‘INCREASE IN BOOMSLANG ACTIVITY’: DRY CONDITIONS TO BLAME

Influx of snakes in suburbs TANYA VAN ZYL

D

RY conditions and regular veld fires are mainly the reasons why there is a definite increase in snakes invading residential areas. This is according to Mark Marshall, snake expert and owner of Sandula Conservation. In most of the cases he responded to last year, puff adders were the species that invaded homes the most, but now there has been “a changeover of the snake species”, Marshall said. “There is a drastic increase in boomslang activity in residential areas. This is because more birds are now breeding at or close to people’s houses, which in turn attracts the boomslang,” he said. “Because of the dryness of the veld, wild animals are now forced to move into residential areas,” Marshall said. Dr Charles Hayward, veterinarian at the 9th Avenue Veterinary Clinic in Walmer agreed. “It is very dry and because of the

drought, veld fires and a lot of urbanisation taking place, their natural vegetation is becoming limited, so there is an influx of snakes in areas they would not normally be seen in,” Hayward explained.

A puff adder entered a yard in Circular Drive by slithering over a brick wall. PHOTO:MARK MARSHALL Hayward lives on a smallholding and said that they regularly come across snakes at their home, including puff adders, but added that

there has definitely been an increase in the number of boomslang. “Last month we caught two boomslang and three puff adders at our home,” he said. According to Marshall, the reason for the slight decrease in puff adders “is because the number of their prey (rats and mice) have also decreased – again, due to the dryness. But just because they are less does not mean they are not there,” Marshall explained. In March last year the PE Express reported on the high number of puff adders that were caught in residential areas. Marshall caught 13 puff adders, as well as other venomous snakes in just one weekend. Marshall said he responded to around 79 cases of puff adder invasions a month in 2016. “They are still around, but just not as many as last year.” He successfully caught around 30 boomslang since the beginning of January this year, but has had at least 50 calls from homeowners who saw boomslang at their homes.

Metro to clamp down on municipal fleet abuse AS part of cost-cutting and the efficient management of municipal resources, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has taken a decision to clamp down on the misuse of municipal vehicles. The decision was taken during a Mayoral Committee Meeting held on February 22 at the City Hall. Executive Mayor Athol Trollip said there was an unacceptably widespread flagrant abuse of municipal vehicles and this was costing the city a lot of money. “Municipal vehicles are being blatantly used by officials to run private errands such as ferrying their kids to school, grocery shopping and also using our fleet for driving lessons,” Trollip said. In some cases, tracking devices were disconnected, making it hard for the municipality to monitor their whereabouts. The mayor also called on the executive directors to implement a stringent monitoring system as it was costing the municipality a fortune to keep its fleet on the road.

“We also call on the public to assist us in monitoring municipal vehicles and report them if they are seen to be carrying out activities that are not municipal related. “The maintenance and refuelling of our fleet is a costly exercise and this is why we as the Mayoral Committee have taken a decision to closely monitor the use of our vehicles,” he said. He also emphasised the need for customer service centres to be of use to the public for the full duration of the day. “Service to the public is of paramount importance and as such, officials should be at their stations at all times to provide a seamless service to the public,” Mayor Trollip said. Mayoral spokesperson Sibongile Dimbaza added that the municipality guaranteed utmost anonymity to people who report cases relating to the misuse of municipal vehicles. The public can call the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Anti-Fraud and Corruption Hotline 0800 007 086 or send an email to fraud.nmb@kpmg.co.za to report the misuse of municipal vehicles. – REPORTER

Readers have their say IN reaction to the article “Metro takes firm stand on illegal dumping” published in PE Express on February 22, readers had the following comments: )People don’t have transport to take the stuff to the dump. If the council could send a truck around every second month just to collect big stuff? If you don’t, you will have illegal dumping. Council still have to remove it. )Thumbs up to the metro’s action plan on dumping and illegal businesses. A fine alone does not deter a perpetrator as dumping dirt

is by a dirty mindset which lacks remedy. A community service linked i.e. sweep and pick up litter in their residential area for 30 days. Rangers are the way to go. - Vijay Malabar. )Any area that is NOT a dump site should be made illegal. This should be public knowledge and a sign should not have to be erected. We need illegal dumpers to be fined, period! )This is really pathetic. I live in Schauderville and right next to my house people of the neighbourhood dump. Please add sign to the area, create a hotline for reports – good or bad – and display amounts of fines.

