Metro adresses road safety REPORTER
T
HE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) has prioritised the construction of traffic calming measures across the city.
Since the beginning of the current financial year, the Roads and Transport Directorate has spent R3 million of its R3.5 million budget on the construction of 109 speed humps and raised pedestrian crossings on 58 streets across all wards. According to NMBM Communications and Media Management Officer, Mthubanzi Mniki, the purpose of the speed humps is to improve the experience of road users in the metro and ensure safer roads for cyclists and pedestrians. More importantly, the municipality seeks to create a safer environment for children, particularly in residential areas. Before the implementation of any traffic calming measures, the municipality took into account requests received from residents and sought guidance from Ward Councillors. “In the current financial year, the municipality allocated a budget of R60 000 per ward to meet traffic control and calming needs. The construction of these speed humps costs between R2 000 and R50 000 per speed hump, depending on the area and width of the road,” said Mniki. “Should residents identify a need for traffic calming measures in their area of residence, they should consult their neighbours
in order to reach consensus and write to the NMBM Executive Director of Infrastructure and Engineering. “Once the municipality receives the request, it will check if at least more than 50% of the affected residents are in support of the petition,” Mniki said. The municipality will then assess the road or area before the implementation of any traffic calming or control measures to ensure that the proposed request is in line with the rules and regulations that guide road safety. The municipality will prioritise requests based on whether they are life-threatening, property-threatening or if they just cause an inconvenience to residents. “Traffic calming measures are generally determined by the municipality’s Traffic Calming Policy, but in most cases they take the form of speed humps or raised pedestrian crossings,” Mniki said. In the coming financial year, with a decreased R1 million budget allocated for all wards in the Metro, Councillor Rano Kayser, the portfolio Chairperson of Roads and Infrastructure, intends to place stronger focus on the Northern Areas and townships. “The absence of speed humps, raised pedestrian crossings and other traffic calming measures have proven to be life-threatening, especially given the growing number of pedestrians on the roads and children who play in the streets,” Councillor Kayser said. “I encourage residents to use all roads in the city in a safe and responsible manner for an improved experience for all road users.”

Harambee overcomes these challenges by using sourcing teams that go into townships to sign up candidates and by creating a network for young firsttime work seekers that connects them with employers looking for entry-level staff. They deliver high-quality work readiness programmes that directly address the risks identified by employers in taking on first-time workers. NATIONAL non-profit organisation (NPO) Harambee is on a mission to change the lives of thousands of young South Africans by helping them get work, highlighted by the fact that Youth Month has arrived. Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, which has been around since 2011, recruits candidates that are not reached by existing corporate recruitment networks, assesses their competencies and matches them to jobs where they are most likely to succeed. The challenges that most young, unemployed South Africans face is the lack of funds to look for work and access to networks which traditionally

Winter schools to boost results, build dreams REPORTER NELSON Mandela Metropolitan University’s (NMMU) annual accounting winter schools for Grade 11 and 12 pupils will run from July 10 to 14 this year. The winter schools are about much more than boosting exam results – they are about bringing young people together from all walks of life, and inspiring them to dream. Hundreds of pupils from across the Eastern and Southern Cape have already signed up for this year’s three winter school programmes in Port Elizabeth and George. The deadline to register is June 19. The on-campus winter schools give pupils a taste of university life by following the same academic model used by NMMU’s School of Accounting, where formal lectures are followed by smaller group tutorials which are run by BCom (Accounting) students. There are also motivational talks and mentoring by accounting professionals and past students, as well as talks on funding options for university. “The students receive not only academic aid; many of these pupils come to the winter school simply hoping to pass matric, but they are inspired to dream and to make those dreams a reality,” said tutor Duane Rensburg, who is completing his postgraduate degree in Accounting on the path towards qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. Rensburg, who has tutored at the winter schools for the past three years, said the winter schools have taught him the “true meaning of Ubuntu (as) … pupils from all walks of life come together, from the privileged schools to the least privileged, and engage and assist one another.” This year’s winter schools will also feature the concept of “tutor shadows”, where

