Tramways boosts Baakens

REPORTER

T

HE revamped Tramways building in Port Elizabeth has proved to be a major catalyst to economic development and has livened up the Baakens

Valley. The R40 million investment in the rejuvenation and redevelopment by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) has hosted more than 40 000 visitors and close to 100

events attended by numerous people in just one year since opening its doors. “There is a lot of demand out there for big venues and this building provides a unique advantage whereby the client can create their own masterpiece with the open space. A lot

of people have been disappointed that most of the dates are already booked from last year and we are busy with 2018 booking already,” said Luvuyo Bangazi, MBDA spokesperson.

REPORTER AT its meeting on March 30, the National Energy Regulator (NERSA) approved that Port Elizabeth Solar PV1 (Pty) Ltd be issued with a licence to operate a 5MW generation solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ). The generated electricity will be sold to a renewable energy trader, PowerX (Pty) Ltd (‘PowerX’). PowerX has a trading licence issued by NERSA for trading in green energy within South Africa. NERSA neither received objections after Port Elizabeth Solar PV1 (Pty) Ltd advertised its application for a generation licence, nor after NERSA published notices for public hearings.

MORE than two million students studying at South Africa’s public Universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges have been funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) since 2013, the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande, has announced. The total number of students who were supported by the government each year at universities were as follows: . 2013 – 194 923 . 2014 – 186 150 . 2015 – 178 961 . 2016 – 244 488 TVET College beneficiaries were allocated as follows: . 2013 – 220 978 . 2014 – 228 642 . 2015 – 235 988

. 2016 – 225 864 In addition, 194 353 university students have so far been supported in the 2017 academic year, where 78 413 cover first time entrances and 115 940 for returning students. It is also envisaged that College funding decisions for the current academic year will be concluded at the end of this month (April 2017) – where 123 332 students already received support. “It is important to note that these figures will increase after the conclusion of all pending funding decisions. In this regard, NSFAS has employed additional resources to expedite the process,” Nzimande said. He restated the government’s commitment to finding the resources to support the children of all poor, working class and middle class families in their quest to better their lives and those of their families through skills acquisition.

SANRAL announces investment in local road network REPORTER THE South African National Roads Agency (SOC) Ltd (SANRAL) recently announced road infrastructure development programmes with a total investment value of R1.6 billion for the national road network in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) and the Sarah Baartman District Municipality. SANRAL will break ground for six new construction, maintenance and upgrading projects in its new 2017/18 financial book year, according to Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL Southern Region Manager. Three of the projects will improve the quality of the R75 and N2 for Uitenhage, Joe Slovo and Colchester. The announcement was made on April 19 at one of SANRAL’s several annual consultation and engagement briefings with municipalities in the Eastern Cape. SANRAL engaged the mayoral portfolio committee members of Nelson Mandela

Bay Municipality (NMBM) on cooperation requirements from the NMBM in relation to traffic control and municipal approval of rezoning or subdivision of land adjacent to national road networks, among other things. “The forthcoming projects will not only advance road safety but also deliver a world-class national road network to the province,” Peterson said. “Along with the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission’s strategic integrated N2 Wild Coast Toll Road project, investment in the national road network in the Eastern Cape is poised to steer the region into a golden era of prosperity through mobility. “A safer and effective road network is key to enhancing foreign and domestic direct investment, socioeconomic growth and development as well as government service delivery.” Petersen indicated that SANRAL will set SMME contract participation goals and community training programmes in forth-

coming tender calls to ensure utilisation, maximisation and development of SMME’s. The forthcoming national road network projects to be launched by SANRAL in NMBM later this year will include: . N2: The construction of the Colchester Interchange (including bridges, pedestrian bridges and walkways) over 18 months is scheduled to commence in October 2017. . R75: A 10-month resurfacing of the Uitenhage off-ramp to Graaff-Reinet Road will include repairing failures, rejuvenating old seals, asphalt overlay, as well as road marking, sign and guardrails will commence in November 2017. . R75: An 18-month rehabilitation of the dual carriageway from N2 to Joe Slovo will include rework of the in situ base, installation of subsurface drains and catch water drains, erosion protection works, as well as road marking, signs and guardrails is scheduled to commence in 2017. “SANRAL remains deeply committed to