is where I saw Sherlock harassing a snake.” The snake moved towards the front of their yard. “The snake was highly agitated – the puffing sounds it was making penetrated to the bone,” Sampson said. His father-in-law eventually killed the snake, while Sampson and his wife Heidi kept their dogs inside the house. That is when they noticed that Sherlock’s face was slightly inflamed. They took him to a vet, who injected

BUT the increase in snake activity in residential areas holds a danger not only for people, but their pets as well. Pet owner Jethro Sampson from Fairview told the PE Express that a puff adder bit one of their Rottweilers, Sherlock, on February 7. “I heard Sherlock barking like I never heard him before. I went upstairs to my daughter Paxton’s room and opened the sliding door and that

him with anti-venom and he made a full recovery. “Obviously when walking in the yard the idea of a snake being there is in the back of my mind, but the dogs are always there, so I feel fairly safe,” he said. Hayward added that snakes are getting ready for hibernation, so there is more snake movement than normal. “We are all part of the same ecosystem, so we have to be cautious,” he warned.

A female boomslang was found in a vegetable garden in Sardinia Bay.

What to do when you find a snake in your home TANYA VAN ZYL MARK Marshall, owner of Sandula Conservation and snake expert, shared some advice on what to do when you find a snake in your home. “This will sound strange and it will probably be the last thing you want to do, but if you see it, trap it in the house!” he said. This way we will know exactly where the snake is to be able to catch it. “Close the windows and the door and put towels down so that it doesn’t escape. If it is the garden it will be more difficult to find,” he said. If the snake is outside, Marshall advises that you take a photo of the snake and also to keep an eye on the snake in order to pinpoint its location. “Don’t try to catch the snake! Rather call me – I’m available 24 hours.” There are no clear signs to know if there is a snake in your yard, Marshall said. “If you hear birds chirping loudly, then it usually is a Cape Cobra or boomslang. Dogs will bark at a high pitch if they see a snake. Snakes are very quiet

creatures.” The times that snakes are mostly active are between 9am and noon and about three hours after the sun goes down, “so try to keep your doors and windows closed at these times,” Marshall added. Contact him at 082 261 9280, sandulaconservation@gmail.com or visit his Facebook page, Sandula Conservation-Mark Marshall.

The PE Express spoke to various veterinary clinics in Port Elizabeth to find out how many snake bites they treated so far this summer.

Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic Dr Tarien Herbst said they treated two dogs, a Jack Russell and a Rottweiler, in the past five months for a snake bite. “The dogs were bitten by the same snake (a puff adder). The big dog unfortunately died, because he was bitten first so the snake injected most of the venom into the Rottweiler,” she said. The Jack Russell made a

Mount Croix Animal Hospital According to Dr Matt Ravensburg they rescued three dogs so far this summer – all of them were bitten by boomslang. “All the dogs survived, even though it was very bad snake bites,” he said. 9th Avenue, Walmer Dr Charles Hayward said they treated one dog, a Jack Russell, towards the end of last year. The dog made a full recovery.

Bethelsdorp gets second police station ROSLYN BAATJIES THE Bethelsdorp community in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is going to get a second police station. The Metro Council decided on February 23 to transfer lot 11823 in Bloemendal to the Department of Public Works to build a police station on it. The police applied for the rezoning and transfer of the piece of land in September 2013. Residents of Port Elizabeth’s northern areas told the Minister of Police, Nathi Nhleko, during his visit to the area in February last year that it is unacceptable that only one police station is serving the large Bethelsdorp area.

Nqaba Bhanga, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Human Settlements, said in October last year that although there is a need for a police station in the area, the construction would have to be monitored closely. “To part with municipal land and then have nothing built on it for twenty years does not help the municipality,” he then said. Bobby Stevenson, DA spokesperson on safety and security, said the fight against gangsterism in the northern areas must be treated as a war and all resources must be utilised for it. “I am going to ask questions in the legislature to the MEC for Safety and Liaison, Weziwe Tikana, about a time frame for the construction of this police station,” he said.

