Boxing fraternity mourns death of Linda ‘Black Mamba’ Nondzaba NCEBA DLADLA

F

ORMER South African Welterweight boxing champion Linda “Black Mamba” Nondzaba is no more.

The likable awkward south-paw Nondzaba with a solid punch like a hammer, died aged 51 in his sleep at his Wells Estate home, Port Elizabeth on Sunday morning after a short illness. His younger brother Lomelele Fana who spent the night with the family described how the former champ who was not feeling well in weeks made them believe that he was fine the previous night. “Lately he was not eating. He refused to eat. But surprisingly he ate well and was talking like his usual self on Saturday night. We are shattered as the family,” said Lomelele.

“We want to send our deepest condolences to his family. We have lost a good man who stood for the development of boxing at grassroots level. Nondzaba made an immense contribution to the development of boxing working with the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture in Nelson Mandela Bay,” said Boxing South Africa (BSA) regional boss, Mthunzi Mapitiza. According to Mapitiza, Nondzaba did not like to be part of the boxing structure where people talked but did nothing to help develop the sport. A married father of three, Nondzaba who worked at Cadbury until his last days would ask the company and other local businesses for sponsorship to do development fights in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and against amateur boxers from the Buffalo City Metro Municipality, reminisced Mapitiza, adding that Nondzaba would be sorely missed.

“He worked for the development of amateur boxing and was not interested in holding a position in the boxing structure,” agreed Nelson Mandela Bay Amateur Boxing Organisation Secretary Ntsikelelo Ndimande. Nondzaba, added Ndimande, would assist boys without boxing kit like shorts, boots and vests by buying them. He did not pick and choose clubs, he treated them all with the same love and respect. Nondzaba who chalked up more than 33 fights, 25 wins with 14KOs, five losses and three stalemates in a career that spanned nine years beat Frederick “Gorilla” Siswana to win the SA title in Uitenhage in 1990 and successfully defended it against Phumzile “Sweet Boy” Madikane and lost it against Sydney Msuthu the following year. His mentor Chief Masemola at Fighting Terror Boxing Club also sent his condolens-

es to the family for having lost a man of integrity and respect like Nondzaba. Speaking from his home in Witbank in the Mpumalanga province, Masemola remembered Nondzaba as a dedicated man, a hard worker and puncher who was not pushed to train in the gym. “When I last saw him he invited me to a boxing tournament which he had organised. He thanked me for the work I did as his trainer and he honoured me with a trophy that day. May his soul rest in peace. We’ll miss him.” The son of Mncedisi and Nothobile Nondzaba leaves behind his wife, Nombeko Limise Nondzaba and children Luvuyo, Sinalo and Ziyanda. According to his brother the Rev. Phakamile Nondzaba, the boxer who was born in Mxhelo Village in Alice will be laid to rest at home in Mxhelo on Saturday October 18.

Say ‘NO MORE’ - zero tolerance of rape

REPORTER THE Kwanele-Enuf Foundation has advanced its vision to transform South Africa from the “rape capital of the world” by raising national consciousness on “zero tolerance of rape” Wednesdays. Andy Kawa, social activist against genderbased violence, is advancing her life’s mission to make South Africa the “safest and most secure country for women, children and the vulnerable” by urging all citizens to say “Kwanele! Enuf!– zero tolerance of rape!” They can do this by wearing a specially designed T-shirt on Wednesdays and posting a resounding message on their social media pages. The inaugural launch of the ‘Kwanele! Enuf! – zero tolerance of rape’ national campaign was held at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth on 1 October. It will now roll out at other universities and institutions of higher learning. Andy established the Kwanele-Enuf Foundation after she suffered a gruesome gangrape ordeal in Port Elizabeth almost four years ago. In despair after her ordeal, Andy

