There is nothing like enjoying the great spring weather, watching the action on the diamond and enjoying the ballpark food. Taking care of our planet is everyone’s duty and Peoria helps increase awareness and provides programs to increase our preservation of our environment. On Saturday, April 23, participate in a morning river and trail clean up held along New River. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Centennial Plaza, join the Planetpalooza event featuring educational and entertaining activities, the Eco-Explorers kids zone, food trucks, music, clean fuel cars exhibit and more. Additional programs not held at these two events include bulk trash clean ups, household hazardous waste collection, library Earth Day activities, environmental workshops, Arbor Day tree planting and more. Family Fitness Activities

Kids and adults have numerous fitness activities to choose from throughout the year. • F amily Track Times: Families may walk on the track with strollers or with direct supervision of children seven days a week. • Saturday Dodgeball: Ages 8 - 12 Drop-in play at 3 p.m. every Sat. • First Friday “Dodge the Ball” Tournament: At 7 p.m. for junior high kids in grades 6th-8th. Open to first 60 kids who register on-site. • Step It Up Rio: A ticket can be entered for a monthly raffle. There will be a total of 10 prizes awarded each month!

Enroll your kids to explore new experiences and expand learning in a supervised, safe and secure environment. Children experience a variety of activities before and/or after school as an alternative to daycare. The program provides a well-rounded, daily core schedule throughout the year and features activities such as arts and crafts, games, events, field trips during school breaks, outdoor activities and more. All sites are licensed by the Department of Health Services (DHS). A parent or authorized person on the emergency form must sign the child in and out of the program each day. Department of Economic Security (DES) funding is available for those that qualify by calling (602) 771-0014. Call (800) 424-2246 for military assistance.

Lil’ Learners All Day Preschool

Children participate in a variety of activities and expand education, social and developmental skills in a supervised and secure environment. The goal is the total well-being of each child. The program is licensed by the Department of Health Services (DHS). When Year-Round; Mon. - Fri.; 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. Ages Children 3 1/2 - 5 years old. Children must be able to toilet themselves. Child Care Break Camps A perfect solution for parents needing childcare during the Peoria School District breaks. These are an extension of our AM/PM program and offers crafts, games, fun, scheduled field trips, site events and special on-site activities in a safe, supervised environment. START THINKING ABOUT SUMMER NOW! Summer Programs for Kids Ages 3½ - 14

Summer is fast approaching! Below is some basic information about our upcoming Summer Youth Programs. So, take a look and find one that best fit you and your family. Registration will tentatively be available mid April.

Summer Camp Kindergarten through 14 years old

Summer Camp is an extension of our AM/PM program.Your children can attend 1 to 5 days per week. It is DHS (Department of Health Services) licensed and accepts DES (Department of Economic Security) for those that qualify. Field trips, breakfast and AM & PM snacks are included in the fees.

Summer Recreation For those entering 1st grade through 5th grade

A place where children can be with their friends as much or as little as they choose, go on a trip or just hang out and have fun. This is a dropin program, so children can sign themselves sign in and out of their own volition. Field trips and special activities are planned daily for an additional fee. Transportation from local elementary schools is provided at the beginning and end of program.

Extended Day Camp Kindergarten through 14 years old

Programming provided August 4 and 5 and will include a variety of activities, arts and crafts, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) workshops and more. Held at Rio Vista Recreation Center, which includes the gym, wally ball courts and game room throughout the program. This is not a licensed program. It is an extension of our Summer Recreation Program, which is a drop in program. The children may sign themselves in and out of the program of their own volition.

Tiny Tots Ages 4 and 5 years

Children can get a taste of childcare or aid in the development of social skills and fine and gross motor skills through active group games, crafts and daily field trips and events. This is a DHS (Department of Health Services) licensed program. Afternoon snack provided.

Step Out - Teen Summer Recreation

For teens entering 6th and through 9th grades Step Out participants will enjoy onsite activities as well as daily field trips. Transportation from local elementary schools is provided at the beginning and end of program.