SS Mendi Commemoration cancellation angers Royalty NCEBA DLADLA DISTRAUGHT members of AmaMpondo Royalty regret ever coming to Nelson Mandela Bay last week for the commemoration of the SS Mendi, the ship that sank in February 1917, killing 860 South Africans who were going to the World War II in support of Great Britain. Among the 860 men there were Xhosa, Pondo, Swazi and Basotho men – some of whom couldn’t even swim. “We came here from Eastern Pondoland in the Transkei for the commemoration of what is a very important part of our history as it commemorates men of our land who showed heroism and died in a war that did not even concern them. But the event was cancelled on the eleventh hour due to political interference, said Chief Mlamli Ndamase. Chief Ndamase, together with Prince Lusanda Ndamase and Princess Vuyolwethu Ndamase, travelled all the way from Pondoland for the event on invitation from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). “We arrived late on Thursday and everything, including a gala dinner hosted by Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, went well. But when we arrived at the Memorial Site (at Sheya Kulati Drive) in New Brighton on Friday, we were told that the event was cancelled just after 10am. What a waste of our time!, said Chief Ndamase. The Chief’s great grandfather, Chief Henry Boklein, led a troupe of Pondos to the war and subsequently died with seven of his elder brothers’ sons when the Mendi sank. News 24 reports that the Department of Military Veterans spokesperson, Mbulelo Musi, however, refuted claims of political interference, saying the cancellation had been due

to logistical reasons. “It is extremely unfortunate that it is being said that the event was cancelled due to political reasons, Musi said. Musi said they had informed the municipality that the SANDF troops could not attend the event, due to logistical reasons as the troops were still busy withdrawing from being deployed to Durban for the main SS Mendi commemorations which had taken place earlier in the week. Musi said it was a case of being overly optimistic and underestimating the logistics required around the main event in Durban that had led to the lack of troops at the New Brighton event. “I want to make it clear that no disrespect was intended to any of the families of those heroes who fell with the SS Mendi. Our solidarity is unquestionable, he said.

‘PE Express’ correspondent is EC Journalist of the year finalist ZELDRÉ STRAUSS SWANEPOEL SELBY Madikane has gone from working as a cleaner at a high school, to becoming a muchloved teacher, newspaper correspondent and ultimately a finalist in the Eastern Cape Sports & Recreation Achievers Awards for Journalist of the Year. Madikane started writing for the PE Express Indaba in 2008 as a sports correspondent. “Growing up my life was very hard, but I was still one of the top achievers at school. I eventually had to drop out of school to get a job to support my family financially,” said Madikane.

‘What keeps me motivated is that people show appreciation for what I am doing for them.’ – SELBY MADIKANE

He worked as a cleaner at Otto du Plessis High School in Algoa Park as well as a general labourer for a textile company for two years. “I then I decided to go back to high school. After matric, I pursued studying towards my teaching diploma.” He was appointed at Inkqubela Primary School in KwaZakhele in 1990 and continued studying to also obtain a B Comm degree at Vista University and diplomas in Public Relations Management and Advertising. “I am looking forward to studying B Ed Honours and a Diploma in Journalism and Media Studies in the near future.” Education and sport being his greatest passions, Madikane is also a family man whose biggest support comes from his wife, Florence, daughters Kholi and Sinothando, and son, Bulelani. His love for sport started from when he played soccer and rugby as a young boy. “My late uncle George Gosa Kolisi played for African Bombers RFC. I watched my uncle play rugby. I spent most of my time playing soccer and watching

games of soccer, rugby, cricket, boxing, karate, netball and judo. If I were not a teacher, I would have liked to be a full-time sports reporter for PE Express.” Several setbacks, such as when his laptop was stolen, have never deterred him from producing sport stories for the PE Express every weekend. “What keeps me motivated is that people show appreciation for what I am doing for them.” The Eastern Cape Sport and Recreation Achievers Awards function, which was organised by the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Sports Confederation, was held at the Boardwalk Hotel on Saturday. In the end, the Journalist of the Year award went to BCM cricket journalist, Ross Roche. “This nomination means a lot to me. I did not expect that I would be selected among the top sports writers in the Eastern Cape. PE Express newspaper has given me the opportunity to earn recognition in the province and in other provinces,” said Madikane.

