ORT ELIZABETH Express, the biggest free local newspaper in the Eastern Cape, is even bigger from today.

A total of 100 000 copies will be distributed to postboxes in homes across Port Elizabeth -– 10 000 more than in the past.

According to Tasmia Ismail, general manager of EP Media and Die Burger, the increase in print order was necessitated by the rapid housing developments in the met-

ro, as well as the growing retail market.

“This is proof that we have been and always will be the preferential local medium of choice for both our readers and advertisers,” said Ismail.

PE Express is a publication of EP Media which has a footprint throughout the East-

ern Cape with 7 titles publishing 280 000 free copies on a weekly basis.

Publications cover the area stretching from Bizana in the east to Jeffrey’s Bay in the west with the inland towns of Mthatha, Butterworth and Uitenhage also being covered.

LIZEKA TANDWA MUNICIPAL Manager Mpilo Mbambisa may be busy cleaning out his desk as negotiations with deputy mayor Bicks Ndoni for his alleged golden handshake are concluded this week.

According to well-placed sources in council, 17 charges related to poor performance, deviations of municipal agendas and dereliction of duty were brought against Mbambisa in a closed council meeting last week.

The council meeting was scheduled to discuss the released national treasury report.

Deputy Mayor Bicks Ndoni said during the council meeting, councillors expressed their frustration of Mbambisa.

Ndoni now has the task of negotiating a settlement with the metro boss. One councillor confirmed that Mbambisa will receive a settlement.

The source said Ndoni requested that council approve a settlement package which he would negotiate with Mbambisa.

“Ndoni said he wants to negotiate with Mbambisa to part ways amicably. We had a long debate and some of us said we do not want to sign a blank cheque to negotiations

with him when the metro already has a document of charges.

“We can’t take ratepayers along this route.

This will be the fifth settlement we have entered into and we were overruled,” said another councillor.

The source said 18 high ranking officials are said to be implicated in the national treasury report on the IPTS bus system.

Ndoni said there was a preliminary report commissioned by national treasury to audit firm Deloitte and Touche which has been submitted and which was noted in council.

“The report was not discussed further. Upon receiving the final report we will then act on recommendation,” added Ndoni.

Ndoni said part two of the report related to a viability study of the IPTS. “This will tell us if we need to drop the IPTS, proceed or modify.

“The roads and transport standing committee are dealing with the matter and they will be talking to experts, and comparing our bus system with others around the country,” Ndoni said.

Some previous Metro bosses who have received golden handshakes from the metro include Graham Richards and Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela..

Campaign needs decisive actions to deal with corruption REPORTER MAYOR Danny Jordaan made a clarion call that corruption must be decisively dealt with to ensure that a civil society initiated campaign dubbed “Take Back Our City” established in collaboration with the municipality - is successful.

Jordaan said the “Take Back Our City” Campaign was initiated by local Police and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) with the support and direction of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

On Saturday, August 29, activities under the banner of “Take Back Our Nelson Mandela Bay” took place at the Motherwell Shopping Centre.

Jordaan said in an effort to bring awareness to the campaign he travelled together with police and a squad of bikes to different areas around the Metro including Motherwell, Uitenhage and Zwide.

During a special council meeting, Jordaan made the call for the campaign reflecting on the swift actions taken thus far to deal with corruption in the municipality.

“This campaign demonstrates that the people of this metro would like to be part of the solution. In fact to make this city work, we need to work closer together and unite across class divisions and racial lines. Crime cannot be allowed to continue as if those of us tasked with the responsibility to lead do not care about the

well-being and circumstances of our people and their daily struggles. It cannot be allowed to continue,” said Jordaan.

Jordaan said the ‘Take back our City’ campaign must go beyond the realm of a crime prevention strategy. “It has the potential to represent our steadfast goal to regain ground lost due to crime, corruption, inefficiency and a lack of transparency that have caused a wedge between this local government institution and its citizens,” he added.

Mayor recommits to fight water leaks in metro LIZEKA TANDWA MAYOR Danny Jordaan has recommited the municipality to fight water leaks.

Jordaan was speaking at the launch of President Jacob Zuma’s War on Leaks campaign on Friday, August 28, with over 16 000 people in attendance at Dan Qeqe Stadium in Zwide.

Jordaan said he, together with Zuma and the minister of water and sanitation Nomvula Makonyana, had visited a house in Zwide where a family owed R70 000 in municipal water bills due to leakages.

