We’re looking for people with a warm heart, a love of children and a little spare time to volunteer at the Children’s Centre in Peacehaven. Does that sound like you? If you’d like to join our volunteer team our next six-sessions online induction course will start May/June but if you miss that one, there will be another soon after. The course includes sessions on: safeguarding, an introduction to the Early Years foundation stage and volunteer rights. Once you have completed it you will have the confidence and skills to step into your role. The volunteers set up messy and sensory play areas and delight the tots with their stories and singing. They also run a Buggy walk group 9:30 am at the Big Park in Peacehaven on Wednesday mornings and support crèche's. Without volunteers, these thriving groups wouldn’t exist. A parent said: ‘Babytime has been a lifesaver for me and my son, I had felt so isolated until I came. The volunteers are so kind and welcoming, we love coming. INAUGURAL ‘TOWARDS ZERO CARBON PEACEHAVEN’ EVENT - A SUCCESS FOR THE TOWN Peacehaven Town Council, Rampion Offshore Wind, The Big Lemon Bus Company, Councillor Christine Brett and Peacehaven Community School And Many More Join Together To Work Towards A Zero Carbon Peacehaven On Saturday 9�� April, many residents, businesses, visitors and members of the local community came along to Community House and Centenary Park (The Big Park) to experience Peacehaven Town Council’s first ‘Towards Zero Carbon Peacehaven’ event. The day, which was sponsored by Rampion Offshore Wind and supported by The Big Lemon Bus Company, was an interactive, fun and informative showcase demonstrating how we can all do our bit, no matter how small, to move the town towards zero carbon. Opening the event, Councillor Christine Brett, Chair of Lewes District Council said: “Today, we will raise awareness of climate change and provide practical help to those who are keen to reduce their carbon footprint. For example, you will have the chance to think about your attitude to clothing and fashion, learn about the changes being made in our public spaces to return them to nature, get involved in volunteering and get a ride on a Big Lemon bus.” Councillor Brett, then handed over to Peacehaven Community School President, Thomas Hayden saying: “Now, let’s hear from someone whose future will be changed by the changes we make in our lives today.” Thomas added to Councillor Brett’s welcome and eloquently spoke about the future of the planet and how he and his fellow pupils were passionate about seeing change. Later, Thomas was joined on stage by five of his school friends who spoke to the audience about a range of environmental issues and climate change where Thomas stressed that we need to stop killing our planet. He said: “Perhaps, the next time you get in the car, think about whether you could in fact walk or cycle instead. We now live in a world that every time you want to go out, the easiest and most obvious means of transportation is driving a car – which is killing the younger generation’s future. “Start thinking wiser for the future of the world. Did you know that based on 2019 data, there were 38.1 million cars licensed in the UK. 31.1 were petrol and diesel run. 602,500 were fully electric or hybrids. If we flip that around, the world would be in a completely different place and the world would have masses of time left for the future. So please, when you buy your next car, make it electric. So you can save my generations’ future.” With its core values of community, sustainability and innovation, The Big Lemon Bus Company ran a free electric bus service, supporting its mission to enable everyone to get around their community in an affordable, enjoyable and environmentally-sustainable way. The event also had many exhibitors, demonstrations and stalls. Dr Bike, in partnership with Cycle Seahaven, gave free bike checks at Peacehaven Cycle Hub in The Big Park, Cycling without Age gave visitors free trishaw cycle rides and The Enterprise Car Club demonstrated one of its self-charging hybrid cars. Promoting reuse, Freegle collected and exchanged unwanted items, Peacehaven Community School screened its
new film on Sustainable Fashion and Seahaven FM entertained everyone with great music. But that wasn’t all. Peacehaven ‘Net Zero’ led a gentle two-mile community walk and Dr Mark Earthy gave presentations on Energy Bills. Other stalls in the Zero Carbon Marketplace included Greenhavens Network, who work in partnership to enhance our parks and opens spaces for people and wildlife, The Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA), Louvain Organic Nursery who produce locally grown shrubs, hedging, herbaceous perennials, herbs, alpines, climbers plus seasonal and annual vegetable plants; Havens Food Cooperative, Peacehaven Community Orchard, Peacehaven Community Garden, Circular Brighton, Water Blade, Ovesco and their Energy Champions, the LDC Recycling Team, The Vegan Society, Seaford Environmental Alliance, Plastic Free Peacehaven and Peacehaven Community School. Peacehaven Town Council Councillor, David Seabrook who is the Chair of the Climate Change Working Party that organised the event, said: “We hope everyone who came along enjoyed our first Towards Zero Carbon Peacehaven event and I’d like to thank all our participants for making it such a special day. “I’ve said it before, but each one of our exhibitors, demonstrations, presentations and stall holders showed how by making small, inexpensive changes today, will help us towards moving Peacehaven towards Zero Carbon tomorrow. Our planet really does need us, there is no Planet B.” In closing, Cllr Brett added: “May I thank those who have made this event possible. PEACEHAVEN HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY CELEBRATE THEIR CENTENARY Peacehaven Horticultural Society one of the longest running organisations in Peacehaven will be celebrating their centenary on 12�� May.
To mark our centenary we are holding an afternoon tea party for our members in the Meridian Centre, 3:00 - 5:00 pm, we hope many will join us for a lovely afternoon.
Their first meeting was held in the Rosemary'Tea Lounge. The first few shows covered more diverse classes than today including best rabbit, cat & pigeons with sports and brass bands giving festive air to the occasion.

