Hello! My name is Alice and I already have a great home but my two four legged friends here are searching for loving families of their own. This is my gal pal Daisy and she is a very sweet pitty puppy. She gets pretty excited cause she is still a puppy but after she checks you out she is all smiles and wags. You can check her out and her other Pitbull buddies on page 8. My little buddy Harry Potter is such a gentleman. He is still a kitten and very tolerant of little folks like me! You can find more information on him when you get to page 17. Thanks for thinking rescue!

Welcome to PRM! Happy Thanksgiving! What a beautiful fall, the off leash parks have been packed with smiling faces and wagging tails! Pets are such a wonderful blessing to so many of us with their nearly universal unconditional love, acceptance and companionship. And so much more!!! Dogs for instance also have jobs in many cases (Guide Dogs, Pet Therapy, Herding, etc.) and they are naturally protective of their pack members. Rescues are certainly no exception. The gratitude & devotion of a rescue animal that has seen hard times is not measurable and to most pet lovers is priceless. On page 6 there is a heart warming story about a wonderful rescue dog named Buddy. He was initially rescued & adopted by his new owner through the Hinton & District SPCA but as the story will tell you Buddy actually ended up being the hero rescuing his owner from a mother Grizzly! This is an amazing example of what rescued pets are all about. For those rescue organizations in the Edmonton area please check out page 16 where you will find information on a new grant offered by the City of Edmonton for animal rescue. It is so nice to see everyone working together, and from the rescue standpoint we couldn’t be happier! Facebook! The PRM Team

PET PROMISE Thousands of years ago, we humans formed a covenant with our companion animals. We wanted them to live with us and to share our lives. Because of this our ‘pets’ lost most of their natural skills to fend for themselves. It then became our responsibility to feed and care for them. While the animals have kept their end of the bargain, we humans largely have not. ~ Unknown

Tail Of The Month by Robyn Rosen

Babylon’s Ark: The Incredible Wartime Rescue of the Baghdad Zoo by: Lawrence Anthony & Graham Spence

At the onset of the Iraq war the world’s focus was on a grisly battle between men, unnecessary human suffering andthe destruction of a nation; but the plight of Baghdad’s animals remained in shadows. Family pets were abandoned and wandered the war-torn streets desperate to survive, farms were evacuated leaving animals confined and helpless, and the exotic animals of the Baghdad Zoo were deserted and defenseless to the assault on their city. Hope seemed fleeting for these animals until Conservationist Lawrence Anthony took action. In early 2003 Anthony left his home in South Africa and became the first civilian to gain military access into Iraq, traveling unarmed and unescorted to the violent heart of Baghdad. Here he found the largest zoo in the Middle East; severely damaged, looted by desperate civilians, and hundreds of animals killed or missing. Only the zoo Veterinarian and two brave staff remained to care for the animals. Babylon’s Ark delves into the dark shadows of a war torn nation and the courageous rescue of those who could not call out for help. Anthony leads readers through the rubble of Baghdad, vividly describing his interactions with US 4

troops, raiding bombed palaces and ruined hotels for food and supplies for the animals and staff, rescuing lions, cheetah’s and ostriches from Uday Hussein’s palace, and rescuing seventeen of Saddam Hussein’s prized Arabian horses from dangerous armed thieves. Readers will find themselves on an emotional journey alongside Anthony and a handful of devoted Iraqi and American animal lovers as they fight to protect the animals that remain, and will rejoice at their success as the Baghdad Zoo is rebuilt and re-opened at the close of the war. In it’s conclusion Babylon’s Ark gives a sobering summary of the delicate balance of life in the animal kingdom and the planet’s environments, and how the rescue of the Baghdad Zoo inspired the formation of The Earth Organization, which is dedicated to the creative responsible rehabilitation of Planet Earth and the animal kingdom. This is absolutely a must-read novel that presents the act of animal rescue on a global scale. It will deeply move readers and bring a greater awareness to the suffering of animals all over the globe. prm

Rescue 100 My name is Thyme and I am a tall Arabian gelding who came to Rescue 100 in May 2011. Although my name is spelled like the spice, I am named after the hourglass shape on my nose. My previous owner stated I was saddle trained, but so far I’ve only shown that I am halter trained and can pick up my front feet. I’m still pretty shy & cautious so either way I’ll likely need a refresher on things. I am quite curious about people and like to come up and check things out. I also call out a lot from the field just to say “Hi”!

