Zwartkops Conservancy Mother well Environment Club presents Mr and Miss Enviro Club concert SELBY MADIKANE ZWARTKOPS Conservancy Motherwell Environment Club presented its 2014 Mr & Miss Enviro Club Concert at Motherwell Library Hall on Thursday. However, the event turned into a resounding success as members of the community and parents came into the library hall in their droves. Before the event started candles were lit to pay tribute to South Africa’s late former president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, and to HIVAIDS fallen victims. There were lots of festivities such as drama, dancing and singing to entertain the attendees. Pearl Jonas of the Wildlife Environment Society of SA (WESSA) commended the club for keeping the children off the streets and as such “the children keep their environment clean”.

Jonas said, “I am very delighted to see the young people committed to raise awareness of keeping their environment clean. This project prepares our youth to be responsible citizens. If we inculcate the right values and norms in our children at the right time, we are surely going to have disciplined caring future community members.” The participants were asked simple questions about the environment by the judges who were Jonas, Julia Maya (Motherwell Library staff member) and Kwanele Sinxo (NMB Municipality employee) The results of the 2014 Mr & Miss Enviro Club Concert are: Junior girls: 1. Phumelele Xoli; 2. Siyahluma Ncandana; 3. Yibanathi Ruselo Senior girls: 1. Asemahle Ntabeni; 2.Athule Ruselo; 3.Ayaxolisa Ntabeni Senior boys; 1. Unathi Maniselo; 2.Makhi Ntabeni; 3: Lukhanyo Ntabeni.

Winning contestants with Portia Zenzile (Zwartkops Conservancy Motherwell Enviro Club), Pearl Jonas(WESSA), Jenny Rump (Zwartkops Conservancy), Julia Maya (Motherwell Library), Kwanele Sinxo (NMB Municipality) and Patricia Ntabeni (Zwartkops Conservancy Motherwell Enviro Club).

Stolen merino sheep recovered, owner sought NCEBA DLADLA ARE you a sheep farmer who have lost some of your sheep in the Port Elizabeth area in the last few days? Well, the Stock Theft Task Team is looking for farmers’ assistance in the identifying of merino sheep that were recovered in the early hours of Sunday morning in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth. This came about after the New Brighton vis-

ible policing members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) pulled off a Ford Courier Bakkie. “The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei. Upon further investigation, he said, the members found 14 merino sheep under cover on the bakkie, nine of which were still alive. According to W/O Seekoei, the legs of the sheep were tied up with wire. He added that a tattoo mark was visible but very vague.

“Some of the sheep have yellow plastic tags and green plastic tags in their ears,” said W/O Seekoei, adding that one of the sheep had a green and metal (possible stud tag) in the same ear. He said police were looking for any farmer that could possibly identify the sheep to contact the Commander of the Uitenhage Stock Theft Unit, Capt. Gary Du Randt. . In an unrelated case the Despatch Detectives are calling for community assistance in the investigation of a house robbery.

This follows after three suspects, armed with a firearm, allegedly kicked a back door open of a house in Khayamnandi Despatch in the early hours of Sunday morning and demanded the “Stokvel” money. According to W/O Seekoei, the suspects allegedly tied up their victims in their bedroom, took an undisclosed amount of cash and some personal belongings and fled the scene in a silver Toyota Corolla. Anyone with information can contact the Despatch Police Station, said W/O Seekoei.

Entrepreneurs graduate and aim to grow sustainable businesses A GROUP of 45 established entrepreneurs from the Nelson Mandela Bay, who are enrolled in The Hope Factory’s business development programme, have graduated. They have completed a 17-week course which focuses on financial management and personal and business development. Starting and running a financially viable and sustainable business in South Africa can be quite a daunting task as, on average, only one in five businesses succeeds. This is largely due to a lack of business knowledge, training or experience. Entrepreneurs need support and through The Hope Factory’s business mentorship programme, these 45 individuals have experienced just that. Peter Gossman, a Business and Finance facilitator, says this comprehensive course equips the students with skills that are vital

to their businesses. “Many of our entrepreneurs who have gone through our programme have said that The Hope Factory has saved their business and helped them to become profitable and sustainable,” he says. When Rene Sauls, owner of Picnic Basket, joined The Hope Factory she had no business experience. With the help of her business mentor, Anthony Matroos, they began applying the basics principles of business management, building basic business blocks to ensure the business became profitable. “In the first few months the business showed a loss, but has slowly started to make a profit after we implemented a business strategy with a heavy focus on profitability,” says Matroos. Lungisa Lutshaba, owner of Lungisupreme Beverages, says, “I have learned that understanding the business is key to its suc-

I can now make calculated decisions while shaping and reviving my business.” Another happy graduate is Simphiwe Ntlantsana, the owner of Ntlantsana Accountants and Auditors. He says, “This is an awesome programme as it helped me to understand the many aspects of running a successful and sustainable business. “We as entrepreneurs need to take full advantage of the programmes available as they indeed give hope to our business men and women.” – INDABA REPORTER

