Introducing Hotel Training Institute Beluga School for Life Phang Nga Beluga School for Life Phang Nga (BSfL) was built by Beluga Group, a German Shipping Company based in Bremen, Germany after the Tsunami in December 2004. The purpose of the school was to give shelters and education to those children and families who were affected by the tsunami. The Beluga School for Life Phang Nga now houses 130 students and over 50 adults all live in the compound. In the same compound, there is a kindergarten, an elementary school, houses for staff and also an 18 guest houses with 26 bedrooms to house guests who come to visit the school or guests who have donated the money to support the school. The school is now managed by the Beluga School for Life Foundation. Since there are already 26 rooms hotel with full hotel facilities, a 50 seats restaurant, full housekeeping facilities, a complete international kitchen standard, and a proper front office; the idea of setting up a proper hotel school came a year later. Khun Manoon Kalapat, the Hotel Training Institute Director, joined BSfL in early 2008. The hotel school was up in running as early as June 2008 with only 3 kitchen students on board. These students will graduate in February 2009. All have already been offered jobs in the hotels. The Hotel Training Institute (HTI) is opening its door for the next batch of students in four departments; 1. Front Office 2. Housekeeping 3. Restaurant and Bar service and 4. Kitchen The institute will open on Monday 01 May 2009. The 12 months curriculums for all departments have been designed to meet the needs of the hotel industry. All HTI graduates will be able to work well in international standard hotels all over the world. HTI trains students for the jobs not for the degree. Students will be trained to master the followings 4 principles; 1. The skills to do the job 2. The service personality 3. The service attitude and 4. The foreign languages required to do the job.

Where’s paradise? Phi Phi consists of six small islands, 42 km. away from Krabi’s shore. When people talked about Phi Phi, tourists usually illustrate to the Phi Phi Don one of the six Island which is center of everything; accommodation, travel agency, boat trip, package tours, activities etc. However the rest are wonderful not less than Phi Phi Don definitely. If you talk to “Khao Lak” after the grand disaster “Tsunami”, many people still fear and keep such a bad memory in their mind. But Buddhist’s philosophy said “Everything born and gone, it’s samsara”. So, why don’t we smile with the new dawn? By bus travel from Phuket to Khao Lak with Phuket-Takua-pa line. (Please inform driver which beach is your destination before buying a ticket). Or, you can take highway 402, drive to Sarasin Bridge which connected Phuket and Phang-nga turn left after the bridge and take seashore’s highway 4, there is a signage to Khao Lak and Amphoe Takua-Pa. Bang Sak beach
Bang Sak beach is located on the North of Khao Lak National Park. It suit for tourist who looking for natural and clam. The continuous curve of white sand beach is clean and delicate. A grove of shady pines and purple flowers of Goat’s Foot Creeper make this quaint scene natural.
Laem Pakarang (Coral Cape)
A wonderful nature built of beach piled with many type of coral fossil washed up on the beach by strong waves thus giving the beach its name. On the north it has a small forest with a grove of shady pines. The charm of this place is tranquil and beautiful scenery that you can see both side of the beach. Also it’s a place for bird watching spot, especially the South seashore birds.
Khuk Khak beach
Next to Laem Pakarang, you will find the calm space of white sand beach which just like the best carpet of the world which gentle hold your bared-feet on your recreation time. A forest is in the middle of the beach on the South there is a small canal which you can walk across when ebb tide. The advantage of this beach is there’re all kind and all rates of accommodations.
Bang Niang beach
Similar with Khuk Khak beach, Bang Niang beach has a delicate white-sand beach but the indented shape of the beach made its look different. This is the most colorful beach of Khao Lak area. Nang Thong beach

Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park
The 150 square kilometers Park is located on 56 kilometres from Amphoe Takua Pa-Tay-Mueang road. The Park lay with beaches up to 10 km. It’s full with hills and abundant forest. With 1.5 km. trekking path along with the wood and seashore, you can studies plenitude of nature. In tranquil atmosphere, you will found the most adorable sunset in the south of the Park. Moreover, Khao Lak-Lam Ru Park also have beautiful waterfall with the puddles. The cascade runs all year round and the surroundings are blissfully calm and cool under the trees shade. 22
Khao Lak beach

