Everybody is so busy that they forget all about Carrot. Carrie’s dad gets the car ready to drive Carrie to school.

“Arf! Arf!” barks Carrot as she leaps into her basket. She wants her breakfast. “Wait, Carrot,” Carrie’s mum says, “I’ll give you something to eat in a little while.”

Carrot is sad. She doesn’t like to be ignored. Then, she has an idea! 9 9

Carrie arrives at school on time. “Bye, Dad!” she says as she waves goodbye. “See you later, Carrie!” her dad replies, waving back.

Carrie is happy to be in school again. She misses her friends. “Hi!” she says. “Hi, Carrie!” her friends answer. 11 11

Carrie opens her schoolbag to take her water bottle out. Guess who she sees inside? CARROT! “Arf! Arf!”

“Carrot, what are you doing here?” asks Carrie, surprised. “I guess she doesn’t want to be left at home, Carrie!” says one of her friends. Everyone laughs. 13 13

“I’m so glad you’re here, Carrot,” Carrie says, “but you have to hide in my bag during class, okay?” “Arf!” Carrot agrees. She is very excited to be in school, too!

While Carrie does her work in class, Carrot plays in Carrie’s schoolbag. It is dark inside the bag. Still, Carrot has fun wriggling in between Carrie’s things.

Soon, Carrot falls asleep. She stays quite still in Carrie’s bag for several hours.

Then, Carrot wakes up and needs to pee. “Arf!” she barks once so that Carrie can let her out.

“What was that sound?” Carrie’s teacher asks the class.

“Arf!” Carrot barks again. “Did anybody else hear that sound?” the teacher asks, somewhat confused.

Carrie stands up to tell her teacher about Carrot. “Mrs Peterson, I...” she begins sheepishly, but then ‘RRR-I-N-G! RRR-I-N-G!’ “There’s the school bell, class!” the teacher says. “School is over. It is time to go home!”

“Phew!” Carrie says to herself. Then, she turns to Carrot and tells her, “You are a very lucky puppy, Carrot! The bell rang just at the right time!”

Carrie runs out of the classroom. Then, she quickly lets Carrot out of her schoolbag. Carrot is very happy to run about as she pleases!

Carrie’s dad arrives to bring Carrie home. “Carrot, what are you doing here?” he asks, surprised. “Ha, ha!” Carrie laughs, “Carrot came to school with me today, Dad!”
