time during weekends and at night. “The roadworks are being carried out on one of the most heavily trafficked freeways in the Eastern Cape. This section of the N2 also carries a lot of local commuter traffic thus requiring careful planning in order to minimise traffic congestion and inconvenience to the public,” said Mbulelo Peterson, Regional Manager for SANRAL Southern Region. “SANRAL became aware that motorists from the western suburbs experienced acute

congestion on Friday, September 9, as a result of a truck that overturned between Cotswold and Stanford interchange. Unfortunately, the freeway also became congested on Monday, September 12, when the contractor had to close one traffic lane in order to complete an operation that was interrupted by the Friday accident,” he said. SANRAL regrets and apologises for any inconvenience caused during the implementation of this necessary road maintenance project. – REPORTER

THE NMB Municipality is tackling the lack of skills development within the Infrastructure and Engineering sector by rolling out an Infrastructure Skills Development Grant Mentorship Programme for unemployed graduates. This National Treasury funded programme will go a long way towards enhancing capacity and building a pool of resources for local government infrastructure delivery through training and registration with various built environment statutory councils. It will also professionalise and strengthen local government skills capacity for sustainability and delivery of infrastructure.

To date, the programme has yielded profound results at NMBM. In total, 43 graduates enrolled in the mentorship programme during Phase 1: 11 Electrical Engineering Technicians in Electricity and Energy; 6 Construction Project Managers (CPM); 6 Geographical Information Science Technologists (GIS) in Human Settlements and 20 Civil Engineering bursars in the Infrastructure and Engineering Directorate. Since the initiative started in 2013, 70% of the 43 young unemployed graduates will be completing the programme and obtaining their professional registration at the end of this year. Phase 2 will be rolled out in January 2017 and

will be extended to Electrical Technologists and Engineers, Environmental Scientists, Architects, Town Planners and Property Valuers. Speaking to the 43 graduates who are currently going through the programme, Infrastructure and Engineering Mayoral Committee Member, Councillor Annette Lovemore, said, “We are very proud of our Electricity and Energy Directorate for hosting this programme. Equally, we are extremely excited about the potential of the programme. This initiative is in line with this administration’s commitment to create opportunities and to deliver better services.” – REPORTER

nasionale tesourie gedoen. “Ek is positief dat ons dit gaan kry, omdat ons motivering daarvoor baie goed was,” meen Kayser. Inwoners se betrokkenheid by die ontwikkeling van die snelbusdiensstelsel is baie belangrik, het Kayser beklemtoon. “Die IPTS gaan terug na die mense. Ons is besig om ’n seminaar vir belanghebbendes te reël om hul insette oor die busdiens te kry,” het hy bygevoeg. Die seminaar word in Oktober gehou.

High level business conference for small businesses to be held REPORTER PROUDLY South African (Proudly SA) will host a high level business conference in Port Elizabeth on September 27, as part of its efforts to equip small to medium enterprises (SMEs) for growth and sustainability. This forms part of a nationwide drive supported by the Department of Trade and Industry, Productivity SA, Transnet and Absa Enterprise Development, among other strategic partners. “Proudly SA is of the firm belief that SMEs are the backbone of the economy, therefore support for local manufacturers, entrepreneurs and service providers remains our top priority,” said Proudly SA’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Hap-

Rano Kayser

py maKhumalo Ngidi. “Through interaction with high level speakers and captains of industry, delegates will gain new insights into local procurement issues, learn how to obtain business funding and develop their enterprises through various offerings available to SMEs,” Ngidi added. As part of Proudly SA’s service to the country and the local business community, there is no cost to attend the event. However, limited seats are available. The Port Elizabeth conference will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, corner Marine Drive and 9th Avenue Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth. The event starts at 8:30am for 9am until 12pm. Second group of penguins released after oil spill REPORTER THE Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and the Marine Rangers from the Addo Elephant National Park – South African National Parks (SANParks) - have released 72 rehabilitated African penguins back into their colony at St Croix Island last week, following a recent oil spill in Algoa Bay. This is the second group of penguins released by SANCCOB and SANParks after the oil spill that occurred in late August 2016. SANCCOB’s centre in Cape St Francis admitted a total of 92 oiled African penguins and 61 penguin chicks with the help of SANParks and the NSRI. A smaller group of 14 rehabilitated penguins were also released at St Croix Island after being approved for release by SANCCOB’s team. Juanita Raath, SANCCOB’s Rehabilitation Coordinator in the Eastern Cape, said, “We are extremely happy to release such a big group of penguins back into the wild today and give these individuals a second chance at life. With the current South African population numbers at just over 19 000 breeding pairs, saving