Isle of paradise Coral Island, known locally as Koh Hae, is a beautiful getaway destination located nine kilometers southeast of Phuket. The island features two main beaches, Long Beach and Banana Beach (small beach). Coral Island, itself, has no public energy such as electricity and water. The electricity and water have to be gain from electric generator and drills respectively.

he beaches on the island are white sandy beaches and sea water is clear. Monsoon has no effect to the island. During mid of the year, some fisherman boats or sailing boats stop in front of the island as it acts like a sheltered harbor. Marine lives on the island are well preserved by Thai Fishery Department and they have the coral plantation project on the island. Apart from marine lives, Coral Island also has many types of birds such as eagles and hornbill, living in the forest. Hornbill is one of the scarce birds in Thailand. There are about 20 couples living in the trees on the mountain.
Coral Island by Speed Boat
Coral island lives up to its name with a reef only a few meters from the beach. Guides provide instruction and show you the best spots around this shallow reef. Look out for parrotfish, needlefish, damselfish, surgeonfish and lots more. We spend the entire day on the beach so you can plan your day as you choose. You have easy access to the reef since it starts only few meters from the beach.

At night this location is beautifully calm; by day it is quite busy with day trippers but peace and quiet can be found at the extremities of both beaches. Deck chairs and sun loungers can be rented and come free (at the resort) with the day tour. 25

Our guests can enjoy several types of water activities such as snorkeling, diving, banana boat or parasailing. Our large snorkeling area is safe and is supervised by Fishery department for their coral planting experiment project. Snorkeling and diving are allowed inside this area. The dayspring, I open my eyes slowly and conscience to return from reverie of dream. Many people believes to do the best in the beginning and will that things happening all the times that is left over, so all peoples bless with a happiness in the first minutes of a new year. Although, everyone knows with impossible to make us are happy all of year but beginning of the hope is a good sign to take us find new challenges that is coming.

he beginning of the day is same thing as well as I wake up from a bed and washes one’s face and changes the clothes to do exercise. In the morning, I walk from a residence at hillock on 6 o’clock of the last of rainy season. The new day is not begin with completeness and the sun in not bright with fullness, the climate is warm and my brain is full with empty spaces that is enough to remember its beautiful scene. While I am uphill, I emerge a new thing or find out an exit way of problems that comes with sweat from a face. The way of exercise of us today that is Khaw Sim Bee road like others roads in the world. Thailand is popular to create the name of a significance people to recall them in the past. Khaw Sim Bee is the name of Chinese family that moves to settle in Thailand that serve in government service over a last decade and was appointed to in charge of the head city of Andaman coast that Khaw Sim Bee gets development a quality of life, making a town planning, including there are setting a base of good economy until now. Almost a tip of a mount, I go over to do exercise in the park, the atmosphere amid big trees in a tropical forest and my favorite song from my I-Pod with freshness, it make me forget how many times I take a weight lifting. I look up to the sky with brightness and a view front of my face. Besides, it makes me forget tired and makes me forget to breathe with suffocating on the earth. Before I leaved, I go over at a tiny park on a tip of a mount. Suffocated monument is located on the front. A form is lined on a view point, I glimpse the sun that move away from the horizon as well as greet me before going. The light of the sun in the morning has increased energy into a life. The island and vies of the sea are in front of me, is not the ending scene of this wonderfulness for today but it is a beginning that has still been remained for 900 maters for a way down and remains for many hours until the time is over. I don’t know after leaving from a starting point. My one day what will be happened, but one thing that I know my body and mind is already with a brave heart for today. 29
Late Sunshine Jabuticaba yacht has an interesting past, packed with tragedy, action and sweet, sentimental romance beyond shores
F
or Vishal Sood, it was love at first sight. He first saw her in a photograph sent via email and quit his plush MTV job to be with her. He moved from his country India to settle in Thailand so that he could be near her and keep loving and caring for her. She is a Turkish gulet called Jabuticaba. Sood bought Jabu in Turkey and sailed her to Goa from where she was taken to Maldives since he was initially planning to operate with local partners over there. He hadn’t signed a contract till then. Once the boat arrived in Maldives, the local partners quietly took Jabu to a southern atoll and refused to return her unless Sood paid them a ransom of US$ 50,000. It took him six months to retrieve the boat only after a ‘political clout’ intervened. At that point, Sood was in a dilemma, whether to leave her or to make something out of her. Sood decided to make an attempt. He quit his job at MTV India as head of production. Sood had been to Phuket several times before and had absolutely loved it. He decided to move Jabu and himself to Phuket. “A boat needs constant care and love, maybe that’s why boats are referred to as ‘she’. When Jabu arrived in Phuket, my heart bled. Everything that could be moved out of the boat, the fridge, GPS, satellite phones had been stolen. The paint and varnish had completely peeled off. I spent the next three-four months taking care of her, repairing and, most importantly, loving her. Sometimes I even talked to her,” he says. Jabu, with her twin-masts, is 24m long and 6.5m wide. She has a classic design with expansive teak wood decks, a mahogany hull and plenty of open and covered spaces. She is now

