Boyfriend of missing woman found dead
NCEBA DLADLA
F
AMILY members of a KwaZakhele mother who went missing just over three weeks ago, fear that they may never get answers regarding her disappearance, after her boyfriend allegedly hanged himself last week. Azola Wendy Njokweni (30), who is the mother of a girl (6) and an employee of the Department of Basic Education, mysteriously went missing on Monday, September 14. Her boyfriend, whose name is known to Express Indaba, allegedly hanged himself last week. During the investigation into Azola’s disappearance, he denied any know-edge of her whereabouts. Azola’s supervisor, Antoinette de Wet, said accounting clerk Njokweni had not turned up for work on that day – something which was very unusual for her. “We thought she might be out of town and was unable to phone be-

cause it was not her style to miss work and not communicate with us. By the time she had been absent from work for two days, we really started worrying,” De Wet said. After trying fruitlessly to reach her on her cell phone, they contacted her family and the police. “Azola was beautiful at heart. Everybody loved her in the payroll section,” De Wet said. “She was a quiet person who did not speak unless it was really necessary. “We knew that she had issues with her boyfriend, who was not the father of her child. “We knew this, because there were times when she was physically abused and told us that her current boyfriend did it. “We do not know whether she was still seeing the father of her child, but we know that she loved her baby girl very much.” De Wet said they had sent out posters and messages on WhatsApp and Facebook, asking for assistance in locating Azola. Azola’s sister, Ntombizodwa Njokweni (42), who has been looking after Azola’s daughter since her disappearance, said their home was in Ncapayi Street in Kwazakhele, but that Azola rented a flat in Ngcangca Street, also in Kwazakhele. She said they had accompanied the police to Azola’s flat. “The police forced the doors of Azola’s flat open in order to search it, but Azola wasn’t there.” They then took the police to Azola’s boyfriend’s address to make inquiries. The boyfriend allegedly denied any knowledge of Azola’s

I asked him myself and he still denied knowing. He said Azola had asked that he gave her some space,” said Ntombizodwa. Ntombizodwa said that while they were searching for Azola at hospitals, police stations and

friends, they had been shocked to hear last Friday that Azola’s boyfriend had allegedly hanged himself. “The police told us he had left a note, but had said nothing about Azola. We do not know what to do anymore,” she said. Police spokesperson Constable Mncedi Mbombo confirmed that a

missing persons case had been opened for investigation at the Kwazakhele police station. He also confirmed that the boyfriend’s death is believed to have been a suicide. New city manager could be a key factor in the 2016 elections
ODETTE KEMP
THE city manager could soon be sent packing, but his replacement could become the cornerstone in the political battle for Nelson Mandela Bay in 2016. According to Prof. Joleen Steyn-Kotze, political analyst from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), the rul-
ing party would face a lot of pressure if they replaced Mpilo Mbambisa. Mbambisa, who has been on sick leave since the start of September, is facing a string of fraud and corruption charges. The municipality is still in the final negotiation stages of a settlement agreement, after which Mbambisa is expected to vacate his post. Negotiations are expected to be finalised this month. The metro will then have to choose his
successor carefully, said Steyn-Kotze. “It is a highly contested position because of the authority that comes with it,” she pointed out. “A lot of allegations of political interference have surfaced in the past, though it is meant to be an administrative position only. The next city manager will have to be one that is impervious to political influence.” This decision could be an important fac-
tor in the municipal elections in 2016, SteynKotze added. “The DA is coming on quite strong in their campaign. If the candidate for city manager comes from within the ANC ranks, the focus should rather be on skills and leadership, as opposed to political background. “The city needs a manager who can rise above corruption and lead the metro forward.”
DA calls on residents to use their power to end bucket toilet system NCEBA DLADLA DA mayoral candidate Athol Trollip was in Walmer Township last Friday as part of his electioneering campaign, “Sixty Wards in Sixty Days around Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality”. He was accompanied by PE West constituency Leader and MPL Bobby Stevenson, PR councillor Thobani Noqoli and other DA local leaders. During his visit to G-West, an area without electricity and sanitation, Trollip said this was part of assessing for himself the dire sanitation conditions in which residents have found themselves, even 21 years after democracy. “Even the road into this area shows that the people living here are not cared for,” he said, adding that the visit to Walmer, the 22nd Ward, was aimed at addressing the second of his seven pillars launched during his campaign last week - eradication of the bucket toilet system. The bucket system, he said, was the creation and legacy of the apartheid government, and for which the ANC government should also shoulder the blame after 21 years in power. In the last count last year, according to Trollip, there were 30 202 bucket toilets in Nelson Mandela Bay and 3 000 of those were in Walmer Township. “This is a travesty and a disgraceful legacy of corrupt, uncaring government that
has failed dignified sanitation to the people,” said Trollip, telling residents to use their democratic right and unseat the ANC. Distressed residents took Trollip around to show him and his entourage and journalists the mess they were in, without proper sanitation, after countless promises from the ANC-led municipal council. Resident Nomaxabiso Phillip said it was very difficult for her family of nine to relieve themselves with dignity. “We are a family of nine in a shack. We use one bucket which is shared between two shacks. It is collected once in two weeks, and we have to pay the collectors a tip, otherwise they won’t collect it,” said Sandisiwe Noqulo, another resident. Trollip promised to personally hand over an application to the provincial South African Human Rights Commission in East London and to write to Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane, demanding an urgent and total eradication of the bucket system in the metro. He said he would also solicit a meeting with mayor Danny Jordaan to demand that the budget allocated for bucket eradication was spent. Failing this, sick and tired residents would use their democratic right to vote his party out of the municipality. He urged residents not to use ineffective strategies like toyi-toying. “Demand change or vote them out of power next year. That’s the power you have. Use it.”