“We have just been to a house where they told us that their water bill is just over R70 000. We know that that poor family can never pay that money. That bill is not the result of water used during the month but rather, water that is leaking during the month. In a sense, that bill is a reflection of the inability of the metro to respond to water leaks.

“We then expect the people to suffer as a result and to pay for the inefficiency of the metro.

We must apologise to the people that we are unable to respond to these challenges. That is a matter that we will take up. We are endorsing and supporting and recommitting the metro to fight against water leaks,” said Jordaan.

According to the municipal financial indicators, this year’s water losses cost the metro R300-million and the country R7 billion a year.

Zuma said through the Department of Water and Sanitation, they would train 15 000 artisans and plumbers who will fix leaking taps in their communities with Rand Water, as government’s implementing agent.

Zuma said the project will be run through a three-phased approach, identified for the recruitment, training and deployment of the plumbers, artisans and water agents over the project period. Zuma said they would train qualifying young people with Grade 12 or N3 with Math’s and Science as fitters and turners, welders, instrument mechanics and electricians.

The learners, who will be drawn from all nine provinces, will do repairs, retrofitting and replacements in various municipalities.

THE Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University officially opened its all new R116 million “green” Business School building at its 2nd Avenue Campus.

The building is the first in South Africa to receive an official Green Star design rating.

It’s also the first in the education or public sector to achieve a “4 Green Star design rating” by the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) making the Second Avenue Campus building an official benchmark standard for future building designs in South Africa.

7 Castle Hill’s Grizel retires CHANDRÉ MASOLING SHE will miss the children most of all says Grizel Hart, former curator of 7 Castle Hill Museum, following her retirement last month.

“I am very, very sad to leave, but due to retirement age, I had to go,” says Grizel.

She says it’s been only a pleasure working at the museum, as it taught her so much about the history of Port Elizabeth.

No 7 Castle Hill was established in 1825 as a Settler cottage, and was opened as an official museum in 1965.

The museum is set up as a typical

house and includes a play room.

“This is a special and wonderful place for the children, because here they can play and enjoy themselves.

I’m going to miss those children terribly.”

Grizel’s work included many levels of organisation in terms of research and planning.

Boardwalk are pioneers of female leadership LIZEKA TANDWA FORMERLY known for being a traditionally male-dominated industry, The Boardwalk are shifting gears with a successful 50% equal split between men and women in management positions.

General Manager of The Boardwalk, Brett Hoppe, said they are proud to have women holding some of the most powerful portfolios across the enterprise, including finance and information technology which have typically been male-dominated functions.

“Our exco boasts six women in key positions including Ayanda Kgwathe, who we believe is one of the few black women to be appointed as general manager of a five-star hotel in South Africa,” he added.

One of the leading ladies at The Boardwalk is IT manager Angela Rogers, who said she is pleased to see that the number of women in the IT industry has grown. “ I think the worst initially was that I would often go to functions and talks and be the only woman there. Fortunately, I am used to being

around men, but I think for them at times they were anxious to start a conversation at first.”

Originally from Johannesburg Rogers joined Sun International at The Mmabatho Sun. “I was based in Port Alfred and worked from the Fish River Sun. Here I looked after some of the units in the Eastern Cape before they closed down in 1999.

“I then started helping where I could with the project for The Boardwalk. In 2000 I travelled up and down the coast until I moved to Port Elizabeth to be based at The Boardwalk in June. I have been the IT Manager since December 2009,” she said.

Rogers said one of the problems in the Casino and Hotel industry is that there are seldom any women that apply for positions in the industry.

“I do believe we need more women in IT and especially in the Eastern Cape. When we have vacancies there are seldom any women that apply and we need to look really hard country wide to find ladies in support. We do try to ensure that we have a good split in the department and try to look for women too,” she added.

Rogers stands side by side with other leading ladies at the Boardwalk who have broken barriers in a male-dominated industry.

Among them is Chairperson of Emfuleni Resorts Bongi Siwisa, Director of the Emfuleni Resorts Nominise Gogo, Manager at The Boardwalk Hotel Ayanda Kgwathe, and Marketing Manager at The Boardwalk Nqobile Majozi.

Hope said though the empowerment of women has made great strides in the last decade, South Africa still grapples with women inequity issues far greater than those faced in other similarly globally competitive countries.

“Companies must have policies to ensure that women are recruited, retained and advanced to leadership. Programmes must be implemented to identify and nurture women for leadership roles and managers must be held accountable for promoting women,” added Hope.

