Residents unite to bury girl NCEBA DLADLA

C

OMMUNITY members last week united to help the distraught father of a young girl, who was presumably murdered, to give her a decent burial. The Mother’s Gift, a NPO from KwaNobuhle, joined forces with a local funeral undertaker and caring residents to bury Amahle Dastile (17) whose body was found five days after she went missing on December 22. She was returning from a trip in Cape Town and was not seen since. According to police spokesperson Lt Col. Priscilla Naidu, Asemahle’s decomposed body was found on December 27 in a church yard in Matshaka Street. Police established her identity at the end of January. Her father German Dastile (69), who is unemployed, could not afford to have her buried. Mother’s Gift volunteers Marinda Swaartbooi, Beaula Ndi-

ka, Siphokazi Mzimane and Nomvuselelo Zamxaka as well as community leader Nontuthuzelo Skweyiya learnt about the family’s struggle and decided to help them give her a decent burial. “But what struck us the most was the abject poverty in the RDP house. A lot needed to be done there,” said Mama Sheila Isaacs, founder and head of the Mother’s Gift. Mama Sheila’s husband Dr Frank Isaacs started the ball rolling with a R1 000 donation, the volunteers offered money, started buying the family food, painted the house and put in carpets. They cooked and served mourners with meals during the funeral. Mama Sheila thanked Intsik’eQhagqiwa Funeral Undertakers boss Zwai Nyiki who was touched by the plight of the family and offered a free service. “I want to thank these people who helped me whilst I was in the dark cloud. They lifted a heavy load from my shoulders,” said Dastile.
