The date has been set for the upcoming PORSCHES IN THE PARK, VETERANS DAY CONCOURS.Things have firmed up and I can now say that this special day is on the calendar for Sunday, November 10 at Plantation Heritage Park, City of Plantation. We will be honoring our veterans that have stood up for us and served our country. The Gold Coast Region will be holding a concours for Porsche cars with each car judged within its class and trophies will be awarded by class and to overall show winners.
The concours will have a Veterans Day theme with special attention paid to our own Gold Coast Veterans. Proceeds will be donated to the Honor Flight Association that provides flights for aging veterans to be honored in Washington DC. We are also trying to put together a parade of the cars coming into the park, with each carrying a veteran and decorated with the American Flag.
We are in the process of establishing the entry classes and putting them into club registration. As soon as that task is complete, the event will be open to sign-up and enjoy this special day. Keep a lookout for the notification and make sure that you are a part of the Gold Coast Region honoring its veterans.

The social committee and board of directors review the post event survey feedback to see how participants enjoyed the event, what was done right and what could be better. We have taken interest in the suggestions of the types of events you would like to see take place. Among the suggestions of socials, you told us that you would like to see more drives and tours.
With a bit of autumn, South Florida style, October is a great month to ramp up these kinds of activities. For this fall we will bring back one of the favorite events, Oktoberfest. Members will be departing soon for the North Carolina tour to see the fall leaves and drive the twisty mountain roads. The popular Stone Crab Run will take place in November and we will celebrate our Veterans with the Porsches in the Park Concours. The Restoration and Preservation event will begin as a sponsored cars and coffee at 9 Auto Motion, followed by a group drive to the Elliott Museum for an exciting tour. KMW Motorsports will be hosting our next tech session and swap meet.
From socials, to drives, to concours and tech sessions, there are plenty of activities to choose from in the next couple of months leading up to the holiday season.
Anyone can organize a social so if you have an have an idea for something fun, please contact the members of the Social Committee at socials@ goldcoastregion.org.

Roger Fabel, editor
Living in south Florida, we don’t get to see the change of seasons like the rest of the country, so we brought the beginning of fall, Porsche style, with our beautiful October cover.
Another change that happens in GCR is the election of new officers and directors that will begin on October 15. The new candidate bios were published in our September issue. Details of the election process can be found on page 22 of this issue.
I would like to thank our new board members that made a big impact after our last election. Noemi Sanchez stepped up to the plate and strengthened our charity program. Mike Del Pozo created many new social events along with our first GCR golf tournament.
Mark Johnson brought our Drivers Education program back to life. Our members missed our DE program which was the Gold Standard of PCA for many years. Congratulations Mark and all of the team from Gold Coast and Suncoast Regions who worked so hard to restart this program.
Another new event developed by social chair Christy Spangler was our GCR Bowling event in Coral Springs. My wife Sherry used to be the youth bowling director at that location, so it was great to see the event and the wonderful time that our members had bowling. More details and photos on page 26.
When we advertised for staff writers, we were lucky to find longtime friend of the club and great writer, Alicia Laya. Alicia had always wanted to be a writer, but never had a opportunity.
Check out her great article and three super GCR families on page 10.
Another longtime friend of the club is the focus of our Finding Gold section, Theo Papadopolos. As I review the stories of our members, I am always amazed at the talent we have in our PCA region, hence, the name Gold Coast.
Please review our Help Wanted ads on page 24. Steve and Dottie Kidd will be retiring as Autocross chairs and we need to find their replacements. Also, the Kassette staff could use more help. I have been the editor for 18 years and would like to find an assistant editor along with a graphic artist.
Enjoy your Porsche,
Ian Gerada , membership chair
In recent months, I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with many of our members who frequently attend our socials and events. A common theme is beginning to emerge as our membership demographics evolve: our club must adapt to meet these changing interests and expectations. While our members still cherish the traditional social events such as the 1st Saturday and 2nd Sunday breakfasts, as well as the 3rd Thursday socials and spontaneous gatherings throughout the year, there is a growing desire for more substantial and adventurous experiences.