each individual penguin is crucial to the survival of the species. “We are thankful to all the partners involved in making this a successful rescue operation and to all the volunteers and supporters for standing side-by-side with us throughout the rehabilitation process.” SANCCOB’s team of staff and volunteers washed the first penguins on Sunday, August 21, with the last bird being washed on Thursday afternoon, August 25. The entire washing and rinsing process of each bird can take up to two hours, followed by a comprehensive rehabilitation programme. Penguins are only released once SANCCOB’s staff have determined that their feathers are waterproof, their blood tests do not show any signs of infection and that they weigh at least 2.8 kilograms. Each penguin also receives a special transponder micro-chip that allows conservation staff and researchers to effectively monitor the birds after being released. A number of washed penguins are still in SANCCOB’s care together with more than 60 penguin chicks that still need to grow into healthy juveniles before they can also go back into the wild. The African penguin is endemic to Southern Africa. It was once one of South Africa’s most abundant seabirds, but has suffered a massive population decline. Algoa Bay, where St Croix Island is situated, is home to about 60% of the world’s African penguin population. The exact cause of the oil spill is still to be confirmed by authorities investigating the matter.

THE best Chevrolet, Opel and Isuzu technician in the country hails from Port Elizabeth. Gawie Engelbrecht (30), of Williams Hunt, claimed this coveted title during the annual General Motors South Africa (GMSA) Top Technician Skills Awards. The runners up were Hendre Hulscher of Reeds N1 City (32) in the Western Cape and Sujit Munnisunker (47) of South Coast Motors in KwaZulu-Natal, who claimed second and third place respectively. The three top technicians were the last men standing after a total of 327 technicians across GMSA’s 132 dealerships participated in the first knockout round. This was followed by round two where 67 technicians competed for a place in the top 10. During the semi-finals the top five remained and they competed in the final round during two days of gruelling diagnostics and problem solving. Engelbrecht, who has been working for Williams Hunt Port Elizabeth for the past 11 years, described the competition as challenging and tough. “I just concentrated on fixing the problems. Throughout the competition I stayed focused and gave it my best, he said. The young man was also recently promoted to service manager, but said he remains handson in the workshop, often working long hours to diagnose vehicle issues. “Winning the competition and having your skills and abilities recognised is a huge honour. I must admit that I feel very proud of myself. Our Chevrolet, Opel and Isuzu customers are everything and they deserve technicians that are trained to the highest standard. Ian Nicholls, President and Managing Director of GM South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, congratulated the technicians for delivering

He said one of the company’s core values is putting the customer at the centre of everything they do. “The Top Technician competition is proof of this commitment to our customers, where the focus is on ensuring that our technicians meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. “Our technicians play a critical role in determining the level of satisfaction which our customers experience with their vehicles, said Nicholls. GMSA provides approximately 60 000 hours of regular and extensive training per annum for all service personnel. The top technician takes home a prize of R30 000 and the runners up receive R12 000 and R10 000 respectively. In addition the first and second prize winners jet off to Thailand in November, to attend the international Isuzu 1 Grand Prix.

NAF celebrates 10 years with a twist ZELDRÉ STRAUSS SWANEPOEL IT has been ten years since the dream of Billy Paulson to have a celebration of the arts in the northern suburbs of Port Elizabeth become a reality.

SSC_PE_EXP_3

The very first Northern Arts Festival (NAF) ten years ago took place in the Van Der Kemps Kloof and drew more than 12 000 people. In the following years the NAF was held at various venues, the biggest festival being the one held at Varsvlei in 2010 - drawing a crowd of 40 000. The annual NAF, which coincides

with Heritage Day, has, with its mix of music, arts and crafts, become a favourite among the community. “We as organisers pride ourselves on the fact that the festival has given exposure to a plethora of local entertainers and artists,” said festival director Billy Paulson. To celebrate the milestone of its tenth year, the organisers of NAF have decided to do it a bit differently this year. It will feature a short film festival and sports matches. “After nine years of doing the same thing, we have looked at feedback from the community and decided to make some positive changes. “The programme line-up consists

South African cars. Students from engineering, science, finance and even marketing backgrounds come together to design, build and drive the cars across the country. The challenge is hosted by Sasol as an exhibition of science and engineering, to show young South Africans what can be achieved with maths, science, engineering and technology (STEM).