Teen Dating Violence Prevention Arizona Snowbowl Course focuses on the effects that dating violence Turn-around Trip has on our youth. Through this free course teens will be discussing healthy relationship boundaries. This will include how to recognize an abusive relationship, how to communicate in a healthy, positive manner and how to plan for their own safety. The overall goal is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to have a healthy relationship; know if they are in an abusive relationship, be able to help a friend or family member identify abuse, and, most importantly, how to stay safe.

Join the teen program on a trip to Arizona Snowbowl in Flagstaff. Trip includes rental skis or snowboard equipment, transportation, supervision, lift ticket, a morning 2-hour group lesson, and breakfast. Upon registration, more info will be emailed out regarding what to bring, where to rent gear, etc. We will meet at the Rio Vista Recreation Center at 5 a.m. and will return by 8 p.m.

If you are currently in grades 7-11 and a City of Peoria resident, you are eligible to join. Nineteen local youth advise the City Council, through the City Manager, on recreation programs, events, ordinances and proposals pertaining to youth within our community through the Youth Advisory Board. Representatives, appointed by City Council, from all areas of the City come from local, charter and private schools.

The City of Peoria offers 4 recreational swim teams: Sunrise Red Sharks, Sunrise Green Sharks, Centennial Stingrays, Peoria Piranhas and 3 recreational dive teams: Sunrise Red Sharks, Sunrise Green Sharks, Peoria Blue Piranhas. Active Adult Programs Adults ages 50 and better are encouraged to take part in activities offered throughout the year at the Peoria Community Center, 8335 W. Jefferson (2 blocks S. of Peoria Avenue). There is no membership fee required and programs are open to residents and non-residents.

Lunch & Transportation

The Community Action Program (C.A.P.) invites adults 60 and older for lunch at 11:45 a.m., Mon. - Fri. A $3.50 donation and 24 hour notice is requested. Menus are available at the Community Center. DES/DDD FUNDED PROGRAMS

The City of Peoria Adaptive Recreation Program contracts with the Department of Economic Security, Division of Developmental Disabilities, to offer a variety of Day Treatment and Training Services. All programs are staffed on a 1:4 staff-to-participant ratio, so a moderateto-high level of independence is required. After School Recreation Program – provides age-appropriate activities for students 12-17 and 18-21 years of age. Program days follow the Peoria Unified School District calendar. Adult Day Recreation Program – is designed to provide unique and challenging activities in a small group setting. To inquire about openings at our two sites, contact Jodi at (623) 773-7436.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

This internationally-recognized sports program is open to intellectually challenged individuals 8 years and older. To participate in Special Olympics training and competition, athletes must have a completed Special Olympics Medical Release Form. Registration for trips is on a first-come, first-served basis. PAYMENT IS DUE AT TIME OF REGISTRATION. Times and, occasionally prices, are subject to change. Cancellations: For events where a ticket has been purchased or space booked from an outside agency (theater, travel company, etc.), we cannot issue a full refund, we can only try to resell your ticket, or you may sell it yourself. In some cases, a partial refund will be mailed to you in approximately 3 - 4 weeks. Transportation is by school bus, city van or charter bus. All trips require a minimum number of registrations. Arrive at least 15 minutes before departure time.

NO refunds, credits or transfers will be issued after the program or session has concluded. Refunds will be given for registration fees only.

Ramada and Field Rentals

Park ramadas, softball fields and multi-purpose fields are available to rent. Call (623) 773-7137 for more information.

Resident Rate

If where you permanently reside or live is located within the corporate limits of the City of Peoria and you pay property taxes to the City, you are eligible for the resident rate. Proof of residency is required at the time of registration. Acceptable proof is a copy of your property tax statement showing the physical location of your residence or we can look this up at www.maricopa.gov.

Notice to Persons with Disabilities

The City of Peoria Community Services Department strives to make its programs, services and facilities accessible to individuals with disabilities. If you would like to request modification that would allow you or a family member with a disability to participate successfully in a program, contact the Community Services Department at (623) 773-7137 and request that an application for modification be mailed to you. The city requires two weeks to implement a reasonable modification. Participation in a desired program may not begin until the request for modification has been thoroughly reviewed. Therefore, complete an application two or more weeks prior to a desired start date.
