“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him, ‛If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.’ Jesus answered, ‛It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.”” // Luke 4:1-4
In scripture, fasting is most often a response to circumstances:
• Defining Moments: starting a new chapter in our lives
• Mourning: mourning loss in our lives
• Intimacy: restoring intimacy with God
• Desperation: pleading for patience and help, as well as guidance and healing
• Repentance: asking for forgiveness
• Tragedy: seeking divine action
In our lives, fasting can include going without food, social media, material goods, etc. for the purpose of seeking God.
The purpose of fasting is not to manipulate Jesus but to become like him, bringing his truth and justice to the world.
• Fasting reminds us of our dependency on God.
• Fasting reminds us of the sufficiency God.
• Fasting reminds us of our intimacy with God.
“Ultimately we fast simply because we want God more than we want anything this world has to offer us.”
Tim Keller

Stop by for fellowship and refreshments as we honor Camp Rutledge! We will commemorate our history at Hard Labor Creek State Park and celebrate our first trip to Camp ToKnowHim.
We have made modifications to our worship schedule to help address long-standing challenges with parking, create more breathing room between services, and make Sunday mornings a more hospitable experience for all. Thank you for your flexibility!

Peachtree’s Memorial Guild needs volunteers to help support grieving families. Memorial and funeral services take place on weekdays, with a one and a half to two-hour time commitment. Responsibilities include welcoming guests, distributing bulletins, and setting up materials as well as any memorabilia the family may bring.
To volunteer or for more information, please reach out to Liz Tash at LTash@PeachtreeChurch.com.
Just as families keep in touch about joys and sorrows, our church family at Peachtree wants to do the same. During your prayers this week, we ask you to lift up these people to God.
