5 BASIC / MCQ

Read the story below carefully and answer the questions that follow. Once upon a time, there was a man called Robin Hood. He was called “The Prince of Thieves” because he stole money from the rich and gave it to the poor. He met his great friend and helper, Little John, in a strange way. Early one morning, Robin was walking across a narrow bridge over a river when, suddenly, he saw a huge man walking towards him. This was Little John, and he was so called because he was so big. Neither of them would give way, so they fought in the middle of the bridge for three hours. Little John was agile. He handled his long sturdy staff deftly. Finally, they both fell into the river. They continued to wrestle in the water. As soon as they had stopped fighting, they stood up in the water and started laughing at themselves. From that first encounter, they remained loyal friends and fought against the infamous Sheriff of Nottingham. Robin Hood had a price on his head for robbing the rich who made the life of the poor a misery. Choose the correct answer and write the number in the brackets. 1. Third, draw a small circle in the centre where the diagonal lines meet. Next, from the small circle, mark off 4 cm on each line to be left uncut.

30

Second, on the lines formed from the folds, draw lines diagonally from corner to corner.

Fifth, mark a small cross at each corner of the cut corners. Then, bend each half of the cut corner to reach the small circle in the centre. Move anti-clockwise, do the same with the other cut halves until all the cut halves meet in the centre. Make sure that the corners overlap slightly in the centre.

Fourth, from each corner, cut along the line to the point marked 4 cm from the small circle in the centre.

Sixth, put the pin through the bent overlapping four corners which have met in the small hole in the centre into the eraser. The pinwheel is now fixed to the eraser. Hold the pencil in your hand and let the wind rotate the pinwheel. There, you have made a pinwheel.

You have a cousin who lives in Sabah, West Malaysia. She writes to you about the Pasar Tamu (Morning Market). Read the letter below carefully and answer the questions that follow. Dear Marina,

123, Kampung Tamu, 89150 Kota Belud. 12 July 2015

Do you want to know about our pasar tamu in Sabah? It is an open-air market which is held every Sunday morning. Farmers, fishermen and traders travel many kilometres to sell their goods at the pasar tamu. The fishermen come with their baskets of fish and place some fish on their plastic mats. There are pails of water for them to clean the fish for their customers. The fishermen are often heard shouting, “Fresh, fish for sale! Come and buy my fresh fish!” The farmers who come with some goats and buffaloes always try to catch every potential buyer’s attention by asking enthusiastically “Goats and buffaloes! Are there any offers?” There are women traders too. A lady who sells fresh eggs insists that the eggs are good farm-fresh eggs. Some women sit on nipah mats on the ground. They cover their heads with a batik cloth. They smile and talk to each other as they sell their wares, “Rice cakes for sale!”, “Big baskets, small baskets! Many colours!”, “Pots and pans for your kitchen!” There is an interesting trader. He beats on the gong and calls out to attract customers at the same time, “Come one. Come all! Come to my medicine stall! Come and buy my medicine to cure all your aches and pains!”. The scene is chaotic and noisy but interesting and colourful! When you visit me during your school holidays, I shall take you to a pasar tamu! You will see for yourself why I enjoy going to the pasar tamu. Till then, goodbye!

Your cousin, Rose

WATER IS PRECIOUS! WASTE NOT WANT NOT! Ways to save water :

Water is a precious matter to each and every one of us. We use water every day for washing, cooking and drinking purposes. So, we must make good use of every drop of water and not waste this precious matter. If we do not waste it, then we will not be short of it.

Here are a few ways to save water :

Check the taps in the house to make sure they are not leaking.

Take showers, not baths, in long tubs as taking baths requires a lot

of water.

When you are soaping yourself during a shower, turn off the tap.

When brushing your teeth, use a cup or mug of water to rinse your mouth.

Rainwater is clean and free, so collect rainwater to water plants and wash

the porch.

Wash the car with buckets of water, not water direct from the hose.

Wash a full load of clothes in the washing machine every time.
