SERMON OUTLINE

JOHN 2:1-23: THE SUREST SIGN

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth // John 1:14

“Sign, sign everywhere a sign.”

• “What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” — John 2:11

• “The Jews then responded to him, ‘What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?’” — John 2:18

• “Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.” — John 2:23

The First Sign: Water into wine—grace

• God as guest. The celebration that can’t be stopped—his blood.

The Second Sign: Clearing the temple—truth

• God as host. The temple that can’t be destroyed—his body.

“Are you allowing God to use you (or) are you trying to use God?”

The surest sign of grace is celebration. The surest sign of truth is worship.
