This was said by SANCO’s Regional Human Settlements Officer Simphiwe Dayimani on Monday. Dayimani was reacting to the evictions that took place in KwaNobuhle last week; where at least five families found themselves without homes - owing to their houses being sold, allegedly without their knowledge. One of the affected residents, Nomathamsanqa Magwa (55), claimed she bought the house in Rebe Street but found out that the house also belonged to a Mr Lupondwana” under whose instruction the sheriff of the court, accompanied by police, forced her to vacate the premises. Magwa could, however, not produce the Title Deed when asked to do so by Express Indaba. Pandemonium broke out when local residents refused to let the sheriff gain entry. “Fully armed police with bulletproof vests beat us -

edge of their families,” said Dayimani, adding that the process was rotten to the core and it needed a fullscale investigation. “While the investigation continues, we’d like those people who have been evicted to remain in their houses until the investigation is completed. “In the meantime, we would like the Minister (Sisulu) and the MEC (SaulAugust) to hold the evictions in abeyance.” Furthermore. said Dayimani, “As SANCO, we’d like to register our utmost disappointment with the way the police dealt with the issue in Rebe Street, KwaNobuhle. “ Our understanding is that police are not supposed to touch a thing when accompanying the sheriff to do an eviction. What police did is unacceptable!” said Dayimani. Police spokesperson Sgt Majola Nkohli confirmed that the sheriff called police for assistance in executing three evictions when they met violent community resistance. “Stun grenades were used to disorient a crowd that was going amok inside the house at Rebe Street, “ said Nkohli, adding that the police contained a volatile situation and the sheriffs simultaneously evicted the occupants,” said Nkohli, adding that the police would like to warn residents to refrain from such unlawful actions. . Motherwell Urban Renewal assessed NCEBA DLADLA NELSON Mandela Bay Municipality Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) Chairperson Councillor Jimmy Tutu is satisfied with the work that the Motherwell Urban Renewal Programme (MURP) has done so far, but a lot more could still be done, he said.

Cllr Tutu was speaking during his oversight visit last Friday to the Motherwell Projects with fellow councillors and MURP officials to check on the success of service delivery - progress made, challenges faced and solutions being implemented. “A lot of work has been done to improve the lives of poor people in Motherwell through the Urban Renewal Programme. For that we’re satisfied. “We feel, however, a lot more can still be done with much efficiency and quick turnaround,” said Tutu, adding that he was aware that the launch of some of the projects had

been delayed. The Motherwell Urban Renewal Programme is a Presidential Node dedicated to improve the lives of Motherwell residents in the areas of Local Economic Development, Habitable Human Settlements, Improved Social Development, Motherwell Business Development Centre and Job Creation. One of the projects, the Thusong Centre, is almost complete. Work is in progress inside with the strong palisade fencing on the outside almost complete and the CCTV Cameras having been installed. This, according to Tutu, would assist in reducing crime in the area. The Business Development Centre, he said, was assisting young people with information on how to start and grow small business as well as access to Information Technology. “Progress has been made. Many gravel roads around Motherwell have been tarred. Jobs have been created. But we could still do more,” said Cllr Tutu.

Jewellers hope to leave rich legacy INDABA REPORTER BLACK goldsmiths making hand-crafted fine jewellery isn’t something you see very often. “This type of business is very rare for black people,” said Mbulelo Singapi, Managing Director of Golden Touch Manufacturing Jewellers. This medium-sized business in Church Street, Uitenhage hand-crafts distinct, custom-made jewellery pieces for individuals and corporates. For Mbulelo and Dan Singapi, an uncle and nephew who are co-owners of the business, Golden Touch Manufacturing Jewellers is more than a business – it is a continuation of a family legacy. Mbulelo took a leap of faith when he left his job at Statistics South Africa. “It wasn’t an easy decision to walk away from a job that pays well and comes with benefits to become an entrepreneur,” he admits. However, when you find your passion in life, you have to follow your heart and that he did. He discovered his love for jewellery-making while helping out his father in his business. “We love what we do and hope to leave the rich legacy that we inherited for the next generation,” says Mbulelo. The beginning of a legacy In 2009 Peter Singapi and his brother Dan, who is a qualified goldsmith, established Golden Touch Manufacturing Jewellers. The pair were a good match as both had extensive experience in making jewellery. Dan worked for Ritco Jewellers and Peter honed his skills while working for a private jeweller.