PLAYERS in the SPAR Charity Golf Day survived breezy conditions at Humewood in Port Elizabeth to dig deep into their pockets as the 22nd edition of the event resulted in a bonanza for the beneficiaries. After they had each received a generous amount of R35 000, beneficiary representatives of Love Story, Smile Foundation and Wings and Wishes were left staggered when the SPAR head office in Durban doubled the amount to R70 000 each. The man to make the announcement was group housebrands manager Graham Claassens, the instigator of the golf day initiative more than two decades ago, when he worked in Port Elizabeth. SPAR Eastern Cape managing director Conrad Isaac paid tribute to Claassens, as well as former Eastern Cape MD Bill Brown, both of whom took part in the golf day. Tanya Jackson of the Smile Foundation said they were ecstatic at the generous donation. “SPAR have supported us over a number of years through visiting our Smile Week at the Provincial Hospital and by assisting us at the River Mile,” she said. “This is the first time we have been involved with the golf day and we are very excited about that.” Jackson said the funds would be used to cover the various needs of children with facial conditions – including surgery, transport and consumables – as well as to train surgeons countrywide. Love Story’s Ryan le Roux said the donation “was amazing”. “This sort of contribution helps us to distribute more food parcels and to impact more people,” he said. “We just could not achieve what we do without the support of organisations like SPAR, who do a lot more for us than just this golf day.”

He said Love Story’s primary objective was to make sure the homeless and the needy were fed, supplying around 45 000 meals a month across 20 to 25 soup kitchens in the metro. Wings and Wishes manager Inge Human, whose organisation is based in PE, said the support they had received was incredible. “We never say no to a child who needs critical surgery and, as you can understand, flights can get expensive because we always cater for a child and a parent. “This sort of support just enables us to help more people in need of assistance.” She said they helped about 160 families per month. “It’s tough for non-government agencies out there and this is wonderful support. We are very grateful to SPAR Eastern Cape for this opportunity.”

Atrium Centre, Ring Road, Greenacres (next to Virgin Active) X1TBDRGD-PX010317

The launch, held at their offices in PE last Thursday, was attended by members of the Safety and Security Department, the SAPS and community neighbourhood watches. The centre will help residents with all their enquiries with regards to crime and municipal services in their areas. The 24-hour centre is operational seven days a week. “The launch is a culmination of eight months’ work that we have been doing behind the scenes in the CIC to ensure that we make an impact when we officially launch the initiative,” said ADT Branch Manager Ryan Britz. Britz said the CIC is equipped with the latest technology which will assist them to, among others, quickly trace and recover vehicles reported stolen anywhere in SA. According to Shawn Swiegelaar, a Community Development Manager, neighbourhood watches in Lorraine, Adcockvale, Mount Croix, Pinelands, Kamma Park, Fairview and Glendinningvale were already involved in the initiative. “We’ve had good results in ensuring community safety wherever the project partnership with CIC has

been started. All we need is a concerted effort with other community structures against crime to ensure our communities are safe,” said Swiegelaar. “The service is now available to all the residents of the metro, but 10111 (emergency number) remains the first and best number to dial for any serious crime. For the rest we give assistance while working with the municipality and police,” said Swiegelaar.

According to Britz, the CIC idea was taken from the Western Cape where it was introduced with great success. It has been adapted to fit the circumstances in PE. Safety and Security Member of Mayoral Committee John Best said that the metro would “endorse any initiative by any organisation aimed at fighting crime in Nelson Mandela Bay.” The centre can be contacted at 086 1212 210 or 041 363 5136.