SAVE A DOG AT THE S.P.C.A.

And Someday He May Save You!

Submitted By: Morris Archibald

B

uddy is a Lab Rottweiler cross and is going to be 12 years old in 2011. We adopted buddy from the Hinton S.P.C.A. in the year 2000 when he was a year and a half old. I work in forestry and Buddy has accompanied me to the field / woods / mountains all his life. I most likely owe my life to Buddy.

On June 03, 2010 while working 90 Km. north of Hinton by the Berland River I encountered a sow grizzly with two small cubs. She decided I was too close Morris, Jodi and Buddy (20 meters) and attacked. In 2 seconds she was on me. I put my arms up, took 2 meters. I now have my bear spray out and steps back and tripped on a log, falling to the ready. The bear stops, turns around, and ground. I then swung my foot at her nose charges me for the third time. Just as I’m and she grabbed my boot in her mouth. I felt about to fire off the bear spray she stops, huge pressure as she bit through my boot about 4 meters away, stares at me, and then and into my foot. In another 2 seconds Budruns off in the direction she had sent the dy my faithful bush dog arrives on the scene. cubs. The whole encounter lasted approx. The bear releases me and chases Buddy 20 seconds. I was very, very lucky. My only down a hill for about 15 meters. Two more injury was a small cut on the side of my foot seconds have passed and the bear is coming where one of her teeth went in. I couldn’t back at me with Buddy in hot pursuit. Buddy and bear do believe that the bear hadn’t made contact with Buddy. We a quick dance and the bear then runs to our left about 15 were both very, very lucky. prm

Hinton & District SPCA My name is Oreo and I am an affectionate special needs kitty. I am allergic to a preservative in most cat foods but I do okay on Origin food or raw diets. I also have a knee cap that moves - it’s called a luxating patella. So I am not supposed to jump and I am currently on bed rest – yuk!

My name is Charlie and I am a handsome 8mth old Miniature American Eskimo X. I am a nice boy and I’m working hard on my social skills. I would love a quiet, patient and loving home.

My name is Cocoa and I am a bit older and look like I may have been used to have many litters of puppies. I am wonderful with people of all sizes but not great with other animals. I hope someone out there has room in their heart and home for me!

Teddy here. I am a gentle easy going German Shepherd X around 3yrs old. I have a great time in my foster home tearing around and howling at the coyotes. I am housetrained and I do not chase livestock, but I will need a fenced yard because I like to go exploring! I have already met some children and was very polite with them.

My name is Tucker and I’m a well behaved, intelligent & obedient 2yr old Australian Shepherd X. I need a quiet country home where I can relax outside but still come inside where I’m well mannered & housetrained. I get along fine with other dogs & cats but small children still make me a little nervous and I do need some time to get used to new situations.

Am I handsome or what? My name is Horatio and I am 2.5yrs old. I am a very curious and chatty little guy who thinks nothing is better than lots of affection and tummy rubs. I love getting attention and having it all to my self in a quiet animal-free home would be my paradise. I’m just an old soul looking for that special soul mate or two!

Everyone calls me Dora. I am a very sharp looking 2yr old sweetheart. I love being close to my people and I’m a particularly gifted door greeter! My favourite home would be one where I have you all to myself with no other pets or children. I really want to be your one and only… and trust me I’m worth having all to your very own!

Grande Prairie SPCA I’m not a fox or a hound dog but my name is Copper. I was born here on April 2...but everyone else in my litter has gone on to find great homes. I just know someone special is out there – maybe it is you? I am a very sweet little girl who loves EVERYONE.

I’m Felix the cat. I am 1.5yrs old and I’m here because my previous owners were no longer able to look after me. I am a social guy and I like other cats. I’m also very playful & cuddly. Chasing the laser pointer is pretty awesome but my favourite thing is belly rubs.