The aim of the Challenge is to cover as much distance as possible, and every day the cars complete a set route on public roads, and if they’re able to, as many laps of an extra loop of road at the end of the day.

“The Sasol Solar Challenge offers university students an opportunity to develop new skills. The race is truly where innovation meets engineering excellence,” said Wrenelle Stander, Sasol Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Real Estate Services.

Teams include the current world solar champion, six competitive international teams and eight proudly

The teams will cross the finish line at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town on 1 October 2016.

Music artists such as saxophonist Andrew Young and a host of local musicians such as Miss Mona, PE’s Finest, S-MHA, Charmaine Allison, Heath Cliffe, Junant and the 2016 Sky’s The Limit Talent Search participants will be showcased,” Paulson said. Glitzy Fashion Week to showcase local designers REPORTER GLITZ, glamour and fabulous fashion is what the organisers of the Nelson Mandela Bay Fashion Week, which is taking place next month, have in mind. Mandela Bay Fashion Week vows to create a sense of hope and belonging for a city that is currently without fashion platforms. Beginning on October 6, through numerous shows over a three-day period, the first annual Mandela Bay Fashion Week grants Eastern Cape designers –both recognized and up-and-coming –a platform to expose their autumn/winter collections to the industry’s well established fashion houses, media and buyers. One of the three days will be dedicated to designers displaying their brands in a runway and pop up store format, for potential buyers and talent scouts to view or purchase. Apart from the fashion show, a conference on the opening day from industry leaders, will give aspiring designers business advice. The organisers, Brand Shack (Pty) Ltd, have selected the Tramways building in Port Elizabeth as a venue for this event. Brand Shack (Pty) Ltd’s owner and managing director, Llewellyn Williams, is commit-

ted to making this year’s production one that will allow Nelson Mandela Bay to trend both locally and nationally. “We are attempting to solve a challenge faced by Nelson Mandela Bay for a long time. Included are few or no platforms which in turn portray a lack of support offered to young fashion entrepreneurs in and around the Eastern Cape. Instead of losing faith in the Bay, we need to solve our own problems, by creating our own platforms like Mandela Bay Fashion Week,” explained founder Llewellyn Williams. Williams said that local talents are forced to seek opportunities in other centres such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, and even abroad. “This needs to change as PE has produced phenomenal designers in the past who have reached national and some even international platforms. Designers such as Laduma Nxokolo, Thabo Makheta, Laz Yani and Armand Dicker, have wowed the fashion arena with wonderful collections, but have done so in other geographical locations because of the lack of platforms available in Nelson Mandela Bay. This is the motivation behind Mandela Bay Fashion Week,” said Williams. Tickets are available at Computicket at R180 General and R1000 VIP. For more info visit www.nmbfw.co.za.

Fees Have Fallen – Urban Academy

Offer 50% sponsorship

When Urban Academy opened its doors four years ago, its main focus was to create opportunities for especially those that could not find entrance into government schools. Many of these students were accommodated and are still being accommodated from grade R to grade 12. The reality of Urban Academy's commitment to quality education and caring environment soon lead to an influx of students from all over Port Elizabeth. All key learning areas are extensively covered through a comprehensive and progressional curriculum, with a focus on higher order thinking and problem solving skills. The emphasis is on teaching and not bureaucracy. The main focus is on developing each learner academically- other aspects of their being such as social, emotional and spiritual are nurtured with equal passion to ensure a well rounded child. Being aware of the huge difficulties parents and young adults experience being unemployed, URBAN ACADEMY decided to take their commitment towards the community a step further - by equipping learners and parents with employable skills to enable them to overcome economic and social barriers. This would enable them to be in a better position to get employment and to be more competitive in the labor market. In partnership with the Retail School of Excellence, they have dedicated themselves to proactively participate in the transformation of our city. The Retail School of Excellence is an eLearning based training solutions provider. The purpose of this collaboration is to help those interested in a career in the retail sector, gain a SAQA and W&R Seta accredited National Certificate. The Retail School of Excellence also offers a wide range of part-time short courses for anyone wishing to gain a better understanding of some of the roles within the Retail and Wholesale industry. Urban Academy has invested towards the establishment of a digital learning centre at the school for those who don't have access to a computer or the internet - and are offering a 50% sponsorship on a SAQA and W&R Seta accredited National Certificate as well as 45 short courses.

WORLD LASER RUNBYEENKOMS

“Portugal was baie, baie warm.