After his father passed away Mbulelo made a decision to join Dan in the business in 2010. Today their success is evident – they are respected in the market and compete with multi-billion rand companies in the jewellery industry. However, the competition doesn’t scare them. They’re confident about their brand, the quality of their products and they have a competitive advantage. The company prides itself in that no two pieces of jewellery will ever be the same. In 2014 these partners joined The Hope Factory’s mentorship programme and have recently graduated from the business development course. Mbulelo explains, “The Hope Factory was a life-saver to our business. Before we joined, our financial books were in a mess but I’m happy to say that now the situation has changed for the better. We feel more empowered after having been a part of The Hope Factory’s programme.” Like any other business, Golden Touch Manufacturing Jewellers has faced its share of challenges. The company has missed out on big international opportunities because it couldn’t get funding from institutions that offer these services. In 2012 Mbulelo, attended International Jewellery London - a jewellery fair - and received an order for R1 million to supply samples to a potential international customer. Unfortunately it lost the contract because the process to approve applications took such a long time. “The personnel in these funding institutions were sending us from pillar to post,” he says. However, he wasn’t ready to give up so easily and he’s a keen advocate of government.

Mbulelo and Dan Singaphi at their workstation in Church Street, Uitenhage. “Since 1994, black people are now part of the mainstream economy. We need to commend our government for uplifting our people, especially in business, He says. The company has since employed the services of a marketing company to help it reach international markets. “If the company gets funding, the future looks very bright. We want to empower the youth by training them to become goldsmiths. Dan’s skills must be passed on so we have more black goldsmiths in this country,” he says. . Police warn of crime hotspot at Kempston, Harrower Roads

Parents need to identify school governors for School Governing Bodies

LIZEKA TANDWA

REPORTER

POLICE have started handing out pamphlets to motorists warning them about an increase in car vandalism at the corner of Kempston and Harrower Roads near the Life Mercantile Hospital, which are well known crime hotspots. Police Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said criminals in the area are now targeting female drivers and stealing their jewellery, handbags and cellphones while the latter were waiting at the busy intersection. “We have been inundated with reports by female drivers whose belongings had been stolen in the area. We urge motorists to be careful while waiting at the intersection and keep vigilant of anyone suspicious approaching your car.” Janse van Rensburg said while they are now openly patrolling the area to de-

ter criminals, they are warning motorists to keep their doors and windows closed in the area. “These criminals snatch the motorist’s property while the car has come to a halt and then they run off through the Durban Road and the Holland Park area. We are investigating several cases. “We plead with motorists to ensure they also protect themselves and their property.” Rene Scheepers on Facebook reported a black male with white “painted” face, who tried to grab her friend’s necklace while they were standing at the traffic light at Mercantile Hospital. Another Facebook follower, Larné Delport, said she had also been a victim when an unidentified person tried to open her passenger door at the Kempston road rtraffic light “Luckily it was locked. When I asked what they wanted he replied, ‘a lift’,” she said.

IN view of the forthcoming SGB elections in March 2015, parent communities should identify suitable candidates to serve their schools as governors for the next three years. This is one of the messages that the local branch of the National Association of School Governing Bodies wants to get across to parents as part of their recently launched initiative, in association with churches, to restore the moral values of learners in schools, amongst other aims. They recommend that candidates should be persons of integrity who are respected parents in the community. Ideally they should possess the skills and knowledge to deal with, amongst others, budgets and finance, knowledge of the maintenance of buildings and grounds and appointment of staff. They must be prepared to adopt a constitution, sign a code of conduct and adhere to it and support the principal and staff in carrying out their professional responsibilities.

