OMMUNITY Police Forums (CPF) around the country are in the process of integrating a mobile application called “ttrumpet” into their system and it is on its way to Port Elizabeth. The managing team of the multi-purpose app has been actively working with the CPFs and Residents’ Associations across the country over the last few months to connect individuals in real-time with their communities, to syndicate information and to keep themselves and their families safe. In the Pretoria and Gauteng region, communities have actively come on board where the need to use technology as a channel to providing relevant community infor-
mation is growing. “We believe in empowering South Africans and providing local solutions to local problems. Our aim is to make a difference. We have the technology and have built a platform that I truly believe can do this and through our engagements with CPFs and Security Associations in PE I hope that the benefits will strongly be considered for use going forward,” said ttrumpet director, Charles Murray. The application, which was launched in South Africa in 2014, contains many features that will be of use to the CPFs, such as a tracking app and free ttrumpet-tottrumpet calls. It is currently available in 250 countries. “Our partnerships with the different CPFs and Security Associations are a step in the right direction as the communica-
tion channels created allow for constant updates on any suspicious movements in the area to help the relevant CPFs and Security Associations fulfil their roles better,” said Murray. The ttrumpet team is meeting with other CPFs and Security Associations across South Africa – including PE – to expand the use of the app. “The growing use of smartphones and the continuous expansion of social media, have given the ttrumpet platform the opportunity to evolve from a chat application to the advanced purpose-built platform it is today.” As an added bonus, ttrumpet has interconnected agreements with local companies and their own i-ECNS licences, which provide outcalls at the cheapest rates in the country and often-times worldwide.

Ttrumpet requires no connection fees or subscriptions. The app works with credits, which can be used to buy airtime and mobile data or be sent to friends or family. These credits can be purchased at www.ttrumpet.com . Unlike other communication applications, such as WhatsApp or Facebook, ttrumpet’s channels offer a single interface that deals with unlimited users. Users have the ability to filter and customise notifications, which leads to intuitive and structured posts that can easily be navigated. All posted incidents can be viewed on a map-view. The ttrumpet security channels also collect the events, enabling the administrators to view historical data and identify potential trends. Continued on page 5
