cases today, when something tragic happens which sparks a genuine display of protest, it is almost immediately hijacked for political purposes by instigators. As we’ve seen happen with the George Floyd protest resulting in near nationwide rioting, looting, and burning. While the pain and anguish experienced by the Floyd family and others who initially marched and peacefully protested, the message was quickly lost to the shouts, rants, and hatred from organized, politicized, mobs.

How and why would this happen you might ask? There are three ingredients to this violent formula: race, the media, and well-funded far-left groups.

First, there was a white police officer and a Black victim. This gives us the first ingredient, race.

Second, the MSM (Mainstream Media) immediately jumped on the bandwagon with endless news cycles that quickly fanned the flames promoting violent reactions to the situation as it grew from a small, local, peaceful demonstration into large, violent, mobs across the country.

Third, left wing groups that are well organized, well-funded, and completely motivated by their leftwing agenda seized the opportunity to insert agitators, instigators, and willing participants to spark the crowds into looting and burning.

The formula for this type of situation goes back to leftist playbooks developed by Marxist, Socialist, Communist revolutionaries throughout history. Add in the insanely powerful social media platforms and a peaceful crowd of a couple of hundred people can grow into violent mobs numbering in the thousands or more.

Observing none of the warnings for civility, peace, or love, the MSM and social media have become deaf, dumb,

and blind to the rage and hatred which is spewed on their respective platforms to incite others. Not only do the MSM and social media platforms allow and tolerate the hatred but are complicit and willful partners in perpetuating it by their willingness to condone it.

After all, those who own and control the MSM, social media, and academia are mostly of the same far-left, radical ilk which foments this revolutionary form of ideology spurred on by a deep, seething hatred of America, Christianity, and our way of life going back to the Founding Fathers.

The far left would much rather install some European style model under the banner of some fictitious New World Order. Far-left academics and politicians have long dreamt and hungered for a feasible way to convert America into a Venezuela-like state. This would be the result of a transfer of power, wealth, and property from individuals to a Government controlled by the Leftists of course.

Life under a far-left controlled government would be far from what anyone can even imagine. Think about

what the far left democrats desire and force upon us already. How well do freedom-loving Americans fare under far-left controlled states with punitive taxes and strangulation of regulations?

Miles of red tape and hoops to jump through and endless reams of mindless regulations promoting the far-left agenda result in near strangulation of capitalism and the free market system which built America.

Consider the all-out assault on our Constitutionally guaranteed rights like “Freedom of Speech” or the Second Amendment and firearm ownership just to name the first two. Have democrats not tirelessly sought to remove these rights completely for many, many years already? Do you think that if successful in getting rid of the first two that they would be satisfied and stop there? NO! Drunk on unfettered, unrestrained power, and the ability to control nearly every aspect of our lives, they would continue the impending slide into all-out tyranny. Just look at what has already happened with leftist Governors and Mayors during the Covid19 Pandemic.

How long before we would all be forced to submit completely to the oppressive dictates of far-left ideology? Have we not already witnessed instances of this already happening?

Consider the tyranny of the left concerning political correctness and how it is used to beat us into submission.

How has Christmas been doing anywhere other than Christian communities which embrace and celebrate the holiday for the reasons originally established, the birth of Jesus Christ?

What has happened with the LGBT agenda which originally was stated to promote LGBT individuals being treated fairly? Now, the agenda is promoted nationwide from Kindergarten through College (and beyond) and the very definition of marriage has been morphed from the original intention of being between one man and one woman to now include same-sex and whatever else the far left decides is acceptable.

Today, under the guise of “Institutional Racism” we are hearing outrageous demands to defund and dismantle the Police. Racism is neither the prevailing emotional response nor is it institutional throughout the law enforcement community with many law enforcement agencies being comprised of non-white, non-male officers.

The racism resides primarily in the hearts and minds of the far left who seek to use it as a weapon to promote their agenda damaging the law enforcement community based a deep hatred which the Left harbors.

So why does it seem that everyone, and everything which opposes the farleft ideology or far-left democrats in the media, politics, or culturally need to be completely destroyed, changed, or transformed into the image of what they believe?

It’s Not ‘Just a Criminal Court’...

O

ver the past few months, I have received several questions about the 140th District Court. Two of these questions are “What types of cases are handled there?” and “Why are you the candidate best suited to be the next Judge of the 140th District Court?”

Let’s start with a little background on the Lubbock County District Courts.

Lubbock County has six District Courts. Each of the District Courts have their own number, but that number only applies to when the Texas Legislature created the Court. It has nothing to do with the geographic area that makes up the “district.” Of the six District Courts in Lubbock County,

all are designated as “courts of general jurisdiction.” This simply means that any matter which is appropriate to bring to a District Court, can be brought. This includes civil lawsuits, felony criminal matters, and family law matters.

Approximately 20 years ago, the Local Administrative Rules of the District Courts and the County Courts-At-Law of Lubbock County were amended and approved. The six District Courts were divided so that three of the Courts hear primarily criminal matters, and the other three Courts hear primarily civil matters. All six still hear family law matters.

Often you will hear the 140th District Court referred to as a “criminal court.” While it is true that the 140th District Court is one of the three Courts

to primarily hear criminal matters, that is only a portion of the caseload. According to the Lubbock County Office of Court Administration, in 2019 there were 840 criminal cases filed into the 140th District Court, but there were also 194 new family law cases and 231 civil cases filed into the 140th. As of June 8, 2020, the most current statistics I could obtain before writing this article, there had been 344 criminal, 78 family, and 82 civil cases filed into the 140th District Court this year, and the pending caseload in the 140th District Court consists of 911 criminal cases, 101 family cases, and 174 civil cases.

As you can see from the numbers, anywhere from about a quarter to a third of the business done in the 140th District Court is family and civil law cases, not criminal law. Also, with the Court being one of general jurisdiction, it is possible that dockets across the six District Courts could be “equalized” to give every Court a comparable caseload, should one or more Courts end up with too many or too few cases.

Why is this important? It is important in answering the question of why I am the candidate best suited to be the next Judge of the 140th District Court. My background, in the law, is the most diverse of the candidates seeking election.

I graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law over 20 years ago. During my time as a law student, I worked over a year for a law firm that almost exclusively handled civil litigation matters. After taking the bar exam, I began working for the Lubbock Criminal District Attorney’s Office. I’ve spent close to twelve years working as an Assistant District Attorney in Lubbock, Levelland, and San Antonio. The other part of my legal career has been a combination of working in the areas of criminal defense, civil law, and family law. No one else seeking this position has worked as both a prosecutor and

a defense attorney, while also having handled both family law and civil law cases. I’ve tried over 90 cases, before juries, in multiple Courts across the South Plains. Additionally, I have worked to resolve disputes as both a mediator and an arbitrator.

Every one of the District Courts in Lubbock County needs a Judge who is well rounded, competent in all areas that may come before them, and prepared to make decisions based upon the facts and the law, as it should be applied. As an old white male, I understand being told my color is why I couldn’t get a job or entrance into a university. I am chastised because 150 plus years ago, some White people owned slaves in America. I see Black students burning and looting Black businesses because they were not allowed to drag a bad cop out of jail and hang him from the nearest tree. Sad to say, that was done to Blacks years ago when the Democrat party formed the KKK under the guise of “teaching Blacks their place in society”.

Before the Wuhan Chinese Flu pandemic hit, America’s Black and Hispanic employment had reached record highs, but socialist Democrats could not allow that to stand. Those offshore (think China) manufacturing jobs were gone forever according to President Obama, and a magic wand was the only way they would return. Son of a gun, Republican businessman and President Donald J. Trump waved that star-tipped wand, sprinkled stardust on it, said a few magic incantations (think renegotiated deals), and manufacturing jobs began to return.

Did Democrats shout hallelujah for this terrific boon to America’s economy? No way! They voted to impeach him with no Republican votes. Republicans knew the charges were phony.

Trump figured that out years ago but to Democrats gaining back power trumps saving America…pun intended.

Please understand the Democrat vote to impeach Trump was based on lies THEY made up with money from Hillary and the DNC. As they kept the pressure on to remove Trump, investigations were finding more and more proof the Democrats under the Obama administration, were using the DOJ, FBI, and government resources to fight the opposition party (Republicans), with TAX $$$. That is illegal. If one looks back at the IRS under Obama and

Lois Lerner, conservatives were denied tax-exempt 501c3 status, but liberals got theirs quickly. When Ms. Lerner was called before congress to answer for this, she took the Fifth rather than testify, then retired. So, as things stand now in our government, a cheat can do wrong against the opposition party, refuse to testify, then retire. That is a great deal if one is on the government payroll, has no conscience or ethics, and is willing to retire with cushy pay.