The SGB promotes the best interests of the school and strives to ensure its development through the provision of quality education for all learners at the school. They must also assist in raising funds for the school. What Governing Body members can’t expect is that they will be able to: (a) Get paid or rewarded for their efforts; (b) Take over the running of the school’s finances; (c) Be the principal’s boss; (d) Fire the teachers they don’t like; (e) Sit in on team selections; (f) Decide which pupils should have which teachers, or which teachers will teach which classes; (g) Sit in on classes to see how teachers teach; (h) Get a discount on school fees; or (i) Decide which children from the community will get into the school. . In support of this initiative to raise awareness about the importance and role of SGBs, Port Elizabeth Express is publishing informative articles on SGBs on its website at www.pe-express.co.za. – REPORTER

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION INVESTIGATING

Angry parents want school principal removed THE parents of the children at Mzamomhle Special School in Uitenhage are up in arms against the Department of Education to investigate their allegations of maladministration, corruption, sexual harassment and financial mismanagement against Sipho Bodlani, the principal of the school. Parents of the school for the mentally retarded and physically challenged children had an urgent meeting with members of staff on Thursday February 5 to inform the media of their frustrations. “The principal, Bodlani, who is also a church leader, would leave school and learners unattended - without informing members of staff - to do his church duties - during school hours,” said one parent. According to the parents, there is no order at the school. There are countless break-ins and vandalism with nobody being arrested. The principal, according to the parents, is supposed to be on suspension, pending investigations into the allegations levelled

against him, but was inexplicably running the school with a remote control. Government funds were allegedly being abused. No financial report is coming forth from the School Governing Body because “the principal is manipulating some of the SGB members.” Currently there is no food for the children and no money for petrol to allow for their excursions and sport events. According to the parents, the Department of Education in the Uitenhage district knows about their plight. They claim alsu to have informed the Bhisho administration - without success. “Enough is enough. We want the principal out of these premises. This is our school! This is our children’s future at stake here!” said angry parents. “The Department of Education is giving Mzamomhle Special School over R1 million rand per annum and would like to ensure that those funds were spent wisely for the

benefit of the children of the school,” said provincial education spokesperson Mali Mtima. Mtima said according to the SA Schools Act, the School Governing Body must administer funds in conjunction with the School Management Team. “We are therefore investigating all these allegations through the Internal Risk Management Committee. We are also sad to note that our investigations are being delayed by certain individuals who are obstructing the rule of law. But, we are certain we’ll get to bottom of our investigation and sort out the problems,” said Mtima, adding that they have also noted that members of staff were divided into two groups, one siding with the principal and the other against him. Bodlani told Express Indaba that allegations levelled at him were “all lies coming from teachers who did not want him to say ‘no’ to wrong doing”. “Those are all blatant lies hell-bent on

character assassination. We had a meeting that was called by members of the community in the presence of Cllr Andile Gqabi. Those that accuse me could not support their allegations with facts. Instead they left the meeting. I can tell you now that I am back at school. I started on Tuesday after the meeting on Monday.” According to Bodlani, in a stakeholders meeting held at the school on Tuesday, where representatives of the ANC, PAC, COSATU, DA, and the Department of Education Uitenhage District were present, it was also discovered that blatant lies were spread to tarnish his image. “There are divisions here. Some people would do anything to see me out of the school for their own selfish ends,” said Bodlani. Bodlani confirmed that the provincial Department of Education has appointed the Risk Management Team to do its own investigation.

