Big plans for Greenacres Centre

NE of the oldest shopping centres in Port Elizabeth will have a new modern look and feel after upgrades worth R300 million are implemented.
Greenacres Shopping Centre has traded above national average trading densities and has also maintained a 100% occupancy. This performance, along with the need of major and national tenants to expand their footprint, motivated the new owners from Acucap by Liberty to embark on a mall expansion and upgrade. “The retail environment has changed in the Bay, with developments at Walmer Park and Kenako Mall (in NewBrighton),” said executive director from Acucap, Jonathan Rens. The planned phased expansion will kickstart early in August with phase 1, which includes a vibrant new food court and a range of shops that will appeal to connected people on the go. wards the end of April 2015. The food court will be turned into a multilevel environment with big screens, entertainment and more light. Wimpy will present a new look that has not yet been seen in South Africa; Cassies will showcase their latest look and feel; Steers and Debonairs will flaunt their new combo store look. Offers from other big brands include Asian, chicken and fish options which are currently being assessed. “One of our biggest concerns was the centre becoming overcrowded and this would lead customers to shop somewhere else,” said Rens.