There is no proof to back systemic racism in America. The fact is Blacks and minorities have been given special treatment since the 1960s with Affirmative Action. So, if any racial bias is in play, it is against White men in America and has been for over half a century. That will shock many, but it is easy to prove. After the Rodney King situation, many reforms were instituted in police departments across America. Blacks and women were hired along with other minorities. Some tactics were modified, added, or eliminated, as training also changed. After each incident that made any department look bad, changes were made where

necessary. I worked with a police department for a decade from 1993 to 2003 in a city of 10,000 south of Dallas. Being responsible for the officer’s patrol cars as the shop superintendent, and their guns as a federally licensed gunsmith, I got to know many of them well. I returned a gun I repaired to an officer, and the next day he had to use it to shoot a man to keep him from shooting his partner… the bad guy died. The officer and I talked several times about it as Christians.

Maybe it is time to look at the other side of the coin as it relates to the Black community and crime. Cops are there because crime is there. Shootings happen because, in many police-involved scenes, someone is high on drugs, or drunk, and fight the cops.

DEFUND POLICE is the dumbest thing I have heard from any community, and I am sure Black people are NOT for it. Leaders in the community need to help solve THEIR problems and stop pointing at others. I am an old White man and I can’t fix it. Cops today are all colors, and they can’t fix it. The government sure can’t because history

What is the definition of the word? An insistent and peremptory request made as if by right.

What is wrong with the USA today? Too many people want what they don’t have and want what they have no right to have.

Twenty year old’s demand that those in charge of cities, colleges, sports teams, and businesses listen to how they think these operations should be run. Where and when did they get knowledge and experience to do give this advice? They have stipulations, ultimatums, and demands that others must follow to be in line with how they think and how they want it done. All with very little to no life experience.

They need to be thankful they live in the USA. They need to protect and respect our nation, not try to destroy it.

JUDGE KARA DARNELL: A Texas Constitutional Conservative

I

’m Judge Kara Darnell and I’m a Republican candidate for District Judge of the 99th District Court.

I grew up in Plainview, Texas, and graduated from Texas Tech University and Texas Tech Law School.

When it was announced the 99th District Court would become vacant in 2020, I was urged by many attorneys and fellow Judges to seek this position. I believe they were aware of my Conservative values as a person and as a Judge. I am married to Jim Bob Darnell and our family lives in Lubbock. My parents raised me, quite literally, at the First

Baptist Church of Plainview. When the doors of the church were open, we were there. My faith in God and my relationships with family are the most important things in my life.

My husband and I are members of Second Baptist Church of Lubbock where I have long been very active and served in many leadership roles.

In previous issues of Caprock Patriot, you may have read about me and my experience. To reiterate, I have over 10 years of experience in private practice with civil and family law cases.

However, what sets me apart from my opponent is my six and a half years of experience as a Judge. Lubbock needs an experienced Judge for District Court, and I have that experience.

Every week I hold contested hearings,

listen to testimony, make rulings on evidence, and then make decisions for our families. There is no substitute for service as a Judge.

Right now, because of COVID 19, I hold court almost every day online through a teleconference program. I am proud to say that when COVID became an issue in March, my court experienced very little downtime, we made adjustments, and we continue to make sure cases are being resolved. I believe that even during this pandemic, justice delayed is justice denied. I believe this approach is consistent with my reputation for running a hard-working Court in Lubbock County. WORLDVIEW OF THE NATURE OF HISTORY It is often remarked that “history repeats itself.” Is that true? It appears to be true. However, it is not what it appears to be. The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that from the point of the beginning, the inception of anything is moving towards its end. Therefore, the timeline of history does not repeat itself. It moves steadily forward toward its end. History does not repeat itself. History is linear. The nature of history is linear.

WORLDVIEW OF HUMAN NATURE Human nature is always the same in every generation. Like the nature of water to run downhill seeking the lowest level, human nature left to itself runs downhill into the lowest level of corruption. The repeating conflicts of human nature in each generation are always between the wise virtues of liberty and the foolish vices of lawlessness.

In every generation of mankind from the beginning of time-history to the end of time-history, as we know it, there have been and will be conflicts between the virtues of liberty and the vices of lawlessness. It has been this way at every level of human relationships between one another, family, friends, communities, governments,

nations all along the entire timeline of history. Human nature repeats itself in every generation. For better. Or for worse.

So, we should not be surprised at the conflicts in our lives and going on around us in our culture. We are constantly faced with challenges and choices, life circumstances. What course of action will we choose to resolve these conflicts?

Like our Founding Fathers let us choose the worldview of the virtue of liberty. Let us choose to be a part of the solutions to the problems being caused by the conflicts between the virtues of liberty and the vices of lawlessness. Let us be problem solvers. Not, problem causers.

THE WORLDVIEW STRUGGLE There always has been and there always will be the struggle between principled and unprincipled human beings at every level of society and authority.

Sincere principled human beings will choose to take the high moral ground of wise virtuous character.

Sincere principled human beings will live in accountability under the true authority of liberty. Self-serving unprincipled human beings reject accountability to the true authority of liberty. Instead, they choose to take the low immoral ground of vile corrupt character. These self-serving unprincipled human beings will

Stop Pandering to Leftists’ Systemic Racism “Big Lie”

olks, I realize many of you are going through the same range of emotions as I am as I watch leftists’ full-blown war on our country. One part of me wants to produce a YouTube video in which I scream at all the idiots pandering to the scumbag hate groups ANTIFA and Black Lives Matters. The other part of me says Lloyd you must remain calm and simply deliver facts.

In the Bible, Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den for refusing to kneel in worship to a government leader. Daniel said he only kneels to the true God. Here in the United States of America, ANTIFA is demanding that white America literally kneel in worship to Black Lives Matter, an evil false god.

Shockingly, Democrat congressional members, mayors, and governors; major corporations, churches, and indoctrinated white youths are kneeling.

Etched on my brain is the image of the sea of yellow school buses I saw as a child with my dad at the 1963 March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.

I heard Dr. King say, “I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.”

“I have a dream that one day....there in Alabama little Black boys and little Black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and little white girls as brothers and sisters.”

Dr. King would be appalled how his vision of racial equality and unity has been perverted into an anti-Christian movement which demands that whites hate themselves, kneel and beg forgiveness for being born white.

Fake news media and Democrats repeatedly use the bullying tactic dictating what everyone must say and think about an issue. Anyone who dares to

go against their narrative is high-tech burned at the stake in the public square.

Here are a few examples of the growing long list of topics we are not allowed to tell the truth about.

People have been fired for stating the scientific fact that a man cannot transform into a woman. A broadcaster was fired for stating the biblical truth that “all lives matter”.

Leftists’ latest “Big Lie” that we don’t dare reject is America is irreversibly infected with “systemic racism.” Sadly, and frustratingly, Christian broadcasters, corporations, and politicians are on their knees, bombarding us with TV commercials pledging to fix the cruelty Blacks are suffering at the hands of

racist white America. Their cowardly surrender to the “Big Lie” turns my stomach!

Joseph Goebbels said, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.”

As a proud and grateful American who happens to be Black, I challenge leftists to show me this mythical “systemic racism” which is supposedly making life in America hell for me and my fellow Blacks.”

Systemic racism is a big lie to keep Blacks voting for Democrats who have been promising to fix it for over 50 years. The real and greatest enemy of Black Americans is “monolithic loyal voting for Democrats.” Every city in

which Blacks are suffering from failing schools, Black-on-Black homicides, fatherless households, gangs, drugs, incarcerations, and poverty have been controlled by Democrats for decades.

If BLM was really about empowering Blacks, they would angrily protest Democrats rather than white Americans, statues, old movies, U.S. history, and free speech.

I don’t know about you guys, but I am so done with leftist political hacks being allowed to bully the masses into embracing their divisive, racial-hate-generating, anti-Christian and evil socialist/communist agenda.

President Trump’s speech at his rally in Tulsa, OK, further confirmed that despite fake news media, Democrats, Deep-Staters, and #NeverTrumpers’ unprecedented evil and unlawful efforts to transform him into a sycophant of the Washington DC swamp, Trump remains solidly one of us. He understands us. He talks like us. And, he wants what we want for America!