More cases of card fraud reported ANOTHER person has come forward claiming that she was victim of card fraud after a report by the PE Express last week over the ongoing problem of bank and credit card fraud in the Metro. Lindelwa Eugenia Dinga, who banks with African Bank, said she was defrauded of around R7 000 in December. She said there needed to be more security checks by banks to ensure against criminal behaviour. She has no idea how the fraudsters got hold of her banking details.

Dinga said she was a victim of a similar case to of that of Xolisile Trongo who had been defrauded of R3000 from his credit card in January and suspected it was an inside job. PE Express reported last week that Trongo, who also banks with African Bank, said he was awakened by an SMS notice on January 18, stating that he had withdrawn an amount of R1 169. “The first thing I did was locate my wallet. I could not believe it, because my card was still in my wallet,” Trongo, a barman at Walmer Country Club, said. The next day, another R1 594 was with-

drawn from his account before he could alert his bank to the problem. Trongo said while he usually received notification detailing where and when he had withdrawn money from his account, he had received no confirmation of location when the money was stolen from his card. African Bank has since reimbursed both Trongo and Dinga. Dinga said while she appreciated African Bank returning her money, she needed to know who the culprits were so the situation could be averted. “Who is to say that these criminals won’t use my card again? Six year-old dies after being knocked down by car NCEBA DLADLA MEMBERS of the South African Police Services (SAPS) in Port Elizabeth arrested a 41-year-old man after a 6-year-old boy was knocked down and killed by a motor-vehicle in Kwazakhele on Monday afternoon. According to SAPS PE spokesperson Constable Mncedi Mbombo, Amyoli Kralakrala, who was in school uniform, was knocked down by a Siyaya Combi in Seyisi Street, Kwa-

zakhele around 3.15 on Monday. He died on the spot. Police arrested a man for culpable homicide. According to the police spokesperson, the suspect was also without a valid driver’s licence. “A 41 year old man was arrested and will appear before the Magistrate in New Brighton Court on Wednesday (today) facing charges of culpable homicide and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence,” said Constable Mbombo.

the incident and the helicopter from Madzikane-KaZulu in Mt Frere was arranged to take him to Hospital. “We are devastated. He has played such a role in promoting culture. We wish him a speedy recovery, ” said Phangwa. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Edith Mjoko of Mt Frere cluster confirmed the accident stating that she was still waiting for detailed information. Eastern Cape department of Health spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo refused to comment stating that the family instructed that no-one must comment on Saba’s incident.

formation and why can’t these people be found?” said a distraught Dinga. African Bank media spokesperson, Louise Brugman, said credit card fraud and theft remain an industry-wide problem saying, “The bank generally reimburses clients when they are victims of fraud, if the investigation outcome is in favour of the customer.” . PE Express reported last week that no comment could be obtained from African Bank at time of going to print. This was, however, not due to any fault of African Bank, as emails sent to them for comment were not addressed correctly.

DA opens office in KwaZakhele REPORTER DA provincial chairperson Veliswa Mvenya and its Eastern Cape provincial leader, Athol Trollip, opened the newest DA constituency office in KwaZakhele on Monday.

DA Member of Parliament, Ncaba Bhanga, at the offices the party openend in Njoli Square, KwaZakhele, as part of forming a new constituency in Nelson Mandela Bay. PHOTO: THEO JEPTHA

The Ngqura constituency in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro comprises the areas of Zwide, New Brigton, KwaZakhele, Motherwell, KwaDwesi, KwaMagxaki and Blue Water Bay. “It’s an open secret that the DA has set its electoral sights on the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro,” said Trollip. This municipality was on Sunday described by DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane as a sinking ship. Trollip said in a statement there can be a no more apt metaphorical description for the city. “The Southern African coastline is littered with shipwrecks, and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro has for all intents and purposes become another shipwreck statistic. “Port Elizabeth is a city of two faces. One which projects an image of modern and pro-