They call me Bear. I was brought here last May when my owner went to heaven. I am a Pointer X around 2.5yrs old. I love people and older kids... although sometimes I get a little too excited for the little guys. I think some dogs are pretty cool and most cats are fine by me.

They call me Paris. I am a 1yr old mixed breed of all the very best types! I am busy learning my manners and look forward to being the best dog I can be. I can hardly wait to find a wonderful home and loving family.

I am Mario (on the left) and this is my best brother Luigi. We are beautiful little long haired Guinea Pigs. We were brought here last spring when our owners were all played out. We still have a lot of game left in us yet though... maybe you should come on by and check us out!

Pit Bulls For Life Foundation My name is Brody and I am a very busy boy. I am a typical puppy and get into most everything. I don’t always pay attention but I’m always big on loving life! I am a vocal & playful pup and can’t wait to find a family of my very own to love forever.

Everyone likes to call me Casey. I am a confident puppy who is still living with my littermates. Sometimes I’m a little bossy but not much gets to me. My ideal home would be experienced with my breed and willing to take the lead.

They call me Tito and I am a wonderful boy. I love people and I’m always happy to play but I am still learning how to be gentle. Like most puppies I do mouth occasionally but I am a quick learner and like to please. I can hardly wait to meet my new family!

I’m Reese. I love to be close and think cuddling is the best thing ever! I am deaf and prefer to be away from other dogs to relax but I’m learning that it’s okay to join the fun. I am pretty laid back but another stable canine in my new home would be ideal.

My name is Daisy and I am a smart & confident Pitty puppy. I love pleasing my people and playing with just about anyone but I am still a bit overwhelming for the cats. I always mean well! Once I settle in from the initial excitement of new people, smells & animals I am a very sweet little girl.

Spay Neuter Action Program I came from the pound with an abscess that required vet care. My name is Ben and I am very affectionate. I did very well with the other foster cats and have a great temperament. I’m not even fazed by adoption days. I am a very sweet and easy going boy. I am sponsored by The Siebert Family Thank you!

Our names are Cassy & Echo. We were left, abandoned in a box, along with our three other littermates at a rural acreage. We are very lucky we were picked up and can’t believe our luck knowing we are going to get loving homes.

I am Fernando. My family came upon hard times and the other five cats and I were given up. I am really active, energetic and love to play with wand toys. I am comfortable with the other cats during play time and like being brushed.

Everyone likes to call me Poptart. I came to SNAP as a young stray kitten with my three litter mates after we were found in the country last May. I am small, slender and get along with everyone. Everything is a toy to me, even my tail!

My name is Gus and I was a stray until I went to the Parkland Pound. Now I am with SNAP and I’m told one day I will have a loving family!!! I am an incredibly playful and friendly boy that will make a wonderful loving companion.

My name is Ziggy and I am a 9mth old Pug X. I am just 30lbs and I don’t think I will get much bigger. I am good with other dogs, cats and kids, and would make a good family dog. I am also crate trained and can hardly wait to find my forever home.

My name is Darla. I have been with SCARS for some time, but not because I have anything wrong with me. I’m a large girl, but I’m not sure on my breed. I love people and I am great on and off leash. I especially love going for quad rides, though I prefer the shorter ones to the longer ones. I love playing with my buddy Randy, however I can be a little picky on what dogs I call my friends. I’m about 2 - 3yrs old. I listen very well to my foster mom. I’m a beautiful Husky named Meela. What was thought to be a wound on my side was actually a tumour that had been left untreated but it has since been removed. I am very sweet and just want to be close to my person at all times. I am crate trained and walk like a dream on leash. I also seem to be ok with other dogs, though sometimes they make me nervous. I am very thin but we are working on that!

My name is Miss Daisy and I turned up just wandering the neighbourhood limping. I’m a beautiful & loving girl approaching middle age. I’ m not a big fan of other cats and dogs but mostly I just ignore them. I LOVE humans, and I LOVE attention, and I LOVE talking up a storm! Whenever you want to talk I’ll be right there to respond. The vets can’t figure out my limp yet but no worries there I can still jump up fine - especially to your lap! My name is Max. I am all cleaned up now but you should have seen me when I first arrived from the rural pound. I was an absolute mess, very badly matted and I smelled as bad as I looked! I am such a good (and clean!) boy and now you can see my cute little face. Please check out the SCARS website for previous pictures and more information on me. I can’t wait to meet you!