Rogers said this can also be achieved by women in IT through hard work. “Even though it is seen as an ‘office job’ it is far from boring and every day is different – therefore depending on your approach you can learn new things virtually daily. Also always be open to change as this industry is always changing.”

Klawerjas­ kampioene Kaap toe HIER in Helenvale is klawerjas iets wat die mense diep laat konsentreer, nié ’n woord in ’n gedig of ’n popgroep se naam nie.

Al van 2008 hou klawerjas dié spannetjie – die jongste is 13 jaar oud en die oudste 70 – op die punte van hul vingers.

“Klawerjas is ’n baie interessante tog ingewikkelde spel,” vertel Willfred Fredericks, wie al ses jaar aan die Helenvale-klawerjas-klub behoort. Hy is nie bietjie trots op sy span nie. “Ons is die Port Elizabethligakampioen en kwalifiseer dus om in November aan die Klawerjas “Champ of Champs”-kampioenskappe in Kaapstad te gaan deelneem.”

Alice in Wonderland staged REPORTER THE Rother Swain Drama Studio will stage Alice in Wonderland at the Pemads Little Theatre in Belmont Terrace, Central from September 6 to 12.

In Wonderland the audience can meet some of Lewis Carroll’s outrageous characters, such as the Mad Hatter and the March Hare.

This version, adapted from the book, will also feature some characters from Through the Looking Glass and will have a few original touches for the child of today.

Roffe, the owner of Port Elizabeth travel agencies, Uniglobe XLBay Travel and Club Travel, who underwent two knee replacement surgeries last year, has just expanded her brand.

Although travelling is close to her heart, while on bed rest the business woman had plenty of free time to take up reading.

However, when her husband, David, purchased books about gems for his wife, he never knew she would use it as research for her new business venture.

“My body may have been restricted, but my mind was sharper than ever.”

Using her sharp mind, Gillian decided to open her own jewellery collection, making use of the gems and stones she had purchased over the years.

“I have always loved travelling and at least twice a year, we visit overseas countries and islands and I always have to bring a souvenir with me.”

Gillian could not pinpoint the reason for her souvenir always being a gem or a stone, said she found them fascinating.

“After reading the books, I took a look at my private collection and was truly shocked at

how much stones I had acquired over the years.”

Gillian decided to approach the then unemployed goldsmith Marnic Tate, to partner with her. The two have been talking jewellery ever since and their dream has now become a reality.

The jewellery collection, which will be open for public purchase from this month, has been named Bijou Exquisite.

In her private workshop Tate explained how grateful she was to Gillian for including her in this venture.

“I can now let my creativity flow. Gillian has been very accommodating,” said the goldsmith.

“She is very supportive and when she does something, she does it right,” said Tate.

Rose-Christie’s Mystery Ghost Bus tours, which are in their 15th year of operation, roam dark eerie streets at night.

The PE tour has amassed so many stories over time, that national ghost authors such as the late Pat Hopkins included several of them in his well-known book “Ghosts of South Africa”.

Rose-Christie has been key to providing ghost authors with ghost stories around SA, one of which was given to Hopkins regarding the story of Richly House - today ‘The Brazenhead’ – one of PE’s most haunted buildings.

A completely new story for PE is the Phantom Hitchhiker of Target Kloof, who seems to be the ghost of an accident victim who died along the bend at the bottom of the road some decades ago.

He is no mere ‘replay’ ghost however, but rather an ‘interactive’ ghost, much like the Uniondale Hitchhiker.

September entries now open TANYA VAN ZYL ENTRIES to become one of three finalists in August for the PE Express Miss Matric Dance 2015 are now closed.

The judges will go through all the entries we have received and choose the three finalists.

In the meantime, entries for September are now open and matric girls in Port Elizabeth have until 5pm on September 30 to become one of the next three finalists.

Judges will then choose 10 wildcards from all the entries we received and the public will have to vote for their favourite wildcard, which will then be the tenth finalist in this year’s Miss Matric Dance.

To enter each matric girl must upload her matric dance photo on our Miss Matric Dance competition page, which can be found on our Facebook page (PE Express Newspaper).

Garden Gate bids farewell to Doris after 34 years REPORTER GARDEN Gate Florist has paid tribute to one of its most dedicated employees, Doris Mralaza Mvela.

Florist Doris Mralaza Mvela of Garden Gate Florist in Newton Park, retired at the end of August.

