have names of capable councillors who should be nominated, or, they won’t vote. “We hear that the ANC is giving us Nombiba as a Ward Councillor in the 2016 Local Government Elections. We say, hell no. Not that one. He is being investigated by the Hawks,” said Ntombizodidi Ntshona (64), the Chairperson of Thulamangwane Community Project. The elderly woman claims to have been fired by Nombiba from the project but was reinstated when the case of corruption and the embezzlement of funds within the project was taken to the CCMA. “I am not being investigated. He is the one being investigated by the Hawks,” said gogo Ntshona. “We don’t want a councillor who is under investigation. Nombiba promotes factionalism and does not bring projects to develop local residents but instead, claims the projects belong to the ANC so he has a right to decide who is to benefit from it,” Zwelandile Booi, a resident said. They claim their councillor was not helpful to the community. “Destitute and vulnerable families who couldn’t bury their departed contacted him for help and he couldn’t. We ourselves contacted the municipality and were shocked to learn that our councillor had only to write a letter to ask the municipality to assist through the Assistance to the Poor Programme,” said one resident.

WAZAKHELE, Port Elizabeth residents in eMagaleni area sang and toy toyed on Monday afternoon showing their displeasure with what they believed was the re-election of Ward 20 ANC Councillor Bongo Nombiba.

They accused Nombiba of ineptitude, corruption and putting the name of the ANC in disrepute. They claim to have called on his office for assistance with housing, water and electricity service delivery, without any luck. About 100 residents, including little children, took part in a protest accusing Nombiba of failing to serve the community of Kwazakhele and not being fit for election as their representative. They claim they want the ANC to nominate someone else, and if they do not, they

Raising the flag for Mother Tongue Day

Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Rejoice Mabudafhasi was in Nelson Mandela Bay yesterday for the celebration of International Mother Tongue Day. Before visiting NMMU where she met language practitioners for the observation of the day, MP Mabudafhasi paid a courtesy visit to New Brighton’s 70 year­old Cowan High School where she hoisted the national flag and encouraged pupils to love their country, mother tongue and flag, knowing its colours and their significance.