Meet our Christmas Christmas Baby Baby Competition winner UZANENKOSI Matshanga is the PE Express Indaba Front Page Christmas Baby for 2014. Five-month-old Uzanenkosi, a bubbly little boy, is the firstborn child of Xolisile (31) and Pricilla Tshabangu (30) of Motherwell. Uzanenkosi, the darling of his parents who are both employees of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, is a playful child who does not cry unless he is hungry, according to his mother Pricilla, who is an accountant at the metro. Pricilla said Uzanenkosi feeds on breastmilk and he loves it to bits. Although Pricilla was thinking of introducing Uzanenkosi slowly to other baby foods, she was, however, happy that he enjoys breast-milk. “Uzanenkosi is a happy child who is always playful. The only

time he cries is when he is hungry. I breast feed him and after that he is happy again. He loves mommy’s breastmilk,” a proud Pricilla said. She teasingly added that though Uzanenkosi recognises and plays with his father Xolisile, an Asset Auditor at the municipality, she thinks that Uzanenkosi loves her more. “I think he loves me more probably because of the food I give him,” she chuckled. Pricilla admitted, however, that the little boy, who is his father’s lookalike, loves sitting on his father’s lap and watching football on television with him. “Uzanenkosi notices things in the house and he loves toys especially Sophie The Giraffe. That’s his favourite,” said Pricilla.

Police give early Christmas to KwaNobuhle children NCEBA DLADLA CHRISTMAS came early for the children of KwaNobuhle as members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) gave them party packs in celebration of the festive season on Friday December 12. About 1 200 children from across the

KwaNobuhle wards spent the day with the Best Medium Police Station in the Eastern Cape, the Kwanobuhle Police Station. The initiative started in 2012 and gained momentum over the years, and this year the theme “A Cop is My Friend” was embraced by children, who were dancing and ululating on seeing police vehicles. “We are nurturing our relationships with

children and simultaneously encouraging them not to be scared to report crime to the police,” said Station Commander, Colonel Zolani Xawuka. “We went to the streets so as to assure children that our presence should make them feel safe and secured,” said Col Xawuka. According to Col Xawuka, SAPS members

donated party packs for the special guests, the children. It was an exciting day for the children with KwaNobuhle Community Police Forum (CPF) Deputy Chairperson, Ntombekhaya Mona showing her hidden talent of storytelling. The happy children danced and laughed as they found the police to be very friendly.

all the little ones’ faces, Mdana told PE Express Indaba. According to Mdana, because of the poverty that’s ravaging many families in Motherwell, especially in her area, some of the toddlers she taught were not going to get such a Christmas treat at home. “I usually do Christmas parties for the children in this community. This year, since we started the creche, we felt it must be an opportunity for our children to clebrate with us. And, they loved it,” she said adding that the parents of the children thanked her and her school committee for the good gesture.

Speaking to the young players, Young Aces sponsor and Legadima Managing Director Jan van der Walt highlighted that the youth should dedicate their time to constructive things. Van der Walt explained, “I am urging the youth not to waste their time on trivial matters. They must take sport seriously because in sport there are opportunities. I want to appeal to you children that you must refrain from doing crime and taking drugs. Crime does not pay.” Ronele van der Walt advised the youth to differentiate between priorities and trivialities. Ronele, who is Jan’s wife said, “The most important thing in the life of a child is education. Sport is a career that is full of risks that can jeopardise the future of the individual. With education, the serious youth can go the extra mile in their endeavours.” Aces President Amos Mathenjwa thanked the Van der Walts for making the function a success. President Mathenjwa said, “I want to

thank Jan and Ronele van der Walt for helping us in the logistics of this successful function. “I want to remind the community that our fundamental aim in establishing this club was to fight crime within our community. In essence people like Jan and Ronele do help us realise our dreams. I want to thank the parents for trusting us when we empower their children with life skills. “Lastly, I want to thank KwaMagxaki High School for accommodating us to hold this function and Madoda Vicks for his association with Jan and Ronele of Legadima Company.” According to Mathenjwa, Legadima Company donated to their club tracksuits, kit and ttraining equipment. German teacher hands over kit to community club SELBY MADIKANE IT WAS all smiles on the faces of KwaDwesi All Stars FC players and officials when a German teacher donated kit to their U/15 team at KwaDwesi Sports Grounds on Tuesday. Kristoff Wiemhoff, whose club is SV Ofenerdiek in Germany, is a sports teacher at Jarvis Gqamlana. He made the generous donation to the club after having been told about Stars’ challenges by Chairman Mziwamadoda Mzi Ndungane. Wiemhoff said, “I met Mzi and told him that I was looking to join the team in the township. It did not end there, as he told me of his club’s challenges. “I then decided to lend my hand to Stars’

U/15 team that has nothing at all. I can see that these boys are very serious about football and that made me decide to come to their rescue.” Stars’ Chairman Ndungane thanked Kristoff for the kit. “I am elated because the kit is going to make a huge difference to my boys. We have challenges in our club but our Local Football Association (LFA), Port Elizabeth Football Association (PEFA), with the limited resources at their disposal, does a lot to help us to overcome our challenges. “This donation will also lift the spirits of our players and will keep them off the streets. I want to thank Kristoff for the kit that he donated to us. We will take good care of the kit so that the next generation will be able to use it,” said the visibly excited Ndungane.

Nelson Mandela Bay fans enjoy feast of furious boxing matches NCEBA DLADLA NELSON Mandela Bay boxing fans enjoyed a feast of furious boxing matches sanctioned by Boxing South Africa (BSA) under Service Provider Mthunzi Mapitiza at Babs Madlakane Community Hall in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage at the weekend. Boxing promoter Gladys “Noforty” Tsenene’s 10-rounds Eastern Cape JuniorFlyweight title fight between local champion Mzwabantu Dabaza and challenger Asandiso Mancapa of Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening ended in two rounds.