designing, delivering and maintaining a world class road network in the Eastern Cape. “Importantly, we are committed to a responsible form of development which factors enterprise and skills development into the equation. “In the 2016/2017 financial year, SANRAL spent R3.56 billion on contracts with SMMEs, of which R1.9 billion was earned by 1 004 black-owned enterprises. We trained 4 120 people, including 1 531 women, in roadbuilding and other skills through 6 237 courses at an investment of approximately R12.9 million,” Peterson said. In the agency’s 2016/17 financial year, SANRAL said it delivered infrastructure projects to the value of around R300 million in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. These included the R80 million slope stabilisation engineering project of the R75 on-ramp into Uitenhage, and the R198 million roadworks project of the N2, Section 11, from the Bramlin Interchange to Coega.

The signing of the MOU is the culmination of a yearlong engagement between the University, the iKDT and the Cala schools, during which various challenges were identified and possible solutions mapped. The partnership, which is a long-term one aimed at adequately capacitating and improving conditions at rural schools with a broader objective of diversifying the University’s feeder schools, will lend support to teachers and pupils of schools in the Chris Hani District Municipality as well as their immediate communities. The project started with an initial 10 high schools and their feeder primary schools and will ultimately be rolled out to all schools in the district and beyond. Having identified a multitude of community and school-specific challenges that include poverty, lack of adequate infrastructure and a lack of exposure due to geographical location, an interdisciplinary team from the University has gone into the area in a bid to map out possible solutions to address the problems. Speaking at the memorandum signing at the University on Friday, iKDT founder Dr Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela said the project was about education and development, targeted at improving the lives of about 5 000 pupils in Cala and its surrounding areas in the initial phase. “We started with 10 schools within the Chris Hani District Municipality, with the hope of expanding to all schools in the district,” she said. “Because we are a national project, we are going to go to other rural areas around the country that have the same challenges.” Msengana-Ndlela spoke about how, in post-apartheid South Africa, the education system had “a dual character of privilege and poverty.” “Teachers and learners from these areas are left to fend for themselves in a vicious cycle of generational poverty. This is a cycle that they intend to break with the support of partner organisations such as NMMU and responsible corporate citizens, whose resolve is to sup-

port government to invest in human capital development and to participate in the restoration of communities and contribute to a better world,” she said. To support the initiative, NMMU has thus far involved its Education and Engineering, the Built Environment and Information Technology (EBEIT) and Science Faculties, as well as Admissions, Student Counselling and Career Development, Unako Community-based Movement and Communication and Stakeholder Liaison through various interventions. The Education Faculty is lending support to Foundation Phase teaching as well as envisaging and working towards the ideal school through the Centre for Community Schools, while the EBEIT Faculty will assist with the establishment of a community ICT Centre to train and empower teachers and community members as well emphasise the value of having ICT facilities at schools. The Science Faculty’s Govan Mbeki Mathematics Development Unit (GMMDU) will assist with maths and science education through the use of modern technologies and Communication and Stakeholder Liaison – under which student recruitment falls – to help with the provision of career and study choice information through annual exhibitions.

Tramways boosts Baakens Continued from page 1 THE shell of the double-volume building had been retained with brick and timber windows in place of steel to honour the once working bus shed with modern materials. The exterior of the building, particularly on the Baakens Street and Lower Valley Road side, was restored to its original design. The exhibition hall boasts a 1 000 square metre floor space, the foyer area offers almost 200 square metres, there is a 16-seater boardroom and the latest addition is a new left wing which is about 300 square meters. The spaces cater for conferences, exhibitions, food markets, night markets, craft shows, music events, cocktails events, product and service launches, among others. Traders at the Tramways agree that the venue has added value to their investment. Grant Foong, the owner of Foong’s, said, “As a small caterer trading during the Valley Market at the Tramways has given us a platform to show off what we can do. The venue itself provides a more professional environment and gives credibility to traders operating from there.” Freddy of Frederick and Son, a gourmet boerie stand, said the Tramways building has “definitely added value to our initiative. “It is a showcase building that represents what is happening in the valley - the repurposing of the old for the use and enjoyment of our community. With our involvement in the Valley Market and the Good Night Market every month, we have enjoyed the building and witnessing the public making use of something that has been given new life. “This building sets the tone for our valley and creates interest in what is happening here.” Bangazi added, “We have hosted many memorable and dynamic events like the Singles Soiree in March, NMB Fashion Week in October, Mainstream Crew Car Show and Markfees. “We also had The VW Naledi Awards with directors from all over the country, Pam

