Vibrant new suburb for PE

N Thursday night some Port Elizabeth residents went to sleep in Fairview, only to wake up in Pinelands on Friday morning.
Far from any sinister abduction, this is owing to the birth of a brand-new suburb. The long awaited approval of the new Pinelands suburb only became official just before the weekend, but the area already boasts its own identity and is a hive of development activity.
According to Jaco Rademeyer, owner principal of Jaco Rademeyer Estates, it is wonderful to see development in an area that has been vacant for many years. “The new suburb offers housing ranging from around R650 000 to R1,2 million and it is encouraging to see that the area has already developed its own character.” Land owner, Capeco, moved for the establishment of the new suburb to separate this pocket of land from the reclaimed section of Fairview. “Capeco acquired the land from a Belgium investor’s group and decided to give the area its
own identity,” said Marc Crocker, operations director for Capeco South Africa. Pinelands is hugged by Circular Drive towards the east and south, and stretches in a northerly direction to Seringa Road. Many townhouses, duet houses, houses and flats have already been built, but development here goes beyond the residential scope. According to Crocker, approval has already been given for the construction of a church in the new suburb. “A piece of land earmarked for community use, will soon house the Walmer Grace Church,”
The proposed new private hospital – for which approval has recently been passed after years of litigation – will be situated in Pinelands at its Oak Road entrance, off Circular Drive, opposite Henri Botha Street. Rademeyer said the construction of the new private hospital would most definitely have a positive impact on property prices in the area. “Not only does it bode well for property values in Pinelands, but also for the surrounding suburbs, including Lorraine and Charlo.”
