APHUM’ILANGA Transport Services, the business arm and negotiating body of the Taxi Industry in Nelson Mandela Bay, will not be embarking on the strike action planned to start from today Wednesday, February 8. garding their dissatisfaction with the implementation of the Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS) in the metro, have responded in time. “Eastern Cape Premier Phumullo Masualle has responded. He said he was busy dealing with our letter and asked that we exercise some patience in the meantime. As a reasonable structure, we understood,” said Rockman on Monday. Rockman said he was in Pretoria to meet the Transport Department’s Senior Official in charge of the implementation of IPTS in the metros and cities. According to Member of Municipal Council (MMC) on Transport, Rano Kayser, the municipality had already signed with four associations and were on the verge of signing with the fifth. Rockman said, however, that they would like to place it on record that the signing of the taxi associations with the municipality won’t help the implementation. “Even if they sign with five, it won’t work. We are a body representing 2 800 taxi operators involved here. We are a a legal entity recognised by the country’s constitution which clearly allows the right to association. We won’t sign and won’t allow to be divided. “There is no way that what they’re trying to do will succeed,” said Rockman. At time of going to print no comment could be obtained from Kayser on whether the municipality has signed with the fifth association.