was inspired by Nelson Mandela’s quote in “Broken Bones and Broken Bodies: Violence against Women Exposed”, in which he said “Safety and security do not just happen; they are a result of a collective consensus and public investment. We owe it to our children – the most vulnerable citizens of society – a life free from violence and fear. “South Africans never fail to show their support of national sporting teams by wearing T-shirts on designated Fridays – the same could easily be done for so many who suffer gender-based violent crimes,” says Andy. “I believe that it is every citizen’s responsibility to heal our land of the brutality of gender-based violence and all forms of crime and to uphold our rights to human dignity and protection from the perpetrators.” Andy believes that, as a society, South Africa is in need of healing and reconciliation as cases of rape and sexual abuse run deep in the social fabric. If only women, men and children of this country were able to live freely without fear of rape and molestation, and rape and sexual violence were the exception rather than the norm. “The work of transformation has to start in

the smallest places, our homes, where we protect our children, the handicapped and our elderly – the vulnerable of our society,” says Andy. “From families this transformation will move to our communities, schools, organisations and society as a whole.” .In the meantime, the public is encouraged

to show support by writing “Enuf” on their hands, taking a photo and sharing it on their Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages. The T-shirt and other merchandise can also be bought online via the Kwanele-Enuf website, www.kwanele-enuf.co.za. Kwanele-Enuf can also be followed on Twitter: @Kwanele and Facebook: KwaneleEnuflsEnuf.

Thugs pretending to be police rob New Brighton tavern NCEBA DLADLA MEMBERS of the SA Police Service (SAPS) in New Brighton are investigating a business robbery case after a 20 year old tavernowner from Chris Hani Squatter Camp was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday morning. According to New Brighton police spokes-

person Constable Mncedi Mbombo, Xhanti Mralaza (20) was sleeping in his tavern at about 4:30am on Sunday when he heard a knock on the door. “The people at the door claimed to be police and demanded that he open the door,” said Mbombo. According to Mbombo the would-be robbers started kicking the door until the vic-

tim woke up. Mralaza quickly switched off all the lights and then ran to another room to hide himself, according to the police spokesperson. The suspects successfully kicked open the door of Xhanti’s tavern. They got in and took cash, liquor and groceries, said Mbombo, adding that the total

value of the items which were taken was R6 100. Warned Mbombo, “People must please make sure before they opened the doors because robbers have a tendency topretend they were police.” He said police have opened for investigation a case of business robbery .

Sod-turning of multi-million rand centre honoured slain politician INDABA REPORTER NELSON Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Benson Fihla said the memory of ANC fighter for social justice Buyisile Mkavu was honoured during the sod-turning of a R22 million multi-purpose centre in KwaLanga, Uitenhage. The centre will be erected over the next eight months bringing government services such as primary healthcare, policing and customer care closer to the community and it will also be used as a sporting facility amongst others. Buyisile Mkavu, an inspirational political head of human settlements at the time of his death, was cold-bloodedly assassinated on Saturday night (2 August) shortly after he visited the house of a deceased comrade in KwaNobuhle. “Last week the MEC for Human Settlements Helen Sauls-August launched a R22 million multi-purpose centre in KwaLanga

and announced that more than 200 job opportunities will be created during the building of the facility over the next eight months. “Most notably Councillor Buyisile Mkavu was honoured for his role in making the sodturning a reality. “Mkavu, supported by his comrades went beyond the call of duty by going to East London and even Parliament to discuss the importance of this development. “His effort was not in vain. “Many local people will be employed during the construction and the community will have a fantastic Multi-purpose Centre for their use. This reminded all of us that we lost a man of honour, integrity and great value to the community he served and his comrades. “Fellow councillors, Mkavu’s example of working tirelessly for the community without claiming praise and credit on public platforms must be copied. There are those among us who run to public platforms without due consideration for internal processes and procedures,” Mayor Fihla said.

