VIATION enthusiasts should fasten their seat belts as the runway is cleared for the Bay’s most spectacular air show to date.
The multi-award winning Port Elizabeth Air Show, in aid of the MTR Smit Children’s Haven, which takes to the sky on October 25, is now set to become an annual highlight on the metro’s event calendar.
This, the only air show in the country in aid of a charity, has alternated annually between Port Elizabeth and East London, spanning almost two decades. According to Dr Crystal Watson, who heads up MTR Smit, they are delighted that the event is now coming home to PE permanently. “The air show attracts people from around the country and creates a welcome financial injection for PE tourism and related industries.

“We want to develop this brand into PE’s flagship event, to the benefit of everyone in the metro.” In order to secure safety, ease of access and more space, this year’s ground activities will take place at the opposite side (Forest Hill) of the main airport buildings, where the South African Air Force Museum will act as the hub to a jam-packed aviation and entertainment programme.

And the Walmer Park Baby winners are . . . The winners for this year’s Walmer Park Baby of the Year competition were announced this past Saturday at the centre. The winners in each of the categories are, from left, Tannah Nicou (06 months), Olivia van der Walt (712 months) and Skye Ambraal (1318 months). The runnersup were: 06 months – Amy Rayners (second runnerup) and Jean Lemue (first runnerup); 712 months – Kylie Skye Everard (second runnerup) and Ruben van der Heever (first runnerup); 1318 months – Blake Levi Gomes (second runnerup) and Liam Cunning ham (first runnerup). More than 780 entries were received for this year’s competition and the judging process was exceptionally difficult this year as there were so many cute and beautiful entrants.