Praise God! Our president said, “The choice in 2020 is very simple. You want to bow before the left-wing mob? Or, do you want to stand up tall and proud as Americans?”

“Joe Biden and the Democrats wanna prosecute Americans for going to church, but not for burning a church.”

“They believe you can riot, vandalize, and destroy, but you cannot attend a peaceful pro-America rally.”

My fellow Americans, we are so blessed to have President Donald J. Trump.

Remarkably, Trump has been able to defeat Democrats’ long list of schemes to transform our country away from the divinely inspired vision of our Founding Fathers.

Know Who You Support!

ver the past couple of weeks, we have seen a large number of people claim solidarity with Black Lives Matter. While I am sure that the majority of these people are intelligent and well-meaning people who truly respect all lives, no matter the race, color, age, etc…

I am just as certain that the majority of those well-meaning people would be horrified if they truly understood that to which they are claiming solidarity and support.

BLM is not an organization that is seeking peace for all people, such as Martin Luther King Jr. did when he proclaimed his dream of a country where children of all races would play together and each person would be seen as an individual with potential, not as a skin color. Martin Luther King Jr did not live to see that day, but it did come to this country just as he desired.

Nor does BLM practice the civilized and peaceful methods of bringing attention to their cause as Martin Luther King Jr. did. When one reads the manifesto or mission on the BLM website one will find that they do not support peace, but violent means of accomplishing their agenda. One will also find that their agenda has nothing to do with racial equality. Instead, it

has to do with destroying the values, accomplishments, and goodness of this country at all costs. One will read where BLM desires to destroy all capitalism, thus the violent destruction of businesses and the harming of business owners. One will also read that BLM promotes abortion of babies of all races and the lack of fathers in the home, claiming that these bring safety and health to the family. The more one reads of their mission on the website, the more one will realize that these people do not care about life. Their aim is power. There is no love for their neighbor or desire for peace.

This has been exemplified in their actions over the past few weeks as they destroy anything and anyone in their path.

And all of this is well funded by other socialist and communist organizations within this country who also hate all that this country has accomplished and stood for in our great history. Even the equality of races is not to their liking.

Yet, they benefit from the blessings of living here. I hope that the well-meaning people who truly are concerned for the lives of their neighbors will peacefully extend a loving hand where it is needed and build relationships within one another. I hope they will be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger” so that they might truly come

to understand and respect one another, even if they do not fully agree with one another.

I also hope that each person will take the time to become informed about any organization that they consider supporting with their money, time, words, and actions. All of us need to practice loving and respecting our neighbor but this cannot be done through the

actions or beliefs of organizations such as BLM. May God give us wisdom and guide us in helping our neighbors who have been harmed by the actions of those like BLM to recover and again experience life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Your Right to Vote Was Secured a Long Time Ago: Don’t Neglect It

Because of the daring and brave action taken in 1776 in Philadelphia, we can vote and elect our officials (Governors, Congressmen, Senators, Mayors, Judges) to maintain our society and our country and state. Now, we have a chance to vote in an important election in Lubbock County on July 14th to decide who is going to be the next Judge in the 99th District Court.

I am running as the Conservative candidate in this race. Not only do I take my oath as an attorney seriously, but also my oath that I took as a Judge to preserve, protect, and defend our Constitution and the laws of the United

States and of Texas. In thirty years of practicing before this court, I have walked in each day respecting the authority of the Court and representing my client within those laws. Seeking justice, under law, and being determined to ensure that the citizens are receiving their fair day in court was my goal each day as a Judge.

Now, I am asking for the citizens of our great county to return me to the courthouse so that I may continue to uphold my oath of preserving and defending the Constitution and the laws of this State from the bench. his cartoon was published nearly three years ago. It predicted our future, which has now arrived in full, ugly bloom.

Actually, I’m not much of a prognosticator and my crystal ball broke a long time ago. In 2017 the incidences shown in this cartoon were already occurring.

Now they’ve all become worse.

Expect to see more statues being torn down. Nancy Pelosi and her radical Democrats are all for it. They are for kneeling at every opportunity. After all, they hate America, and want to destroy our history.

Expect the NFL to order all players to kneel during the National Anthem.

(OK, I’m just joking, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens).

Expect to see our history be rewritten

by socialists. Actually, they’ve already done that, and our children are taught to hate America in leftist indoctrination centers formerly known as public schools. America’s past is evil and, in their eyes, it justifies America’s destruction.

Expect more censorship across the board. The Chinese cannot be offended. Old films won’t be seen on late-night TV and especially on HBO or Obama’s Netflix. Instead, we’ll continue to get leftist propaganda films.

Google will make it increasingly difficult to find the truth via its former

search engine. It doesn’t do that anymore. The pistons in that engine now fire out pro new world order propaganda. Look for all the social media to continue with their ‘bit burning.’

Amazon will increasingly burn, er, ban books that the left finds offensive.

One thing I didn’t predict in the cartoon is medical tyranny. Controlled by the globalist left, look for more rules and phony laws designed to herd us toward a mandatory vaccine and a global ID system.

We can’t stop idiots from electing politicians such as Nancy Pelosi, but we can refuse to take the upcoming ‘mandatory’ vaccine. Do not watch the BLMNFL. Do not wear a mask—that’s kneeling to medical tyranny. Do not kneel to anyone. We have no reason to feel guilty for being alive and aware of what’s really going on.

Expect more madness, but refuse to comply.

ABORTION IS MURDER: And I Got Sued for Saying It The Ongoing Fight to Outlaw Abortion Across Texas.

M

y name is Mark Lee Dickson. I am a pro-life activist who has found himself spending a lot of his time here in West Texas - specifically in Levelland and Sundown. This area has become a second home to me, and I do not have plans to leave anytime soon.

A few weeks ago, I was sued by three abortion-assistance organizations for some comments I made on Facebook.

So, what did I say? I said that abortion was murder, that these groups were involved in the murder of innocent children, and that they were criminals.

These are statements that many of us have said before. So why me? The answer to that, I believe, has everything to do with an initiative I’ve been involved with over the past year.

Since June 11th, 2019 a total of thirteen cities have passed an enforceable ordinance outlawing abortion within their city limits and becoming ‘Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn.’

I’ve been leading this charge traveling from city to city throughout the great State of Texas, going to the cities whose residents have reached out to me.

The ordinances that these thirteen cities have embraced states, “a surgical or chemical abortion is the purposeful and intentional ending of a human life, and is murder ‘with malice aforethought’ since the baby in the womb has its own DNA, and at certain points in pregnancy has its own heartbeat and its own brainwaves.” The ordinance also states, “the Supreme Court erred in Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), when it said that pregnant women have a constitutional right to abort their unborn children, as there is no language anywhere in the Constitution that even remotely suggests that abortion is a constitutional right . . . Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), is a lawless and illegitimate act of judicial usurpation, which violates the Tenth

Amendment by trampling the reserved powers of the States, and denies the people of each State a Republican Form of Government by imposing abortion policy through judicial decree.”

In passing these ordinances, abortion was outlawed immediately within the city limits of these cities. According to these ordinances, if anyone performed an abortion or paid for an abortion within the city limits of these cities, they would be breaking the law and there would be both immediate and future consequences. These cities saw the murder of innocent children seriously, and not one of them wanted to be a place where an abortion clinic could set up shop and murder babies in their city.

In February seven of the cities were sued by the ACLU, who was representing two abortion assistance groups: The Lilith Fund and the TEA Fund. The lawsuit was brought with obvious hopes from the abortion industry that the cities would repeal the ordinances which they had passed outlawing abortion. Even cities that had not been sued received letters encouraging them to repeal their ordinance.

The Sanctuary Cities did not listen to the ACLU more than their citizens. The Sanctuary Cities chose to stand their ground, amending their ordinances for the sake of clarity, and making minor changes to strengthen the ordinances,

but not repealing their ordinances.

Abortion was still outlawed in all of the sanctuary cities. And while it is true that the ordinances removed language designating abortion groups as “criminal organizations” the ordinances still were clear that if any individual or organization performed an abortion or paid for an abortion, they would be breaking the law and there would be both immediate and future consequences.

In late May the ACLU decided to withdraw their lawsuit and the cities rejoiced.