Golding had their Golden Club Awards here, as part of the NMB Summer Season programme 2016 we hosted Vusi Nova in December, Zemvelo Hair and Beauty Festival celebrating black natural hair, among others.” The monthly Valley Market started hosting its events in the building a year ago. The Valley Markets are held every first Saturday of the month, the Goodnight Market takes place every third Thursday of the month, Katoshan Karate frequently uses the venue for training sessions and karate competitions are held there regularly. “What is most exciting for us is the catalytic nature of this investment which has led to a number of property upgrades in the valley, new eatery and lifestyle establishments, youth skills development initiatives, and new and unique events ranging from food truck to motoring festivals. We also know that the valley has not yet reached its potential yet and we’re excited at what the future holds,” concluded Bangazi. The current tenants at the Tramways building include the MBDA and The Wilderness Foundation Africa, who runs a development school in the hospitality industry for youth. Upcoming events include: . Kitibella Shoe Launch Party on April 26 . I Love PE Wine Show on May 12 and 13 . Marktfees in September . East Cape Championships for CrossFit and fitness facilities in September . The NMB Fashion week in October.

Eers toe ’n vriend langs my opspring, het ek besef dit is my liedjie.” Hy was so deurmekaar dat hy skoon vergeet het wat hy wou sê, lag hy. “Nou weet ek hoekom mense toesprake neerskryf. Ek wou my suster Rochelle, wat my bestuurder is, en die res van die span bedank, maar moes dit later voor my optrede doen. “Die boodskap wat ek eintlik wou deel – en wat ek nou wil deurgee – is dat ons mense eerder vir toekennings soos dié moet reik as

vir messe of vuurwapens.” Dit is juis Early B se plan, want hy wil nou ander toekennings by sy Ghoema voeg. “Ek kom nie terug met die toekenning en ’n groot kop nie. Dis nou terug na die tekenbord. Ek wil aanhou doen wat ek doen en streef om dit selfs beter te doen.”

CAPE TOWN PSYCHIC VISITS PORT ELIZABETH

PIETER BEZUIDENHOUT, internationally known psychic and metaphysical guru, will be visiting th Port Elizabeth for the 35 time since 2002. Who is Pieter Bezuidenhout? Brought up in the Christian faith, he affirms the basic common humanity of all people and recognises no differences of colour or creed. Becoming a professional psychic changed his life thirty years ago when he became acutely aware of his psychic abilities which he had only partly experienced before. His practice is in Cape Town, but he is in touch with people from all over South Africa and beyond who need his services through the electronic means of e-mail and telephonic readings. Bezuidenhout regularly attends meetings and provides information guidance at the Centre of Spiritual Philosophy in Sea Point, Cape Town, where his public performances have consistently