Members have expressed an interest in expanding beyond just breakfast events. One idea is to combine our breakfasts with a drive to a destination, offering a more engaging experience for those who want to make the most of their day. This approach would cater to both early risers and those who prefer a later start, providing flexibility and variety in our event offerings. Imagine enjoying a hearty breakfast with fellow enthusiasts, followed by a scenic

drive to a curated destination— an experience that blends social interaction with the thrill of driving.
Additionally, there’s potential to elevate our popular drive and dine events by transforming them into drive, dine and overnight stay experiences. These expanded events would not only attract our Porsche enthusiasts but also their partners, who enjoy the social aspects of our club. By offering these types of events, we cater to a broader audience, enhancing the sense of community and shared adventure within our club.
Of course, it’s not just our social events that resonate with our members. Our Driver’s Education (DE) program and tour events are also highly valued. With our DE program gaining momentum, we need to continue its growth into 2025. The North Carolina tour has become a staple among Gold Coast Region members, and we hope this event continues to thrive. Additionally, in 2025, we are excited to host a river
cruise in Germany that will kick off with a visit to the Porsche Museum and Porsche factory. With just over a year to go, we already have 41 members booked for this European adventure, further proving that these types of events are what our members truly enjoy.
Over the years as your membership chair, I’ve observed the increasing demand for these more elaborate events. Unfortunately, the pandemic put a damper on many of our plans, but as we move forward, I firmly believe it’s time to step up our game. We need to offer a wider variety of well-planned and executed events that cater to the diverse tastes of our membership.
While it’s impossible to please everyone all of the time, our goal moving forward is to do our best to meet, and hopefully exceed, the expectations of as many members as possible. By embracing new ideas and adjusting our event lineup, we can ensure that our club remains vibrant, exciting and inclusive for all members.

Sharing something you love with the right person feels magical.
It is no secret that for many, a Porsche is a lifestyle. What may surprise some, however, is that it’s also a bridge to a beautiful relationship and the perfect outlet on four wheels.
In the following stories, we look at the love behind the wheel of GCR couples who have found love with each other and their Porsches.
After her first year into law school, Tamar took an internship with the Broward County State Attorney’s Office. There, she met Larry, an Assistant State Attorney, and, over that summer, their working relationship blossomed into a romantic courtship. After graduation from law school in May 1990, Tamar moved back to South Florida to start her legal career.
Larry and Tamar knew beyond a shadow of a doubt it was time to win this case. They exchanged vows on a picturesque beach at Tamar’s parents’ home in Golden Beach.
Just a few years later, in 1993, Tamar’s father purchased his first Porsche; a purple 911. Tamar and Larry drove that 911 in the mountains of North Carolina and dreamed of owning that vehicle one day. After the death of Tamar’s father, Tamar and Larry purchased that 1993 purple 911 from the estate and became proud members of GCR. Since joining the GCR in 2021, this duo has added a 2022 yellow 911 and a 2024 blue Macan to their collection.
people and especially likes to show off as the unofficial grand marshal at some of the car shows. He proudly accompanies Larry and Tamar to their law offices every day, as their little law eagle.
Larry and Tamar’s affection for Porsches is second only to their love for their two beautiful daughters and their Maltipoo, Munchie. Tamar shared with me how Munchie came into their lives. One night, Tamar and her daughters walked into a fancy pet store in Delray Beach while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. Tamar played with the many dogs in the pet store, but there was a 12 week old puppy that stood out in the crowd. It was 9 pm so the family left the shop and went to dinner, but Tamar could not stop talking or thinking about that puppy.
The Shendells went back the next day to the pet store, on Father’s Day, 2013, and adopted him. Today, 11 year old five pound Munchie is Larry’s favorite (and only) son and the apple of Tamar’s eye. Most folks have seen Munchie at social events. He loves
Larry and Tamar have not only found time for a successful law practice, fulfilling careers and their love for Munchie, but they have also built a collection of Porsches, each of which captures a bit of their journey together. Partners in Porsches, in law and in love.
Tamar and Larry enjoy the socials and shared, “We love the people. It is fun to share a passion for Porsches with other enthusiasts and to establish new friendships.”
The Proposal was a Home Run for Mario and Lissette Gonzalez What started as a circle of friends going out after work, on the social scene at UPS offices in Miami Lakes in 1992, would turn into a romance for Mario and Lissette Gonzalez. The group friendship outings slowly dwindled down to just the two of
them going out, but that’s when their encuentro romantico turned up.
