DOTS, STRIPES & ICE CREAM HOUSE OF HOLLAND STORE OPENS AT SIAM PARAGON

Page 6 www.bangkokscene.com

Irreverent British designer Henry Holland has arrived in Thailand in a swirl of colour, with his new Siam Paragon outlet showing off the brand s latest Nana Rave range. Harking back to 1989, and the second summer of love, the vibrant streetwise acid house atmosphere of the new Autumn/Winter collection offers psychedelic reminiscences in neon bright pop tones. Nana Rave is inspired by the nana look prevalent in the East End of London, with bright young things donning nighties and bovver boots. Henry has taken the look to heart and embellished it with printed jeans, pop socks, fur hoodies and tortoiseshell baseball caps. To celebrate the store opening, Siam Paragon organised a party along the theme of dots, stripes and ice cream , with guests transported into a colourful wonderland with decorated ice cream trucks serving sky blue gelato. Following the successful launch of the House of Holland collection at Contemp Salon, a multilabel designer store owned by The Mall Group, we have decided to open the firstever House of Holland shop at Paragon Department Store in response to the incredible feedback. House of Holland s inspiration is always fun, edgy, and hip. This kind of style is easily capturing the market. Yet, the brand is so young and fresh, and this is what we are looking for from the designer. The shop is exclusively operated and features Henry s own design and concept. It features ready to wear, accessories and eyewear ranges , said Ms. Prissa Puranasamriddhi, senior brand and business development manager. Words and photos by Paul Hutton.

Bangkok residents and visitors will get the chanc to experience innovative and ground breaking performances from various dance theatres from such countries as Italy, India, Singapore, Israel, Turkey and Thailand. The festival will run from 22nd November to 5th December at Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre (BACC) and 2nd6th December at the Art Centre at Chiang Mai University.

Executive Chef Satjar Thongsrikaew

Medinii

Top Class Fare Served High Above Sukhumvit Serving Italian cuisine with an Asian flavour, the loftily positioned Medinii sits on the 35th floor of the Continent Hotel, high above the bustling Asoke/Sukhumvit traffic hub. The restaurant has 180 degree views to die for, and takes in both east bound and west bound stretches of Sukhumvit Road, Lake Ratchada, Exchange Tower and Terminal 21, with the Chao Phraya River even viewable in the distance. The winning views are matched by an equally winning menu, with the venue proving popular throughout the day. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Medinii is the perfect place for an office outing or a more romantic and private dinner for two. Seating options include suspended benches, formal settings for groups of visitors, and secluded private dining areas where you can just get away from the rest of the world and watch the twinkling lights of the city and its traffic flows. With high ceilings and full length windows, the restaurant makes the most of the downtown panorama, with floor to ceiling wall panels that can be adjusted to provide just the right amount of dining privacy. Nicely priced lunch and dinner buffets include a tantalising array of dishes that ensure the restaurant is nearly always full, especially on weekday office lunch breaks, when Medinii seems to entice a crowd of healthy appetites from among the many office workers in the area.

Latest Offers/Happy Hours/Happenings La Lanta to Host Shin Koyama Exhibition

La Lanta Fine Art Gallery is to host a debut solo exhibition in Thailand by Japanese artist Shin Koyama. The motifs in Shin Koyama's work are borrowed from traditional Japanese imagery and reflect his interest in creating a new hybrid aesthetic called Ero Guro Kawai . Ero Guro was a concept in art and literature in Japan as far back as the early 1900's. Kawaii, or cute, is a more recent fetish. The work strangely mixes elements of the erotic, the grotesque and the cute to make comic narratives and absurd dramatic scenes. Koyama's irreverent aesthetic reflects a complex response to contemporary problems in Japan and the world. Shin Koyama is an AustralianJapanese artist who is most wellknown for his use of mangastyle motifs and comically grotesque imagery on traditional materials such as porcelain. In 2013 Koyama established his studio in Arita, the home of Japanese blue and white porcelain, in order to initiate c ollaborations with local kilns. The exhibition will be on display at La Lanta Fine Art from November 16th until December 21st, 2013.

Guitar s Electr

When Guitar Patinya was a young girl growing up in the south of Thailand she first became interested in fashion through her mother, who was always a fan of stylish clothes, and her grandmother, who was a tailor and taught the young Guitar how to draw, cut and sew clothes. As she grew older her mind was set on becoming a fashion designer, and, after graduating at university, she went to London to study the industry at the University of the Arts. On her return she opened her first shop in Siam Square, and worked as fashion editor at Seventeen magazine. She describes her five years at Siam Square as a serious hobby, but, after designing a collection of around 15 designs, she felt it was time to launch a professional brand, and Patinya was launched. Guitar gives her main motivations for her designs as coming from personal experiences, either through travel or from relationships with boyfriends and acquaintances. Page 36 www.bangkokscene.com

ric Collection Her new collection is called The Stronger Inner Me and is devoted to every woman who has become stronger through relationship breakups or work setbacks. She believes that every woman is sexy and hopes that the designs reflect the sexy strength of women.

The new collection was exhibited at Elle Fashion Week in October to great acclaim, and she is already working on her new theme, which will take the clothes that she has observed in Moscow as the inspiration, while taking the culture and history of Russia to heart. Guitar s clothes have been described as urban, elegant and sensational with day to night outfits designed to be adaptable enough for the workplace and evenings out. Sophisticated pattern making is the basis of all designs, while fine tailoring quality ensures an elegant end product.

Latest Offers/Happy Hours/Happenings Rolls Royce Debuts Majestic Horse Collection

RollsRoyce Motor Cars has announced the debut of the Majestic Horse Collection a limited number of Bespoke RollsRoyce Ghosts that take inspiration from classical interpretations of the horse in traditional Chinese art. The cars present a contemporary reimagining of the traditional Chinese representation of the horse in beautifully handcrafted marquetry to the dashboard and embroidery to the headrest and cushions. The exterior is exquisitely finished with horse motif, handapplied to the twin coachlines. The collection also times with the Chinese Zodiac, Year of the Horse, being celebrated in 2014. The convergence of two key themes of this highly auspicious year can be seen in the dashboard s handcrafted marquetry. In traditional Chinese cultures, an element is celebrated in conjunction with an animal. For the first time in over half a century, the element wood and the horse are marked in the same year. Customers from around the world choose to commission motor cars that celebrate cultural stories and occasions. It is testament to the creativity and flexibility of RollsRoyce s Bespoke design team that these requests can be beautifully executed, said Gavin Hartley, Bespoke Design Manager. It is most satisfying to celebrate both this highly auspicious year in Chinese culture and our craftspeoples mastery of wood. The creation of the Majestic Horse Ghost follows a period of exceptional growth in demand for Bespoke personalisation in Asia commissions from China are up 103% yearonyear, whilst an increase of 69% has been observed in the wider AsiaPacific region.