gressive society and the other an image of poverty, refuse strewn squalor and dysfunctional street lighting that allow crime to reign with impunity in the black and brown communities, out of sight from tourists and affluent citizens. “This tale of two cities simply must be turned around and all the citizens of Port Elizabeth should be given equal access to basic services and the townships must be transformed into suburbs too,” said Trollip. According to Trollip, the establishment of this DA constituency with a constituency office in the historic Njoli Square is “the first step in the DA transforming this former ANC stronghold into a free, democratic zone where the DA will contest for every single vote from amongst voters that have become disillusioned with the ANC and its woeful record of non-delivery, nepotism and corruption. “The DA is not establishing a ‘task team’ to achieve this: we established a fully-fledged constituency in this area in June 2014 after the last elections. These elections showed just how close the DA is to winning this metro. Today marks the beginning of our campaign to win PE in 2016,” said Trollip.

KwaNobuhle parents commit to their children’s reading INDABA REPORTER THE Nal’ibali reading-for-enjoyment campaign called on all parents and caregivers at the Kwanobuhle Shopping Centre last week to make reading and storytelling with their children one of their New Year’s resolutions. Encouraging them on their literacy journeys, the campaign provided both adults and children with special commitment pledges to sign. “Far too many children lack informal and regular encounters with stories and storybooks at home and in school,” explained Dr. Carole Bloch, director of the Project for the Study of Alternative Education in South Africa (PRAESA), which is driving the Nal’ibali campaign. “This is concerning, because children who have enjoyable storytelling and reading experiences at home are more likely to be motivated to read. Reading aloud with children, in particular, is known to be one of the most important

activities for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually need for learning to read.” Building on its current series of “Story Power” billboards and Public Service Announcements to motivate adults to share stories and read with their children, the campaign has made the pledges available to all South Africans in the form of special “Story Power” pacts. The pacts can be downloaded from the Nal’ibali website and include a list of ideas for young and old on how to make reading and storytelling a part of everyday life. “From regular visits to the library, to sharing stories in the evening at home, anyone can adopt these easy-to-do resolutions to help build their children’s language and literacy skills in enjoyable ways,” says Arabella Koopman, Nal’ibali Content Development Manager and former teacher. “This is important given the evidence we have that reading for pleasure is more important than either wealth or social background as an indicator of success at school.”

Ethiopian Orthodox Youth in a good fight NCEBA DLADLA THE Calvary Station of the Ethiopian Orthodox Youth in Kwazakhele have vowed to work hard to lure the youth back into the love and care of Jesus Christ, the Lord and Saviour. said Sindiswa Boloti. Calvary Station’s youth coordinator Boloti, said the Kwazakhele and New Brighton youth belonging to the Calvary Station that worships at BJ Mnyanda Primary School took the resolve to dedicate their time and energy to spread the work of God to the

youth. “Led by our church steward Mlamli Noqoli, we met our fellow brothers and sisters, the youth of Topiya, the Order, during our clocking recently and looked back at 2014, the year we realised brought so much blessings to us young people - in very many ways, “ Boloti said, adding that they then decided to thank and praise God all year round by being the instruments of His worship. “We, at Calvary, challenge young people in all church denominations to stand up and be counted in the fight against illiteracy, poverty and crime, “ said Boloti.

Young isiXhosa writers given more time to enter for Puku Story competition BUDDING isiXhosa authors have until July 24, to submit entries for the Puku Story Competition. The competition is organised by the Puku Children’s Literature Foundation, which will be hosting the Puku Story Festival in Grahamstown from February 19 to 21. Winners of the Puku Story Competition would have been announced at the festival, but feedback from partner organisations and schools was that the deadline for entries should be extended to allow entrants more time to work on their pieces, said Elinor Sisulu, director of the Puku Children’s Literature

Foundation. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, September 8, which is International Literacy Day. Profiles of the winners and their work will be published in a Nal’ibali Reading-for-Enjoyment supplement. Puku took the decision to give young writers more time in consultation with the sponsor REDISA (Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa), and Nal’ibali, the national reading-for-enjoyment campaign, which is supporting the competition.