Doris, who started working at the company in 1984, worked her way up from cleaner to one of the best florists in Port Elizabeth.

After 34 years of cleaning, watering, cutting and eventually arranging flowers Doris retired at the end of August at the age of 60.

She started her employment at Garden Gate Florist when the shop was still in old Main Street, North End and moved with them to their new premises at 89 Third Avenue, Newton Park.

Starting as a cleaner, she used to cut and change water for the flowers. As time passed by one of the employees, Rita, taught Doris how to arrange flowers. She honed this skill and specialised in posy and church arrangements.

When they said farewell, staff at Garden Gate Florist proudly stated that Doris was one of the best florists ever.

Cathedral of St Mary celebrates 190th birthday REPORTER HAVING been in existence for 190 years, the Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin is the oldest church in Port Elizabeth.

A number of activities are lined up for September 5 to 6 to celebrate the Cathedral’s 190th birthday.

Over the years the church has been playing a leading role in the formation of new parishes within the PE community.

In 1895 the building was gutted by a fire but

was rebuilt within a year, with money collected from people as diverse as the Cape Prime Minister, Cecil Rhodes, and President Paul Kruger of the Transvaal.

The new church building, which was far grander in style, opened for worship on September 6, 1896.

The celebrations will start with a Flower Festival from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, September 5, following the theme of “Praise and Thanksgiving”.

The public is welcome to view the arrangements on display, as well as watch the flower

demonstrations, listen to the organ and piano recitals - all while enjoying a cup of coffee and decadent sweet treats.

A flower market will also be set up for those wishing to purchase fresh-cut flowers.

Saturday evening at 5pm there will be a Taizé Celtic Worship Service led by the Rev. Rob Penrith in conjunction with the Royal Schools of Church Music Combined Choir.

On Sunday at 9am there will be a Service of Celebration and all parishes from the Anglican Diocese of Port Elizabeth will be sending representatives to join in this service.

Powerade gaan verseker dat niemand op die roete dors sal word nie met die drie waterpunte wat tot beskikking sal wees.

Daar word weer vanjaar ’n groot fees saam met die toer aangebied. Hansworse, voedsel en speelgoed-stalletjies, springkastele, trapkarre, “hotrod” en veteraanmotor-uitstalling en die Lorraine blaasorkes sal sorg vir groot vermaak.

Netcare Greenacres Hospital turns 30 REPORTER WHAT started out as Poli Clinic with 10 beds on 1 August 1985, turned into Netcare Greenacres Hospital, a hospital with only the best health care for their patients.

“When the hospital opened its doors on 1 August 1985, it had only 10 beds, a casualty unit with three resuscitation bays and a two-bed treatment room, a pharmacy and two theatres,” Botha explains.

Poli Clinic was taken over by Netcare in 1997 and today the hospital can look back with pride on how far it has come since those humble beginnings. “We now have 340 beds in the hospital, including 223 medical and surgical general adult beds, 23 paediatric beds, 15 obstetric beds and 19 day beds. We also have 35 adult intensive care beds, seven neonatal intensive care beds, 18 adult high care beds, as well as an emergency department with eight examination and four resuscitation bays.”

This hospital remains at the forefront of cardiac care, having completed expansions and upgrades to its cardiac facility late last year. Botha says a range of special-

ised cardiac services, such as paediatric cardiac treatment, is provided within the cardiac centre.

Glenda Paton is the longest-serving employee of the hospital and has worked there since the age of 25, when Poli Clinic first opened.

“For the first five years I worked as an assistant nurse. As the hospital grew, I gained experience working in the orthopaedic and medical wards. I still miss the interaction with patients, especially the elderly people. However, I know that the work I do now is also a vital part of the service we provide our patients,” Paton says.

“There have been tremendous advances in technology, such as much more sophisticated surgical equipment and techniques,” notes Dr Williams, who has been retired for the past seven years.

“We are about to embark on a further expansion project, which will see the main reception being upgraded and the addition of a coffee shop, doctors’ suites, a management suite and administrative office space,” says Botha.

“The hospital has grown from strength to strength over the past 30 years and we have no intention of resting on our laurels now. We look forward to further improvements and advances in patient care in the decades to come,” concludes Botha.

Let’s not pay too much attention to the fact that Paige is a player of colour – which in South African rugby at the moment is a major bone of contention. Let’s rather hope that coach Heyneke Meyer, who is closely connected with players who hail from the Bulls’ camp, has purely rugby reasons for this decision.

