elcome back to Waypoints and another exciting season at Naples Yacht Club, commemorating 75 years of excellence in 2022. Although we celebrated last season, this milestone is worth honoring for the rest of the year. The success of Naples Yacht Club lies in the goals of our founders, Stephen F. Briggs, John G. Sample and Benjamin W. Morris, in the Naples Yacht Club Charter: The Club shall encourage the sport of yachting and provide excellent boating facilities and activities for its members. Further, the Club shall encourage warm social fellowship among the membership. To this end, the Club shall maintain a first-class clubhouse and offer superior dining, outstanding and friendly service, and an active and interesting social calendar.
The combination of these elements has been successful in making the Naples Yacht Club world-renowned. Interest in membership at our club has never been higher than it is today. Our surveys show a highly satisfied membership, which also is evidenced by the number of new members that have been recommended. We have developed a significant wait list which will maintain our membership levels and provide significant capital for maintaining and improving our fantastic facilities. “The Club shall encourage the sport of yachting…” This season’s Cruise Calendar has expanded to accommodate the evergrowing number of cruisers ready to get out on the water and experience the beauty of Florida with their NYC friends. Something new this season is not one but two trips to Boca Grande! The Boca Grande cruise is always the first to sell out. With two trips, we believe that every member that wants to attend will have the opportunity. For the first time in many years, cruisers can also experience cruising “On the Hook” where the night is spent on the boat, at anchor, sharpening your anchor watch skills.
“Further, the Club shall encourage warm social fellowship…” The NYC Social Calendar for the 2022-2023 season is as full as ever. From Motown to Nashville, from Jersey Boys to Margaritaville, I promise there is an event to inspire your dancing shoes. We are excited to welcome a variety of intriguing guest speakers from all over the country for Speaker Dinner Series and Luncheon Speaker Series events. In addition to social events, all members are welcome to join “clubs within the club” events during the season. No formal registration for these “clubs” is required—simply sign up for events that interest you. “The Club shall maintain a first-class clubhouse and offer superior dining, outstanding and friendly service…” I am happy to report that the kitchen and service team continues to strengthen every day. Under the watchful eye of NYC Executive Chef Michael Katz and his culinary team, you can be sure to count on our dining facilities to be your own personal gem where you will be proud to invite family and guests for a world-class experience. Chef ’s sophisticated yet approachable cuisine is ever changing and there is sure to be something for everyone. His passion for food and teaching extends to our attentive service team where their warm and friendly approach just might tempt you to try something out of your comfort zone. It is clear there is much to do and taste at NYC this season. I look forward to spending it with you all. Thank you for allowing me to serve the past two years as your Commodore. I have enjoyed my time serving on the board and look forward to handing off the reins to Rick Maxwell at Fleet Review.
See you at the club,
Joe McClanathan Commodore