been surprisingly accurate. He does not use black magic. In fact, he distances himself from such practices and he does not need tarot cards, crystal balls or teacups to guide or assist him. He knows the problems and concerns of those who consult with him as if by magic, but it is his unique talent to get onto the same psychic wavelength as those who visit him, that enables him to do this. He is a born psychic and asks no questions; he simply knows and by 'reading' the magnetic field around an individual he is able to clearly see the circumstances of the person's life and where it is going. He practises psychometry, which is done by direct contact with physical objects, for example watches, rings and articles of clothing. He 'reads' photographs and picks up the vibrations of people on photographs to clarify relationship issues with people who consult him. His insights and observations are always uncannily correct. He sees the truth. Despite the wishes and emotional involvement of the people who come to see him, he often 'sees' that some problems could lead to harm and loss if those seeking help want their often unreasonable and selfish wishes fulfilled. When psychically aware of this, he warns his clients against it. He tells it like it is. Pieter Bezuidenhout does not tell people what they want to hear; he tells them what they need to hear. As he applies his phenomenal psychic abilities to cast light on the lives of people, he is generally known as someone who does not fear to interpret tactfully and accurately what he observes in the aura (energy field). He helps people to gain cool headed perspectives about decisions around their lives and relationships. He becomes aware of problems and sees solutions as doors that can open, possibilities for success. He sees the hidden potential in people that they might not be aware of themselves. He offers insight and advice regarding all aspects of life and often reveals new career choices, changes and new opportunities that his clients might not have considered themselves. He can communicate with those who died. At times he spontaneously becomes aware of those who have passed on as sources of energy no longer in human form close to those seeking contact. Messages often bring peace and closure! What people say about Pieter Bezuidenhout. His credibility as an accurate, reliable, honest and much respected clairvoyant is continuously tested, and the results are overwhelmingly found to be accurate. • Sylvia Katz of the Centre of Spiritual Philosophy says: Pieter Bezuidenhout has been known to give accurate prophecies and his style is most suitable for those who need comfort. • Advocate Charles Simon of the Cape Bar writes: [At my first encounter with] Pieter Bezuidenhout he could exactly pinpoint the origin of my problem and during his calm counselling as it were it became clear to me that I was panicking unnecessarily. The result: everything turned out exactly as predicted…Over the years I have referred many people to him. Everyone speaks highly of him and regards him as a life strategist of note. • Counsellor Judith Bekker of Middelburg in Mpumalanga claims: Pieter is always spot on… He is not only the postman bringing good news… he focuses on the truth. • Dr Kobus du Toit of Somerset West in the Western Cape Life Coach, Counsellor, Brain Profile Practitioner and Inspirational Speaker: I met Pieter just over a year ago at the Centre of Spiritual Philosophy in Sea Point after presenting inspirational talks myself. During research for my Masters Degree on the subject matter of Quantum Physics and energy as well as my four Doctorate degrees in Metaphysics and the Science of Mind, I discovered and realised that any person with true psychic abilities has to be very sensitive to and be able to resonate with energy vibrations within the entire spectrum of our six sense, and this is exactly where Pieter distinguishes himself from the rest of the heard as it were. I recently had a session with Pieter and to say the least I was highly impressed by his true psychic abilities, mental skills and spiritual insight to read these invisible dimensions of our complex human existence. I highly recommend any person in searching for TRUTH to Pieter Bezuidenhout. (Abridged, original on file) Pieter Bezuidenhout will be in Port Elizabeth from Friday afternoon the 26th of May 2017 until Sunday the 28th (morning only). Contact him soon per e-mail (see below) or call 021 910 3499 or 072 903 0822 for: • A confidential One-on-One Consultation which could possibly change your life • Attending a Group Session (4-16 people) where he demonstrates Clairvoyance and Mediumship. You will have a better understanding of the spirit world and metaphysics in general. You might even find closure regarding the last moments of some loved ones before they crossed over. • Telephonic or E-mail Consultation (Contact him if you need him at any time other than his time in Port Elizabeth.) AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT Book early for best time slots and discounted tariffs. Dancers of local studio reach for the stars ODETTE PARFITT IN the last few months, 28 members of a dance school in Port Elizabeth have been pouring all their energy into practising – in the hope that with all this preparation they will see the bright lights of New York up close. The dancers of the Leanka Laubscher Dance School will participate in the national Talent Africa event which will be held in Port Elizabeth this week. Laubscher, herself a world champion who represented South Africa at the Los Angeles International Performing Arts Association, will be joining her students for some items. “I previously participated in the competition, but this year for the first time we entered the school as a whole,” said Laubscher. “In February we participated in the provincial round and went through in all of our items, from solo to group.” Since then they have been preparing even during the Easter weekend and school holidays - to blow the judges away when the

Easter tournament a success REPORTER

national round begins today (April 26). The South African team who will represent the country in New York in July is also selected there. “The dancers have had so much energy since we went to the national rounds that I could hardly keep them out of the studio,” she said. “We usually practise Mondays to Thursdays, but have also started practising on Fridays and Saturdays in the past month.” Laubscher believes that her dancers, aged between 8 and 17 years, are up to the challenge ahead. “The preparation is quite harsh, but we use the same routines as in the provincial round – with a little more flair.” Her advice to dancers who get nervous is simple – “to just do their best and leave the rest to God. “They must also enjoy the dance. If they do not enjoy it, it’s a waste of time. Even if they do not get a medal, they still had the chance to get on the stage.” . The event takes place from today, April 26 to April 29 at DF Malherbe High School.