Dalindyebo made this announcement in an exclusive interview with Express last Sunday, October 4 at Bumbane Great Place. Dalindyebo’s announcement followed a judgement handed down by the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein on Thursday, October 1. Dalindyebo had been convicted in 2010 in the Mthatha High court of crimes like arson, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, culpable homicide and defeating the ends of justice. He was sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison and he appealed. He said even now, as the Royal family they were going to appeal in the constitutional court regarding the judge-

ment. “So everything will depend on the outcome of the constitutional court. But even if I am going to jail, my son will take the throne as my successor. “I am prepared for anything, but if God is around me there will be nothing that will happen even in that prison and I will never give up in praying. Even if I go to jail that is not the end of the road. There is a life even after the prison,” said Dalindyebo with his face full of shame. Meanwhile, on the same day, Bumbane has hosted a number of traditional leaders of AbaThembu, discussing the matter of how to save the king. Among the issues discussed during the meeting, was the clarity on who should be members of the royal house and who not. The Dlomos who were present at the meeting also agreed to support the king financially with his court battle. A prayer session was also conducted, appealing to God to save the king from this dark cloud shadowing him.

Coega helps less advantaged scholars achieve dreams INDABA REPORTER A FORMER Molly Blackburn High School matriculant, now in his third year of medical studies in Cuba, says his encouraging grandmother, teachers and the support of the Coega Development Corporation’s (CDC) mobile science laboratory initiative helped him turn his dreams of becoming a neurologist into a reality. Lubabalo Jonas, who was raised by his grandmother in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, is a third-year student at the Escuelo Latinona Americana de Medicina – an international medical school – in Cuba. Speaking at his old school while on a visit home recently, he attributed some of his success to the unwavering support he received from the CDC mobile science laboratory initiative, his teachers and family. “My grandmother always encouraged me and my five siblings to follow our dreams and said that education and hard work were the key factors that propelled one to greatness. “Resources are limited in the tradi-