St Dominic’s Priory cricket teams excel REPORTER ST Dominic’s Priory School proudly claimed cricket victory when all the teams emerged undefeated from their matches on Saturday, February 18, against Muir College of Uitenhage and Port Alfred High School. The u/11B team played against Muir College in Uitenhage and batted first, scoring an impressive 217 runs in 35 overs. Brandon Bowers, scored an invaluable, unbeaten 98 runs, ably supported by Rafe Searle, a Grade 4 learner, who chipped in with an unbeaten 45 runs. Muir batted second and was bowled out for 67 runs, giving a 150 run victory. The u/11 A team put Muir into bat first and

made 88 runs all out. Josh Michell, with ball in hand, took 4 wickets for 18 runs. St Dominic’s Priory School comfortably chased this score and made the total with only 1 wicket down, thus winning by 9 wickets. Keagan Robb and Matthew Burton were the “not out” batsmen on 30 and 29 respectively. The u/13 B team, in a match against Muir, bowled first, restricting Muir to 58 runs. Connor Breakspear was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets. St Dominic’s Priory School quickly scored the runs with 5 wickets to spare. The u/13 A team were on their way to victory when the weather forced the game to a stop, causing the match to end in a draw. Batting first, St Dominic’s Priory School

scored a good total of 189 runs. Ethan Roberts was the best at bat, scoring 39 runs before being bowled out. Muir was on 145 for 5 wickets when rain interrupted the game. Luke Perry was the outstanding bowler, taking 3 wickets for 18 runs. The first team boys played at home against Port Alfred High School. St Dominic’s Priory was asked to bat first and was quickly bundled out for 100 runs. Shaquille Hassan was a genius with the ball in hand and rattled the batsmen with a fiery spell of bowling. At one stage, Port Alfred High were 52/2, but thanks to Shaquille, who took 6 wickets for 18 runs, the team bowled them out for 88 runs and won by 12 runs.

NMMU on the hunt for new ViceChancellor, Principal THE NMMU Council announced on February 22 that Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Derrick Swartz has indicated that he will not be seeking renewal of his contract at the end of 2017 as he wishes to pursue other professional and academic interests. According to a media statement issued by the university, its council was made aware of his decision at the start of his second term of office in January 2013. In the coming months, the university will embark on an extensive recruitment and selection drive to look for a suitable VC and Principal for appointment with effect from January 2018.

According to the media statement, Professor Swartz served as VC for two successive and successful terms from January 2007, a role and position that he has held with great distinction. During his terms of office, NMMU scored a number of landmark achievements that took the university well beyond the challenges associated with the ‘merger’ years. Under his leadership, NMMU launched more than 15 cutting-edge centres and institutes aimed at discovery, application and innovation in the natural and human sciences. “We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for his years of dedicated service

and singular commitment to ensuring NMMU grows to significant heights. It is our hope that the intellect, knowledge and skills of Professor Swartz would not be lost to the city and region,” said Judge Ronnie Pillay, NMMU’s Chair of Council. “Furthermore, the council wishes to salute the Vice-Chancellor’s phenomenal strategic fundraising campaign that has raised well over R2 billion over the last decade. This new funding paved the way for the most far-reaching capital expansion in property, plant and intellectual capital since the original creation of the university.”

Examples of these, to name a few, include three new Libraries, one Science Complex, a new Business School, two Engineering Buildings, one new Education Complex, a Biokinetics Complex, an Atomic High Resolution Centre and three large Lecture Hall Complexes in Port Elizabeth and George. “The council also wishes to pay tribute to his personal fundraising campaigns, climbing mountains in Peru and Japan to raise money for needy students. These efforts have certainly set the bar high for the next university leader,” the statement read. – REPORTER

Hy dig al ses jaar lank, sedert hy in gr. 10 by

die Hoërskool Brandwag in Uitenhage sy liefde daarvoor ontdek het. “In daardie jaar het ek geleer dat die liefde nie altyd werk soos jy verwag nie en met digkuns kon ek uiting aan dié gevoelens gee. Sedertdien skryf ek oor die mense in my lewe wat my inspireer.”