first-year NMMU BCom students will shadow a tutor, who will be a second- to fourth-year student, to develop them to be effective tutors next year. “Being a tutor means that for that week, you will be a motivational speaker, a counsellor and even a psychologist. By shadowing, the new tutors will quickly develop these skills,” said Rensburg. One of the shadow tutors, first-year Carmel Chan-Lok, who attended the Grade 11 and 12 winter schools as a pupil, said the schools helped to boost her final exam results by 10 percentage points. This contributed towards her being awarded a prestigious NMMU Vice-Chancellor’s scholarship and gave her a “clearer picture” about what a career in accounting would look like. “My tutor inspired me and helped me so much with more than just accounting and I want to make that same difference in someone else’s life,” she said. Carin Langner, associate director at Deloitte, which has sponsored the Grade 12 winter schools since 2011, said, “The theme for the week is definitely ‘anything is possible’ and we spend the week mentoring learners on how to make their dreams possible. It’s amazing to see the impact this has. “The winter school caters for everyone, whether you’re a top learner (or not) … It’s when you’re out of your comfort zone, surrounded by learners you may have never met before, where the real learning starts. By the end of the week, you have built a network of learners from across the Eastern Cape and established a support base for their final exams.” Ash Rathan, a partner at PwC Port Elizabeth, which has sponsored the Grade 11 winter school since 2012, said, “Many of the learners who attend have never spoken to a career guidance counsellor, or ever engaged with an accountant. They have nev-

It is so much more than just about teaching accounting. It’s a life experience that learners will never forget, regardless of whether they decide to follow a career in accounting or not.” NMMU accounting winter schools coordinator Ansulene Prinsloo said, “The winter schools have become my yearly highlight … It is truly humbling to see the difference one week can make in the lives of so many learners.” ) For more information on the accounting winter schools contact Prinsloo on 041 504 2010 or Sharne Martin on 041 504 2073.

Shoprite to match donations made for Yellow Packet Challenge REPORTER
balala, Tol Ass Mo, Mafa Bavuma, Marc Lottering and Jo-Ann Strauss, have all accepted Shoprite’s #YellowPacketChallenge and are visiting organisations of their choice to donate yellow packets filled with much-needed provisions. “It is incredible what can happen when people come together for a good cause, and we want to show that anyone has the capacity to give back and make a difference in their communities,” said Neil Schreuder, Shoprite’s Marketing Director. The #YellowPacketChallenge is aimed at encouraging people to take hands with Shoprite in order to reach even more people and organisations in need.
SHOPRITE is encouraging South Africans who have a little extra to share this winter to pay it forward by donating grocery bags filled with non-perishable goods to individuals and organisations in need. With its Yellow Packet Challenge, which runs from May 22 until July 9, Shoprite is asking consumers to take hands with the retailer by filling a yellow packet with everyday essentials and giving it to somebody less fortunate. People can share this act of kindness on Shoprite SA’s Facebook page or on Twitter, tagging @Shoprite_SA and using the #YellowPacketChallenge hashtag and nominate a person or business to do the same. Threetime cancer survivor shares her story REPORTER ELEVEN years ago, Port Elizabeth resident Joanne Harlow received news that changed her life forever. At the age of 42, Harlow, a wife and a mother of an 11- and 13-year-old, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Inflammatory Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer). She had chemotherapy before having her left breast removed in July 2006 and after the mastectomy and radiation, she was told she had a life expectancy of three years. “I have never smoked, drank one glass of wine per month on average
and was as fit as a fiddle – what a shocker,” she said. Harlow volunteered for a new drug called Taxotere and qualified for Herceptin. In 2007, she was free of cancer which is when she joined Reach for Recovery as their secretary and fundraising assistant. “I mentioned to my oncologist that my maternal grandmother had passed away of ovarian cancer, so not taking any chances, my ovaries were removed and I dived into menopause at age 43,” she said. Towards the end of 2007, she received her volunteer visiting training with Reach for Recovery.
Then, in April 2008, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and doctors gave her six months to live. Harlow said, “I was bombarded with radiotherapy to my head and that prevented me from being very active within Reach for Recovery for a few months.” In 2009, she became the treasurer for Reach for Recovery in Port Elizabeth, but devastation struck again and Harlow was diagnosed with cancer in a gland this time and had to go back on chemotherapy for four months. Local chess star is making all the right moves REPORTER
Current woman international master Jesse February has been selected to take part in the Commonwealth Chess Championship in New Delhi in July.
MADIBAZ sportswoman of 2016, Jesse February, feels her time in India at the start of this year has adequately prepared her for the Commonwealth Chess Championship that will take place in New Delhi this July. February flew to India in December and toured the country with friends for a month as they competed in a number of tournaments in Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai. “We got a lot of experience there and even though I didn’t do too well, because they are really good at chess, we all came back much stronger,” said the former NMMU accounting