3 Vuyisile Mini statue in honour of the martyr News

October 8, 2014 Indaba

INDABA REPORTER THE redesign of Vuyisile Mini Square with a statue of anti-Apartheid martyr Vuyisile Mini is a chance for Oom Ben to say goodbye. Executive Mayor Benson Fihla, affectionately known as Oom Ben, remembers how difficult it was to find words for Vuyisile Mini after Mini was condemned to death in 1964, especially since their holding cells were opposite each other. The approval of a Council design on Friday (3 October) to redevelop Vuyisile Mini Square and erect a statue of the unionist is

now Oom Ben’s chance to finally say farewell to his comrade. Mini was condemned to hang and Oom Ben, after narrowly missing the hangman’s noose owing to a lack of evidence, was sentenced to imprisonment on Robben Island. Shortly after Oom Ben first stepped into his office that towers over the square named after Vuyisile Mini, he bemoaned the fact that nothing about the square resembles Mini or what he stood for. “I remember being placed in a single cell opposite Vuyisile Mini in the North End Prison (it was known as Rooi Hel back then) and it was torture because I did not know

what to say to them. “We could still go to jail and still be released, but for them it was death. This was pure torture for me. When we were moved to Robben Island, it was very difficult to say good bye. We knew that we would never see them again. “I was told that when they were taken to Pretoria they kept on singing. We were later told that when the singing stopped, there was a dead silence as they were no more,” Mayor Fihla said. The Mandela Bay Development Agency, established by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in 2003, is responsible for the imple-

mentation of this important council decision. Their scope of work includes the: •redesign of Vuyisile Mini Square to ensure that it is clear for the use of the general public with limited parking areas, •Further parking is to be considered behind the Feathermarket Centre where parking had been allocated for Councillors and the general public, but not used at the moment, •A temporary statue of Vuyisile Mini; and, •A permanent piece of public art commemorating Vuyisile Mini procured from an experienced sculptor of good standing.

Trollip’s appeal is ‘waste of time and energy‘ NCEBA DLADLA DEMOCRATIC Alliance (DA) leader in the Eastern Cape Provincial legislature, Athol Trollip, will be well advised not to waste his energy and time by going to court against his sanctioning by the Ethics Committee in the legislature, said MPL Deputy Speaker, Bulelwa Tunyiswa. The DA formally lodged its objection after the committee found him guilty of contravening the code of ethics of the legislature, for impugning the Premier, Phumullo Masualle’s good name (for allegedly

calling him a liar and a cheat) and for refusing to apologise for this. The sanction handed down is a fifteen day suspension, which bars Athol Trollip from holding any position in the legislature, from attending any legislature activities and from making use of any legislature facilities. This is also coupled to a fine of one months’ salary. According to Tunyiswa, Section 116 of the country’s constitution allows provincial legislatures to make internal arrangements in terms of parliamentary rules. “The Ethics Committee is a senior-decision making structure whose decision

EC Provincial Commissioner visits Northern Areas crime hot spots INDABA REPORTER EASTERN Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Celiwe Binta visited Gelvandale Police Station and met the Station Commander of both Bethelsdorp and Gelvandale Police Stations as well as the Acting Cluster Commander, Brig J le Bok on Friday, October 3. The reason for the visit, according to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, was to look at challenges and critical issues and assistance that both stations needed internally and externally in their fight against crime. More emphasis was on gang-related violence, according to Labans.

“This assistance would ensure that the two stations’ needs would be attended to from grass-roots level,” said Labans. The Provincial Commissioner personally acquainted herself with the Gelvandale Station’s hot spots by driving through the different suburbs. One of her major concerns was the children in the streets who were not attending school during school hours as well as adults roaming or standing in the streets owing to unemployment. The Provincial Commissioner further raised her concern about the growth of Gelvandale and Bethelsdorp population especially the Gelvandale station where there was a highly condensed settlement around the station’s policing precinct, Labans said.

He said apologising for this would be “tantamount to self-muzzling or self-emasculation”. “I could never accede to the silencing of the official opposition in a constitutional democracy, especially as we are faced with an ever-more paranoid and thin-skinned government that refuses to be held to account by not only the opposition, but Chapter Nine institutions too,” said Trollip.