ADVERTORIAL: POLYMER TECHNOLOGY AT NMMU

A highly soughtafter and unique qualification DO you love science and think chemistry is very interesting? Then you should consider studying Polymer Technology at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University! This will open the world of plastics, paints, rubber, foams, composites, adhesives and many more materials to you. It can also provide the pathway to a financially highly rewarding job and career. The opportunity to study paint and rubber technology is unique to Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), the only university

Faculty of Science

in South Africa to provide tertiary-level studies in these areas. Numerous bursaries are available for this qualification and graduates are highly sought-after by companies such as Continental, Goodyear, Aberdare cables, Bridgestone, Plascon and Volkswagen in the Eastern Cape. In their search for suitably qualified students, companies regularly contact the university looking for polymer-trained people, even from outside the Eastern Cape from areas such as Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, says Fanus Gerber, senior lecturer in Polymer

Technology at NMMU. He describes Polymer Technology as the manufacture, processing, analysis and application of long chain molecules. Industries that are totally dependent on polymers include information technology, aerospace, music, clothing, medical, motor manufacturing, building, packaging and many more. Chemistry forms the basis and starting point of Polymer Technology, but it also leans on other scientific study areas such as engineering and manufacturing. According to Dr Percy Hlangothi, the director of the Centre for Rubber Science and Technology at NMMU, the Polymer Technology programme is best placed at NMMU because Port Elizabeth is home to motor vehicle manufacturers such as VW, GM and FAW. These companies use polymers for a large number of car components, such as windscreens, bumpers, dashboards, seats, tyres and many more. The centre is currently undertaking research in partnership with REDISA to find novel ways of recycling tyres. Through this partnership, the centre also offers bursaries to undergraduate

students studying towards Polymer Technology and qualifications in chemistry. Polymer technologists are employed in the production and production management of manufactured articles such as tyres, cables, packaging material, textile fibres, moulded plastic products and paints, as well as the technical divisions of companies manufacturing these products. As training manager of Goodyear South Africa and learning and development manager for emerging markets, Eileen Gardner points out that the skills that are obtained in this training programme are ideally suited for the human resource requirements of technical positions in Goodyear. This diploma course entails two years’ full-time study followed by one year in-service training in industry. Academic entry requirements include at least a National Senior Certificate (grade 12) Level 4 (5059%) for Mathematics and Physical Sciences. For further information contact the faculty officer for Science at NMMU, Yvonne Tembo at Yvonne.Tembo@nmmu.ac.za or Fanus Gerber, Senior Lecturer in the Chemistry Department at Fanus.Gerber@nmmu.ac.za.

VERSKAF

BE HAPPY, YES U CAN HE IS BACK AFTER 5 YEARS OF SEPARATION

My husband left me and went to London with another woman for 5 years! I tried to bring him back, I visited priests and healers for help but failed. Ligan and Miss Jessica looked through the mirror and assured me that he’ll call within 4 days, and I’ll pick him at the airport. He really phoned and he’s return after 5 years! He accurately read my fortune (for R200 con-sultation fee) & told me all my problems without me mentioning a word. He even used a mirror to show me real-faces of people who were trying to pull me down. Ligan and Miss Jessica Maria and Jacob performed special-prayers for me, cleansed me from badluck & also gave me (happily in love again) powerful lovecrystals plus a special-ring to fix my financial problems. Four (4) days after prayers my husband was back home, asking for forgiveness. I am very happy, we recently reconciled! Like me, all clients I have been referring to him always got GUARANTEED RESULTS in a few days. FIND US IN RICHMOND HILL, around PE Call or whatsapp on 060 467 7153 / 078 335 5021 ONLY BY APPOINTMENT

My name is Genevivi from Willowmore, I am a single mother who lost hope and money to different doctors, and prophets. Early last year I was shocked when I saw my old friend driving an expensive car, he took me home, on our way home I ask him what had changed his life in such short time. He told me his secret. He gave me a magazine with an article about Mama Sheena. I never hesitated. I contacted her and she explained to me things like: Shortboys to put money in account, Magic Ring to win money games and luck, Magic Wallet to multiply money. She also has Rats to put money in the house on the same day. She explained to me and I chose Shortboys. I followed the instructions, next thing I saw a large amount of money in my account. She asked me to withdraw her 10% and I was very excited - the money was real. And I told my sister about her and she phoned her for RATS. Now she is living a happy life. She has a Tavern business. Thanks Mama Sheena for changing our lives. From then she never contacted us and she also helps with: Lost Lover, Delete Loans, Divorce, Finish unfinished jobs by other healers. Call or whatsapp now:

TALKING F1: NATALIE LE CLUE

Nailbiting victory for Rosberg THERE are twenty-three corners crammed into the Marina Bay circuit and the Singapore Grand Prix delivered nearly as many talking points. Nico Rosberg dominated Saturday qualifying while Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo beat an offcolour Lewis Hamilton to the front row of the grid. It was a weekend in which Hamilton never looked comfortable or close to matching the pace of his teammate. He had no reason for it either, choosing to say that it just didn’t come together at the important moments. Haas F1’s Romain Grosjean never made it to the start of the race as he suffered a brake-bywire failure and the start-line incident ended Nico Hulkenberg’s race in a shower of carbon fibre before it even began. The Hulkenberg crash demanded a short safety-car period but because it was at the start of the race it had no impact on the race. Nico Rosberg, who had a clean getaway from the line, re-started the race with Ricciardo, Hamilton and Raikkonen in close attendance. The Red Bull driver was able to keep the Mercedes of Rosberg honest with a gap of four seconds while Hamilton came under increasing pressure from Raikkonen in the Ferrari. The dominance of Mercedes over the last while often disguises what finely tuned machines they are and just how much they flirt with the edge at most races. In Singapore both Rosberg and Hamilton were required to manage their brakes from early on. This and relenting pressure from Raikkonen forced Hamilton into a mistake that allowed the Finnish Ferrari driver to pull off a great overtake for third. By the second round of pitstops Rosberg still held an advantage over Ricciardo while Raikkonen was holding off Hamilton for third. However, Mercedes opted to switch Hamilton to Plan B, which meant an extra stop. Ferrari opted to

cover Mercedes and Raikkonen dropped to fourth behind Hamilton. The mistake however wasn’t that Ferrari covered the Hamilton pitstop but the fact that they reacted too late. Had the pitted Raikkonen reacted a lap earlier, or even on the same lap as Hamilton, he would’ve emerged in third place. But when a team is reacting rather than pre-empting you end up with a season, which, for Ferrari, has been littered with strategic errors. While Rosberg stayed out Red Bull brought Ricciardo in for a fresh set of boots. The Aussie closed down a 26-second gap to the race leader but ultimately fell an agonizing 4 tenths of a second short. Behind Hamilton and Raikkonen Sebastian Vettel earned the driver-of-the-day tag by recovering from last to fifth overall. Max Verstappen finished sixth ahead of Fernando Alonso in seventh. Force India’s Sergio Perez finished eighth ahead of Daniil Kvyat in ninth and Renault’s Kevin Magnussen in tenth. Since being demoted from the Red Bull team Kvyat has been missing in action and has often appeared demoralized after races. But the Singapore GP felt like a turning point for him as he shone in a feisty battle with Verstappen, the man who took his place at Red Bull. F1 isn’t like other sports where you can glean information from an athlete’s body language or facial expression in the heat of battle. But as Kvyat fought tooth and nail against Verstappen, and kept him behind, the pride and passion were evident and very much welcome. In the last few weeks Nico Rosberg has accomplished something he’s never done before. He has taken first-time victories in Belgium, Italy, and Singapore. He heads the table by eight points with six race remaining. If he carries his methodical approach through the remainder of the season, and doesn’t slip against Hamilton, he could accomplish something else he’s never done before, the driver’s world title.

It keeps getting tougher all the time “WELL they tried,” said the next-door neighbour. I mean maybe if...” and he strung together a whole bag of maybes and if onlys. He’s a nice chap, likes to see the best in people, specially our national rugby team, the Springboks. “Oh please!” said his wife, shaking her head wearily. “Do me a favour. If that’s tried, perhaps we should take up kennetjie. Maybe then

we could win a Test now and then.” Was it something like that wherever you happened to be watching the eagerly awaited away rugby Test against the All Blacks at the AMI Stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand, last weekend? They left soon afterwards, the neighbour still muttering to himself: “Damn Kiwis. Never thought we’d get a hiding like that – 41-13. Oh,