Unhappily, however, no matter which way one looks at it, this state of affairs is most unlikely to be entirely true. The pity in this case, as in all similar cases is that selection along these lines can never be truly right or honest. Which is why Meyer was unable to explain satisfactorily why Paige was preferred, at least as far as Hougaard was concerned. All he would say was “a guy like Paige has played really well in Super Rugby this year.” As regards Reinach, Meyer said, it had to be taken into account that he had been injured much of the season.

However, let’s move on with the hope, too, that if Paige is called upon to show his worth on the field of play, that he comes through the test with flying colours. There are always unlucky contenders in the selection of national teams, who don’t manage to make the cut. Two more who spring to mind are flankers Marcell Coetzee and Heinrich Brussow. But a World Cup played over almost a month can throw up all sorts of concerns in terms of injury – and who knows what could yet happen?

Perhaps the most intriguing of all the selections could arise yet from the possible veteran halfback pairing of Fourier du Preez and Morne Steyn. The latter, now playing all his rugby for Stade Francais in France, has scored more points for the Boks – 688 – than any of his rivals for the flyhalf berth.

Well, there you have it. Can the Springboks pull off a third World Cup? Kitch Christie’s team were favoured in the country’s first attempt after returning from isolation.

Nor did they seem to have a chance under the tutorage of coach Jake White.

So, why not? Go, Bokke, go!

All nominated candidates will need to possess the necessary skillset to fulfil their Trust duties and should as a minimum: • Have obtained a degree or equivalent qualification and have in-depth knowledge or practical knowledge of business management or structuring and community development; • Have an in-depth financial background in order to read or interpret the financial statements/results of both the Project Company and the Trust; • Have an understanding of Corporate Governance and application legislation; • Not occupy any political offices/office bearer eg. Minister or MEC or Councillor or public official; • Demonstrate prior exposure to a board whether through association or company or a trust where regular formal board meetings were held; • Have a deep understanding of community development needs; • Have no criminal record and be of sound mind and senses; • Be willing to commit time to the fulfilment of their duties and to receive any additional training; • Meet any additional mandatory requirements advised by Boqwana Burns upon receipt of nomination.

In making the final decision for election of the two (2) community trustees, we will ensure that the Board of Trustees consists of a mix of individuals who present financial, legal, strategic, community developmental competencies, and whom reflect the diversity and racial composition of the beneficiary communities.

Nominations will be accepted up until 23h59 on 5 October 2015 and any nomination received after this date will not be considered. All successfully nominated candidates will be interviewed during a two week period after the closing date and the highest scoring candidates will be undergo an election process whereby the Community will vote per hand electing their two (2) community trustee representatives.

Italian GP Preview ­ Monza AS the powers that be consider a plethora of changes to the sport it appears as if the traditionally passionate Monza circuit will not form part of it.

No one will ever mistake F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone as soft touch. Then again, you don’t take a racing series and turn it into the pinnacle of motorsport by being sentimental. When asked about the future of the Italian Grand Prix he frankly answered “what goes, goes.”

For now though the circuit which ran its first race in 1950 is still on the F1 calendar and the next stop for the 2015 season. The famed Monza circuit isn’t revered for its technical difficulty or for its delivery of explosive races, at least not lately. It is loved for its history and for the cherished part it has in the history of Formula 1 racing.

The devoted and fanatical Tifosi may be dreaming of a red car winning the race but the demands of this classic power circuit make that doubtful.

Step number one for the engineers will be efficient aerodynamics. To reduce the maximum amount of drag the smallest

rear-wing will be fitted, along with the slickest bodywork, in order to increase topspeed down the circuit three long straights.

A towering straight line speed however isn’t the be all and end all as braking for the circuit’s few corners is as significant.

“Braking has become the biggest thing at Monza. It’s very tricky to get that right,” says Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.

Ferrari team Principal Maurizio Arrivabene has cautioned fans not to expect too much this weekend and likened their chances of victory to “pulling a rabbit out of a hat.”

However, Arrivabene has confirmed that there will be no “super engine” for Monza but that the team may spend “some tokens” to close the gap to Merc. Ferrari’s last engine upgrade was made at the Canadian Grand Prix with a fairly lacklustre improvement being the result.

The start of Sunday’s race could play a big part. In Belgium, under the new start procedure, Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg dropped to fifth from second on the grid and Hamilton’s start wasn’t perfect either.