TOURNAMENT director Valentine Brink has called the 44th SPAR Northern Areas Easter soccer tournament a massive success and said they were looking forward to an even better event next year. Brink has been involved in the Easter tournament since its inception in 1973 and said the festival of soccer continued to grow from strength to strength. “Even though there was some rain on Friday, thanks to the support of our sponsors, the whole weekend went off very well and we are excited as we look ahead to even bigger things next year,” said Brink. He felt one of the features which had made a significant difference was the decision to include an invitation team, Sibanye, who eventually pocketed the title. Made up of players from the ABC Motsepe and SAB Leagues and representing one of the sponsors of the tournament, Sibanye Electrical, they defeated Park United 5-3 on penalties in the final after a 1-1 score at the end of extra time. Brink said the Sibanye team had lifted the playing standard at the tournament resulting in the teams all raising the level of their play. “It was good to have these sorts of players in the tournament and I feel it is definitely an idea to pursue for the future. “None of the teams were disgraced against them and you could see them all working hard to show they could match Sibanye.

“This was proved in the final, where Park United competed all the way and only losing in a penalty shootout. “They certainly helped to produce a high standard of soccer throughout the weekend.” Another important feature of the festival, said Brink, was the age group divisions. “For example, we had 60 U/9 players in the tournament and also held an hourlong U/9 development clinic on the Sunday morning, where some of the tournament’s senior players passing on tips to the children.” He said there were also age groups from U/11 to U/17, while an U/20 category, with eight teams participating, was introduced for the first time. “These age group teams are very important for the tournament because one of our objectives is to promote the game among the youth and to give them something to aim for.” SPAR promotions and advertising manager Alan Stapleton said they were pleased to support the tournament for a second year. “From a SPAR perspective it was great to be involved with a tournament with such a wonderful heritage, which attracted players from a wide spectrum of clubs,” he said. “Besides being well organised, there was plenty of talent on display and a magnificent vibe throughout. “To end the tournament with two spectacular penalty shootouts (seniors and U/20) was indicative of the competitive nature of the soccer.”

Framesby player receives bursary to Sharks Academy REPORTER FRAMESBY High School’s fullback Lindsay Potgieter is among four Eastern Cape players who received bursaries to the Sharks Academy after the tenth annual Standard Bank Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival. The highly successfull tournament ended last week Monday, April 17, with three teams remaining unbeaten and the announcement of four Eastern Cape players who each received bursaries to the Sharks Academy. Apart from Potgieter, the other recipients of bursaries are Selborne College’s eighth man Adam Mountfort and fullback Jason Raubenheimer, as well as Dale College’s centre Siphamandla Matsinya. They will be joined by Dale captain, Aphelele Fassi, who won a bursary last year, but was

unable to take it up until 2018 as he was in Grade 11 at the time. The bursary includes a contract with the academy, accommodation and a tuition bursary with one of its education partners, valued at over R100 000 each. In announcing the awards, Etienne Fynn, managing director of the academy, said a great mix of schools from across the country had produced some excellent rugby at the festival. “The competition out there increases each year, so it’s a reflection on the standard of this festival that many of the schools keep returning,” he said. “Noord-Kaap brought an outstanding brand of rugby, Monument was abrasive and direct, Glenwood rugby is smooth and well oiled, Dale came with their usual verve and Framesby showed great character.” Hoërskool Noord-Kaap won the newly pre-

sented Standard Bank trophy for the most attractive play at the festival, while local team, Glenwood, HTS Drostdy from Worcester and Monument from Krugersdorp won all their fixtures over the weekend’s play. Selborne College won two of their three fixtures. They had gone into the last day unbeaten, but they were overpowered by Monument in the penultimate game of the festival. The three-day event was well supported by excellent crowds who enjoyed a high standard of competitive rugby.