well-equipped with all modern safety equipment and life-jackets. Vishal Sood, Managing Director, Jabu Days 1. How has Jabuticaba changed your life? There are differences and similarities. The biggest difference is that my earlier office was at the MTV building or studios, while now it’s on a boat, cruising along the most spectacular parts of Asia. Besides this, handling your own business requires you to be involved with every aspect of the business, like sales, advertising, marketing, finance, operations, HR, etc. In MTV, I was only responsible for production. The similarities are in being creative. We create custom designed programmes for all our customers. This requires creativity as we have something different to offer all our clients. The ability to think out of the box has obviously come from working at MTV. 2. Is it a viable financial venture? Financially, one has to remember that business is like a plant. Unless you don’t give it care, it won’t grow nor will it bear fruit. Therefore, one has to be patient. The rewards will come as we have something unique to offer. The tough part is marketing and advertising with limited resources. The other issue is staffing as we are based on a paradise island, which is a holiday destination, unlike central business districts. Here, the work culture is to ‘take it easy’, which makes it difficult to beaggressive. It would have been extremely difficult to leave MTV for anything less challenging than what I am doing right now. It’s easier to be creative in television, but with cruises, I must take creativity to a different level. A level that is more experiential and live. When a group of guests come off Jabu laughing, joking with their new friends, and thanking me for the wonderful time, I know I have succeeded what I set out to do. 3. Do you miss your MTV days? I miss the people I worked with, but the fun and creativity element is the same. I have created a new concept. Till now, most boat cruises were about the destination. Boating was
all about getting you there. With us, it’s about what happens onboard till you get there. At MTV, the creativity was expected. Here we have to offer customised ideas to every charter client as we take into account their age, nationality and background before we suggest a cruise programme to them. 4. Do you think India’s vast coastline can be explored for cruises? There is potential, but the cruise market is still in its infancy in India. There are also infrastructural limitations as we do not have enough marinas to keep the boats safe. The government has to be proactive to develop this industry since without their support not much can be achieved. Besides the Indiancoastline, Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshwadeep Islands also have huge potential for cruising. It’s important to understand what a customer is seeking from a cruise. Initially, we tried to cruise in India. Our biggest hurdles were the archaic laws. The government needs to see it as an opportunity to tap higher revenues in terms of taxes as well as foreign exchange earnings. Also, if cruising routes are developed, it will pave the way for other support businesses such as hotels, diving, snorkeling, restaurants, shops, shipyards, spares agencies, yacht dealers and suppliers. The list is endless. Even though Thailand is a developing economy, they are far ahead of us in this business. 5. Would you recomm end professional sailing or boating to youngsters in India? India has a long way to go before youngsters can start considering this as a serious career option. That’s why I am in Thailand instead of India. Indian tourism needs to exploit the country’s vast coastline and the government has to make it easier for people to enter this business. 6. Apart from passion, what technical expertise is needed to be in your shoes? None. You learn on the job as long as you have an interest in boating and cruising. 31
