Principal's Foreword It is with great fulfilment and pride that we share with you our 2014 School Magazine. This issue captures school life from Jul 2013 to Nov 2014 and serves as a parting memento for our Primary 6 graduands. Here in our school, we have been steadfast in delivering the promise in our mission, “To Provide Quality Education to Nurture Wholesome Individuals” and developing “A Life-long Learner. A Virtuous Leader”, as encapsulated in our vision for every child who passes through our hands. This issue is organised into four broad themes. In “Our Lakeside Family”, you will meet the different groups of people who make up our special family – a family who cares deeply for one another and our pupils. We highlight our collective efforts to nurture our pupils under “Every Individual C.A.N”. This theme is meaningful and specially chosen as it has been our guiding philosophy that Every Individual C.A.N - Contribute, Achieve and be Nurtured. Many exciting activities in our school calendar are captured in “Unity in Diversity” and “Celebrating and Appreciating One Another”. In the former, you will see how our pupils foster relationships with one another and forge unity as a community. The latter highlights how we celebrate and appreciate what our Lakeside family stands for. We have made an intentional decision to feature more photographs in this issue of the magazine. After all, a picture speaks a thousand words. I take heart that we have a strong team of teachers and support staff working closely with supportive parents, our school advisory committee and the community, stakeholders and partners to nurture every child. Thank you, Team! Enjoy this publication! Mrs Wang-Tan Sun Sun Principal 14 November 2014

Staff Activities Professional Development Aligned with the MOE’s Teacher Growth Model (TGM) that presents a holistic portrait of the 21st century Singapore teacher, the school has a staff development system that helps all our teachers achieve the five desired outcomes of The Ethical Educator, The Competent Professional, The Collaborative Learner, The Transformational Leader and The Community Builder. Teachers continually rekindle their passion for teaching and enhance their competencies in a life-long quest.

12

Staff Seminars The twice yearly staff seminar provides a platform for the teaching and non-teaching staff to bond and at the same time, review, reflect and refine school policies and programmes.

13

Learning Journeys Our annual staff learning journeys have provided authentic learning experiences to enhance knowledge and widen perspectives.

14

Contributing to our Community The members of staff do not just come together for professional development. Relationships are also developed over activities that enable us to contribute back to our community and environment, like our “Values in Action” project at the Chinese Garden where we constructed “floating wetlands”.

44

We Can Contribute! We believe that it is important to give, and not only receive. Our pupils take part in activities that allow them to contribute to the people around them. These activities also encourage them to live the school values that they have learnt.

Values in Action Values In Action (VIA) is a learning experience in Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) that enhances our pupils’ development as socially responsible citizens through ownership of their contribution to the school and community.

45

Taking Up Leadership Positions in School Student Leadership @ Lakeside provides pupils with opportunities to serve the school and the community. Through various events and outreach programmes, pupils hone their public leadership skills and shine as leaders and role models to their peers.

46

Hosting Visitors for our Open House The Open House was held on 26 April 2014. Our pupils were impressive as they confidently led our younger visitors through the various activities that had been planned for them.

47

Hosting Overseas Visitors Our Lakeside family warmly welcomed our friends from our sister school, Caotang Primary School, in Term 3.

48

Participating in Community Events Our pupils contribute back to the Taman Jurong Community by sharing their knowledge and skills and putting up performances at the various community events.

The joint performance between the pupils from our very own Lakeside Concert Band and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Band of course!