Local dancers make history at world champs in Dublin REPORTER

REPORTER PORT Elizabeth Opera House’s popular Music Concert Series will return to the main stage this month with the Gospel Edition, featuring the finest Nelson Mandela Bay Gospel Artists.

FOUR dancers from the McWilliams Academy of Dance (M.A.D) studio in Port Elizabeth took part in the recent Irish Dancing World Championships in Dublin, Ireland. The dancers are Courtney Pearce, Siobhan Moore, Michaela Flood and Jenna Hayes. Pearce (24) made history when she became the first South African lady to ever recall at Worlds. This means that after the initial two rounds, her collective score placed her in the top 50 competitors, who are then given the opportunity to dance one more item for the panel of adjudicators in the final round. Courtney came in 47th place out of 204 competitors in the Ladies Over 21 category and was awarded a prestigious recall medal. “This is a dream come true! This is the 10th year that SA dancers have been competing at Worlds and it’s an incredible honour to be the dance teacher of the first female to ever make it to the recall round,” said Jennifer McWilliams, owner of the M.A.D studio. Moore (20) also made headlines when she was the only South African dancer to be awarded the Aisling Award, which is given to the highest placed dancer, per age category, from a developing country. The M.A.D studio is tremendously proud of all four dancers who helped put Irish Dancing in South Africa on the map.

Sisters aim for World Classic Powerlifting Champs ANIKA DE BEER TWO sisters from Port Elizabeth, Patricia (16) and Samantha Harding (18), have been chosen for the South African Powerlifting Team to compete at the 2017 World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Minsk, Belarus and they need help getting there. The sisters, who are attending Westering High School in Grade 11 and 12 respectively, have only been doing powerlifting for a year and they have already managed to make quite a name for themselves. “They had been watching other athletes doing it in the gym, and it all started when Andrew Ludik, who is coaching them, asked them to try it out,” said their mother, Jacqueline Harding, who is also their manager. Patricia’s list of accomplishments includes breaking the South African Deadlift record, receiving the prize in 2016 for Eastern Cape Most Improved – Women’s Powerlifting and placing first at the SA Raw Powerlifting Championships in Potchefstroom this year. Samantha boasts with achieving first place in all Eastern Cape competitions in her weight division in 2016, receiving the prize for Eastern Cape C-League – Women unequipped Powerlifting and qualifying for the SA Raw Powerlifting

Championship in Potchefstroom. It will cost R200 000 for the girls, Jacqueline and coach Andrew Ludik to attend the World Classic Powerlifting Championships. They are currently trying to raise funds in any way possible, including raffle forms and muffin sales, but raising such a large amount of money is not an easy task. “This is the opportunity of a lifetime for any girls their age. They would love to make Port Elizabeth and South Africa proud of them,” Jacqueline said. The Harding sisters share more than just a passion for powerlifting. They also love music, play chess and do cross-country running. Patricia dreams of one day studying tourism or to become a chef, while Samantha is planning on studying sports management, fitness and nutrition and personal training. Both hope to either work on passenger liners after completing their studies or au pair in Holland. For the moment, though, their biggest goal in life is making it to The World Classic Powerlifting Championships which will take place from June 14 to 25. Anyone who wishes to make a donation or sponsor them can contact Jacqueline on 083 650 9029 or jacqueline.harding47@gmail.com.

AFTER 9 YEARS OF SUFFERING MAAMA FATIMA SAVED MY LIFE I am 45 years old from Summerstrand, after losing in all

healers, as I have tried almost all of them in Eastern Cape. Not one had helped me, until Maama Fatima saved me, my life was a mess. I had two big court cases, no job at the time and my girlfriend had left me. My life was upside down, luckily I read about Maama Fatima. She gave me a MAGIC RING and the first day, I won R420 000 in the casino, my financial problems were solved, my court cases were dismissed and I am happily in love now. The name Maama Fatima means joy in my life Stop suffering in silence.