REDISA chief executive officer Hermann Erdmann says “We have sponsored this competition because we want to promote improved literacy in mother tongue, not only for the education success of children but also to convey important environmental messages about preserving our planet.” The competition invites young people to write in isiXhosa on environmental themes. REDISA will be working with Puku to help young isiXhosa speakers to unpack and understand environmental concepts in their mother tongue. “This will serve to help them to get excited

about preserving both their home language and the environment,” said Sisulu. “For teenagers to write about the environment they have to understand environmental challenges,” adds Erdmann. “We were thrilled by the entries that we have already received and these will remain in the competition,” says Sisulu. The young writers who did manage to submit their entries by the earlier deadline of January 15, will receive book vouchers. “We feel that they must be rewarded for their efforts and we will be in touch with them,” said Ziyanda Gysman. – REPORTER

Fears and tears after housing deals went sour PE Express Indaba Reporter NCEBA DLADLA spent some time with KwaNobuhle residents hearing the bitter cries of people losing their homes owing to a programme of buying and selling that happened a few years ago. The (allegedly unscrupulous) deals resulted in monies exchanged with agents and lawyers. And now, people are without homes.

Nosimilo Jacobs (32), Sindiswa Ndayi (74) and Nompumelelo Jacobs (51) are spending sleepless nights to prove that the latter did not sell the house to a certain Nombulelo Stuurman. Now, someone else claims to have bought the house at Ntshenge Street.

Gogo Neliswa Ndongeni (80) is also fighting a battle to defend a house she might lose in Kasibe Street.

Mlungisi Nghona, 53, (right) seen with his wife Virginia, is crying foul over his family’s home being sold. He claimed he could not even get help from legal aid.

Themba Jack is going solo a sound PE has never heard NCEBA DLADLA THEMBA Jack is going solo and Port Elizabeth music lovers are promised a new sound. Themba, a member of the band Modern Tribe which took the city by storm a few years ago as the New Afroteens, has announced that the band has decided to split, because members had to go their separate ways in pursuit of individual goals. This has paved the way for the multi-talented music genius, the only son of antiapartheid activist and businessman father Mkhuseli Jack and mother Karen, to follow his heart and present “Indie Pop” something different to the jazz, rock and reggae that PE is renowned for, worldwide. “I’ve got my own sound. It’s different and unique. It’s something that’s never had before; but those that have heard it already like it. For a change I am not leading with the guitar,” said Themba without revealing much, adding that plans were afoot for the release early next year of an album he’s producing with guys from Johannesburg where he spent some time lately. Themba was available to perform at gigs whenever his services were required. He would hire a band to perform with him. “It was a sad breakup. We had an exciting journey as a band, releasing albums and performed with the best talent music had to offer. “But, because we were still young and with different individual plans which had to do mostly with education, we decided, amicably to disband,” explained Themba. This journey helped them work with the great music producers like Hugh Masekela, Lawrence Matshiza and Alex Kuze of the famous Afroteens, to mention but a few. Modern Tribe also performed with the late Puff Johnson and they were featured in HHP’s Respect Show, Morning Live, Hectic Nine9 and also SABC 2 soapie, Isidingo. Themba thanked the support he was getting from his parents and took the time to urge parents to continue to support their children in pursuit of their dreams.

Volkswagen ups the stakes in the small car segment REPORTER

puts of 55 kW. Standstill to 100 km/h takes 13.2 seconds and top speed is 171 km/h. This engine returns a combined fuel consumption of 4.7 litres per 100km while emitting 108 g/km of carbon dioxide. The aluminium five-speed gearbox in the up! was specially tuned for the its three-cylinder petrol engine. The gearbox weighs just 25 kg including transmission fluid, which makes it one of the world’s lightest gearbox in this torque class (the gearbox also comes with indicators for the recommended gear and the engaged gear in the instrument cluster). Two derivatives are available: Take up! and Move up!. Both are competitively priced and offer a high level of standard equipment. A raft of safety features including ABS and four airbags are available as standard features.