The volunteers named me Bamboo and I am a German Shepherd X. Me and knots, we have a relationship. I remove my kennel mate Zeus’s cone every day... really cones are so last year and a selfrespecting dog should not be wearing one! I am 9mths old, smart and well behaved. I am not a big of fan of cats, but I’m ok with other dogs and excellent with people.

Love the piercing blue eyes? My name is Chilie and I am approximately 2yrs old. I am a 60lb Husky/Beagle X. I do not care to be confined and would do well in a home where someone is home often. I would also do great on an acreage and with a little work I could be a fantastic agility dog. I can clear a 6’ fence! I am not fond of other female dogs but I love the boys! The volunteers named me Bamboo and I am a German Shepherd X. Me and knots, we have a relationship. I remove my kennel mate Zeus’s cone every day... really cones are so last year and a selfrespecting dog should not be wearing one! I am 9mths old, smart and well behaved. Please consider donating to help with my surgical cost.

I am Persia and I was rescued from an acreage where my owners once lived…but they moved and just left me behind with nothing. I was really sad at first, but once I got all my matt’s cut out, found a bed to sleep on and woke up in the morning to breakfast - I knew what it was like to have a family.

My name is Kink and this is my brother Timber. We are probably the biggest kitties you will ever meet. I am more rambunctious and my brother Timber is more of the snuggler so if we fit your description of a perfect kitty combo please come and meet us soon!

My name is Sushi and I have the softest fur ever. I was rescued from a family that was planning on leaving me on the highway because they no longer wanted me. I am a great cat though and just 3yrs old. I love to curl up on the bed and purr beside you.

She is training her service dog candidate “Haylie” to help mitigate her disability through cued behaviors, observation skills and presence. Maigen is training Haylie to become her Psychiatric Service Dog. Maigen and Haylie are a team with the Hope Heels Service Dog Team Building Institute, a charity that helps people with mental health disabilities to train their own service dog. “These people and these dogs come from all walks of life, and they are really making a difference in each other’s lives”, Says Kristine Aanderson, Executive Director at Hope Heels. “Both of our current service dogs were dogs that had other lives before they became service dog candidates with us.”

After the rescue group has identified a possible candidate, they will do a test of the dog’s temperament that involves seeing the dog’s natural reaction to novel things. Hope Heels is in the process of making small testing kits for rescue groups and shelters to use at their own location to do the initial testing of the dog. Hope Heels is looking to take this one step further by recruiting service dog candidates from rescue groups. In this new part of the program, Hope Heels will form relationships with rescues and shelters and inform them of what they are looking for in a good service dog candidate. 14

Aanderson says, “In general, we are looking for dogs who are smart, have medium to low energy level and love to please.” To be a successful service dog, they cannot be timid, have behavioral issues or have any history of aggression towards people or other animals.

Aanderson is confident, “We know that wonderful dogs go through this provinces’ rescues and shelters every year – and we are confident that some of them would make great service dogs.”

Hope Heels began training these service dog teams one year ago and utilizes a unique format where the person with the disability is the lead trainer of the dog. They work together with a coach (professional dog trainer) and a counselor to progress through Hope Heels’ innovative Levels Program, which ensures that each team progresses local stories...local people...local pets

evenly towards their goal of becoming a certified service dog team. They have recently expanded what they do to include more programming in Edmonton and a new program in Calgary. There are many ways that these dogs can help their trainers. Some general examples of how Psychiatric Service Dogs can help mitigate mental health disabilities are:

* Medication reminders; the dog can be trained to cue the trainer when they need to take their medication and retrieve a bag with their pills * Tasks for soldiers and veterans such as; “Watch my back” where the dog looks behind the veteran and paws them if someone is coming up behind them * Support system; allowing people who previously could not leave their house to go out into the world with confidence * In addition, training the dog builds self-esteem, provides opportunities to practice new skills and creates a