“Daarna wil ek dalk nog ’n bundel uitreik,

Muir College to hold 55th reunion event REPORTER MUIR College’s class of 1962, also known as the Muir 62ers, will be meeting up again 55 years after matriculating during a three-day reunion event that will take place from March 9 to 11. Muir College in Uitenhage is the oldest English-speaking boys’ high school in South Africa and can trace its origin back to 1822, which makes the school 195 years old this year. The original class of 1962 consisted of only 44 boys. However, at their 50th reunion in 2012, 87 people attended which included 31 Muir 62ers, some of their partners, several other learners who also attended the school during that time and five teachers. This year, they are aiming for a total

of 56 possible attendees. On Thursday, March 9, a Getting to Know You event will take place from 12pm to 4pm at The Southender in Webber Street, Port Elizabeth, where the 62ers will catch up with each other once more. On Friday, March 10, a Founders Day Service will take place at 10.30am at Muir College in Uitenhage, after which the 62ers will have lunch at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club from 12.30pm. Finally, on Saturday, March 11, a dinner will take place at 6.30pm at Muir College. All those attending are expected to wear their Muir blazer or a jacket and tie. Friends of the school are welcome to join in the festivities. For more info on the event, contact Dog Owen on 082 324 5338 or Neville Ross on 083 611 7781.

THIS SPORTING LIFE: MICHAEL SHAFTO

Looking here, there and everywhere THEY are going to have to go somewhat yet before Southern Kings can call themselves dinkum royalty in the Southern Hemisphere Super Rugby competition. But at least the PE team, at home to South America’s Jaguares, trailing 12-19 at the break, looked at that stage as though they might still make a go of it. But then they let it slip, badly. It was then that the South American visitors took charge, putting their combined feet on the gas to surge to a 39-12 lead, adding two more tries to two earlier crossings of the Kings’ line in the first half. It looked at that stage, with half of the second stanza still to go, that the Kings seemed pretty much dead and buried. Yet, in a late second-half surge, showing the sort of form they are capable of, the Kings produced two thrilling tries – the last of which by the robust Vulindla, came in the game’s very last minute. Both conversions came from the accurate boot of Lionel Cronje, even as the echo of the match-ending hooter continued to wail in the late afternoon air. Earlier in the day in Brisbane, some fine goalkicking by Sharks captain, Pat Lambie, just failed to get the South Africans home when his last goalkicking attempt failed to mount the crossbar in their clash with the Australian Reds to leave the KZN visitors gnashing their teeth over a 26-28 defeat. The weekend’s two best matches, by far, went to humdingers in Bloemfontein with the Lions squeezing to a 28-25 victory over the Cheetahs, and at Newlands where, just as it seemed the Stormers might cruise to an easy victory, a fightback by Pretoria’s Bulls at Loftus Versfeld gave the match an air of respectability at 37-24

– and easily the match of the weekend. Turning to cricket: after a surprising recent hit-back by New Zealand’s Black Caps against the Proteas to level the current ODI series at one-a-piece, the South Africans hit back smartly at the weekend at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington to go 2-1 up with still two matches to play. Captain AB de Villiers, delighted with his own form – 85 (7x4, 1x6) – poured praise on his Proteas after their smooth glide to victory with 271 for six after winning the toss and electing to bat. His personal score came off just 85 balls. It was a fine day for Du Plessis. In reply, the Kiwis were always on the backfoot, managing only 112 all out. After the Proteas’ defeat in the second ODI that had levelled the scores at 1-1, it seemed the South Africans might again find themselves on the back foot. But the Kiwis were never really in the game. In a fine performance by the captain, De Villiers went to 9 000 ODI runs in 23 innings, beating the the previous record held by Sourav Ganguly. De Villiers admitted to being “very nervous, and in fear of getting out early. It’s just human,” he added. “We started losing a few wickets and I thought we were looking at 160 or 180 – which I felt might not be enough.” The captain added that it looked for a while – despite another fine knock by Quinton de Kock (68) – that “the Proteas had lost their way”. But De Villiers himself with Wayne Parnell (35) steadied the ship. “The batting of Parnell added to his valuable two wickets for just 33 runs and finally Pretorius’ incredible three wickets for exactly five runs did the trick! It really was a great team effort.”