student. February, who has been playing chess since the age of seven, pitted her mental wits against some of the country’s younger players, but found herself struggling to match their skill.
“I found that a 10-year-old there can be even better than some of our top players, which is quite scary. I played about 30 games over there and it gave me an opportunity to improve and work on my mistakes,” said the junior national champion, a title she
won in Johannesburg in April. It was her third consecutive win at the event and qualified her for the Commonwealth champs in New Delhi, world junior champs in Italy in October and African junior champs in Togo in December. In addition to her title in Johannesburg, February also won the Individual Chess Championships in Mauritius last month. The Port Elizabethan explained that chess was similar to other sports in that there were a number of ways one could prepare ahead of a big tournament. “To train we make use of chess books. These are instructive books that detail old games that have been played and include comment from people. They are a good way to
learn from the mistakes that others have made.” However, February said these only helped up to a certain point and that it was important to spend time engaged in the practical aspect. “You can study as much as you want, but if you don’t apply it then you’ll never learn,” she said. The 20-year-old spends between two and four hours a day working towards her goal of achieving the highest honour in chess – that of grandmaster. “At the moment I’m a woman international master and my goal is to go as high as I can. That would be grandmasters. There are many women who are above this point in the world, but not in South Africa.”

Billy’s swansong a gift to community ZELDRÉ STRAUSS SWANEPOEL AFTER ten years of bringing the Northern Arts Festival to the people of the northern areas, founder Billy Paulson is retiring with a final gesture to thank the community for its support over the years.

Paulson said that the organisers of NAF have been under a lot of pressure with many other festivals
that have been sprouting up over recent years. “Last year there were four other
festivals happening on the same day as ours. This has been a challenge, and we have decided that we

Paulson, a popular gospel singer, has been the brain behind the Northern Arts Festival (NAF) which was held at different venues in the northern areas for the past ten years on Heritage Day, September 24. “The festival had an objective to be a platform for local artists and musicians and when I look back at people such as Gino Lee, Chapter Three and Dejavu who have all graced our stages when they were up and coming, I believe we have reached our objectives.” The first NAF was held in the historic Van Der Kemp Kloof and have since been held at various venues including Sanctor and Gelvandale.

We also earn money, so why is it that there are no free-standing banks on our main road? We need to look at developing our area because there is no reason why we still have to travel to Cape Road and such to do business. We need to start our own metropolis in our area.” To thank the community for their support of the NAF, Paulson is hosting a Street Meal Festival in Helenvale on Friday, June 16. “This is also a way of showing the community of the northern areas that they aren’t ignored and that they are cared for.”

Christopher Hutchings said the intention behind the event was to create a healthy and active way for families to spend quality time together. The family-friendly line-up includes a 1km kids’ dash, 6km and 12km social rides and an 18km feature race. The trails start near the fountain outside the Fun Factory entertainment wing entrance (Entrance 4). Registration will take place outside
the ice rink between 4pm and 6pm on Thursday, June 15, and from 7:30am to 8:30am on race day. The event draws to a close with the official prize-giving and lucky draws at noon. Students to host fashion show for Yokhuselo Haven ANIKA DE BEER A GROUP of five BA Media, Communications and Culture students at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) created a fictitious PR firm that is planning to host a fashion show in August in aid of Yokhuselo Haven. Yokhuselo Haven, located in Humewood, has for the last 30 years been providing a safe refuge for women and children in Port Elizabeth who are affected by domestic violence. Megaphone Media, the fictitious PR firm created by Jessica Preston, Jodie Small, Bradley Ford, Zaanri Sharp and Cailin Woods, will host the Purple Liberation Fashion Show in an effort to address the issue and break the cycle of domestic violence. The project is aimed at helping the students put the theory of their studies into practice. The fashion show will take place on August 8, the day before Women’s Day. “The proposed initiative is scheduled for implementation on August 8 in commemoration of Women’s Day and will take the form of an empowering fashion show,” said Sharp, CEO of Megaphone Media. Local designers will showcase their creations in various shades of purple, which is the colour
of support for domestic violence victims, and various local and international celebrities and models will also attend the event. Guests will be urged to wear purple to the event to show their support for the initiative. According to Lindsay Ziehl, manager of Yokhuselo Haven, Port Elizabeth has the highest rate of domestic violence in the country. “We don’t want any more deaths. We want women in terrible situations to come forward for help,” she said. Ziehl added that the principal need of those who are abused is the need to be safe, which is what they aim to provide at Yokhuselo Haven. During the media launch of the initiative, Preston concluded her presentation with a quote by the late Nelson Mandela: “We enter into a covenant that we shall build the society in which all South Africans, both black and white, will be able to walk tall, without any fear in their hearts, assured of their inalienable right to human dignity - a rainbow nation at peace with itself and the world.” The Purple Liberation Fashion Show will take place on August 8 at 6:30pm for 7pm at The Tramways Building. Tickets are R150 per person. All proceeds will go to Yokhuselo Haven. For more info contact Zaanri Sharp on 082 716 5243 or Jessica Preston on 081 582 2336.