4 Local’s designs showcased at International Fashion week News

October 8, 2014 Indaba

LASHEIGH LUCAS LOCAL fashion designer, Thabo Makhetha, recently had the opportunity to showcase his 2015 Kobo Spring/Summer collection at the Vancouver Fashion Week in Canada. This international fashion week is a platform where designers are invited to come and showcase their work to the world. It is a platform that has launched many designers in terms of their international careers. Media houses including Vogue and Niche Magazines send out representatives and photographers to scout around for new talent. “I was invited to come and showcase at the fashion week on September 16 and I was the fourth designer to showcase on that day. “I was complimented about the use of strong colour alongside the monochrome garments, as well as overall presentation on the catwalk which included the use of local music by Mafikizolo. I wanted to make

sure everything they saw, heard and experienced during my show was 100% South African,” said Makhetha, who is the head designer and managing member of Thabo Makhetha Designs. The collection was inspired by the designer’s heritage, the Basotho culture. The Kobo Ea Bohali (Blankets of Prestige) Collection is made from authentic traditional Basotho blankets. “There are various types of blankets that we use. The acrylic blankets are known as ‘Khotso’ and the wool comes in various types – the most popular ones are the Motlatsi, Seana Marena and Victoria England. The idea behind the collection was to take a traditional item and modernise it and make it an everyday fashion item,” said Makhetha. The opportunity means a great deal to many designers. “The fact that I was invited, shows that there are no real limitations being in Nelson Mandela Bay if your fashion brand can get international attention like this,” she added. She went on saying that the Van-

Anglican gogos play sports to keep fit NCEBA DLADLA MEMBERS of the St Andrews Anglican Church Mothers Union in KwaNobuhle under Rev. Phumla Mtila have taken a call to exercise and keep fit for a healthy mind. “Physical fitness is important for a person to listen well spiritually. We encourage our church members to exercise to keep fit, reduce stress and maintain weight. People need healthy bodies to live healthy lives,” said Rev. Mtila. He added that short walks and such games as netball, football, egg-race, handball, upuca keep the elderly mentally alert and physically fit - something necessary to build and strengthen their marriage relationships with their spouses as well.

“So, at the Diocesan level, they compete against other parishes in the Sports Day that was held in Port Elizabeth last Saturday,” said Rev. Mtila. PE Express Indaba saw the old gogos leaving their meeting place, the church at Jolobe Street for the Love Life Sports Centre to play sports in preparation for the Diocesan Games which took place at the Lilian Ngoyi Sports Centre in Kwazakhele last Saturday October 4. “We play here in preparation for the annual games. We love these games. They keep us healthy and happy,” said gogo Lumka Jantjies. “We are the Anglicans under Rev. Mtila. He encourages us to play and now we are enjoying it,” said gogo Nondyebo Maranjana.

De-densification programme of Helenvale on course NCEBA DLADLA MEC for Human Settlements Helen Sauls-August did not come to Port Elizabeth to meet Helenvale residents for the de-densifying of their area as promised on Sunday owing to other pressing government commitments. The Department’s head, Gaster Sharpely, however, communicated government’s plans to the residents.

According to Human Settlements spokesperson Lwandile Sicwetsha, many Helenvale residents were forcibly removed from South End in Port Elizabeth through the Group Areas Act of 1970. That resulted in some of the families living in congested two-roomed houses of twenty people each, he said. The Department has acquired land in Parsonsvlei, according to Sicwetsha, and that would make it possible for the families to be

settled in the de-densification programmes which would cater for all income groups in the area. According to Sicwetsha, unlike during the apartheid past, the Human Settlements Department, presented a mixed mode development programme which would accommodate people without an income as well as people of all income groups. The latter would include interested civil servants such as nurses, police and teachers

that earned salaries of between R7 500 and R15 000. “The HOD (Sharpely) presented the programme to the residents and explained that the visit was part of the consultation. This was so that they would know about governments’ plans and they were overjoyed,” said Sicwetsha. According to Sicwetsha, it is hoped that the de-densification programme will commence in the next financial year, starting in March 2015.