manager Mpumezo Ndabeni said he had seen a significant increase in students using the services of the mobile lab since its introduction in 2010, and thereafter pursuing studies in the
much-needed science, technology, environment and maths industries. About 5 000 pupils a year are assisted by the labs, which are based in Uitenhage, Mdantsane, Alice, Fort Beaufort and Mthatha. During the 2014/15 financial year, the CDC spent R1.1-million on the programme. “The purpose of the initiative is to supplement physical science studies with practical work, since most of the historically disadvantaged schools lack the resources to attend to this important learning component,” said Thandi Rayi, CDC CSI manager. “We believe that mobile science laboratories can close that gap through the use of modern technological equipment. The CDC labs not only provide material resources, but also laboratory managers who provide hands-on assistance,” Jonas, who hopes to be an astute neurologist like American Dr Ben Carson, said the language barrier had been a challenge when he first arrived in Cuba, as all the modules were taught in Spanish. However, after attending a three-
month language course, he and the other South African students were able to translate the Spanish literature. The Cuba project is a collaboration between the two countries and is funded by the Eastern Cape Department of Health, with the aim of boosting the number of medical practitioners in the province. Ndabeni remembers Jonas as hardworking and “always determined to achieve the best results in class”. “I am happy that he has come this far with his studies,” Ndabeni said. CDC mobile science lab facilitator William Bell also recalled how focused and diligent Jonas had been while at school, and said he had been one of the best pupils he had tutored. “More than half of the scholars attending the mobile labs programme continue with their studies in the fields of maths and science,” Bell said. “The Cuba project is also a great opportunity for aspiring doctors, as some come from underprivileged backgrounds and are prevented from continuing with their studies owing to financial difficulties.”
Church women pray for end to police killings NCEBA DLADLA WOMEN belonging to the Uniting Reformed Church in New Brighton asked for permission last Thursday to pray for the end of the scourge of police killings. New Brighton police station commander, Colonel Solomon Samson, accepted the call from amanina with open arms. He had given the church’s Christian Women Ministry on its usual day of prayer, Thursday, an opportunity to evoke the Holy Spirit of God to take control, police spokesperson Constable Mncedi Mbombo
said. “About 20 women accompanied by church rector Reverend Luxolo Titimana were joined by members of staff, including police detectives and visible policing, human resources, support services, community police forum and victim support centre members - all calling on God to intervene,” Mbombo said. The killing of police was wrong, the URC women said. “Police officials are human beings too. They are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters and relatives who are employed to look after communities, to provide safety. “We want to say thank you
for this initiative by the Uniting Reformed Church Women Christian Ministry. Even though we ourselves do pray in pursuance of our jobs, we appreciate the initiative which sends a very strong message that some people out there care. We hope other churches will do the same,” Mbombo said. Uniting Reformed Church members protest against police killings in New Brighton last Thursday. Speaker Baleka Mbethe visits king of Amaxhosa BABALWA NDLANYA NATIONAL Assembly speaker, Baleka Mbethe, visited the Nqadu Great Place in Willowvale last week to hear the grievances of traditional leaders after a request by the Amaxhosa King Zwelonke Sigcau. Mbethe was accompanied by the speaker of the Eastern Cape legislature, Noxolo Kiviet, and parliamentary social development commitee chairperson, Zoleka Capa. The meeting with King Sigcau was preceded by a gala dinner where the speaker and her Eastern Cape legislature coun-
terpart engaged with an organisation representing women from the royal households, called Imbumba Yamakhosikazi Akomkhulu. The purpose of the dinner was to discuss the role women could play in the advancement of rural communities. Among the grievances voiced by the traditional leaders was that most of the time they felt left out by ward councillors even though the land belonged to them. They asked the government to ensure that it also engaged them when taking decisions, for instance on the issue of children being allowed to have

abortions at the age of 12. That was supposed to be discussed with the traditional leaders, because it involved children who lived on their land, they said. Sigcau also lashed out at the government over the way he was treated. He said they had asked several times that the road to the sea be upgraded and tarred, because it was used by tourists. “We have asked this several times, but no one is fulfilling the promise. To ensure that there is a good relationship between us and the government, these problems must be ironed out. We also have a bridge in this area which is killing people because it is not in a good condition.” He said he was the king of the Xhosa nation and that even President Jacob Zuma had attended his coronation ceremony, but that he was not treated like the king of Kwazulu-Natal. He said he did not get enough money from the government. For example a bus accident had claimed the lives of 35 people in Willowvale, but they did not get even a cent to assist family members. “Even when I am invited by kings in other provinces it is sometimes hard for me to go, because the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs in the Eastern Cape
always says there is no money to book a flight and accommodation for me.” He said if the traditional leaders were allowed to work with the government there would have been a lot of changes by now, but that according to him, unfortunately the traditional leaders were just chased out anytime the government felt like it. Sigcau said if the government did not want to work with them, it must leave them and they would see what they could do. Mbethe said the meeting was very important, because there would now be better communication between the government and the traditional leaders. “Even though I cannot lie and say we will manage to solve your issues immediately, we will make sure that you get better feedback from the government. “We have to understand that sometimes we send people to stand for us in the ANC, but not all of them do what we expect them to do and others are corrupt. “We will not sit back and watch those corrupt people do as they want,” Mbethe said. She told the traditional leaders that it was important for them to try to solve any problems they might face, before going to a national level.