ARE YOU FRUSTRATED AND DEPRESSED FINANCIALLY (DON'T lose faith, give Prof Hope a try)

Strongest Healer

My name is Reuben, am 48 years old, I stay with 4 children, for a very long time there was no happiness in my life, even my wife left me because I couldn't support my own family. I had to look after my parents. I was the only breadwinner in our family and I was working as care giver. I struggled financially my kids needed school uniforms, my parents needed help with basic needs as they are elderly. I visited different pastors, prophets and traditional healers with no one could help me. I wasted all the money, but no results, I just kept losing the little I had. I was helpless for many years, until I read a testimony of Gabriel who was testifying the good work Prof Hope did to change his life by using Short boys to put money into his account. I made an appointment with him he explained to me all the options like money rats to put money in the house on same day, short boys to put money in your Account on same day, magic ring to win money games like gambling, casino, lotto and betting. Magic wallet to multiply your money. I chose money rats to put money in my house. He explained to me the process, I couldn't believe when I received the money on the same day. I immediately contacted him and paid him 25% and my sister chose magic ring for lotto and we are financially stable, all thanks to Prof Hope. Also helps with: bring back lost lover, family matters, bring back stolen goods, bind y o u r p r o p e r t y, m a l e enlargement. Home visits AROUND Eastern Cape.

PE EXPRESS | WEDNESDAY 26 APRIL 2017

EXPRESS ON WHEELS: BETTIE GILIOMEE

Isuzu gives its range and models a facelift AT the end of last year General Motors South Africa (GMSA) launched its facelifted version of the sixth generation Isuzu KB with styling changes to the front fascia and rear tailgate as well as a redesigned instrument gauge cluster. GMSA recently gave Express on Wheels two of their new Isuzu bakkies to put to the test on the mom’s taxi route, the facelifted KB 300 D-TEQ LX 4x4 with extended cab (R479 200) as well as the new X-Rider double cab (R388 400) based on the KB 250 Hi-Rider Double Cab. The X-rider has bold styling with decals inside and out and is available in extended and double-cab versions. In fact, the X-Rider’s styling is so eyecatching, that while waiting to take delivery of the test vehicle and standing next to it, another Isuzu owner, who was driving past at the time, made a u-turn and came over to ask me where I got the nice X-rider bars. The KB 300 DTEQ LX 4x4 extended cab The extended cab has plenty of space behind the seats for all your loose luggage and shopping. In the LX models there is a lockable storage space behind the driver’s seat. The 300 D-TEQ extended cab is available in 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive, where the test model is the 4-wheel drive variety, which only comes with manual transmission. The gearbox felt typically like that of a bakkie with changing gears taking a little bit more effort than that of a car, but one quickly adjusts to this driving style; as well as to the fact that it’s engine is so powerfull that at times it’s easier to pull away in second gear rather than first. Those who do not like changing gears in a bakkie will be pleased to know that the 4x2

version of the KB300 D-Teq extended cab is available with an automatic transmission. Exterior The revamped Isuzu sports a new front facia and rear tailgate design. The front fascia changes include changes to the bonnet, radiator grille and fog lamps. New headlamps with projector and integrated LED daytime running lights are also standard on LX models. The Extended Cab LX comes standard with Rear Park Assist, helping one to navigate those tough parking spots on the school and shopping centre run. On Double Cab LX models a rearview camera is integrated into the tailgate handle. The LX models have new 18 inch alloy wheels, while the rest of the range has new 16 inch styled wheels. The 3 litre 4x4 LX Double Cab also now comes standard with a towbar, sportsbar, roofrails and power adjustable leather seats. Interior The layout of the interior is very basic, but a lot has been done to give it a car-like feel. The upgrades include a new instrument cluster design and gear shift indicator for manual models.