This, combined with the long run to turn

one, could put the Silver Arrows under pressure early on. If truth be told the only chance for an exciting Italian Grand Prix depends on the kind of start those in the second row can muster. If not, this will be another Mercedes victory bar any sort of unreliability.

Twelve months ago Nico Rosberg’s quest to win the world championship was on even keel with teammate Lewis Hamilton. Yet, despite a handful of wins and pole positions, in 2015 his chances appear to be shaky at best.

This year the German’s confidence has taken a knock under the onslaught of the Hamilton juggernaut. Consequently, there aren’t many who would legitimately give Rosberg a genuine shot at taking the title off Hamilton.

It’s up to the driver of the number 6 Mercedes then to mount a serious challenge against Hamilton.

And not just a challenge that is going to beat him this weekend but one that will force the reigning champion to seriously consider the possibility of a real threat from the other side of the garage.

Records tumble at night relay finale IT was a night of records at the final of the 2015 Town Lodge Business Night Relay last week at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Both the Men’s and Ladies’ relay team course records were beaten on the evening with Gamble Pharmacy Men’s team going unbeaten for the second year running after claiming the 17.5km course record in a blistering time of 57 minutes and 22 seconds.

In the well represented ladies’ category, it was the girls from Charlo Athletics Club that set the new mark, crossing the finish line in a time of 1 hour 18

minutes and 47 seconds.

Another impressive milestone on the evening was the Still Dreaming walking team of Andre Pienaar, John Gardiner and JC Stevens who wrapped up the season with their 7th consecutive win, remaining unbeaten over the past two years.

The Town Lodge Business Night Relay is a fun winter based monthly team building initiative considered to be unique to Port Elizabeth given the exciting 3.5km route within the stadium and grounds of the iconic Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The Series will return in winter 2016.

Premier League weekend full of high scores NMMU Madibaz returned to winning ways when they defeated Hearts 2-1 in a SCORE Energy Premier League match at The Valley last Friday night.

On the same night Central Acemates were too strong for NMB Municipality in beating them by 2 goals to nil on The Oval. On the Old Grey Sports Club ground Toshiba Old Grey thumped KwaDwesi Allstars 5-1.

On Saturday Warriors drilled a young Higbury side by 5 goals to 3.

PE Defence was no match for Callies going down 5 - nil on the Defence fields.

On Sunday Central Acemates rounded off a very fruitful weekend when they thumped Forresters by 4 goals to 1 on the Victoria Park Sports Club field. For Acemates Lwazi Sawula helped himself to a hat trick of goals where after Mayaya pulled a goal back for Forresters.

KwaDwesi All Stars needing to beat Callies in the final game to take the honours. Despite fighting back from 2-0 down at the break, KwaDwesi could only manage a draw at 2-2 by the final whistle, and in so doing handing the u/17 PEFA League title to St George’s for the third year in a row.

The u/11 and u/13 PEFA League titles have already been secured earlier in the season by St George’s and Callies respectively.

In the u/9 division the Hearts Lads beat Priory United by 1 goal to nil. After a sluggish start in the second game, the Priory Rangers raised the tempo after the break to win 4-0 against Callies Thistles.

The Callies Highlanders edged closer to the u/9 league trophy with a 2-0 win over St George’s Braves. The final league games take place on the weekend of September 11 where the 2015 league winner will be decided.

Sunday, September 6 sees the semi-finals of the PEFA Score Energy Knock Out Cup taking place in all age groups at various fields around the Metro.

Over 160 players from Callies, St George’s, Hearts and Priory converged on the Priory fields on Friday night to contest the finals and semi finals of the Priory Shamrocks FC Annual 7 a side Night Tournament.

The pool games took place from Monday to Thursday evening in a carnival-like atmosphere showcasing the talents of PEFA u/9 and u/11 soccer.

In a tournament first, much to the entertainment of the youngsters, each club also entered a Dads’ and Coaches’ team which saw Hearts beating Callies in the final.

The next Stock Car Race will take place on September 5 for the 5th out of 6 regional meetings.

The classes to compete are Beginners, Jnr Hot Rods, 1660’s, 2.1 Modifieds, Super Six, Hot Rods and American Saloons. The gates will open at 3pm, and the actual racing will start at 6pm. The race will take place at Victoria Raceway, Victoria Drive, Walmer. The track parking costs R20 per vehicle, and R50 for adults. Braai facilities and foodstalls will be available.