That brings us to June. In early June I received a certified letter from Thompson & Coburn, a law-firm out of Dallas, Texas representing the Lilith Fund, the TEA Fund, and the Afiya Center - three abortion assistance groups. In their letter, it was my understanding that unless I agreed to retract several statements which I have made they would bring a lawsuit against me individually and in my capacity as a Director with Right to Life of East Texas. The comments they asked me to retract were comments which treated abortion as murder and the abortion-aiding organizations as involved in the criminal act of abortion. I had no reason to retract anything that I said. Abortion is the murder of innocent unborn human beings. The Lilith Fund and other abortion-aiding organizations all take part

in the murder of innocent unborn human beings. I figured they were going to bring a lawsuit on the anniversary of Waskom outlawing abortion and that is exactly what they did - times three.

On June 11th, 2020 three separate abortion groups decided to sue me individually as well as Right to Life of East Texas in three separate lawsuits. The lawsuits they are bringing should be a great case to bring before the courts and a great victory in the fight for life. The statements which I have made are not rooted in my imagination, but in the law written on all of our hearts, in the Constitution of the United States of America, in the Texas Constitution, and the laws of the Great State of Texas.

2A Texas Penal Code article 1192, at 433 (1961) imposes criminal liability on anyone who “furnishes the means for procuring an abortion knowing the purpose intended.” Since the Texas Legislature has not repealed article 1192 in response to Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), this statute continues to exist as the law of Texas.

Both I and Right to Life of East Texas have retained Jonathan F. Mitchell (the former Solicitor General of the State of Texas), Senator Bryan Hughes, and Stephen Klein (an attorney out of Washington, D.C.) to represent us in these lawsuits.

But there is another question besides, “Why Me?” That question is, “Why now?” The answer, I believe, is directly tied to the state of abortion in this country as well as the 2020 Election.

There is no doubt in my mind that the abortion industry sees what I am doing in these cities as a threat to their vision for a blue Texas with expanded abortion access.

a sign. A sign is universally known and bears a very clear meaning. For example, if one sees a red octagon, he thinks “Stop!” However, Confederate memorials and flags do not bear the same meaning to each person. Now, Confederate decorum and monuments have the “sign” meaning of, “This represents the Confederate States of America.” However, whereas a “sign” meaning is much less historically and culturally relative, a “symbol” meaning is highly relative to context. (Note: the distinction between sign and symbol is not black and white. What was once a sign may become a symbol.)

What are Confederate memorials symbols of? We need to look into the context of the people claiming that certain things mean certain things.

For some, old Confederate monuments, flags, and other memorabilia

www.CaprockPatriot.com represent white supremacy, racism, and various other oppressive ideologies. For others, the modern use of Confederate paraphernalia represents, “Heritage not hate.”

Those who say that Confederate symbols represent oppression can be split into two groups: those who want to oppress and those who believe they are (or could be) oppressed.

These people are focusing on the role slavery played in the Civil War. For the white supremacists and neoNazis, the flag represents a grievous loss of power. It represents how they think things should be. For those who desire to fight against racism, the flag represents the same things.

Therefore, they want this symbol taken down.

However, I have a hard time believing that Charlie Daniels and Johnny Cash were supporting this interpretation of the symbolism when they respectively sang “The South’s Gonna

do it Again” and “God Bless Robert E. Lee.” Daniels, Cash, and many others focus on Southern legacy and heritage.

People like them emphasize the honor of fighting for your state and your home. The South is not just the Civil War, chattel slavery, and Jim Crow. The South is a significant sub-culture of the United States.

Rightly or wrongly, the Confederate flag and other memorials have become symbols of Southern culture. Confederate memorials and flags have become representative of Southern heritage, Southern hospitality, and free rebellious spirits.

Most who hold Confederate imagery in high regard claim, rightly or wrongly, that the racist use of the Confederate flag is a gross misapplication of the symbol.

Nonetheless, one must be especially mindful and empathetic toward Black Americans’ experiences. The Civil War was very long ago from the standpoint of American national history, but in the grand scheme of the world, it was very recent. If a Black American believes that the South seceded solely because of slavery, that

Confederate soldiers fought mainly for slavery, and that evil men erected Confederate memorials and fly the Confederate flag in support of the Black man’s suppression, of course, he is going to dislike and want Confederate imagery removed. If the Confederacy means to you, “A great many in this country want me subjugated,” of course you’ll dislike it.

I think both sides of the Confederate debate make errors when judging the other side. The error one side makes is to claim that Southern culture must be inherently and systemically racist for utilizing imagery that has been used in a racist context before. The error the other sides make is to not understand how some people could interpret a symbol as racist or oppressive given one’s cultural upbringing and worldview. Both sides make the mistake of not having empathy for the other.

What everyone needs to do (and this applies beyond the Confederate debate) is to strive to understand other people’s emotional and logical reasons for holding a belief. The ancient philosopher Aristotle apocryphally said, “It is the mark of an educated mind to entertain a thought without accepting it.” Can we strive to entertain thoughts we do not hold to be true? If we can, we will see our ideological opponents as people and not as enemies.

Here is a Scriptural application to end with. I Corinthians chapter 8 tells us to not abuse our rights and that we should always have the interests of our brothers and sisters before our own. Does the Confederate flag offend your fellow Christian? Do you know that your fellow Christian holds Confederate imagery in high esteem? Whatever side you are on, do not abuse your rights, and be sensitive to your neighbor.

It is possible for good men to hold incorrect views.

His Great Society’s expansion of Aid for Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) turned out to be hugely detrimental to the existence of two parent black families. True Stories of a Vietnam Long Range Recon Patrol: Part XII

The final story of 12-part series sharing the very personal and boots on the ground account of one Green Beret’s time in Vietnam. t was the morning of the 5th day on the ground. I felt the downward prop wash as the gunship passed over us. What little green smoke was still lingering was driven deep into the grass.

The One-Zero spoke directly into my ear, “Pop green pop green”.

OMG, what pocket had I placed green smoke in.

I started taking smoke grenades out of my leg pocket... Yellow. I dropped it to the ground and pulled out... Red...

Oh, hell, it would be at the bottom of the pocket.

The guns of the gunship opened up on the grass just across the ravine on the far side of the bamboo. Boom! An RPG barely missed the gunship and landed back in the trees to my right.

At the sound of the explosion of the RPG, I ducked; without thinking, I pulled the pin on the green smoke, stood, and tossed it as far as I could downwind of the gunship.

Green smoke billowed up.

The gunship swung his nose more to the left bringing the door gunner more in line to cover where the RPG had come from. The door gunner opened up into the bamboo spraying left and

right. Then he stopped to feed another belt of 60-caliber rounds into the door machine gun.

At the same time, I saw the NVA with the RPG stand up on this side of the bamboo. I emptied all 30 rounds of the magazine at the NVA. I must have hit him because... BOOM… the RPG exploded 50-feet in front of him as it hit the ground.

The team was all firing into the bamboo, placing a wall of lead in front of us. I saw the grass moving not more than 100-feet to my left. I emptied the remaining magazine at the movement.

and inserted a new magazine in the receiver and slammed a round into the chamber with my finger on the trigger.

The CAR 15 immediately firing.

I assume NVA rounds were being fired toward us. To be exact, toward me; but they just did not register in my mind. Unless I was hit, enemy rounds didn’t matter.

The gunship made a strafing run to the east along the bamboo line away from us.

The gunship had barely cleared the area in front of me when I felt the strong prop wash of the slick (UH-1H “Huey” helicopter) as he came in fast from behind me. He flared his rotor blades and pointed his nose to the west so when he flew us out, he didn’t fly us downhill over the NVA in the bamboo.

The slicks position put one side door facing us and one on the far side, downhill toward the bamboo line.

The Lieutenant slapped me on the head then ran to the downhill side of the slick with me and two Vietnamese fast behind him. The One-Zero, the One-One, and the Vietnamese interpreter raced to the door facing us.

Because the uphill side of the slick was lower to the ground the three men

on that side bailed in piling on top of each other.

On my side of the slick, I kneeled on the grass that was blown tight against the ground by the prop wash and maintained weapon fire back and forth on what I could see of the bamboo.

Note... A helicopter can maintain high RPM on the rotor shaft and not move because the angle of the blades does not cut into the air to create lift.

But there is still a downward pressure of air that pressed the elephant grass to the ground around the helicopter.

I saw movement out of the corner of my right eye and I instantly swung my weapon to bear on two NVA as they rushed us from the grass about 75 feet out in front of the slick. They both went down under my fire.

What was the damn hold up on us boarding the slick? I looked and saw the short Vietnamese, with their heavy packs, trying to reach the door.

While still firing on the NVA at the nose of the slick with my right arm, I lifted the first Vietnamese over my shoulder by his web belt and stuffed him in the door.