They decided to go out on a first date to Confetti’s in Fort Lauderdale on Disco Night. They spent the night dancing, talking and discovering there was something special between them. Over the next two years, they spent a lot of time at Lissette’s parents’ Islamorada house on its salt-life diet of fishing and jetskiing and sand baring at Holiday Isle. Mario was an avid softball player and Lissette never missed any of his games. One day, after one of his
games, they were sitting in his car chatting. He asked Lissette to look in the glove compartment. When she opened it, he had an engagement ring inside. Mario had just hit a home run! They chose October 21, 1995, as their wedding date off a Hallmark calendar, because it was – The Sweetest Day. Their nuptials were celebrated with family and friends at Little Flower in Coral Gables.
After getting married, Mario’s automobile obsession expanded. Over the years he ended up collecting 30 vehicles. Lissette jokingly added
that she stopped car shopping with him by the 8th car. However, it was in November 2015, they purchased their first Porsche, a 2015 Silver Boxster S. They currently own two Porsches, Mario’s 2017, 911 Carrera S Guards Red, Endurance Racing Edition and Lissette’s 2018 white Macan.
Since joining the GCR in 2021, Mario and Lissette are a highly active successful part of the club, volunteering at many social events and hosting a monthly ‘Porsche and Pancakes’ breakfast social, every second Sunday of the month at Sergio’s in Pembroke Pines.
Their children are Mario, 24 and Chelsea, 26 both in college. Mario is studying computer engineering at FIU, and Chelsea pursuing a PhD in psychology at Nova. Their household also features two fur kids, a 12 year old Poodle named Lucky, and a 3 year old Maltese named Chanel.
Lissette reflects on their club experience that since joining, they have met the most amazing people. “This club has really made a difference in the social aspect of our lives,“ she said.
“The people we have met are our extended family that we truly cherish. We are very blessed to be a part of such an exceptional group,” she commented.
Two-Stepping into Love – Steve and Dottie Kidd
They met in mid-1997 at a country dance hall in Sunrise. They knew very early on that the country rhythms were aligning their heart beats. Very soon after meeting, they became part of the dancing crowd rather than the drinking ones. They loved country dancing so much that they even took their country dance passion two steps further by taking lessons together and with some regularity, they became quite good. They even passed muster with fellow Porsche Texans at the Ft. Worth Porsche Parade.
They went on to date for five years and married in June 2002 at Fern Forest Park at Coconut Creek in a westernthemed wedding. It was fate from the dance floor to forever.
Country dancing was not just one of their shared interests, as their mutual love for Porsches soon set in. Their first Porsche was a 1986 944, in Copenhagen Blue; LSD (not a drug) and M030. Steve liked it so much it became the car they kept for a few years thereafter and the one in which they did many of their autocrosses.
They built quite a Porsche collection over the years, including a few 914s and a few early 911s but currently four in their household which are a 1989 944 S29 in Baltic Blue, a 1991 944 S29 in Cobalt Blue (Billy Grabowski’s last Porsche), a 2004 996 GT3 in Carrera White and a 2009 Cayman S in Metallic Grey.
Dottie and Steve Kidd working the PCA GCR Hospitality booth at the 2020 DRT event
Steve has an impressive 52 years as a PCA member, while Dottie proudly marks 27 years with the club.
I asked Steve, what has kept him and Dottie dedicated to this club.? Steve shared with me that it’s the social and competitive activities the club has to offer, especially the big national and multi-regional events such as the Porsche Parade, Treffen at Sea and Rennfest, but they also enjoy any outing where they can meet new members, share experiences and volunteer when and where needed. Autocross is also a big favorite of the Kidds. It’s not only fun racing, but couples who race together have a good competitive spirit and enjoy a good-naturedly ribbing of each other and debates about whose car set-ups and driving techniques are best.
Steve and Dottie
For Steve and Dottie Kidd, country dancing through life together meant a journey fueled by a shared love for Porsches, family and friends.
Love behind the wheel can be the thrill of the drive with your loved one, the humbling accomplishment of restoring a car together, and the shared excitement of competition.
These couples prove that a Porsche can be one of the bases of a lifelong and rewarding relationship.