Hope Heels does all this work with volunteers and already has a long waiting list for their services. Hope Heels helps everyone they can, but they are constrained by their resources. They hope that acquiring dogs from rescue groups can help them find suitable candidate dogs, but they need resources to help these dogs reach their full potential. “This is just the beginning.” Aanderson notes. “With more resources, there is no telling how many lives can be helped through this program.” It’s a win-win scenario. T

he City of Edmonton is now offering a PET Grant for rescue groups in Edmonton. Although the City of Edmonton re-unites stray pets with owners through licensing and microchip programs, we rely on pet adoption agencies to help find new homes for pets left unclaimed at the Animal Care & Control Centre. The City is offering the PET Grant to Agencies to help support their efforts to find homes for pets. For many years the City has nurtured relationships with local pet adoption groups. Traditionally their services have been entirely voluntary and no payment has been made to them for their services. The PET Grant offers Agencies an opportunity to apply for funds that can help them continue their good work in our community. • Important Deadlines Applications are accepted on the 15th day of each month from August through November 2011.

3. Commitment that the Agency’s policy is that all dogs or cats are spayed or neutered and permanently ID’d prior to being adopted into the community.

Applications are evaluated and funding levels are determined by the end of each month on a first-come, first-serve basis while funds are available.

4. The Agency ensures that pet owners living in Edmonton license newly adopted cats and dogs with the City’s Animal Care & Control Centre.

• Who can apply?

5. For PET Grant requests the City considers the amount of funds requested, the project budget, the stated reason for funds, the benefits of the project to the community, and the comprehensiveness of the application.

Pet Rescue Agencies that meet the Criteria listed in the PET Grant Application. • What are the Criteria? 1. The Agency provides proof that it is a registered non-profit company in Alberta; their business goal is pet rescue/adoption. 2. The Agency provides proof of liability insurance of not less than $2 million inclusive limit for any one occurrence.

Beagle Paws Rescue Howdy all you dog lovers. My name is Copper and I am a stunning 2yr old copper Beagle. I have a wonderful & patient foster dad who is teaching me good manners. I am learning a lot but I’d really like to find my forever home. I’m great with other dogs but I do need an active lifestyle. If you ask me, I’d say I’m the perfect addition for your family!

My name is Keeper and I am the sweetest little Beagle you will ever meet. I was hit by a car a few months ago and suffered serious injuries. My foster mom was phenomenal about caring for me but now I’m ready for my very own home. I’m a bundle of energy and will need a well fenced yard to keep me safe. I really like to snuggle and will be a great companion.

Pet’s10 Commandments

1 2 3 4

My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

5 6 7

Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

8

Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me.. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9

Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

Give me time to understand what you want of me.

Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

10

On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can’t bear to watch. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so. ~ We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs! Anonymous

Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

Northern Spirit K9 Rescue My name is Bella and I am 3-4yr old very sweet Pit-bull X who loves everyone. I am a wonderful girl who came from a southern shelter where my time was up. I get along well with other dogs, cats and kids. I have very nice manners, great recall and I am a happy girl who is always smiling when I’m near. I am also already leash, house & crate trained. I am such a grateful little soul and will shower you with kisses to let you know how thankful I am for your love and care.

Rescue For Life My name is Dana and I’m an 11wk old little American Eskimo/Collie X. I’m told that I’m really smart because I already know how to let everyone know that I need to use the washroom. I enjoy other dogs and cats too. I am convinced that the resident cats are just playing hard to get - they really must secretly adore me! I love cuddling up and I’m pretty outgoing.

It’s Lola here! I am a 5mth old Lab X. I was rescued from a dump with my brother but he was recently adopted. We were two peas in a pod but now it’s just me waiting for my new family to find me. I love playing but I enjoy my quiet time too. I walk great on leash and I already know how to sit, stay, come, and lie down. Everyone who meets me falls in love and you will too!

Hello out there! I’m Zara, I was rescued all by myself and just in the nick of time. I had started losing all my fur due to malnutrition & stress but I am doing much better now. I am a 4mth old delicate little Lab X and I think I will be about 40lbs when I’m done growing. I have a quiet, friendly & gentle personality, and I am great with other dogs & cats. I also LOVE to be cuddled.