PE’s Finest brings Khoisan hero to life on stage
Kunstenaars staan saam vir een van hul eie
REPORTER PE’s Finest Dance Company and The PE Opera House will present The Whirlwind: Dawid Stuurman at The Barn Theatre from tonight. In the dance piece, Dugulth “Junior” Ferreira of PE’s Finest follows the story of iconic Khoisan hero Dawid Stuurman who was born around 1773 in the Gamtoos River area. Stuurman found himself working for a farmer, Johannes Vermaak, but later abandoned his role as farm labourer, formed his own rebel group and fought back against the farmers and those who had stripped his people of their land. He was sent to Robben Island without the benefit of a trial and escaped on numerous occasions. After his third escape, he was banished to Australia. After six years in compulsory government employment, Stuurman was given permission to work for wages for himself. He died on February 22, 1830, in Sydney Australia at the General Hospital. The performance of The Whirlwind: Dawid Stuurman will take place from June 14 to 17 in The Barn Theatre at the PE Opera House. The show will start at 7pm from June 14 to 16, while shows on June 17 will take place at 2pm and 7pm.

Youth Month Tourney kicks off with a bang SELBY MADIKANE SHOWVILLAGE United Brothers’ Youth Month Tournament that has attracted big crowds to Motherwell NU 9 Stadium, started with a big bang on Saturday. Hundreds of fans saw u/13, u/15, u/17 and senior soccer teams taking each other on during their round-robin stages. The toughest game that stole the show was between Real Strikers and Young Romans in the senior division. Strikers claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory with their striker Anele Ngqunge scoring a brace. Romans’ striker Siyanda Doc Sali was nearly rewarded with a goal, but his efforts went wide with Strikers’ goalkeeper beaten. Fondini appointed national HOD SELBY MADIKANE MOTHERWELL’s Sibongile Fondini, one of Nelson Mandela Bay’s top sport administrators, continues to earn more recognition as a sport administrator at national level following his recent appointment as the Basketball South Africa Head of Department (HOD). Fondini will lead the national basketball senior men’s team as an HOD to China during the BRICS Games that will run from June 16 to 22. His passion and involvement in sport started in 1992 with a string of achievements to his name as a Technical Official and Sport Administrator. Fondini’s deep love for sport got him selected as the Best Administrator of the Year in 2015 and as a finalist for the Best Administrator of the Year in 2017 during the Eastern Cape Sport and Recreation Achievers’ Awards. Fondini was elected as General Secretary of the Nelson Mandela Bay Sports Confederation on February 24 this year. He and his executive committe has already done a tremendous job so far in shaping up all the Sports Federations in the Nelson Mandela Bay region. Since his appointment as an HOD to China, Fondini has been lauded by many different structures of sports federations in the Nelson Mandela Bay region. According to Fondini, the participation of
the South African Basketball Men’s Team in the BRICS Games, came just a few months after they had qualified for the Afro Basketball 2017(Africa Championships) that will be held in September 2017. Their trip to China will, therefore, prove quite significant in their preparations for the continental championships.