More NVA were coming out of the grass to the front. I fired until I heard the dreaded click of an empty chamber.

With no time to insert a fresh magazine, I grabbed the remaining man and stuffed him in the door. I tried to get on the landing strut, but it was too high off the ground for me to pull myself up.

I bent slightly to see where I could tie myself to the strut because there was no way in hell that chopper was leaving without me. With a sudden jerk, I was pulled up and through the door by my One-Zero and the Vietnamese Lieutenant.

I noticed two things once inside the slick.

First, there was no revving up of the engine, but when the angle of the pitch was changed on the blades the slick sprang into the air, even with our added SEE TRUE STORIES OF A VIETNAM | PAGE 29

weight. Then nosed down as the pilot climbed for the sky... And safety.

The second thing I noticed was the ping of bullets as they passed through the thin skin of the aircraft. I noticed all the spots of light shining through all the bullet holes.

My left eye was blurry. I wiped it with my hand. You sweat badly in Southeast Asia.

It was not sweat. It was blood! OMG, I had been shot. I was gonna die.

The slick slid sideways toward the bamboo as it slowly increased the distance from the ground. The door gunner was standing on the strut out the right door as he fired back into the grass and bamboo we had just left. He was strapped to the slick in such a way that he could stand on the strut and could swing the machine gun 180 degrees, nose to tail, to deliver deadly fire

to anyone or anything within range of the gun.

I took the strap hanging by me, ran it through my harness webbing, and hooked it back on itself. That allowed me to lean out while stepping out on the strut.

I had already replaced the magazine in my weapon, so I was able to fire on the NVA as soon as I saw them coming out of the bamboo back where we had just left.

When I heard the click of the empty chamber, I ejected the empty magazine just as a full magazine was thrust by my One-Zero into my view. I locked and loaded.

What the hell?

The slick flared to the right causing me to swing into the cabin and at the same time, the top of the bamboo was struck by the bottom of the slick. As the weight of the slick push itself deep into the bamboo.

Subconsciously, I had taken the K-Bar

knife out of its pocket on my boot and cut myself free of the strap.

We had been shot down.

I heard the sound of the rotor blades cutting the bamboo as the slick settled at a 45-degree angle into the bamboo.

I set down on the floor to keep from falling out the right door. I scooted on my butt toward the door and the door gunner who was still hanging outside.

Note... We are trained that when an aircraft is shot from under you. Everyone gets out and forms a perimeter around the aircraft.

As I scooted for the door to get out, I saw the door gunner talking into his headset. I reached the door but before I could exit the door gunner shook his head... NO. He pushed me to the side by the One-Zero and the others.

We were still taking a few rounds as the pilot revved the engine to a high pitch scream and the slick pulled itself free of the bamboo and again climbed into the sky.

The One-Zero grabbed my arm and told me to take the place of the door gunner who had broken his arm on the M60 machine gun stand when the slick had flared sideways.

I estimate the slick was 1500-feet up by the time I got strapped in and stepped out on the strut.

A movement drew my attention up and to my left. It was an F4 phantom lining up to make his strafing run. In a blink of an eye, he was past us and started firing his guns as soon as he cleared us.

West Texas Regional Monument of Courage

he Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 0900, VFW Post 2466, and the Friends of the Monument of Courage are pleased to announce that the dedication of the West Texas Regional Monument of Courage three in one monument at 9:12 am on August 7, 2020.

August 7th is National Purple Heart Day. It is only fitting that we dedicate this monument on National Purple Heart Day as we will honor those whose blood is the currency of freedom.

The three granite monuments will honor three regional groups.

Purple Heart Recipients: The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after April 5, 1917, has been wounded or killed.

Medal of Honor Recipients: The Medal of Honor is bestowed upon any member of the United States armed forces who distinguishes himself “conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States.” Seven of the twelve Medal of Honor Heroes represented on the monument were killed or lost in action. The one lost or MIA is Air Force Lt. Colonel George Davis of Lubbock who was lost over the skies of Korea.

Gold Star Families: A Gold Star Family is the immediate family member(s) of a fallen service member who died while serving in a time of conflict.

The dedication on August 7, 2020, will feature keynote speeches by the youngest living Marine Medal of Honor recipient, Kyle Carpenter, and the oldest living Marine Medal of Honor recipient, Woody Williams, who

was fighting only 1000-yards from the flag-raising at Iwo Jima, February 23, 1945.

The general public, Gold Star families who have lost a soldier in war, Purple Heart recipients and their families, Veterans, and Active Duty Military are invited to join us at the dedication at the Lubbock Veterans War Memorial on 82nd and Nashville.

After the dedication, we will officially unveil the Monument of Courage when it will be opened to the public and serve as a reminder that freedom is never free.

The monument will be a special place where Gold Star families can go to remember and honor their lost Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine.

But the monument is especially important for our youth. It is a reminder to them that the currency of freedom is a brave service member’s blood.

We hope and pray that they learn the high and painful cost of freedom, and especially that it is worth fighting for and even dying for.

The community and many local businesses have graciously stepped up to raise funds to pay for the monument with over $300,000 raised. We appreciate the overwhelming support of generous and patriotic West Texans.

OLD SALT: I Am a Jelly Donut

What President famously said, “I am a jelly donut”?

But First: Be afraid, be very afraid!

There is a vicious effort afoot orchestrated by today’s Democrat Party. If you love your country don’t fall for this crazy effort to destroy our country. It’s mostly a false narrative to gain sick revenge, money, and power. Shamefully, most local, state, and national leaders are afraid to fight back with the truth. I am ashamed of Americans who would fall for this. This is how Hitler came to power. Let’s contrast this with a more genteel time.

Fall of 1960?

So, what’s this to do with the U.S. Navy Old Salt, you say. Well shipmate, for me, my Navy service is the reference point for my life. One distinct event

related to my Navy service was being honorably discharged early September 1960. I had four wonderful years serving and had accomplished a lot.

My dream was for a career in the military space industry. I had returned to Cocoa, Florida (Cape Canaveral). My dream of working in the civilian-military aerospace program seemed to me just an extension of Navy service. How all this worked out is another story.

Warm Florida Nights: In those days my politics did not go past being patriotic as were 99% of my fellow citizens. General Dwight Eisenhower was at the end of his two terms as our president with the election due November 1960. Democrats had arranged to tank the economy and send us into a recession, thus jobs, especially Aerospace, dried up. Contenders for President: Richard Millhouse Nixon

As a matter of fact, I never saw or thought of a donut during many years on aircraft carriers. As excellent as the cooks were, they did not make donuts (the Navy gets the gravy, the Army gets the beans).

In fact, since jokers like Don Lemon of CNN can claim there is no need to wonder if you are a racist because, in his words, “if you are white and live in America, you are a racist, end of

Out of the Navy and in the Mainstream: Back home for a new adventure, I was just in time for the election. In those good old days, people kept their politics to themselves as it was nobody’s business. The interchange between my Mom and Dad, for example, was amusing then and still brings a smile at the thought. If anyone dared ask, Mom would say, “I will vote for the winner”. After the election, she would only say” I voted for the winner”. Dad would tell you “I will vote for the one who is for good business”. They just had fun with it. JFK won and both Mom and Dad seemed content. I recall the night of the election as, for the first time, I sat at an open-air bar with my Dad and had a beer in a frosty mug as

JFK ran an excellent campaign; however, the media did its best to sway the electorate to the democrat as they hated Nixon. Taking nothing away from JFK; he too was a war hero and confident orator. He easily wowed the woman vote with his well-tailored good looks.

He had a retinue of coaches and makeup artist at each TV appearance. This of course unnerved pasty looking Nixon.

JFK won, apparently sending Nixon to obscurity.

on the moon. Most people forget it was JFK, the President who embroiled us in Vietnam.

JFK had a difficult time with other languages. His thick Boston brogue made it difficult to correctly enunciate foreign words. Just eight months after JFK faced down the Russians in the Cuban crises, he delivered his famous stirring speech at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

Everything JFK did was practiced to perfections just as he had done against Nixon. Any German word was carefully phonetically spelled out to avoid the faux-pas JFK was subject too.

JFK made a last-minute handwritten note “Ich bin ein Berliner”. He wanted to say, “I am a Berliner”. When he said, “Ich bin ein Berliner”, the crown started to snicker. German reporters on the scene wrote about this funny mistake the next morning, observing the American President had proclaimed “I am a Jelly Donut”. They accompanied this with cute little cartoons such as below.