It’s pretty Penny here! I am a 6mth old Lab/ Pom X. I used to be pretty shy but I have really come out of my shell. I am already house & kennel trained, and I know how to sit. I am working on how to ‘stay’ but that’s a hard one. I love to play fetch and I am good with other dogs, cats and quieter kids. I am great on or off leash and I like the water but I am not sure about all those ducks in the ponds!

My name is Lucas and despite being the tiniest guy in my litter I don’t let anyone pick on me! I am a curious & playful pup who loves to meet new people and gets along with everyone and everything. My favorite thing is to cuddle up into your neck – but I am a little bit worried that I won’t be able to do that when I get bigger! I also love playing and my chewy bones.

Barrhead Animal Rescue Society (BARS)

Jasper here, I am a big sweetheart. I am a Pyrenees X and I adore long walks and playtime with anyone. I’m a little shy but warm up quickly to new people. Sometimes I like to pretend I’m a lapdog! I need a home with a large yard or acreage because I will be BIG. I am just 3mths old and already weigh 28lbs.

I’m Lady. I am a 1yr old Border Collie X who is very friendly, active and smart. I love toys and I am good with other dogs...but I still like trying to play with cats. I love going for runs and have a sweet personality. I would do well in something like agility or flyball and need to stay active.

Hey my name is Hunter. I’m a Pyrenees X around 3mths old that looks like a black bear. I love to play and run and chase my brother Jasper. I get along great with other animals. I am learning quickly and would love a new home with a large yard or acreage… I am already 26lbs!

They call me Frankie! I am about 2-3yrs old and have long silky hair. I am shy at first but intensely curious and I LOVE laser lights! I get along well with other cats & dogs, and I love to be close by. I am friendly with children but I do require some grooming (which I enjoy!).

Whatever kind of paw...they’ll love you all the same! New Beginnings Rabbit Rescue My name is Dancer and I am Comet’s & Prancer’s sister. Can you spot me in this picture? Well you should - I am too super cute to miss amongst the imposters! I like chewing apart bunny toys and I would do very well with another boy bunny but prefer that he be more of the submissive type.

I am a shy girl named Prancer and I would like a quiet home as I am a bit on the skittish side. I enjoy chewing up empty toilet paper rolls & you will never see me turn down a papaya treat!!! I am looking for a home that can help me come out of my shell & give me plenty of one on one.

I am a feisty & vocal 2yr old girl named Nanou who likes to be boss. I adore hiding in the big hay container here to have a nap or just for some peace & quiet. As you can see by my picture I am dressed up as a witch for Halloween. I sure wish I could cast a spell to find a “furever” home.

Hey there! My name is Comet and I am Prancer’s brother but I am the complete opposite of my sister. I LOVE attention and if you like cuddling then I am your man. I would do pretty good as a buddy for another bunny…that is if someone will come & adopt my cute adorable self!!!

I’m Skittles. I like to grunt like my sister Nanou but I am not as vocal as her. My favorite time is dinner time! I run to my bowl as fast as I can when I am getting my pellets and I like to play with my food. I also love to dive under a fresh pile of hay & eat it from the bottom up. I am one silly girl!

Grail Festival In Review

S

aturday September 17, was a flurry of activity at the Ritchie Community Centre, where time turned back to the medieval ages. Knights donned their attire and were accompanied by ladies dressed in their finest flowing gowns. Activities throughout the day included Mystical Readers, Fun Body Art, Crafts and much more. Needless to say, organizers of the event, Brenda Walsh, Jodie Badry and Alice Powell spared nothing in making this creative fundraising event for six local rescue organizations a resounding success. The lucky recipients of the funds raised through a silent auction and a myriad of “cool items for sale where: Second Chance Animal Rescue Society, Little Cats Lost (Trap-Neuter-Return) Society, For The Love Of Great Danes, Whitecourt Homeless Animal Rescue Foundation, Edmonton Reptile & Amphibian Society, and The Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton.

You may think that pets can withstand the cold better than we can, but in sub-zero temperatures they need a warm place to shelter, this doesn’t have to be your house. Even northern breed dogs need an escape from the bitter weather of winter. Provide outdoor dogs with a well insulated, heated dog house, or an area in your garage that will keep them warm and out of the cold. 22