Chess introduced to Motherwell Primary Schools

SELBY MADIKANE NELSON Mandela Bay Chess Union has already started to introduce the game of chess to Motherwell Primary Schools. The five primary schools which participate in the Nelson Mandela Bay Chess Union are Imbasa, Enkwenkwezini, Khwezelihle, Siyaphambili and Mpumalanga. According to coach Lulamile Booi, the NMB Chess Union have resolved to introduce the game of chess to the primary schools once a week because they want the pupils to acquire the skills of the game while they are still young. Coach Booi also said the game of chess “helps the learners in logical thinking, mathematical

skills and solving problems in their general lives”. “The learners enjoy the game of chess and that makes me very delighted. Furthermore the learners’ interest indicates that we are doing good work for the learners. “What I have noticed is that these learners follow the rules of the game so easily. These learners have the potential to become great chess stars”, said Booi. Imbasa learner Asemahle Qoko stated that she would like to thank Coach Booi for helping them to know how to play chess. Qoko said, “Since the introduction of chess to us, my Mathematics marks have vastly improved and in other learning areas I do better than before.”

Buli G encourages learners from Walmer Township REPORTER THE Umtombo Wolwazi Library at Walmer High School was filled with a warm and exciting atmosphere as Buli G Ngomane encouraged learners to reach for the stars and become the masters of their own destiny earlier last week. Buli G is a Communications Executive and an independent entertainment professional. Her 15 years of experience in media world has won her a number of accolades. “When I received an invitation from Masifunde Learner Development and Ekhaya Communications to be part of their ‘Week of Big Dreams’, I graciously accepted,” said Buli G. “It warms my heart, that the learners are excited about my visit and want to listen to what I have to say.” Buli G explained how luck comes with preparing yourself for opportunities. “There are no short-cuts to success,” she said, “You must work hard and have a good attitude.” Buli G inspired the learners with some snippets from her life and how her career has taken her around the world and given her the opportunity to meet awardwinning celebrities such as Will Smith, Celine Dion and the late Miriam Makeba. “The Week of Big Dreams” was a concept developed by a team of senior Media Communications and Culture students at NMMU in collaboration with Masifunde Learner Development. It is a week-long series of inspirational workshops designed to inspire and motivate learners from Walmer Township to find their passion and follow dreams. “We want the learners to realise that education, career and life are not linear, standardised processes but need to be tailor-made according to each individual’s skills, passions and dreams,” said Jonas Schumacher, Managing Director of Masifunde Learner Development. “Sometimes you have to sacrifice your social life to do what you have to do to succeed. And if you don’t love what you do it becomes very hard to be successful.” said Buli G. She also advised the learners to look at subjects that they are passionate about and then excel at them. “If you love what you do success will follow,” she went on to say, “Surround yourself with positive people and people who will support your dreams”.

KwaNobuhle netball clubs sharpening their skills NCEBA DLADLA KWANOBUHLE netball teams are sharpening their skills at the Love Life Centre every weekend and coach Amanda Konono believes the place of Etolofiyeni will soon have players to represent South Africa in the not too distant future. The past weekend has been the same with local clubs dishing the best netball games to be witnessed by the very supportive crowds.

Fit as fiddle Sondishe wants a chance in the boxing ring NCEBA DLADLA FORMER Uitenhage professional boxer Nceba Sondishe is hopping mad. He wants to step in into the ring and continue with his love of boxing. Speaking to this reporter during the boxing tournament featuring a South African Female Junior-lightweight title fight between local lass Nomampondomise Xotyeni and Nomvelo Magcaba of KwaZulu-Natal held at Sizakele Konzi Community Hall at the weekend, Sondishe said he believed he

still has what it takes to give today’s inexperienced and lazy boxers a hiding. “I am too skilful and fit for many of today’s lazy boxers. Mr Mthunzi Mapitiza (Nelson Mandela Bay Boxing SA (BSA Service Provider) should please allow me to fight when an opportunity to register opens in March next year,” said Sondishe as he saw Mapitiza approaching. “Look at me now. I am still fit. I don’t fear hard work. I run every day and go to the gym at least five times a week. I train hard and hit a heavy punching-bag up to 10-rounds. I don’t drink and smoke. I am unemployed and

boxing can help me feed my family,” said Sondishe showing his fists. Mapitiza laughed and told him to “Come next year. We’ll see.” Sondishe claimed he fought 38 times winning 20 and losing 10 fights with eight draws during his heyday. Indaba Express could however, only find record on the internet site “boxrec” of Sondishe having 26 fights, seven wins, 14 losses and five draws. He said his last fight was against Vuyani Moss from Dimbaza in 2003. Boxrec records only a tko3 loss against Vuyani Moss in 2002 in his last fight.

