Outrage after teacher shoots pet

HE Animal Welfare Society has expressed outrage after a teacher shot and killed a fellow teacher’s cat near the hostels on Woodridge College’s school grounds last week.

Jade Hooke (22), formerly from Port Elizabeth and now residing in Gauteng, will return to her hometown to defend her title at the Nissan World Cup Qualifier 2012, which will take place at the Port Elizabeth Riding Club from tomorrow. She won the Lib­ erty World Cup Qualifier 2011 on her horse, Liberty A New Era, in Port Elizabeth. Practising behind her is Anthony Kay and his horse Ebb & Flow Assegai’s Sherman. According to the Society’s facebook page it is alleged that one of the teachers from the school hostel shot the one-year old male cat, Gandalf, believing the cat to be rabid. Gandalf belonged to fellow-teacher Shaun Fitzmaurice. At the time of the shooting the cat wore a collar and a bell. The teacher involved, whose name is known to PE Express, could not be reached for comment and therefore his name is being withheld.