Today we cover many classes including vegetables, flowers, baking, & photography. Children also have their own categories. We hold a Show every year in the Meridian Centre which attracts around 350 entries, we also hold a special Trophy Presentation Night. We work hard in the Community, holding coffee mornings, looking after the Indoor Community Garden in the Meridian Centre, and over recent years started a Vegetable Growing Competition with local schools, playgroups and nurseries which after a two year Covid break will be back in 2023.

(Aether Bios Clinic) Bridgeford’s Best Bites Osteopathy Tips PIRIFORMIS SYNDROME The term was introduced by Robinson in 1947, implies a group of signs and symptoms caused by piriformis muscle disorders, leading to irritation and compression of the anatomic structures passing under its belly, notably the sciatic nerve, causing sciatica that is not related to the spine or discs. There is no consensus regarding diagnosis, pathophysiology, investigation and management. Anatomy: There are 2 piriformis muscles located across the bottom, attaching at one end to the ball at the top of the hip bone (the greater trochanter of the femur) and at the other end to either side of the sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of the spine) where the utero-sacral ligament also attaches. Piriformis muscles pass over the sacro-iliac joints, having a strong relationship with sciatic nerve, which passes under or through piriformis muscle slightly differently in each individual, making some people more susceptible to related sciatic nerve irritation. Symptoms: Are mostly related to spasm of the muscle and irritation of the underlying sciatic nerve. Buttock tenderness in the muscle itself and deep seated gluteal pain, which can radiate to coccyx and back of the leg. Aggravated by prolonged sitting, hip flexion, abduction (taking the leg out to the side) and internal rotation. There may be different leg lengths, weak hip abductors and pain on resisted hip abduction in sitting position. Causes: Usually by a fall on the buttocks or direct trauma. Can also be from irritation of the sacro-iliac joint or a lump near the sciatic notch, lipoma (fat containing lump) in the muscle, chronic expanding hematoma across the gluteal muscles, fibrosis after a deep injection, one leg shorter than the other, pyomyositis (bacterial infection in skeletal muscle that can cause a pus-filled abscess), dystonia (neurological movement disorder causing contractions and spasms), possibly adverse effects of atorvastatin. The layer of fascia surrounding the abdominal cavity can provide a route for infection from pelvis to piriformis, involving it in urino-genital irritation. Piriformis syndrome after caesarean section spinal anaesthetic is attributed to the spinal procedure, though can be caused by prolonged upright sitting after delivery, compressing sciatic nerve at sacro-iliac joint, inflaming and irritating piriformis. Ballet dancers often need help with piriformis due to leg turn-out position.
Diagnosis: Neurological examination and imaging results are usually normal and used to rule out other causes of sciatica; each leg can be lifted up when laying on the back; symptoms are not be relieved by lumbar facet joint injections as lumbar nerve origin sciatica would be. Flexion, adduction and internal rotation movements of the hip cause pain. Pain can be reproduced by deep palpation in piriformis; contracting piriformis with Pace's manoeuvre: seated patient abducts the legs; stretching piriformis with Freiberg's manoeuvre: forceful internal rotation of the extended thigh and Side-laying: patient laying painful side up, upper leg bent, then lifting and holding upper knee several inches off the table. Treatment: Focuses on stretching (hip flexion, adduction, and external rotation), hip muscle strengthening, physical therapies, deep soft tissue work, acupuncture dry-needling, pain medication and ultrasound guided nerve blocks and injections, including corticosteroid and botulinum toxin; surgical management should be a last resort and can include arthroscopic release of the muscle. Osteopathic/Manual Management: Adjusting spinal and hip bones, soft tissue and myofascial techniques, stretching, dry needling, home rehabilitation exercises; attention to postural habits and ergonomics. Welcome Back Peacehaven 26/27 March – 2 Fabulous Days! Two fabulous fun days out for all the family. Everyone joining in with the spirit of the event to enjoy the fresh air, socialise with others, and learn more about the benefits of living in Peacehaven. Bringing businesses and the community together. The Welcome Back Peacehaven event held on 26�� & 27�� March was financed by the “Welcome Back Fund” provided by the UK Government and the European Union to aid economic and social recovery after Covid 19. The Fund was extended in the summer of 2021 to include smaller shopping areas and tourist recovery. The PTC (Peacehaven Town Council) application centred on the area from The Dell to Piddinghoe Avenue and up through the entrance to Centenary Park. The South Coast Road businesses and retail outlets and the Coastal Path being highlighted. Overall 160 lucky dip prizes were brought and wrapped – and all the prizes went! FREE. 200 people entered the Hamper Competition - FREE. 150 people entered the Name The Toys Competition - FREE. The Hill Top Nature trail proved a great success with loads of Easter Eggs being claimed together with families searching for the missing letters hidden in the shop fronts along the Coast Road to claim their Easter Egg Prize – FREE, Refreshments - FREE. Thanks to all the groups and helpers: Vicki Ashley & Lucy Rayner - SCDA & Community Groups Information, Victoria Smith - Wave Leisure, Jan Knowlson - South Downs National Park, Becca Woolven – Face Painting, Matt Gray – Jarlands, Jacqui & Malcolm Flavell, Jamie Lloyd – Sustrans, Cycle Seahaven, Rachel Brown, Paula Gander & Steve Hyatt, Cathy & Fergal Gallagher, Peacehaven Town Council Ground Staff. Live music was provided on the Saturday by Captain’s Beard.