My name is Reuben, am 48 years old, I stay with my 2 daughters and 2 sons, for a very long time there was no happiness in my life, even my wife left me because I couldn't support my own family. I had to look after my parents, my farther 79 and my mother 76. I was the only breadwinner in our family and I was working as care giver. I struggled financially my kids needed school uniforms, my parents needed help with basic needs as they are elderly. I visited different pastors, prophets and traditional healers but no one could help me. I wasted all the money, but no results, I just kept losing the little I had. I was helpless for many years, until I read a testimony of Gabriel who was testifying the good work Prof Hope did to change his life by using Short boys to put money into his account IN JUST 30min. I made an appointment with him as he explained to me all the options like money rats to put money in the house on same day, short boys to put money in your Account on same day, magic ring to win money games like gambling, casino, lotto and betting. Magic wallet to multiply your money. I chose money rats to put money in my house. He explained to me the process, I couldn't believe when I received the money on the same day. I immediately contacted him and paid him 25% and my sister chose magic ring for lotto and we are financially stable, all thanks to Prof Hope. He also helps with: bring back lost lover, family matters, bring back stolen goods, bind your property, male enlargement. He also treats over the phone and delivers nationwide plus home visits AROUND Eastern Cape.

I couldn’t even manage to put bread on the table, my children were extremely uncontrolable as I wasn’t able to take care of them. I visited Obed and Noor and they charged me R100 consultation. TALKING F1: NATALIE LE CLUE

F1 2017 cars revealed A MERE seven days ago, the new look of F1 2017 was confined to teaser pics, mock-ups and overexcited speculation. Since then, it’s been Formula 1 sensory overload as all ten F1 teams revealed their 2017 challengers. The Sauber F1 team was the first to launch its C36 in dashing new livery of blue and gold. Renault followed suit on Tuesday and revealed an aggressive looking black and yellow livery for the R.S. 17 to be driven by Jolyon Palmer and Nico Hulkenberg. Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul reported a solid upgrade in the engine department, which he hopes will push the team up the grid. Next out of the gate was Force India with a rather unappealing VJM10. By looking at the car, it’s almost as if the designers of it attempted to incorporate aero parts from seasons gone by. It starts at the front with a 2012-esque stepnose and stretches to a sharkfin engine cover first seen in 2008. Mind you, several other teams have also incorporated a version of the sharkfin cover. Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Toto Wolff were on hand to reveal Mercedes’ W08 at a blustery Silverstone on Thursday. Immediately noticeable is the streamlined sharkfin engine cover. It is believed, however, that the team will

run a larger version of the cover at official testing. The nose of the car appears more rounded than its 2016 predecessor. What’s more, Mercedes are already rumoured to have made an “unprecedented” step forward with its power unit. Ferrari was the first team to launch on Friday. On hand to reveal the SF70-H were team principal Maurizio Arrivabene, chief technical officer Mattia Binotto, and race drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel. From the brief view of the car during the live-streamed launch, it appears as if Ferrari has opted to, initially, run with a type of thinner winglet directly ahead of the main rear wing. In addition, the Ferrari’s nose is also sporting a stub-nose design and a prevalent sharkfin. The design of the sidepod air-intakes are as sleek as you’re likely to see on the grid. Later on Friday, McLaren launched its MCL32 with all-new orange and black livery which they’d teased online for weeks. While some gave the thumbs-up to the orange-dominated McLaren, it immediately drew comparisons to the 2002 livery of the Arrows teams. Nevertheless, chief executive Zak Brown praised the team for producing the new car and predicted that the 2017

Victory Raceway kicks off Regional Champs

Honda engine would start the season on par with Mercedes’ 2016 engine. While Saturday was reserved for Williams’ official unveiling, the cat had been let out of the bag with the rendering released a week earlier. No less than three teams launched on Sunday with Red Bull first out of the gate with their RB13. The 2017 car has retained, mostly, the same livery as in 2016 with a subtle addition of a bit more red. So, as not to reveal too much of their AdrianNewey-designed car, only one angle of the car was revealed in a short prerecorded video. While the details of the Red Bull may not yet be known, they are the team most likely to take the fight to Merc in 2017. The Haas F1 team was the penultimate car launched with predominantly grey livery. The American team has produced a clean design ahead of what will be their second season in the sport. Arguably, the most striking livery of the 2017 season was saved for last. Toro Rosso’s STR12 new blue and chrome livery was unanimously praised online. While the team has switched back to Renault-power, technical director James Key says that in his twenty-year career the 2017 rules have delivered the biggest chassis change he’s ever seen. Official testing starts on the 27th of February in Spain.