Walmer township youth dream of being football stars NCEBA DLADLA SEEING local township children loitering in the streets prompted Thulani Dlakwe to help them start something good for themselves, something which, with nurturing and harnessing, would also benefit their families. Dlakwe (25) of Area Q in Walmer Township was concerned about the youth who would be lost to drugs and crime. To address this he decided to start a soccer team. This marked the birth in 2011 of Area Q Football Club (FC) which participates in the Walmer Football Association (WAFA) U-15 and U-17 Leagues. “I started this club because I wanted to keep the youth off the streets. I realised that there was a lot of potential that could be lost, so I went to their homes and pleaded that they be allowed to come and play football,” said Dlakwe. Most of the parents commended him for the move and indeed came to watch them when they played home matches.

About 60 of the youth who are still at school meet every Tuesday to Thursday to practise at the ground near the robots at 10th Avenue in a place called eFleyini. During PE Express Indaba’s visit Dlakwe said other players were still at school for the Music Show which was compulsory to attend. The playground is near the pond and is full of potholes. They use stones for poles. The place is not necessarily conducive for them to play on but they accept it as they have nothing better. “We appreciate what Thulani is doing. He is a good coach. We like football,” said Thembalethu Gongqoba whose dream is to play for a professional football outfit “in order to change my situation of poverty at home,” he said. “All we want is to play football. We love football,” said Dlakwe. He added that his main aim was to see his players being scouted by PSL teams including Chippa United. He urged other teams from outside of Walmer to invite them, saying they were prepared to raise funds and travel when there was a need.

REPORTER THE 8 top teams from the local NODEFA U13 League will face off in a knockout format tournament to conclude their NODEFA season. The tournament, sponsored by Build It Kwanobuhle will take place at the Jabavu Rugby Stadium in Kwanobuhle on October 11. The day’s festivities begin with the competing teams coming together at Kwanobuhle Build It on the morning of the tournament to take part in a march through the local com-

munity to the stadium. The march is to be led by a local procession of drum majorettes. The first game kicks off at 10am and teams will play 4 quarter final games before lunch at 1pm. The winning teams will then progress to the semi-finals after lunch with the final kick off at 3:30pm. Organisers said there will be an attendance draw on the day with a Kaizer Chiefs front door signed by former Kaizer Chiefs Captain, Jimmy Tau up for grabs. The official prizegiving will commence im-

Callies declared PEFA Premier KO Cup champs SELBY MADIKANE PORT Elizabeth Football Association (PEFA) ultimately pulled down its season curtain with Callies winning PEFA Premier League Knockout Trophy at Westbourne Oval Stadium on Saturday. Londt Park side disarmed PE Defence when they humiliated them 4-1 in the PEFA Premier League Knockout finals. Callies were guns blazing and PE Defence could not withstand their opponents’ immense pressure. In the PEFA First Division Knockout finals the Soweto-on-Sea boys Leeds United, emerged victorious when they handed a 2-0 defeat to St Georges Colts. Old Grey earned a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over St Georges Knights in their Second Division finals. In the PEFA Premier League Reserves Knockout finals KwaDwesi All Stars handed Callies a 3-2 defeat after the sides played to a 2-2 fulltime tie, with Stars scoring a winning goal in the extra time. The goals of Stars came courtesy of Vuyo Mhanga, Siyanda Manga and Thulani Siphango while Callies’ goals were banged in by goalkeeper Cuan

Ricks (penalty) and Dillon Gertnyshuisen (from a set piece). Callies’ left wing Sizwe Vezile and Stars striker Thulani Siphango had a storming game each. Drama happened when Callies finished the game with nine men when their two players went for early showers.