Ozayo Ndamase goes national - releasing CD to praise and worship God NCEBA DLADLA GAUTENG-based Port Elizabeth gospel music producer, Sizwe Zako, has unearthed new talent from the dungeons of Libode in Nyandeni in the Transkei. This musical treasure with the hoarse voice, is Ozayo Ndamase (26). His album “Ndicele Ntonye,” shows Zako’s a golden touch, similarly brought by great stars like Rebecca Malope and Vuyo Mokoena. It is through Sizwe Zako Production that we were blessed by Eastern Cape groups like Bantu Church of Christ, the Lord’s Comforters and Youth with Mission from where artists such as Veliswa Skeyi, Malibongwe Gcwabe and Khanyisa – to mention but few – had been able to cut their teeth. Through Ozayo – who was born with deformed feet, is blind and could not speak properly for a long time – Zako has discov-
ered a true worshipper with great talent. Meeting Ozayo was by sheer chance, reminisced Zako. He said he was assisting with the Battle of the Municipalities Talent Search in Mthatha, where as they were packing up to leave, Ozayo came and pleaded that they gave him a chance. “He blew us away. I realised that this was real talent. Ozayo told me that for him it was not about the competition. He asked me to record him, because there was this thing boiling inside him which wanted to get out. And the rest, as they say, is history,” said Zako proudly. Zako used “the best engineers” to work on Ozayo’s sound and he is happy with the final product – great praise and worship songs sung with sincerity by someone who did not just sing, according to Zako, but who also is a believer who trusts in God. “I have never been to school. I was born with a disability. I suffered from fits and both
my parents (Magadi and Sicelo Ndamase) died while I was still young,” said Ozayo, the eighth of nine children. He said he started singing from an early age. He said he joined the Assembles of God Church and sang from hearing other people sing. People paid him R20 to buy bread. “I want to thank God for tat’ uSizwe Zako. The Lord bless him,” he said. He added that he wanted to thank Bishop Tsepho Machea too, for giving him his first break at cutting a CD. He sold the music himself until he heard of the talent search competition which gave him the break to sell his music in all music stores in the country.

‘Rivonia Trial’ staged at City Hall this week NCEBA DLADLA TOTAL Solutions is staging the internationally acclaimed one-man play, Rivonia Trial, featuring Monde Wani, at the Port Elizabeth City Hall today and tomorrow. The production tells the story of former President Nelson Mandela’s famous trial, where he made a fundamental speech that revealed his martyrdom against Apartheid in a fight for freedom, peace, social justice and equality. This well-written piece has had good reviews in the US, Germany, Scotland, Sweden and England. Proud playwright, Wani, said Mandela had once seen the pro-
duction as part of his birthday celebrations and had been impressed. Other trialists who have watched the production include Ahmed Kathrada, Dennis Goldberg and Andrew Mlangeni. Wani boasts having had one-onone discussions with Mandela’s lawyer, George Bizos, who shared valuable information on the intricacies of the widely publicised case which shook South Africa and the international community. Asked what had inspired this beautiful story that depicts a better part of South African history, Wani said, “I read Mandela’s biography Long Walk To Freedom and I was inspired. It was a good story to tell.”

Wani was amazed by the love the Rivonia trialists showed for people they did not even know. The selflessness they showed in ensuring that South Africa was free was in itself touching, according to the Port Elizabeth-born playwright. Wani urged people from Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounding areas to come and watch the production. “We cannot celebrate the freedom we enjoy in this country today without celebrating the Rivonia trial. Present generations must know this history.” The performance starts at 7pm on both nights. Tickets cost R100 per person.
Young art lovers invited to museum’s spring holiday workshop ART-LOVING children in Nelson Mandela Bay, including those from the township and the northern areas, are invited to a Spring School Holiday Workshop at the Art Museum today and tomorrow from 9am to noon. “The Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality’s Art Museum
will offer a one-day programme designed for local children of eight years of age and older who want to explore the art of drawing and painting,” municipal spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki said. “This is ideally meant for those children who do not normally get the opportunity to visit the museum and
experience the art of painting,” the museum’s administration clerk, Roxanne Bower, said. “This is an opportunity we are giving to members of the public, and especially those who do not have enough time and resources to learn art,” she said. Among other things, interested
children will learn about colour and tone and will also experiment with colour mixing. “They will learn how to draw and bring 3D objects to life. Themes will be inspired by the art museum’s collection,” she said, adding that the number was limited to between 15 and 20, so it will be on a first-come,
first-served basis and bookings are essential. Bower said the cost of R30 per person per workshop includes all materials. Participants are urged to wear old T-shirts and to bring lunch or snacks. For more information or to book, call the Art Museum on 041 506 2000. – NCEBA DLADLA

