In 2010, she joined Zithethele newspaper, after a few years of being a freelancer for whatever publication would accept her work. She is currently head of news at Zithethele, which is run by a team of young female journalists of her age group. Sinqe said, “Leading a team of females of your age group is not easy, but I always tell myself that I have to press on because journalism is my calling, not a career.” “The workshop is attended by about 40 young world journalists, including some sea-

Commonwealth Chess Tourney brings international star players to the Bay NCEBA DLADLA FORMER World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov is expected to arrive in the Friendly City this Friday, July 12. Kasparov will be coming to watch the 19th prestige Commonwealth Chess Tournament taking place at the Boardwalk Entertainment World and Casino until this Sunday, July 14. “Kasparov, who retired from competitive chess, will spend three days at the tournament which has attracted more than 800 of the Commonmwealth’s finest chess players from 28 countries, including over 25 Chess Grand Masters to further the Kasparov Chess Foundation in South Africa,” said Dr Brian van Zyl, Commonwealth and South African Open Chess Championships convener.

Bringing to South Africa the Kasparov Foundation, which works with schools around the world to promote the study of chess as a learning tool, will be one of the long lasting benefits of hosting the Commonwealth Chess Championships in the country, said Van Zyl. The R250 000 prize-money on offer will be spread over the largest number of Commonwealth recipients. According to Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World General Manager, Clifford Ngakane, the long-term educational spin-offs from the tournament were one of their main reasons for sponsoring the event. “Not only is the 2013 Commonwealth Chess Championship completely sold out, it is also the biggest open chess tournament to be held on the African continent,” said Ngakane.

Minister of police warns against violence and intimidation NCEBA DLADLA THE Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa warned South Africans not to resort to acts of intimidation, violence and killing when they are dissatisfied with service delivery. The country has witnessed serious acts of violence including murder during some of the protests. To show their commitment to end this lawlessness and total disdain, SA Police have a combined total of 118 years’ imprisonment on convictions since the beginning of the year under their belt. The 118 years imprisonment resulted from successful prosecution of 15 people. The heftiest sentence was handed to one accused in Gauteng, who received a sentence of 40 years imprisonment. These were arrests of perpetrators charged with various criminal acts including murder, damage to property, lawlessness and public vio-

lence from January to June this year, said the Minister, adding that most of the arrests were effected during illegal protests which also targeted foreign nationals and looting of their shops as well destruction of various municipality offices. During the same period, over R40 000 fines were issued to these perpetrators. “We want to highlight this point and commend our police officers because there has been this misconception that those who are arrested during illegal gatherings and violent protests are never convicted or even walk free after a court appearance. The statistics above indicate the opposite. “Working together with the National Prosecuting Authority, we are now beginning to see a real sting on those who break the law. We hope it will send a message out there that whilst we respect the right to protest, we shall not tolerate any lawlessness or anarchy,” said Mthethwa. The minister urged law abiding citizens to come forward with information in helping trace

Supply Chain Management Division strike called off NCEBA DLADLA THE strike by members of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Supply Chain Management Division in Harrower Road was called off on Friday, said Municipal Acting Communications Director Marthie Nel. According to Nel, the decision to call off the strike was reached after successful negotiations between municipal leadership, unions and the striking workers. “The usual services offered at the Supply Chain Management Offices at Harrower Road, Port Elizabeth are therefore

available again from Monday 8 July,” said Nel, adding that the municipality wished to apologise for the inconvenience caused. Meanwhile, municipal spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki announced earlier that the Nelson Mandela Bay Task Team formed by the members of the Mayoral Committee led by Corporate Services Portfolio Chairman, Councillor Wandisile Jikeka, was working very hard to end the on-going strikes that could be crippling service delivery in the municipality. Their task, according to Mniki, was to interact, and mediate in all the strikes by municipal employees.

some of these provocative elements. He said, “As we have seen on many occasions, many protests have been accompanied by serious provocations, intimidations, public violence and even elements of criminality. As expected, when police arrest the perpetrators at the scene, usually nobody claims responsibility for these actions as such rendering the investigations very difficult, particularly in securing convictions in courts.” While government recognised the democratic rights of any person to express their grievances, whether through a public protest or any other legal gathering as stipulated within the labour laws, such rights however, do not imply that those who do not want to participate in a strike must be intimidated, beaten and their properties destroyed, according to the Minister. Mthethwa said police had the capacity to handle public protests. He said they were guided by clear policies on how to put in place appropriate, effective operational strategies and systems.

He emphasized that in 2011 the Ministry of Police passed the Public Order Policing policy through which the SAPS is now standardizing the training of the public order policing unit, as well as enhancing its human and physical resource capacities. Howevere, he tressed that whilst the policy guides police on operational deliverables, protesters’ conduct remains crucial in this regard so that we avert any potential tensions. During his Budget Vote in May this year, the Minister informed the nation that during the 2012/13 financial year, 12 399 crowd-related incidents were responded to and successfully stabilised, including 10 517 peaceful incidents such as assemblies, gatherings and meetings. Unfortunately, of these incidents, 1 882 were violent incidents and police effected 3 680 arrests. “We have now introduced a mandatory Public Order Policing training curriculum that is intended for new recruits as a means to develop a support base for the first line of response to public order incidents,” he stated.