VOLKSWAGEN is launching a small car in the A00 segment. The award-winning up! will be introduced below Volkswagen Polo Vivo and Polo, which have been the top two best-selling passenger models in South Africa since 2010. At 3,540 mm in length, 1,641 mm in width and 1,489 mm in height, the up one of the smallest four-seater cars on the market. Its overall length consists of short body overhangs and a long wheelbase of 2,420 mm. Thanks to these dimensions the turning circle of the up! is an unusually compact 9.8 metres. Use of space inside the car is exceptionally good, with space for four adults. This is due to the wheelbase, which is one of the longest in the segment, combined with an engine that is mounted well forward. The 251-litre boot is also significantly larger than is typical in this class. When the rear seat is fully folded, cargo space increases to 951 litres. The up! has a large bootlid, which extends right down to the bumper. This so-called hybrid bootlid consists of three basic layers. Its outer skin consists of a transparent glass element. The bootlid is opened by pressing a button in the handle beneath the Volkswagen logo. Powering the up! is a new generation of three-cylinder petrol engine with an out-

Volkswagen up! is available in six colours, namely Candy White, Mayan Blue, Sunflower Yellow, Tornado Red, Light Silver Metallic and Deep Black Pearlescent.

The sponsorship will see the tournament rebranded as the Castle Lager Super 14 Club Championship and includes match day clothing and equipment, valued at R5000, for the first place winner of

the tournament. “This really is a great opportunity for us and we are so pleased to welcome Castle Lager as the naming sponsor for the Super 14 competition,” said PE Metro Sub Union chairman, Stag Mitchell. “We knew that there would be challenges in starting a new competition of this sort and funding is always a challenge, but it is something that we felt needed to be done and we had faith that local business would come out in support and that is ex-

Things started to fall apart when SUBS strikers failed to convert goal scoring opportunities. SELBY MADIKANE FANS saw what was described as the most spectacular game when Black Chiefs locked horns with Real Aces in PEEFA VW Community Trust Premier League game at KwaDwesi Sports fields on Saturday. From the recent 2-0 loss to Young Teenagers, Black Chiefs shared the spoils 1-1 with the high-flying Aces.

IT was a do-or-die game when Dodgers edged out City Lads 1-0 whom they hosted in their slaughter house in their NEBFA Sedgars Sport Premier League clash on Saturday. The return of Dodgers Head Coach Khaya Kaiser Mpati had borne fruit to his side. Mpati said, “It is going to be tough in the second phase of the premier league. We do not want to lose our title. Teams will see us clawing our way back. We are fully prepared for any side.”

However, Aces were looking to collect three points because they drew 1-1 with All Stars. Hillside cruised to a hard 2-1 win over Young Idols. All Stars succumbed 2-1 to United Brothers. It was painful to Pain Killers when they were hammered 3-1 by Young Teenagers. It was crunch time when Real Lions earned a hard fought 3-2 win over Black Arrows. Young Aces fired on all cylinders despite going down 2-1 to their neighbours Peace Lovers.

Roaring Tigers were not vicious in their 2-0 loss to Bush Bucks. City Defenders drew 1-1 with Red City. Other NEBFA Sedgars League results:

Boxing licensees must register in time to avoid embarrassment NCEBA DLADLA NELSON Mandela Bay Boxing South Africa (BSA) Service Provider Mthunzi Mapitiza has urged boxers, trainers, managers, promoters and ring officials that include referees, judges, ring announcers and medical practitioners to renew their licences before the final date of 31 March. This, Mapitiza said, could avoid a situation his regions and the Bufallo City Municipality counterpart found themselves in, because of licensees who did not renew their licences until it was pretty late. The exercise, according to Mapitiza, could have embarrassed BSA Eastern Cape.