You see ein Berliner when incorrectly pronounced comes out the equivalent of a Berlin Jelly donut e.g. I’ll have ein Berliner. Of course, the crowd quickly self-corrected, forgave, and cheered.

Richard Nixon, “I am not a crook”:

R ichard Nixon, never a quitter, went on to run for Governor of California but lost thanks to democrat tricks and a vicious liberal press.

Nixon famously said, “The press will not have old Dick Nixon to kick around anymore”. Yet he did not quit.

After JFK was tragically assassinated and VP Lyndon Johnson became President for six disastrous years, turning Vietnam into a nightmare.

Six years after losing the governorship in his home state, Nixon made a remarkable political comeback to become our 37th President.

Richard Nixon was a far better President than modern history portrays, extricating us from Vietnam and fulfilling JFK’s promise to get a man on the moon. Watergate is all people seem to focus on when it comes to this man. Never forget that ruthless Hillary Clinton was behind going after Nixon. Once again, for the good of the country, Nixon did not fight it. He did say “I am not a crook”.

To me, he was one of the great presidents.

Lives Matters

ll right folks… Welcome to the sixth level of Jumanji! Right?

Or another Final Destination Movie? Or… actually… what the heck is going on? What is going on in our country? Are we witnessing the results of long-ignored issues? Are we witnessing what happens when you sweep too many things under the rug? What is happening right now to our country, to our people?

As I’ve done several times before, I want to talk about life. I want to talk about how we view it, the worth we give it, and I want to do so attempting to remain unbiased and truthful. For the past several years, and especially the past several months, we continue to hear “_____ lives matter.” And it seems like no matter what phrase is spoken aggression and/or confusion comes as a result. I’m not here to say which one is right as if the other was wrong. However, I am here to say the life has an undefined value and that value is something that is far beyond the reaches of something you or I can assign.

Lives matter. Lives matter. Lives matter.

I’m about to say something that might make some of you a little

uncomfortable. I’m about to say something that some of you, no matter your race, your heritage, your gender, or your religious or political affiliations, may not like and/or may not want to hear.

Lives matter, but lives have become complacent.

In my circles, I have not been silent.

However, I have not been extremely vocal either. I’ve tried to take a step back and see a bigger picture. And what I have seen is that there is an insurmountable amount of brokenness in front of and amongst us. I don’t say that to cause shame or assign blame.

But rather to level the playing field a bit. I say that to acknowledge the pain and suffering in this world while also acknowledging pain and suffering created by the significant amount of overcorrection.

While I would assume that we all know that overcorrection is oftentimes not good, I hope that acknowledgment of such a thing would cause us just to stop and pause for a moment. I want us to listen and witness. I want you to listen and witness what “ your side” and “the other side” has to say. I want you to do that for two reasons. First, because I assume you already know the truths of your side, I want you to look for your inconsistencies. Second, because I assume you know the inconsistencies of the other side, I want you to find their truths.

If I may make another assumption, most of you reading this newspaper own and possibly even carry a gun. If I may continue that assumption, most of you also subscribe to “ Blue Lives Matter.” Because I’m making those assumptions, I will address those sides of things. But first I want you to know something about me. I also own and carry guns. I too believe in the statement “shall not be infringed” with no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I believe

in the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, etc. I’ve got grandparents, uncles, and cousins that served either in the military or as a police officer. I even had an aunt who was a county judge for something like 20 years. I’ll allow you to fill in the gaps about myself and my beliefs, but I’ll add one more. I believe that, for the most part, the community

that also believes these things has not, to their fullest potential, lived up to them.

I believe that we are seeing the consequences of our side of the fault.

lthough a picture is worth a thousand words, I have something to say about the events of the early days of 2020. A Pandemic affected people in a very positive way. We have learned a lot and our eyes have been opened to the fact that WE ARE America.

We don’t take no crap from leaders.

WE lead because at the end of the day, WE are self-sufficient.

We come from stout-hearted pioneer stock that is a heritage of freedom seekers going way back 500 years. We have a lot to be proud of and remember our grandparents, great, great, great grandparents. They were Salt and Light to a new world built on courage and persistence.

Today we have been awakened and are beginning to send messages to all fellow American’s that we have read the Constitution and will support and defend that document because we know what it took to hand it down to us for safekeeping.

We know it was created by “Real Men” determined to find a better life of freedom for generations ahead of them. They built the beginnings of a great nation on self-responsibility. We are the same today. We have the genes of greatness and we too are self-reliant.

events of the early months of 2020 as people grew up in ways not expressed before in this generation’s life span. All present and accounted for, standing at attention after a short “Boot Camp” encounter.

It reminded me of a man standing alone with the truth and willing to fight to the death the rights granted all men of all time and expressed clearly in the Constitution of the United States.

Because One Man Standing Alone with the TRUTH is a Majority, it has been said.

One example is Lech Wałęsa who was a Polish statesman, dissident, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who served as the first democratically elected President of Poland from 1990 to 1995. He did that in the spirit we have been called to in America and that all of mankind has aspired to always.

In America, the spirit is built on understanding our Constitutional Republic. We believe in the tenets of that document. It says we have Solidarity in the spirit of a Polish dissident hundreds of years after the founding of America and the crafting of that Constitution. Was this Polish dissident the product of the Spirit of America? Maybe not. But surely, he was cut from the same cloth as all freedom-loving people over all of time.

In the lifetimes of today’s people, we have seen War Heroes who helped to save a free society and gave hope for a free world and justice for all.

Decorated WWII hero, Audie Murphy, comes to mind.

We have seen Civil rights heroes, like the Rev. Martin Luther King, who gave all in the cause of Civil Liberty.

We came to America from all walks of life and we built a great nation.

We put a man on the moon for goodness sake. . . and we salute the country that made that possible.

We must always remember We the

People ARE America. America is NOT a bunch of puffed-up politicians.

Rather, America is WE, the American people, who hire them to work for us. And make no mistake, they are “At-Will” employees, and we can change them as often as necessary to preserve this great nation.

Likewise, judges, police, mayors, and governors are hired as needed just like plumbers and painters; and from the least of our CARPENTERS of today to the greatest of carpenters of long ago, we have looked to them for leadership as well.

It’s time we stand together and demand better of our hired elected officials with a promise that we will thank them or replace them based on the job

they do.

We will be very clear that we won’t tolerate ‘on the job’ Non-sense or grabass goofing around and especially we will not allow corruption.

The Duke says, “We still hang horse thief’s Pardner”.

2ND AMENDMENT people to fight against it. I do this also because I love people. I believe that all people were created in the image of God and that image goes deeper than what we see on the outside and even that which we perceive to be on the inside.

I engage, to a certain degree, in politics for the same reason. I’m also a minister of the gospel for the same reason.

Martin Luther King Jr. said, and again I will paraphrase, that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. I know you know this.

And I know you know that injustice doesn’t just “go away,” but is eradicated by the words, deeds, and beliefs of good people. Injustices as minute as overpriced electric bills from greedy corporations to hating another person because of the difference that upsets you. I know that you know what I’m talking about. And I hope you hear what I’m saying, because if we claim the lives matter then we have a moral responsibility to be attentive and

seen a lot of inconsistency in pretty much all of them, but I’m not here to address those. I’m here to address the ones that I’m familiar with. I don’t know you and you don’t know me, so I won’t make any specific accusations.

However, I do want to challenge my fellow believers.

In the book of Ephesians, Paul writes, And I’m going to paraphrase here, that our fight is not with flesh and blood both principalities and powers. He says our fight is not with each other but rather it is with that which puts us against each other.

For me, I carry a gun everywhere I go. I also carry a tourniquet as well as a hemostatic bandage and attempt to keep situational awareness at all times.

The first reason is that because the powers that allow evil to happen to one group also have the power to allow evil on your own group. The second reason, and I think the more important reason, is because we’re people and people ought to stand up for other people. And I’m tired of seeing people not stand up for other people.

I’m tired of going to social media and finding people who deliberately put their heads in the sand and people who don’t stand up for other people.

I’m also tired of seeing people assault those weaker than them.

This has been a hard month. Shoot, it’s been a hard year. But if we value life, if we value our own lives then we better start standing up and doing something to bring about justice everywhere.

I know this is a rant and I take full

responsibility for what I said. I’ll even go so far to say as the controversial things I said, are said on my behalf and the behalf of those who don’t have a voice. I say this rant because I love people and I cherish life. And because those things are true, I’ve got to call out inconsistency when I see it.

I’ve got to call out complacency when I see it. I call these things out both on your record and on mine.