Gondwe guides Attackers to victory SELBY MADIKANE ELEVEN Attackers forward Ncedisa Gondwe Goniwe guided his side to a hard fought 1-0 victory over their neighbours Sparks Masters in their SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Masters Association League Motherwell derby at Shining Stars Ground on Sunday. Fans braced themselves for a humdinger of a game. They were not disappointed as the game was spectacular from the word go and it was difficult to predict the winner. Sparks’ midfielder Kaizer Quntu made a long range shot, but Attackers’ goalkeeper Mike Soyamba managed to fingertip the ball to concede a corner kick. Following the pressure from Sparks, Attackers’ right winger, Luyolo Jacobs, whipped a perfect cross to Goniwe who slotted the ball into the back of the net, leaving Sparks’ goalkeeper Patrick Rasi well beaten. Attackers went to the break leading the game 1-0. In the second half Sparks came up strongly, but Attackers’ defender, Mpumelelo Gcwememe, kept things tight at the last line of defence. Gcwememe showed his football prowess after heading the ball and nearly crossing their goal line. Soyamba also gave a sterling performance when he blocked Quntu’s close-range shot that might have been a beautiful goal. Sparks’ left back, Mlungisi Jazino Bonga, was one of the best players to watch during the match. In another game, Soweto Masters beat Winners 2-1 in their game at VW Pavilion in Uitenhage. Luyanda Jomo Brown scored Winners’ goal,

Veeplaas Masters succumbed 2-1 to VW Masters. Zandisile Yoyo banged in a goal for Veeplaas, while Gary Williams and Banele Phezisa scored a goal apiece for VW Masters. Zwide Masters suffered their worst defeat to date when they went down 4-0 to Young Pirates at VW Pavilion. University of Fort Hare Tigers beat brave PE Comets SELBY MADIKANE UNIVERSITY of Fort Hare (UFH) Head Coach Paper Mahomana lauded his side after they defeated the gutsy PE Comets 67-63 in their Nelson Mandela Bay Basketball Association League (NMMBA) clash that took place at the Raymond Mhlaba Indoor Sports Complex on Sunday.
The home side supporters thought the game was going to be easy for their side, but the students showed that they were not going to go down easily to Comets. In fact, it was a do-or-die clash as both sides gave it their all. It was clear that the two outfits worked hard for this big showdown. At the end of the game, Head Coach Mahomana commended his team for defeating the
high-riding PE Comets. Coach Mahomana said, “My boys worked very hard. They played as a collective unit. My team knew how PE Comets play. We came up with a new and completely different game plan. My players stayed focused throughout all quarters of the game. I think discipline was the key factor for our success over the gutsy Comets.” In another game, Tigers were awarded a 20-0
score over Uitenhage Kings who failed to pitch up for the game. The Spartans were fired up when they trounced Veterans 71-50, while the defending league champions Gemineyez thrashed Expandables 46-27. New Brighton Knights’ loyal supporters saw their side giving Invaders a severe 66-52 punishment.
Kuyuga Masters maintain lead in PELFA Old Bucks Legends League FRANCOIS ROTHNER AFTER five rounds, Kuyga Masters remain unbeaten in the Port Elizabeth Legends Football Association (PELFA) Old Buck Legends League. Last Wednesday, they took on African Leopards in St Albans in a very close game. They went into half-time all square on nil all. The second half produced some scintillating football where both teams tried to find the back of the net. It was not until the 89th minute of the game that Mzikayise “Vasco” Jacob passed the ball, outdribbled a few defenders and scored, giving Kuyga the bragging rights with a 1-0 win.
In another game, Callies went on the rampage when they outplayed PE City 6-0. Karl Pereira scored twice and Aslam Sydow once to put Callies up 3-0 at half-time. In the second half, Callies put even more pressure on PE City’s defence, which saw Karl Pereira adding another two goals to his tally and Dillon Germshuys netting Callies’ sixth goal. Westpark earned their first point this season when they drew 3-3 with Priory. The game was an intense battle with the lead continuously changing hands. Ten minutes into the first half Arthur ‘China’ Chan King put Westpark in the lead. Three minutes later, Rory Mortimer equalised for Priory, only to see Allan “Bundy’ Konold put Westpark
back in the lead five minutes later. Westpark were up 2-1 when the referee blew for half-time. Approximately eight minutes into the second half Lloyd Croft scored for Priory from a melee in the Westpark penalty area to even the score 2-2. Rory Mortimer’s second goal saw Priory take the lead 3-2. With about seven minutes to go, Warren Brown scored from a corner to end the game 3-3. Old Grey won their first game of the season when they lowered Shamrocks’ colours by winning 3-1. Old Grey’s Julius Jogoo helped himself to a brace with Wayne Blochlinger netting their third late in the second half. Old Grey conceded a penalty late in the second
half which was smartly converted by Shamrocks’ Nadarajen Padachie. Hearts went back onto the winning path when they got the better of NMBM 3-0. Ian Stevenson put Hearts up 1-0 at half-time. Dale Moulton’s pile driver five minutes into the second half saw Hearts take a 2-0 lead. Ian Stevenson scored his second goal with about 17 minutes left in the game. The game was played in very good spirit. Fixtures for tonight, June 14:

DIARY/DAGBOEK
Hamilton strolls, Ferrari struggles AS far as Grand Prix wins go, Lewis Hamilton’s win in Canada appeared no more taxing than a leisurely Sunday afternoon drive. Untroubled, the Mercedes driver, for the sixth time in his F1 career, reached the chequered flag first on the circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Hamilton’s unchallenged run to the chequered flag was set up by an exquisite qualifying lap on Saturday which netted him a 65th career pole position. It was this premium starting position on the grid, and a steady get-away, which ensured that he stayed clear of the mess of the first few turns. Though championship leader Sebastian Vettel started alongside in second he fell victim to Max Verstappen who rocketed off the line from fifth to second. In his charge to the front, the Red Bull driver clipped Vettel’s front-wing prompting the Ferrari driver to pit for a replacement and dropping him to 18th place. The carnage wasn’t only contained to the sharp end of the grid either. Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz triggered a crash that damaged Romain Grosjean’s Haas and ultimately eliminated himself and William’s Felipe Massa from the race – all on lap one. The incident prompted a short safety car period on the first lap. The race resumed with Hamilton able to easily pull away from second-placed Max Verstappen. The Dutchman was running comfortably in second until the Red Bull grinded to a halt with a battery failure on lap eleven. It cleared the way for Bottas in the second Mercedes, but the Finn was unable to keep pace with Hamilton for the majority of the race. Behind, Daniel Ricciardo drove faultlessly to maintain third place ahead of the Force India pair of Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon. While both the Force India cars sat within striking distance of Ricciardo, they were never able to get close enough

to attempt an overtake. By now Ferrari had opted for a different strategy that had both Raikkonen and Vettel on the ultrasoft tyre for the last 30-odd laps of the race. Finally, the Ferraris were able to run at the pace that was initially expected of them as they closed down on the battle for the final podium spot. However, as Raikkonen closed on the back of fifth-placed Ocon he suffered a brake-by-wire issue that cost him six seconds a lap. Ultimately, the Ferrari was nursed home seventh place. Vettel, without such issues, boldly scythed his way past both the Force India drivers to finish an impressive fourth. Ferrari’s pace didn’t simply evaporate into thin air either – more so it was the fact that they were unable to run in clean air, which is indicative of how an F1 car’s true pace and performance can be nullified if it is running in traffic. It’s no secret that all F1 cars are designed to run in clear air and as soon as that air becomes disturbed, by a car in front, the “dirty” air causes too much instability to run as efficiently as possible. This is an issue, which Ross Brawn, as part of the new F1 brain trust, has earmarked in his quest to make F1 more “raceable.” On any other day Force India would’ve been pleased with a double-points finish, but Perez’s ignored called to swop positions with teammate Ocon, who was on significantly fresher tyres, likely cost the team a podium finish. Nevertheless, the pair finished fifth and sixth ahead of an ailing Raikkonen in seventh. Nico Hulkenberg brought his Renault home in a solid eighth ahead of Montrealnative Lance Stroll who scored his first F1 points with a fine ninth-place finish ahead of Haas’ Romain Grosjean in tenth. After the struggles of the Monaco GP, the Canadian GP was a must-win for Hamilton and Mercedes. He now trails championship leader Vettel by twelve points ahead of the Baku GP in two weeks’ time.
