Stars come out in Bay for African Oscars

HE red carpet will be rolled out at the Boardwalk this weekend as movie stars and journalists from all over the world converge for the prestige African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) which is known as the African Oscars. According to Michelle Campbell from Michelle Campbell publicity, over 40 interna-
tional journalists are flying in to Nelson Mandela Bay this weekend to watch 184 nominees from Africa, Europe, South America and other parts of the world at the awards which take place at the Boardwalk International Conference Centre on Saturday evening. AMAA is more than just about the awards, as it’s the biggest gathering of filmmakers across the African continent, and the rest of the world. “Facebook, a media partner of the event, will be live streaming the evening to millions
of Facebook users around the globe. Thus far, media coverage for the AMAA has reached over 400 million people globally. What’s more, AMAA has brought R10 million into the city having local businesses benefiting particularly well,” said Campbell. In addition, Nelson Mandela Bay is set to play host for the next five years to the awards which celebrates the best in the continent’s film industry. The African Movie Academy Awards, now going into its 11th year, honours the men and
women producing more movies a year than Hollywood. The academy awards has 53 countries participating annually, and sees between 500 and 700 international film stars from Africa, Europe and other continents attending the affair. The 50 nominees across the 10 categories will attend, as well as the judges and invited guests from across the globe. Continued on page 4
Veteraanmotors gaan pronk in Erfenistydren Die OosKaapse veteraanmotorvereniging vier vanjaar Erfenisdag met ’n tydren wat die kollig op voertuie van 100 jaar en ouer laat val. Jonker Fourie (links), hoof van die OosKaapse toerismeorganisasie Ectour, Riaan Hanekom (middel), wat die Erfenistyd ren reël, en Hein van Zyl, wat saam met Hanekom aan die tydren gaan deelneem, is hier afgeneem by ’n 1928 Chevrolet Shooting Brake, een van minstens 13 veteraanmotors wat aan die tydren gaan deelneem. Die Erfenistydren, die eerste van sy soort in die streek, begin more in Port Elizabeth en sal by Jeffreysbaai, Stormsrivier en Kaap St. Francis aandoen. Die roete dek ’n afstand van 400 km.