And should the car ever break down, it can now also be repaired together. Well, hopefully.
Theo Papadopoulos, Team Leader, Manager, Instructor
A very long history in motorsports, with a desire to do it right…
Member Feature by Mark Johnson
Theo Papadopoulos has been racing Porsche automobiles and working with Porsche race teams for over 30 years as a professional. If you include the first visit to a race shop in Toronto, it adds up to about 57 years. It’s been one heck of a ride so far, with quite a few years and track miles to go. There are trophies to commemorate the efforts and to celebrate the podiums. The best part is his effort at the track with Gold Coast and the HPDE program over the years. Porsche race cars and speed are in his blood, and he’s always sharing that enthusiasm for the track.
Theo was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. As a young lad, much of his summertime was spent on a bicycle on various exploration and discovery rides. One morning while traversing an industrial warehouse area near his home, he came across an independent race shop owned by Ludwig Heimrath. Ludwig’s shop was preparing several Porsche vehicles (RS and RSR type 911s) that were being readied for the track.
Racing occurs during the summer at Mosport. The track is known today as the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.
Mr. Heimrath was not especially keen on having a seven-year-old kid hanging around the shop. But while he occasionally was able to “shoo” Theo away, young Papadopoulos would hide his bike nearby and watch and listen to the incredible activity at the shop. The four Porsches
were under constant repair and enhancements for race day. The Mosport track was about 47 miles east of Toronto and it was a great draw in the ‘70s and ‘80s for drivers such as AJ Foyt, Hurley Haywood, Peter Gregg and of course, young Theo.
Eventually, in 1987 Theo became an employee of the Heimrath organization working as a service writer to start, greeting customers and writing down the work to be completed on their respective Porsche vehicles. The experience gained with Ludwig Heimrath allowed Theo to gain an in depth understanding of Porsche autos, refinements necessary for racing the machines, regular service and repair and in working with customers,
drivers, owners and technicians. Each are invaluable skills when developing a race team for competition at places like Daytona, Sebring and many of the other famous tracks. This included working with Heimrath on their 944 and the 968 race programs.
With a few years under his belt, Theo moved to Pfaff Porsche. He sold cars for Pfaff. It was an exciting time to be involved with sports car racing but living in Toronto, left much to be desired. The summer racing season was very short and the Canadian winters are not all that enjoyable. For proof, ask any Canadian why they choose to winter roughly six months of the year in South Florida, especially Hollywood. It’s a bunch warmer, eh?
Looking at his options, California or Florida, Theo packed away his snow shovel and heavy winter coats and left for the Sunshine State. With a southern sun in his windshield, he moved to Miami Beach on October 24, 1994. This month he celebrates being a Floridian for 30 years, basically half of his life.
In Florida, change was inevitable. Besides better weather, the race scene was substantially more active than it had been up north. The big
draw to Florida was racing at Daytona and Sebring. At the time the Porsche opportunity was moving from the 911 vintage to more powerful 934s and 935s with the 962s arriving shortly after. Theo met and became friends with Kevin Wheeler of KMW Motorsports. Kevin, as we know, is a skilled Porsche technician. He introduced Theo around the many shops and teams that competed in Porsche vehicles. It was an area of rich racing talent and opportunity stretching from Stuart down through Miami.
During the shop introductions, The Collection was on the ‘go see’ list. The visit to the Collection resulted in a job offering as a sales representative. On the sales floor, with skills honed at both Heimrath and Pfaff Porsche, he was fortunate enough to assist the Carlos de Quesada family with a “new vehicle.” The vehicle selected by Mrs. de Quesada just happened to be a Giallo Modena Yellow Ferrari 355. It was a highly unique, chance meeting and car sale that led to a far better opportunity a few years later. Carlos de Quesada certainly recognized quite a bit of talent in Theo during the sale/ purchase of the Ferrari.
It was in mid-90s that Theo became active with the PCA Gold Coast Region. He was introduced to Kyle Rathbun, a highly skilled race driver who competed at the Daytona Rolex 24 Hour race. Theo also met fellows like Dan Smithyman, Mike Tartar, Bob Varela, Mike Joffee, Steve Kidd and so many other GCR guys. Bob Varela Sr. encouraged Theo to get involved with the Region, especially given his expertise in HDPE driving and instructing. During the 90’s, GCR practically owned the Homestead track and the DE program at GCR was considered the best in the country. Theo taught high speed track driving, and he excelled.