Services installed for housing in Khayamnandi NCEBA DLADLA NELSON Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Benson Fihla, turned the first sod and officially handed over the site to a contractor to mark the start of installation of services in Khayamnandi, Despatch last Thursday. The Metro Municipality will install services on 1 005 sites, which form part of phases 3 and 4 of the housing development planned in the area. “The project forms part of a bigger services installation project in the same area, in preparation for a housing development,” said acting Communications Director Marthie Nel. According to Nel, through this project, the municipality will deliver houses that have running

water, sanitation and an integrated stormwater drainage system. This multimillion rand project forms part of the greater installation and improvement of infrastructure by the municipality to support the growing population of the city. The Executive Mayor, otherwise known as Oom Ben, told members of this Ward 41 community that his municipality was excited about the project, and that the project was a structured way to permanently deal with the poor sanitation that residents had to endure for many years. He added that the Khayamnandi services installation project was only one of many projects already started or in completion across the City. “We are currently busy in areas like Wells Estate and NU 29 installing services for housing delivery,” said Oom Ben Fihla.

VWSA and POPS Foundation keep the needy warm NCEBA DLADLA THE Self-Help and Resource Exchange (SHARE), a social development organisation assisting the needy in KwaNobuhle and KwaLanga areas of Uitenhage, has received warm clothing to benefit its people during this chilly winter season, thanks to the POPS Foundation, a non-profit-making organisation (NPO) from Port Elizabeth. The clothing delivery was received by SHARE’s Nominise Gogo. According to POPS Foundation Spokesperson Xenny Brown, the foundation has been watching with admiration the workings of SHARE which has been responsible for numerous community projects and has become well-known and respected for its unwavering commitment to improving the lives of the less fortunate. He added that SHARE continues to im-

prove poor people’s lives notably via its Show Of Hands Volunteer Programme where Volkswagen South Africa (VWSA) employees and their families invest their time and skills in their upliftment programmes. According to Brown this had led to POPS receiving a trailer full of warm clothing from VWSA. He added that POPS was in return going to distribute the clothing to help a number of destitute and needy people around Nelson Mandela Bay to beat the chilly winter season. “The clothing we received will enable us to clothe a great many destitute and needy folk this winter, in diverse areas like Veeplaas, Motherwell, Joe Slovo and Aloes, among others,” said an upbeat Brown. He thanked VWSA Stakeholder Relations Manager Nkosinathi Clay and the Community Trust’s manager at VWSA Uitenhage Main Plant, Vernon Naidoo who both made the donations possible.

Cikizwa Saul from New Brighton in Port Elizabeth. I was diagnosed with asthma and tonsillitis when I was twelve years old. In 2009 I started experiencing backache and headaches and was later diagnosed with high blood pressure. I went to the clinic for treatment but in 2010 I overheard people in the taxi talking about Gotha products. I stopped the taxi at the Pick n Pay centre and bought Gotha spray and sprayed it on my back and rubbed it in. I also sprayed it in my mouth. At home I washed my swollen feet and sprayed my feet. Within three days I experienced no more pains and my blood pressure was normal. I advise people to buy Gotha products. They are excellent products and you will see the results. Go forward Gotha Health. I am Siphe Mfihlo from Whittlesea (Queenstown) now residing at Orange Farm (Gauteng) My situation was beyond redemption before I learned about Magogotha health products. I had exasperating stomach problems, my face was covered with something like dandruff, which was embarrassing to appear in public. I read about this Gotha health product in a newspaper and visited one of their stores where I bought Ostrich Oil Soap, Re-gen Skin Cream and Herbal Tea blend. I utilised this product for a while and within three weeks there was a massive change in my body and to my face. I value the product and I recommend it to the nation or for everyone with the same problem. Thank you for making a difference in my life and keep up the good work and for making us proud of your Gotha products.

My name is Siqhamo Mnyazi. Last year I injured my shoulder when I was playing football with friends. I experienced a lot of pain; I couldn't even sleep the first night. My radio was on Umhlobo Wenene FM and I heard about the Gotha Health products. I went to the pharmacy to buy the Magogotha twin pack. I used the Aloe spray regularly on my shoulder. It was unbelievable. Just 3 weeks and I was healed. I will suggest the Gotha products to any person with a sport injury. Gotha products work 100%. I recommend the Gotha product, thank you GOTHA HEALTH.