man!” His schoolteacher wife was still chuckling as they paused at our front gate. “What was the name of it again – the ground where they played, AMI Stadium? Couldn’t be more appropriate – AMI, ‘A-Mazing Ineptitude’.” Her husband gave her a pained look. “Wait till we play them in the return match here in SA,” he said. “Then we’ll show them.” “Not the way we are playing at present,” his wife shot back. Her husband gave a hapless shrug. Poor bloke, you had to wonder how many similar scenarios were being played out at other homes along the street. Unhappily you had to agree. “Amazing Ineptitude” – that just about summed it up. Okay, the ABs posted the first points on the scoreboard, a penalty. But the Boks wiped that out with a typical Bryan Habana try. Then the Kiwis hit back with an Israel Dagg try to let the Boks know they meant business. At halftime the home side were 15-10 ahead, but the Boks were still in it. Still anybody’s game. Beg your pardon – anybody’s game? Part of the Boks’ problem is their inability to keep their momentum going and soon they find themselves running out of steam. And sure enough the ABs shift up another gear to stretch their unbeaten home run to 44 win-

ning matches since last losing in New Zealand in 2009. To whom? You may well ask. Yes, the Boks of course! Nearly all the tries in the second half came from basic Bok errors – a knockon, poor pass, weak clearance kick. Soon the Boks entertain the ABs at home. No doubt coach, Allister Coetzee, will make changes. Will they help? Will they bring in fitagain Pat Lambie? He looked something like his old self for the Sharks in their 53-0 trouncing of the EP Kings in Durban last weekend. We’ll have to wait and see. The Boks also have to prepare for the Wallabies here at home. This clash, too, will be a demanding affair after their 23-17 Brisbane defeat by the Australians earlier this month. Though Argentina fought back bravely in their 36-20 defeat to the Wallabies in last week’s Rugby Championship clash in Perth, the Boks at home will need to pull out all the stops if they hope to gain revenge for that Brisbane defeat by the Wallabies. The Aussies are hot. In the first 12 minutes of the Test they ran in three tries. You don’t get much hotter than that! You can be sure of one thing, the Boks will know that nothing but their very best effort against the Wallabies will be good enough this time around.

PE EXPRESS | WEDNESDAY 21 SEPTEMBER 2016

Local teenager in final leg of MotoAmerica bike champs REPORTER PORT Elizabethan, Dominic Doyle (15), recently participated in the final leg of the MotoAmerica Championships in the KTM 390 race as a Roadracing World Wild Card. The Championships took place at Thunderbolt Circuit in New Jersey from September 9 to 11. Dominic had the privilege of doing a track walk with Dave McFadden and Matthew Scholtz, two established motocross riders, and received some premium advice. Dominic made an excursion off the track during his first race, and, although he rejoined, he had to retire as he had no front brakes left.

His times improved consistently though, as he went from a 1:40:46 on his first practice to a 1:36:99 in the first race, making him one of the fastest riders. Dominic used the warm-up before the second race to practise a new line and strategy, which would leave him less vulnerable, and keep him from going off the track as he had in the first race. In his second race, he made his usual lightning-fast start, immediately jumping from position 7 to 6, but later dropped to the back of the lead train in position 8, where he managed to keep on the tail end of the leaders to the end of the race. He finished 8th out of 27 riders. John Ulrich, from Road Racing World, gave Dominic the royal treatment, includ-

ing a tour of his M4 Suzuki Racing team, and asked for Dominic’s contact details in RSA to do a follow-up article. Dom did quite a few interviews during the weekend, and stirred up a lot of interest. He even had his own cameraman trailing him. “I would like to thank all of my sponsors for their confidence in me and their assistance in getting to MotoAmerica, especially Ginger Arrow Racing Trust, Transport.co.za, PE Classic Bike Racing and Impact Loss Control Solutions.” Dominic Doyle (15) participated in the final leg of the MotoAmerica Championships. In addition there are also lots of Clover products to be won, as well as handed out at the finish. As in previous years there is a l0km distance, as well as a 5km. These will start at 7am and 7:05am respectively. The entry fee is R40 for the longer dis-

tance and R30 for the shorter. For the 10km entrants must be 14 years, or older, on race day with no age limit for the 5km. Small children must be accompanied by parents, older siblings or guardians. The start/finish will be at Kings Beach, in the parking lot, at Humewood. Pre-race registration and late entries, as well as collection of numbers, will take place on Friday the 23rd from 5pm to 7pm at the Kings Beach Surf Life Saving Club, and between 5:30am and 7am on race day. The closing date for the pre-entries is today (Wednesday, September 21). Walkers are welcome.

The official cut-off time is 100 minutes, with the prize giving being held at the Club House at 9am.