Venter, De Jager win maiden River Mile titles REPORTER TEENAGERS Ian Venter and Amica de Jager capitalised on good swimming conditions to record their maiden wins in the River Mile feature events at the SPAR Summer Festival in the resort town of Cannonville just outside Port Elizabeth on February 26. Pearson scholar Venter (Aquabear) and Woodridge College’s De Jager (Liquid Lines) made amends for previous disappointments in the historic open-water event, which was celebrating its 93rd anniversary this year. Venter was pipped at the post by Daniel Jones last year, but this time he made no mistake and built up a lead in the second half of the race to emerge first from the water. He was followed by close rival and Aquabear teammate Nicolas Adams, with Cullen Biddulph (Infinity Swim) in third place. De Jager, runner-up for the past two years, was in a class of her own as she created a gap of 10 metres over Kirsten Marriott (Bay Eagle Swim) with about 250 metres to go and held that

until the end. Payton Horton (Team Watersmart) emerged from a bunch finish to take third place on the podium. After coming so close last year, the 17-yearold Venter said he was overjoyed at nailing down the victory. “I really wanted to get this win,” he said. “It’s an awesome event with a lot of history and it is one of the few local swims I hadn’t won. So getting it for the first time is very cool.” Venter said he took it fairly cautiously in the first half after having driven back from Cape Town the previous night where he swam in the national Grand Prix Series on Saturday. “I wasn’t sure how I would feel, so for the first half of the race I just sat back a bit and let some of the other guys do the work. “At the halfway mark I felt good and I managed to pull away to create a bit of a gap.” Venter said he felt fairly comfortable, especially compared to last year when Jones edged him on the line. “I checked every now and then on the gap and just made sure I kept my distance.”

Both Venter and De Jager said the conditions were good for swimming. Although there was a slight wind into them, they said swimming with the tide made it relatively comfortable. De Jager was overjoyed with her swim, although she said she was on edge until the finish. “I’m very, very happy to have won the gold medal,” said the 17-year-old matric pupil. “It was a tough swim and I had to work really hard, but I did enjoy it.” De Jager said her plan was to go out strongly to try to build a lead. She achieved this by taking the telling lead over Marriott. “I was always on edge because I never knew exactly how far ahead I was. After breaking away at the start, I just knew I had to keep pushing strongly until the end.” Having identified the SPAR River Mile as one of her goals for the season, De Jager said she was chuffed to have ticked it off her list. “I really wanted to win it this year and there is definitely a sense of achievement. It just shows that if you get knocked down, you just have to carry on until you get it right.”

Madibaz maintain top position in SAFA NMB SAB League SELBY MADIKANE NMMU Madibaz kept their chances of winning the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League alive, when they overcame Mabayibone Strikers 2-1 at NMMU’s Second Avenue Campus Grounds on Saturday. Madibaz had been leading the pack since the start of the season. Last week, Strikers, who are rookies in the league, lost 1-0 to Hearts FC in a highly contested game, while Madibaz played to an away 1-1 draw against Despatch Pioneers at Khayamnandi Field in Despatch.

In other matches in the league, Young Cosmos crashed to a 2-0 home defeat to Despatch Pioneers at Walmer Community Field. Royal Bucks’ home supporters saw their side go down 2-1 to Highland Spurs at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium. Central Acemates drew 2-2 with Camper, while Motherwell Academy hammered Fairview Rovers 3-1 at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium. Hearts played to a 3-3 draw against the gutsy Golden Aces at Saints Grounds on Saturday. Island City thumped Showvillage United 3-0 at the Jubilee Grounds in Uitenhage.

PE Sundowns continued where they left off last week after they secured a well-deserved 3-0 win over Ikamva Movers at New Brighton Oval Stadium. Camper United accumulated three points in their 2-0 triumph over Despatch Pioneers at Khayamnandi Field on Sunday. Highland Spurs supporters were disenchanted after their side lost their home game 2-1 to Fairview Rovers at Jabavu Stadium in KwaNobuhle on Sunday as well. Ikamva Movers restored their dignity after they had secured a 1-1 home draw in their game against Golden Aces at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