I’m fully aware that some of you may not share the Christian belief. However, the truth in this closing verse surpasses any religious parameters.

O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is just, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8.

The Declaration Of “IN”Dependence

I

NDEPENDENCE... the founding principle that gave birth to our nation and has remained an integral part of our American fabric ever since. “We the people” have a great appreciation for self-sufficiency and value independent thinking, financial independence, and people who live independently, completely “off the grid.”

Each year in July, millions of flags appear as we celebrate Independence Day and the courageous men and women who fought for freedom from tyranny. We are proud to show the entire world what liberty looks like. We want everyone to know that as Americans we are free to choose to live any way we want and do whatever we want to do. Indeed, one of our most illustrious founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin, boldly proclaimed “I am lord of myself accountable to none.”

Conversely, one of the worse things you can say about a person is that they are “dependent.” The very word raises thoughts of 30-year old’s living with their parents, or a person who lives for their next drink, pill, or smoke, or simply someone who cannot make it on their own. Maria Montessori is well known for creating non-traditional schools and believes “The essence of independence is to be able to do something for one’s self.” Similarly, a professor I had in graduate school often said, “In theory, a child should be most dependent on their mother on the day of their birth and less so every day thereafter.”

So, it would appear that the time to rest the case for independence has passed and the verdict is in...independence is a great thing and something for which we should aspire. It reflects strength, courage, and confidence, while dependency is always an indication of weakness wherever it is found. We must, however, be very

careful not to overlook one critical fact...WE WERE CREATED TO BE DEPENDENT and we all are dependent every second of our lives. Not on drugs, booze, or things, but on God (Gen 2: 16–17): The LORD God gave the man this order: You are free to eat from any of the trees of the garden except the tree of knowledge of good and evil. From that tree you shall not eat; when you eat from it you shall die.

We may not believe that, but it does not make it any less true. I don’t believe the Chicago Cubs finally won a World Series, but they did.

The original “founding father,” Adam, chose not to accept that truth and instead chose freedom from God, taking “life” into his own hands, resulting in death. We literally continue to do the same thing today each time we decide to end the life of an unborn child.

And not only are we dependent on God but we are also interdependent.

We read in Genesis 2:18 “The Lord God said It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suited to him.” Independence took another major hit with those words. The truth is that we need one another and depend on others far more than we realize. Choose most any item in a grocery store and there is no telling how many hundreds of people were part of making that item possible for purchase.

Alfred Adler, the true father of modern-day psychology knew the importance of relationships when he based his theory on a concept he called “social interest” and correctly understood that mental health and caring for others were directly related.

John Donne knew it when he wrote: No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as

any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Similarly, George Bernard Shaw stated: Independence? That’s middle class blasphemy.

We are all dependent on one another, every soul of us on earth.

And what is true for us as individuals is true for us as a nation.

The Peace That Passes Understanding

merica teeters on the edge of the abyss. Professional revolutionaries organized and funded by the Alt-left Progressives seek to provoke the Trump Administration into a response they can label as disproportionate or over-the-top.

As President Trump moves to quell the violence by any means necessary the Democrats who identify as journalists take every opportunity to label his response as disproportionate or over-the-top. Some go so far as to say President Trump is assuming dictatorial power and that his attempt to restore the rule of law to the burning blue cities is as ruthless as Khrushchev stomping out the revolution in Hungary in 1956 or Brezhnev smothering the Prague Spring of 1968. This is a stunning bit of hyperbole from the purveyors of fake news.

Here is a truism that has proven itself many times over – violence begets violence or as Jesus put it, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.”

There’s nothing easier than to choose a side and if not joining in the assault on the opposing side at least cheering on those who do.

What are we as Christians supposed to do? Whose side are we on? There

can be only one answer to that, we are on God’s side.

Every army that has ever marched with the exception of the godless communists has said they were fighting on God’s side. And even Stalin invoked “Holy Mother Russia” and had Orthodox priests released from his dungeons to bless the soldiers protecting his right to operate those dungeons.

So, what is God’s side in this current season of proto-civil war wracking America?

God has called us to a ministry of reconciliation. As Paul stated in his second letter to the Corinthians, “Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry

of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.”

On one side of our current divide we must admit that there is police brutality, and in some places, even systemic police brutality. As an individual who has borne the brunt of such brutality, I can testify that it does exist. On the other side we must admit that the numbers of rogue cops and complicit agencies is miniscule when compared to the legions of dedicated peace officers who put themselves in harm’s way to maintain the order necessary for a civil society.

revolutionaries, criminals, and thugs to burn our cities. This must stop. The saddest thing of all is that most of the property damage is in the neighborhoods of the very people who have the least. And there is no possible way to justify attacking the innocent to protest an attack against the innocent.

First, the violence must end. Next, we need to address the underlying issues.

One of the biggest has been the Biden Crime act passed by the Democrat Congress and signed by Bill Clinton.

This atrocious law imposed unfair and unequal penalties on certain behaviors while allowing other behaviors which were equally as bad to slide. It also imposed mandatory sentences that allowed for no mitigation. Thankfully, this crime bill aimed right at the ghetto has been repealed under President Trump. However, we must take up the challenge and devise some means of ridding our police departments of those who want to peruse a private agenda of hate.

Reconciliation is a two-way street.

If we stand on opposite sides and call each other names, there is no chance of peace. While reconciliation takes two to tango forgiveness does not. We as Christians are called to forgive. EXPLANATION OF GOD his was reportedly written by an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton from Chula Vista, CA. He wrote it for his third-grade homework assignment, to “explain God”.

One of God’s main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn’t make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn’t have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.

God’s second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times

beside bedtime. God doesn’t have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off.

God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So, you shouldn’t go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad’s head asking for something they said you couldn’t have.

Atheists are people who don’t believe in God. I don’t think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren’t any who come to our church.

Jesus is God’s Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying

to teach the people who didn’t want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him. But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn’t know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K. His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn’t have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in Heaven. So, he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God . Like a secretary, only more important.

You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.

should be the limit of our forgiveness?

There is a short conversation recorded in the Gospel of Matthew between Peter and Jesus that sheds light on this.

“Then Peter came to Him and said, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.’”

So as the wall-to-wall talking heads do their best to implant anxiety and fear, as they practice their mantra, “If it bleeds it leads” we must turn to the source and summit of wisdom: God’s holy Word. Turning again to Paul in

his letter to the Philippians we find God’s recipe for peace. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Watching the unfolding drama that is the daily news we find it easy to feel powerless, separated, and alone.

Which way to turn? Who to believe?

What to do? These are all questions that currently divide our lives. Personally, I find only one answer and His

a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”

Christ has forgiven us perfectly, completely, and for all eternity. And that is how we are called to forgive others.

Once we’ve forgiven others we can move forward into the ministry of reconciliation. But until we forgive, we’re locked in the endless cycle of tit-for-tat, he-said/she-said, recriminations, and hate.

So how far should we take this? What

Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there’s anybody you want to make happy, it’s God! Don’t skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn’t come out at the beach until noon anyway.

If you don’t believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can’t go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He’s around you when you’re scared, in the dark or when you can’t swim, and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.

But...you shouldn’t just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases.

And...that’s why I believe in God. I wonder if any of us could have done as well as this young man?

A LITTLE GOOD NEWS TODAY: A Man’s Words Cost Him Dearly

UR CHURCH MADE a brave move one time. The Pastor said, “I want to rent a portable sign and put it out front. I want it to say, Miracle Healing Service Tonight.”

I knew this would put us on the spot and bring people out of the woodwork from all walks of life. But, if the Pastor had that kind of faith, maybe God had spoken to him to do this. I was up for the adventure.

I remember only one instance of that night and it will always remain embedded in my memory. A man came in on crutches and came right on down to the front. He had a worn T-shirt on, nylon shorts, no shoes, and his hair

was unkempt. It wasn’t the attire he had on that was bothering me, it was the attitude behind it all.

The Pastor asked for those who needed healing to come down front and form a line. This young man with the broken leg wanted to be first.

He stated boldly, “If God doesn’t heal me tonight, they are going to take off my leg.” It was broken between the knee and the ankle and you could see that the bones were out of place. The Pastor and some others laid hands on him and prayed while the man kept his eyes open looking at his leg and then looking around the room all the time. When they finished praying, the Pastor said, “You are healed by faith in the name of Jesus,” then moved on to pray for others in the line.

SUMMER IS HERE!!!