ZWIFA ARS tourney results SELBY MADIKANE ZWIDE Football Association (ZWIFA) Accurate Reworks Systems (ARS) tournament games took place at the Zwide Stadium on Saturday. Following their 2-1 win over Major Chiefs a fortnight ago, Manchester City succumbed 2-1 to ZWIFA’s newly promoted side, Young Killers. In the battle of the rookies, Hungry Lions let down their supporters when they lost 2-1 to Shooting Stars. Swartkops Unit-
ed returned to their winning ways when they defeated the gutsy Zwide Pirates 2-1. To the dismay of their supporters, Camper United forfeited their three points when they failed to honour their game against Real Crusaders. Shining Stars were held to a goalless draw by Zwide Pirates. Golden Aces punished Gal City severely when they drubbed them 3-0. The game of Kuyasa United and Morning Stars was regarded as a dead game as both sides failed to pitch up for their game.
Major Chiefs collect silverware SELBY MADIKANE ZWIDE Football Association (ZWIFA) double champions, Major Chiefs, collected silverware when they beat Sophakama 2-0 in the ZWIFA Mayoral Cup finals at the Zwide Stadium on Sunday. Playing without their suspended skipper Zuko Mafayi, Chiefs stood their ground. Sophakama gave Chiefs a headache as they kept knocking on their door. The first half ended with neither side registering a goal. Chiefs were fired up in the second half, keeping Sophakama goal stopper, Si-
yahluma Maswana, busy. Chiefs registered their first goal when Lwando Mfino scored a beautiful goal after he rounded two Sophakama defenders to put his team 1-0 ahead. Chiefs could have doubled the lead, as their substitute Aphiwe Williams failed to beat goalkeeper Maswana, who pulled a brilliant close range save. Mfino delivered a nifty pass to Williams who banged in a last goal for Chiefs, leading them to a well-deserved 2-0 win. Despite losing 2-0, Maswana was named the man of the match, because he denied Chiefs many scoring opportunities in one-on-one situations.

Bay to host title fight for SA Welterweight vacancy NCEBA DLADLA NELSON Mandela Bay will host a vacant South African Welterweight title fight in the main bout over 12 rounds between challengers, Anelisa Gungqisa of Port Elizabeth and Gauteng’s Sean Ness, at Nangoza Jebe Great Hall in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth on Friday, October 23. SA’s number two ranked Gungqisa – who is known by the moniker Sugar Ray – is the latest hope of Nelson Mandela Bay to finally staking a claim to the national boxing title among its male pugilists, since March 1994 when Mbulelo Nyanda of KwaNobuhle lost his SA Junior Flyweight title to East London’s Vuyani Keswa in Johannesburg. This major boxing tournament will be brought courtesy of Silindokuhle Boxing Promotions headed by Sibongile Nkebe of
Despatch. It is sanctioned by the governing Boxing South Africa (BSA). In the main supporting bout over six rounds, Eastern Cape Junior Welterweight champion, Lungisani Jikani of Port Elizabeth – who is ranked in the number one spot in the national Junior Welterweights – will square off with Asanda Jacobs of KwaNobuhle.Ji-kani’s trainer Caiphus Ntante believes this will be a warm-up fight for his charge who is scheduled to challenge newly crowned Grant Fourie of Gauteng, for the title. There’ll be more exciting bouts on the cards with PE’s Siphosethu Ncisana facing Nkosi-nathi Zwengu of KwaNobuhle over six rounds in the catchweight and another exci-ting PE lad, Lusindiso Siyo, locking horns with Kirkwood’s Luvuyo Mzamo in the bantamweight division over four rounds.
Furthermore, there’ll be two exciting bouts to affirm women with current SA Junior Lightweight titlist, NomaMpondomise “Lily” Xotyeni, locking horns with PE debutante, Sandiswa Gxogxo, over four rounds. The former amateur star, Nthabiseng Didi of Port Elizabeth, will be facing another PE lass, Portia Base. Motherwell Build It owner, Nkebe, has brought an innovation to boxing, with tickets for the tournament readily available at Computicket at all Shoprite/Checkers Stores. He said, “We have found Computicket at Shoprite/Checkers to be the easier way to help people buy tickets. This also means they can buy tickets now already and don’t have to wait for the last minute.” Tickets cost R60 for adults, R40 for pensioners and R20 for children.