My name is Vuyiswa Gwaqu from Siya Street, Joe Slovo in Port Elizabeth. One day I was cleaning my yard, when I felt a sharp pain in my spinal cord. The doctors diagnosed me with stress, arthritis and tonsillitis. It was very painful. I heard people talking about Gotha Products on the radio and early the next morning I took a taxi to a Gotha shop in the Pick n Pay centre. I bought a Twin Pack and Aloe Spray. I used the products and after just two weeks I could see the improvement. Then my husband passed away and I didn't have enough money to buy the products. It was a very stressful time, but then I bought the Herbal Tea blend and the stress was gone. Forward Gotha! Forward. Carniboost + Hypermag - Twin pack is a

combination of Magnesium and L-Crnitine. Magnesium is an essential mineral for staying healthy, it improves muscle function and prevents insomnia, constipation, heart attacks, hypertension and migraines. Eunice Tokwe from Kwazakhele in Port Elizabeth. Previously I had a job in a restaurant, but had to stop working due to my knee problem and high blood pressure. I couldn't walk for long distances and it was difficult to stand for any length of time. As time passed I heard people on the radio speaking about Gotha Twin Pack. I visited one of their branches in Dasi, accompanied by my grandchildren. They had to carry me to the top of the stairs. I bought the Twin Pack and Aloe spray. I drank the tablets and drops in the morning and applied the spray to my knee. I have been using Magogotha products now for five years and honestly, I can walk again without any assistance and I have no more pains in my knee. I do all the cleaning at home myself and there is nothing I cannot do. Furthermore, my sister had blisters on the back of her ear. I also gave her Gotha spray. Within seven days my sister was completely healed and the blisters disappeared. When I go for checkups even my high blood pressure is normal. I will use Gotha Products till the end of my life.

My name is Tornado Khetho from Lusikisiki in Ngobozana location. I injured my knee playing football with some of the guys in my community. I heard about Gotha Health. The Umhlobo Wenene FM Breakfast Show BEE co-host is showing his immense talent and versatility in the release of his single “Ayiyiyo le ndlalo” featuring the beloved Port Elizabeth duo Sdudla noMathousand. This House Music single is getting much air-play at UWFM with this radio station getting the exclusive rights to the song at the moment “This album has been inspired by many things; some of which include the outcry

from Sdudla noMathousand that I record the song. At that time it was just the instrumentals that I had created,” said the DJ Popularly known as Pastor. From there other songs came in, and by now they have finished 20 to choose from for the album. Pastor who released his debut album in 2008 has worked with many household names such as Dj Lova and Point 5. It is, however, with this forthcoming album that he believes he has delivered his best. “Many people who have had the opportunity to hear some of the songs have been asking when this album is coming out. And now I say, it is finally coming, and they will realise that it has been worth the wait,” said the enthusiastic Pastor.

NMB pugilists could vie for national titles in their respective divisions NCEBA DLADLA A NUMBER of Nelson Mandela Bay boxers could find themselves challenging for the highest prize in the national professional ranks - the national titles, in the not too distant future. And that augurs well for the region which used to be known as the Mecca of boxing in South Africa. High on the list is Eastern Cape Middleweight champion Makhosonke Zwengu of KwaNobuhle. A top rated Middleweight contender in the country, Zwengu is occupying the number one spot, which means that he is the mandatory challenger for KZN South African champion Christopher Buthelezi. Port Elizabeth’s Masixole Botile lies at number 6 in this division. Unathi Jacobs, also of KwaNobuhle is rated at Number 6 in the country’s Cruiserweights. This means that champion Daniel Bruwer may choose to defend against him when he

took a voluntary defence. But it is in the Light Heavyweight division that Jacobs’ stakes are high. In this division, the fighting police official is ranked at number three for Tshepang Mohale’s title. With KZN’s Wiseman Dlomo stripped of his national diadem because of his failure to renew his boxing licence after numerous reminders to do so, Boxing SA (BSA) Director of Operations Loyiso Mtya has recommended that BSA Ratings Committee approve the top rated boxers Anton Nel (Gauteng) and KZN’s Hein van Bosch to contest for the vacant heavyweight title. That gives local lad Ivan Strydom, the EC Heavyweight champion lying at number 5 in the division a closer possibility of challenging the national crown. Though No.2 rated SA Welterweight contender Mziwoxolo Ndwayana is from eRhini, he boxes more in Nelson Mandela Bay and the region would like to see him challenging Tsiko Mulovhedzi for the title. Waiting in the wings is Anelisa Gungqisa, a Walmer township pugilist who belted at

There is no hurry for hot prospect Anelisa “Sugar Ray” Gungqisa number 6 in the Lightweight division after dispatching highly rated Zola Tunywa from East London recently. “But, we’ll need 2 to 3 fights before we could even think of fighting for the national title,”

said Gungqisa’s trainer Caiphus Ntante. Lusindiso Siyo is at number 7 in the Junior Bantamweight division while Simo Mbande could consider himself lucky for keeping the number 10 spot in the bantamweight.