You could see a perturbed look on the guy’s face as he looked at his leg, then at the Pastor, then at the people standing around him as if to say… I’m healed by faith…? Really…? My leg is still broken and they’re still going to amputate.

I WALKED OVER TO the man and asked him to come over to a section where we could be alone. I told him I would like to pray for his leg again. He followed me but was still very hesitant.

I looked around and caught the eye of two men that I trusted really well and motioned for them to come over with me.

I told the two men, “Pray but keep your eyes open, I want you to see what happens here.” This startled the man with the broken leg and his eyes got big.

and he was sitting in a chair. I asked him if I could move his broken bones, if it wouldn’t hurt too much? He said, “Sure, go ahead, they’re going to cut it off anyway.”

His bones were up against each other, not in place and I could move them around. I began to pray for the man’s bones to be healed and suddenly, I remembered the scripture where God Himself says, “I call things that are not as though they were.” I was really called to speak this out loud, so I said, “Look at his leg. God is healing it right now.”

Actually, before I said this, nothing was happening. But when I said this out loud, it stimulated everyone’s faith.

The two men and the man himself began to look intently at his broken leg. His bones began to move by themselves and with a light squeaking noise, they came together and went perfectly in place. He began to grip the chair so tightly that it was as though he thought he would fall out if he let go.

The man said, “Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Look at that! Look at my leg!”

Then after about 15 seconds the man’s attitude and his countenance began to change. He said, “Aw… God ain’t gonna heal my leg.” And then the leg went right back into its broken position SEE A LITTLE GOOD NEWS | PAGE 43

Bridging the Gap

s we’re watching the moral and spiritual decline of what was once a great nation that was built on the foundation of biblical principles, we must, as the Bible declares according to(Isaiah 58:1), “Cry loud and spare not; lift up your voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sins.”

In Psalm 11:3, the Bible also declares, “If the foundations be destroyed what shall the righteous do?” The answer to that question is also found in the word of God in II Chronicles 7:14) which is the key to getting this nation back on track.

So, with that at the forefront of our mission of bridging the gap for the next generation, we must prepare our children now! They will eventually be A LITTLE GOOD NEWS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 42

I LOOKED AT THE MAN and told him to stay over here for a while. I said, “It’s not your leg that you need prayer for, it’s your soul.

I have to go and help pray for all of these other people, but when I finish, I will come back over to you and counsel for a while and then pray with you again.”

As I got up and went over to help the others, I looked up and caught a glimpse of the man using his crutches going out the front door. I never saw him again.

I realized that some people just can’t forgive themselves for things they’ve done in the past and they just don’t feel worthy of any blessings from God. Their guilt inside is their own worst enemy. Unforgiveness truly blocks us from receiving anything from God, even when it’s our own selves we can’t forgive.

CHRISTIAN CLERGY AND THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION Part I: The Story of Pastor Jonas Clark

T

his July 4th marks 244 years since America declared independence from England.

Sometimes we forget that what was at stake was FREEDOM itself which the Bible says God wants for all people. It says that knowing the Truth is what sets us free (John 8:32), that Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6) and that wherever His Spirit is present there is FREEDOM (2 Corinthians 3:17). At its root, freedom isn’t a political thing, it’s a blessing from God and many in the 18th century American clergy saw unrighteous bondage to England as the usurping of a sacred biblical

endowment.

Over the eight years of war, many pastors became directly involved.

They fought in it themselves, led their congregations into battle, and risked everything for the cause of FREEDOM. Modern historians have documented that every right asserted in the Declaration of Independence had been preached from Colonial pulpits well before the war started. They were so effective in their pursuit of FREEDOM that after the war, the British generals said that had it not been for the “Black Regiment,” referring offhandedly to their church robes, the colonists would not have won. Hundreds of Pastors had preached FREEDOM from their pulpits and then led their people into

battle. Many faced execution if they were captured.

This series focuses on five examples of these great ministers that you may not know about because their involvement in the Revolutionary War is rarely taught anymore. This week features Pastor Jonas Clark from the Lexington, Massachusetts Church of Christ.

Most people have heard of Paul Revere and the famous shot heard ‘round the world. What you may not know is why he made that ride. You’ve also heard of John Hancock and Samuel Adams, patriot leaders whom the British yearned to capture for all their “rabble-rousing.” What you may not know is that they were the reason for Paul Revere’s ride and that Pastor Jonas Clark was at

Practical Faith

B

eing a Mom ~ after years of carpooling, chasing them all over the town watching their games, shows, dances and making their favorite desserts ~ it is time to let them go.

I can’t think of anything that forced me to put my faith into practice faster and deeper than watching them each leave and go off to college. A visual of placing each one of my children into the hands of God, and letting them go, was all I could do. The first child carried a particular set of challenges – and so does the last child to launch, and now that I think of it, any child in the middle actually carries certain reevaluation and trials.

Our goal as Christians is to be rewarded righteousness, and it requires a

practical faith and not just intellectual faith. As a mom, the hardest thing for me to ever surrender wholeheartedly was the care of my children. It is such a fine-line, I never knew how much was too much and what faith in God was to actually look like, when we had authority over our children.

To raise them in a way which would be pleasing to Him and yet, did I really show faith and complete trust Him. With them? Then they were off, and I had no choice. Practical Faith! Trust yourself, trust them, and trust God! How important is faith? Hebrews 11:6 says: “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” In Luke 18:8, Jesus said, “I tell you that

He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes will He really find faith on the earth?”

That is a very serious question to ponder.

If God has not placed you in a situation yet, where practical faith is your

only answer, then pray for it. If He has, thank Him for it.

be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God,” The Bible declares in Psalm 34:15, “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and his ears are open unto their cry.” And, in Psalm 33:11, “The counsel of the Lord standeth forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.” Finally, Psalm 22:30 declares, “A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.”

The Bible is our instruction manual, so we are without excuse! If there is ever a time for a cry for godly moms & dads to come forth and let their voices be heard, it is now!! You’ve been called to the Kingdom for such a time as this!

It’s time and past time for our slumbering church leaders to arise out of their sleep and take their God-given assignments & positions of authority to stand in the gaps and make up the hedge before another generation falls

Where are our spiritual Fathers that are not ashamed and not afraid to speak the truth amid a wicked & perverse generation?

This leads to a reverberating question, “WHO LEFT THAT OPEN!!”

Now we’re a nation that has opened up the wombs of mothers and ripped out innocent babies before their time; the last count was over sixty million lives! Again, I ask, “Who left that open?” Now, we’re a nation that says it’s ok to marry the same sex but have overthrown (DOMA) that honored marriage between a man and a woman, (God’s institution for family). Once more I ask, “Who left that open?”

The Bible declares according to Ezekiel 22:30), “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none.” And ( Isaiah 59:16) declares, “He saw that there was no

man, and wandered that there was no intercessor; therefore, His arm brought salvation unto him; and His righteousness it sustained him.” Again, I ask, “Who left that open?”

Now in our public schools, our children are not allowed to pray nor mention the name of Jesus; but they’re being taught that they can choose what sexual orientation they prefer, other than who they are. Not only that, but they’re also being taught at early ages of development how to masturbate and put on condoms, which promotes sexual promiscuity instead of abstinence until marriage. As a result, sexually transmitted diseases are at an all-time high, and strains of syphilis, Chlamydia, HIV, and AIDS, are resistant to antibiotics and seem to be incurable.

Once more the question comes up, “Who left that open?”

And now echoes Adam, “Where are you?”

Paul Revere was summoned by Dr. Joseph Warren of Boston and given instructions to ride to Lexington with the news that “regular army” British troops were about to march to Lexington and Concord. Their dual objectives were to confiscate rebel armaments hidden in Concord and to bring back the dead bodies of John Hancock and Samuel Adams who were staying in Pastor Clark’s home. Hancock was the Pastor’s cousin and he and Samuel Adams frequently stayed secretly with the Pastor as they traveled about avoiding the authorities.

So it was that Paul Revere started his

ride on the 15-mile trip to Pastor Clark’s home in Lexington to warn the two Patriot leaders. As he rode, he yelled out to those he passed that “the Regulars are coming,” referring to those British regular army troops. By the next morning, Pastor Clark had assembled his 150-member militia, mostly members of his church, and commanded

by Deacon John Parker. You know the story: those British soldiers fired on Jonas Clark and his people starting the Revolutionary War and leaving 7 dead patriot-members of the Lexington Church of Christ.

The two patriot leaders escaped, the militia saved the armaments, and Pastor Clark survived to continue as