Throughout these years, Carlos de Quesada and Theo became familiar with each other at the Homestead track. Each were involved with the PCA Gold Coast Region DE program. After experiencing Theo’s skills as a sales guy at The Collection, he now had the opportunity to examine in detail the talents in building fast cars and developing fast drivers.
It was in 2004 when Carlos asked Theo to join the Alegra Motorsports team as team manager. They raced for two years with some success, but a low point was transited at a race in
Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park in 2006. It was a very disappointing finish. With Carlos’ approval,Theo brought in several highly skilled members of Fiorano Racing of Toronto. Theo knew the guys and their experience and together they worked diligently to turn the team around.
The changes made by Theo led to the racing highlight of his career. The Alegra-Fiorano were privateers, a race entrant that is not directly supported by the automobile manufacturer. In 2007 they took on the big boys, the factory teams and won their class in the prestigious Rolex 24 Hour race. The single car Porsche GT3 Cup was driven by none other than Carlos de Quesada (Driver and Team Owner), Jean-Francis Dumoulin, Scooter Gabe and Marc Basseng. The AlegraFiorano Motorsports #22 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car took first place, the top podium position in the GT class.
Gold Coast Region member, Dan Smithyman, wrote an article for the Kassette several years ago that examined the win, the team and the car. The article provides a great amount of interesting insight into what it takes to compete at a truly international level.
That experience was exceptional and led to several other opportunities. Most recently Theo was working with Kelly-Moss Motorsports which won the Championship for 2023 in the Pro-Am division of the Carrera Cup. Theo has spent time with TRG Racing and he is currently owner and principle with his
own company Tyss Motorsports. Tyss Motorsports was founded in 2015. They perform vehicle service, maintenance and vehicle upgrades. They also provide track and race prep. A big part of his operation is driver evaluation and professional coaching.
Theo participated as a driver in many races. He was in Puerto Rico for a PCA Club Race that resulted in a very serious accident. Theo hit a wall at speed and spent four months in the hospital, paralyzed. With the help, support, and encouragement of many Gold Coast members, especially Fred Kohly, Kyle Rathbun and Mike Tarter, he pulled through. There was a substantial amount of concern for Theo, his mental and physical condition, and his desire and ability to recover from such a life threatening incident.
Fred Kohly was the fellow who brought Theo all the way back to active racing, instructing and life at the track. Back on his feet Theo visited a GCR DE at Homestead, just to observe. Fred had other ideas and borrowed a race helmet from a buddy. Giving the helmet to Theo, and the keys to his own Porsche track car, Fred insisted that Papadopoulos get back into the driver’s seat and take a few laps. Mental and emotional hesitation was causing great angst for Theo, but he took the wheel, did the laps and was smiling upon his track exit to the paddock.
As a professional driving coach, he gets paid by students to learn to drive on the track, fast and safely. He also shares his talent with Gold Coast as a volunteer instructor. Anyone should be fortunate to have Theo become their high-speed driving mentor. Theo says, “I’m the boss, I’m the coach. I am risking my life to teach you and you need to listen to me 110%!” He expects every student to allow him to drive the first three laps of the first session.
With this approach he can show how to drive smooth, look ahead and locate and observe the corner worker/ flag stations. He will also identify the key marking of the racetrack which indicate the braking point, corner turn in, apex and track out. Imparting
his wisdom and experience calmly and effectively, makes Theo an exceptional teacher.
Gold Coast Region has been very fortunate to have Theo rejoin the HPDE program as an instructor. He worked with Louie Maragos at our June 22nd event at HMS and is looking forward to being back in the right seat this September. Theo’s daughter Sofia will be moving in at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL for the fall ’24 semester. Theo intends to make the trek north to help her move in. With a bit of luck and timing, he hopes to return to Miami for the track event and instructor duties.