10 men Lion City beat Island City SELBY MADIKANE LION City kept their winning momentum alive when they beat Island City 5-2 during the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League clash at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Sunday. Lion registered four quick goals which were banged in by Siyasanga Ngetu (a brace), Malibongwe Thwala Maseti and Unathi Kuzwayo while Asanda Kama replied for Island. Lion went into half-time their goalkeeper being given marching orders by the referee for beating Island player with his elbow. In the second half Island came up strongly against Lion and their striker Keldriano Goliath scored a soft goal following the scramble in Lion’s goal area. The visitors tested Lion’s green goalkeeper who initially looked nervous, but as

the game proceeded he pulled brilliant saves to deny Island goals. Lion’s marksman Akhona Manxola’s goal from the penalty mark dashed any hopes of Island of winning the game. Camper United also frustrated their coach when they slipped 2-1 to Despatch Pioneers at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium. Camper’s consolation goal was scored by Lukhanyo Adonisi while Luvuyo Gewu and Siphelele Mence came up with a goal apiece. Young Ideas had a difficult assignment when they beat the resilient Central Acemates 2-1. Other SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League results:

mediately thereafter at 4:20pm with presentations by Build It, NODEFA Presidency and SAFA officials. This year marks the 10 year milestone for the Build It U13 Soccer Initiative which was started in 2005 and is a nation-wide programme which has created the platform for Build It Stores to be able to participate in and contribute towards the upliftment and development of this sport within communities in which they trade. This year there will be approximately 180 national tournaments involving 48000 U13

players, making this one of the biggest development programmes in South Africa. 2014 marks the 5th year that Kwanobuhle Buildit will be involved in bringing this initiative to the community we serve. The winning team will receive a trophy and each player will receive a trophy as well as a sports bag. Each runner-up player will receive a trophy and a sports bag. The player of the tournament will receive a trophy, a game ball as well as a soccer sports bag designed by Clive Barker for the Build It initiative.

Bay teams engaged in preparation games for ABC Motsepe League SELBY MADIKANE WITH the SAFA Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League season around the corner, three Nelson Mandela Bay teams played friendly games against one another at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Sunday. Real City, SUBS and Morning Stars were engaged in the league preparation games. The teams with new signees looked ready for campaigning in the Eastern Cape provincial topflight football. Only one MOFA side Shining Stars tested their strength against Real City which struggled to beat them 3-2. In their enthralling second game City overcame Morning Stars 2-0. Lifa Teyise scored City’s first goal in the first half with Stars pushing more players in search of an equaliser. In the second half City’s new signee Jerry Ngoqo banged a well taken goal following a good play by Landile Mfulana to make a final score 2-0. However, SUBS drew 1-1 with Morning Stars and they beat City 1-0 a goal thanks to Luthando Lualua Matiwane.

Lads’ fans disappointed by Liverpool SELBY MADIKANE TO THE dismay of City Lads’ fans, their side was awarded maximum three points when they were supposed to have played against Liverpool who failed to honour their SAFA Eastern Cape Sasol Ladies League Stream A game at Chevrolet Stadium in New Brighton on Saturday. However, Lads lead other teams in their stream league table, with Manchester Babes

hot on their heels. Apparently, the New Brighton side sets their sights on the national promotional playoffs. Manchester Babes hammered the students of University of Fort Hare 3-1 at Jabavu Stadium in KwaNobuhle. Mustangs Ladies suffered another huge setback in their 3-1 loss to Continental Express at Dynamos Grounds in KwaZakhele. In a thrilling goal-rich game, Birmingham City were held to a 4-4 draw by Thunderbirds at North End Stadium in East London.

Camper recorded their first win of the season SELBY MADIKANE SOWETI-ON-SEA side Camper United recorded their first win of the season following their dismal performance to the start of the season when they came face-to-face with Little Birds in their ZWIFA Ntando Transport Premier League clash at Gal City Grounds in Zwide on Saturday. opponents whom they edged out 3-2, were also desperate for their first win of the premier league. Shining Stars earned a hard 3-2 win over Real Dodgers while Strikers United took Real Crusaders aback in their 1—1 draw. Golden Aces succumbed 4-3 to Zwide Pirates in their pulsating game. Swartkops United whacked Manchester City 3-1 with Sophakama Stars hammering Morning Stars 6-1 in their one-sided affair. In a do-or-die close contest, Gal City shared the spoils 1-1 with Kuyasa United.