Explaining, Mapitiza said his region held an Eastern Cape heavyweight title fight between Unathi Jacobs and Sithembele August on December 14, the day after the Buffalo City Municipality had Donovan Luff engaged Vusumzi Mlindwa for the same title. “In other words, we declared Sithembele August champion after he KO’d Unathi Jacobs whereas BSA EC Service Provider Phakamile Jacobs had already declared Luff the champion for beating Mlindwa on points,” said Mapitiza. This was because, Jacobs, who was the EC Heavyweight champion did not renew his licence until the title was supposedly vacant, hence the Luff- Mlindwa fight. Meanwhile, Jacobs, at the advice of his pro-

moter Mbulelo Mfama (who also renewed later) paid for the licence on the eve of his fight with August and assumed that he was still the champion. BSA administrator asked Mapitiza to let the tournament continue for sake of promoting the sport and Mapitiza obliged. August won the fight. But, on being told of the fight result in East London the Walmer-based boxer, Mapitiza said, accepted being ranked number two below Luff who remained the champion in the BSA Ratings. “Instead, August suggested that he be given an opportunity face Luff in the ring in a fight to detemine the ultimate EC Heavyweight champion,” said Mapitiza.

Manchester United is untouchable SELBY MADIKANE NODEFA VW Community Trust Premier League log Manchester United set their sights on the league prestige trophy. United continued where they left off when they won 2-1 over Khayelitsha Stars at Jabavu Stadium on Saturday. Stars were not pushovers as they fought gallantly with United. But United showed that they were made of sterner stuff. Jamaica Stars played to a 1-1 draw with New City Stars with City Friends also drawing with Young Callies. In another entertaining clash Golden

Chiefs also shared a 2-2 draw with Temptations. Stokes United walloped Highland Spurs 4-1 in a one-sided game. City Style trailed Black Aces 3-1 . Bucs overcame the brave Acemates SELBY MADIKANE SPIRITS were high in both sides when Royal Bucs dug deep to beat the brave Central Acemates 2-0 during their SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Saturday. Having lost their key players to Highbury and NMMU, Acemates were hard to crack, thus taking the game to Royal Bucs. Acemates’ experienced skipper Kwanele Mkolo kept things tight at the back. Bucs

midfielder Siyabonga Chikoya Matwa headed home the first goal of the game. Acemates looked as if they were going to come up with a goal but Bucs’ solid defence kept their counterparts strikers’ at bay. At the final stroke of the game Bucs young promote Nkosikhona Nogwaru Smile unleashed a volley that beat Acemates goal stopper to make the final score 2-0. Camper United striker Lukhanyo Mbandeni failed on many occasions to beat Showvillage goalkeeper in their goalless Motherwell derby. Young Ideas had a difficult assignment when they edged out Callies 1-0, with Asanda Matsitse Makana scoring their winning goal. Lion City registered an easy 5-0 victory over the unpredictable Ghetto Stars. The on-form Fairview Rovers kept their hopes of taking the honours alive following their 2-0 triumph over Motherwell Academy. Saders back to their winning ways SELBY MADIKANE REAL Crusaders redeemed themselves when they earned a sweet 2-1 victory from their neighbours Shining Stars in their ZWIFA Ntando Transport Premier League at Zwide Stadium on Sunday. Following their recent dismal string of poor performances, Saders secured a 2-1 win over Morning Stars last week ago. The two wins boosted the morale of Saders players. Morning Stars suffered a 3-2 loss to Strikers United. Gal City dropped a valuable three points in their bid to win the league iwhen they lost 1-0 lto the improved Golden Aces. Manchester City, affectionately known as Amaramba, whacked Sophakama Stars 4-0. Having given a good account of themselves,

Camper United lost 2-1 to Kuyasa United, while Zwide Pirates added more worries to the struggling Real Dodgers which they beat 2-0.