Theo is married to Yolanda and they have two children, son Steven and daughter Sofia. He grew up in Toronto, but he considers himself a Floridian. He’s been a Gold Coast Region member since 1995. He’s owned a few PCars and currently has a 2002 996 Coupe, 6-speed in Speed Yellow that is in storage waiting for some repairs. Theo has also owned
a couple ’87 944 Turbos and a 1988 930 Slant Nose. The list of Porsche vehicles he “really likes” is long. One might just pick a year and a model, and yep, he likes it.
Beyond Porsche and the track, being from Canada he is also an ice hockey fan. He roots for our Florida Panthers and was ecstatic that the CATS won the Stanley Cup this year! He already has seats with his son for the Panthers ’24-25 season opening game.
AND HE’S CARRIED THE STANLEY CUP! While in Toronto, he became a friend of Nick Kypreos who played left wing for the New York Rangers. They met through a mutual buddy. When the Rangers won the Cup in 1994, Theo spent some time with Nick and the Cup. We have the photo of Theo carrying the Cup, overhead of course, around their hometown. We hear there are several stories about the event, but this is a family newsletter.
To Theo, family is everything. They are first. But he will also admit to being
happiest at the racetrack or at the beach. Florida beaches are much nicer than those in Toronto (Do they even have one beach up there?)
We are quite lucky that Theo found the warmth of Florida and the Gold Coast Region. As a home for the most recent 30 years, we expect him to stay a bit longer and share his talents with our HPDE program and our budding drivers.
Theo "celebrates" with the Stanley Cup in 1994, chug-a-lug Champ!

This 2020 Porsche Macan just received its second Permagard Service Treatment application! It was treated to a Permagard initial application of our Reactive Polymer when it was newly purchased 4 years ago, and as you can see, it still looks be er than brand new. The Permagard Service Treatment is a process that consists of cleaning the Permagard protective coating that was installed to this vehicle 4 years ago. The beautiful Miami Blue color, manufactured by Glasurit, on this Macan is something truly special to behold. Permagard is the only product available today than can make this color shine like the night lights of South Beach! Permagard acts as a durable, sacrificial layer that is added on top of your original paint to protect 100% of the paint’s thickness over its lifespan. Permagard’s added layer, combined with 100% of your paint’s thickness, is what gives the incredible depth of shine and wet-look e ect that Permagard is famous for. Our competitors require wet sanding, compounding, and clay barring before their products can be applied. All of these processes remove layers of your original paint, therefore, reducing its thickness. Using our competitors’ products will result in reduced depth of gloss and protection, as the paint you are trying to protect will get thinner and thinner over time. Choose Permagard if you want to durably protect 100% of your original depth of gloss and shine! Call our Permagard Headquarters today at (305) 662-5070, to experience the Permagard di erence. It’s time to shine and see yourself in your beautiful Porsche!
We are looking for Gold Coast members who would like to help with the production of our club magazine. The following positions are open:
Please contact editor Roger Fabel at rfabel@aol.com for information.
We would like to do a special tribute article about all past Kassette Editors and the history of the Kassette.
After 20 + years of running the AutoX program, we are looking to retire, most likely sometime in 2025. Dottie and I will be looking to train and mentor the next generation of AutoX chair and registrar. Please contact us if you have an interest in being trained and possibly carrying the AutoX torch in the years to come. Over the next few months, I will cover some of the most pressing situations that future AutoX managers will face. This Month, Equipment-Part 1, which will talk about the AutoX trailer. Next month I’ll discuss timing equipment. Towing and maintenance of the trailer has always fallen on the plate of the AutoX chair which can be time consuming, especially if the chair is also participating as a driver. I would suggest that in the future, alternative ways be explored to deal with the trailer. The trailer contains most of the things needed to run an AutoX!
Please contact AX Chair Steve Kidd at 954-292-3915

August 24 was a typical South Florida summer day being hot, humid with scattered storms. Thirty GCR members kept cool and dry at Bowlero in Tamarac for a friendly and spirited bowling game.
We cordoned off an area at Bowlero’s parking lot where we could park together just outside the entrance. Paul Laya, with the help of Ed Holden, volunteered to help with the reserved parking. Once our GCR members arrived, they checked in with Virginia Holden, picked up their shoes and selected a bowling ball, their bowling mates and lanes. The GCR logo and graphics were displayed over the pits at the end of our five reserved lanes.