Dynamos take ZAFA Mayoral Cup SELBY MADIKANE ZAKHELE Football Association (ZAFA) cup specialists, Dynamos, won the ZAFA Mayoral Cup finals when they beat NUBS on sudden death – after a goalless draw at fulltime – at the Zwide Stadium on Sunday evening. Both sides had played their semi-finals on Sunday morning and things were difficult for the players, since it seemed fatigue has taken its toll. Nevertheless, Dynamos managed to beat Leeds United 5-4 in the first semi final. NUBS faced the gallant Continental Express in their semi-final clash. However, NUBS beat Express 5-4 on sudden death after a 2-2 fulltime score. NUBS drew first blood when Masonwabe
Ngqulana scored a beautiful goal. Continental Express replied with a goal scored by Mbongeni Pere. Express took the lead when Luthando Ngemntu scored a goal from the penalty spot. It seemed that Express was going to book themselves a place in the finals, but NUBS equalised from a spectacular header which was scored by Ntsapho Bejile, late in the second half. In the finals the game was balanced as both sides worked their socks off. Goalkeepers had to pull brilliant saves, often at point blank range. Dynamos striker Phumlani Mnabisa was tightly marked by NUBS defenders. NUBS skipper, Luyanda Nkewana, delivered perfect passes to his midfielders, while his counterparts were equal to the task.
Highbury Ladies FC are more than ready to take on Sophakama Ladies in SAFA NMB Mayoral Cup finals. With the team is Head Coach Mzwandile Knox Faas.
Highbury or Sophakama favoured to win SAFA NMB Women’s Mayoral Cup trophy SELBY MADIKANE HIGHBURY or Sophakama could win the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Women’s Mayoral Cup trophy, following both teams’ impressive form this season. Both sides played their hearts out at Adcock Stadium on the weekend. In the preliminary round, Highbury edged out Tomorrow Stars 2-0, while Sophakama defeated KUBS 2-0 on Saturday. Zwide All Stars surprised NMMU Madibaz by eliminating them 2-0. Continental Express drubbed Vuku Wanderers 3-0. Nobuhle Ladies thwarted Shooting Stars
9-0, while African Chiefs humiliated PE United 9-2. In the quarter-final, Young Aces gave Sophakama a tough time, despite their 1-0 loss. Highbury earned a well-deserved 2-0 when they played against Continental Express. Zwide All Stars defeated Warriors 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 fulltime draw. Nobuhle Ladies took their neighbours African Chiefs by surprise after they overcame them 2-0. In the first semifinals Highbury defeated Zwide All Stars 5-3 on penalties following their 1-1 fulltime tie. Sophakama secured a convincing 6-0 over Nobuhle Ladies in the second semi-final.

Ama-Units v Zwide Masters ends in draw SELBY MADIKANE
at Myezo Public Primary School on Sunday.
KWAZAKHELE- based side Ama-Units can only blame themselves for drawing 1-1 with Zwide Masters in their SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Masters Football Association game
Ama-Units player, Ndaba Simelela, scored an own-goal to give life to the log leaders, Zwide Masters, in the first half. Zwide Masters lost the lead when Andile Bailey replied
with an equaliser for Ama-Units in the second half. The game was fast-paced and exciting, with both sides playing running soccer. Veeplaas Masters hammered New Brighton Masters 3-0 in a rather one-sided encounter. Abahlobo played to a 3-all draw with PE All Stars. Soweto Masters went down 5-1 to XI Attackers, while Sparks thumped VW Masters 3-0 at Motherwell. Soweto Masters shared a goalless draw with VW Masters in Motherwell. Zwide Winners lost three points to Valencia after they failed to arrive on time for their game in Addo. Valencia beat Mhlaba 1-0, while Winners overcame Addo Masters 2-0. Jomo Brown and Khaya Mpushe scored a goal each for Zwide Winners.
Ama-Units aim at winning the league trophy.