The LX models also come standard with a touch screen infotainment system with satellite navigation, internet, WiFi and smartphone integration. Steering wheel mounted cruise control is available on LX models only. The interior also features multiple storage compartments. Ride The KB range is available with 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre engines. The powerful 3.0-litre DTEQ turbocharged diesel engine produces 130kW and 380Nm from the common rail direct injection turbodiesel. The new Isuzu’s rear suspension has been tweaked for improved ride comfort. Without a big load on the urban communte, I did find the ride a bit floaty on my daily commute which includes a lot of speed bumps and traffic circles – but no more so than other bakkies that I have test driven. What sets the XRider apart? The X-Rider model was launched last year with just over 700 units available. It proved so popular that this year it returns as a permanent fixture in the range of 19 KB derivatives available in SA. Styling is what mainly sets the KB 250

X-Rider 4x2 Double Cab apart from the other Isuzu KBs. These include diamond-cut 18-inch alloys with red “Isuzu” centre caps, the black bumper guard with integrated fog lamps, black tubular side steps/sports bar with X-Rider decals, and the blacked out B-pillars. The wheels are shod with low-profile 255/50 Grabber AT all-terrain tyres. There’s a heavy-duty tow bar as standard, giving the X-Rider a 2.1-tonne braked trailer towing capacity. It’s interior styling is also more upmarket and luxurious than that of your usual workhorse and it features leather upholstery, steering wheel and gear-lever boot as well as Piano Black trim on doors, air vents, radio and front console. Red stitching accentuates the luxury feel of the leather interior. The X-Rider insignia is embroidered on the front headrests, with a red ‘X’ in the same font also appearing on the door trims. Other hi-spec features include remote keyless entry, satellite controls on the steering wheel, air conditioning and projector headlights with daytime running lights. One of the features I, however, missed on the test model was park assist sensors. With bakkies becoming more like town cars these days, park assist should almost be a standard feature on most double cabs.

TALKING F1: NATALIE LE CLUE

Vodacom Clarendon Park U/11 Rugby Fest held

Game on in Russia FROM the middle of the Bahrain desert the Formula 1 paddock travels to the coast of Russia for the fourth round of the 2017 season. The Sochi Autodrom made its debut on the F1 calendar in 2014 and received a fairly lukewarm reception from fans. For one thing the circuit lacks any sort of elevation change, which normally accounts for trickier braking zones. The layout of the track, at 5.8 kilometres, is characterised by long straits and ninety-degree corners, which will test a car’s efficiency in traction and how well it rotates on its axis. “It’s always challenging to come from a high speed into a low-speed corner and achieve the best out of braking,” said Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. In the three past races at the Sochi Autodrom, the amount of tyre degradation experienced has been negligible. Memorably, in 2014, after flat-spotting his tyres into turn one, Nico Rosberg pitted on the first lap of the race and completed 52 laps on one set of tyres. But things might be a bit different in 2017 for a variety of reasons. First, the paddock arrives in Russia slightly later in the year than normal and, temperature-wise, it should be hotter. Second, this will be the third race weekend on the track surface, which will have “settled” in a bit more and, therefore, should produce more grip. The 2017 cars will also corner a lot faster than in previous years which will place significantly more stress on the tyres which should affect tyre life. Pirelli have nominated the soft, supersoft, and ultrasoft compounds for this weekend’s race.

Who will it suit? With all things being equal, Mercedes has proven that on Saturdays, in qualifying, they are still king. But even so. Sunday is when the points are awarded and this is where Ferrari is likely to come into its own. Traditionally, Ferrari has performed better on the supersoft tyre than Mercedes and this, along with their inherent pace, will likely be their trump card. Nevertheless, it will still require a perfect all-round performance from the team, including the pitwall’s calls on strategy. On paper it shouldn’t be a circuit where Red Bull does well, but they have in the past. It’s unlikely that they’ll be going for the win or even the podium. Nevertheless, where there is a Max, there almost always seems to be a way. There is something special in the make-up and performance from the young Dutchman that demands attention – and which makes it impossible for him to be ruled out of the equation. It’s always an exciting prospect to imagine what he might pull out of his bag of tricks come race day. In the mid-field, Williams should do well given the Mercedes power unit bolted to the back of their car. Though – through no fault of his own – Lance Stroll is yet to finish a race in 2017. It will be a tall order, but it needs to be the Canadian driver who shines for the British team this weekend. Who would’ve thought at the height of Mercedes’ domination last year, that on the cusp of the fourth round of the 2017 season, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel would be leading the driver’s championship by seven points. And in truth, any one of four drivers has a legitimate chance of winning the Russian Grand Prix this weekend.