During our session, we enjoyed a tasty buffet of typical bowling-style finger foods including boneless chicken wings, cheese pizza and cheeseburger sliders.
Some of our bowlers were experienced, while others have not picked up a bowling ball in quite some time. Between all the strikes, spares, missed pins and gutters, great camaraderie and laughter ensued.
For hitting seven strikes, Mario Gonzalez received the Most Strikes trophy, and the Most Gutters trophy went to Peter Olliviere for hitting the most double gutters.
Thank you to all that came out to get their GAME ON and thank you to our volunteers Paul, Virgina & Ed for assisting with the event.
This event was planned due to a suggestion received on a post event survey. The social committee and board of directors review the post event survey feedback to see how we can improve and look for suggestions. We appreciate that you take the time to fill out the surveys to share your thoughts.

Labor Day weekend brought a memorable escape for members of the PCA Gold Coast Region during our “End of Summer Getaway” to Cape Coral. The weekend was a fantastic blend of scenic drives, delicious meals and relaxation, with 50 members joining in, showcasing the spirit and camaraderie that make our club so special.
A few eager members couldn’t wait for the weekend to begin and headed to Cape Coral on Friday afternoon. Their early arrival set the tone for a weekend filled with fun, camaraderie and plenty of Porsche talk. They enjoyed a quiet evening at Tarpon Point Marina, getting a head start on exploring the
area and unwinding before the main group arrived.
Most of our group gathered on Saturday morning in Broward for a convoy drive across the alley to Cape Coral. The sight of 25 Porsches driving in unison was truly something special. Despite concerns about rain, we were blessed with excellent weather for most of the weekend. Our convoy arrived at Pinchers restaurant in Tarpon Point Marina without a hitch, where each member was greeted by Vanessa and Bobby Varela with a warm smile and a thoughtfully prepared gift bag—a lovely touch that set the tone for the hospitality we would experience throughout the weekend.
Saturday Afternoon: Poolside Relaxation
After a delightful lunch at Pinchers, members took the opportunity to relax by the pool. The warm weather and serene setting provided the perfect environment for unwinding and enjoying some downtime. This leisurely afternoon was a welcome break, giving everyone the chance to recharge before the
evening’s festivities. The sense of community was palpable as members mingled, shared stories and simply enjoyed each other’s company.
As the sun began to set, we made our way to Gather restaurant for a gourmet dinner that exceeded all expectations. The food was a true highlight, with each dish prepared and presented beautifully. After dinner, the group gathered at the Westin Hotel bar, where the fun continued late into the night—some members even closed down the bar!
Sunday morning started with a delicious brunch at Point 57 Kitchen & Cocktails, offering a variety of dishes that catered to every taste. In true PCA fashion, a few adventurous members took a detour to Sanibel Island for their own brunch experience, while others enjoyed another relaxing day by the pool or ventured out to explore Tarpon Point’s hidden gems. Sunday evening was free for members to dine and explore at their leisure.
As Monday morning arrived, members began to say their goodbyes. Some took advantage of the final hours of sunshine by the pool, while others packed up early to head back home. The weekend was a resounding success, leaving everyone with smiles and already looking forward to next year’s getaway.
To all who attended, thank you for making this weekend one to remember. A special thank you to Vanessa for her exceptional leadership and thoughtful planning, which made this event truly outstanding. Until next time, see you on the road!

It was a fun Christmas day for fellow Porsche member Don Broschard (a.k.a. “Poppy”) of Stuart, Florida, and his six-month-old little grandson Jaxson (“Jax”), who received his a mini-Porsche from his Poppy to celebrate his first Christmas. As you can see, Jax is a natural already knowing how to give the drag race signal! He will become our youngest current PCA Junior member, and no doubt will have many more awesome rides with Poppy over the years. Welcome to the club Jax! Nice look!

Donald Trager submitted this photo of his 2011 997.2 cabriolet. This was taken at Boca West Country Club where he calls home. Donald has owned three Mercedes Benz SL’s, four Ferraris and five Porsches. His 997.2 has most, if not all the options available for that model year. “This 2011 is a keeper!” says Donald.
When he is not on a lively drive, this 997.2 cab is tucked away safely, sleeping in Donald’s garage.
Donald took this picture with a Canon PowerShot A2200.
