A buffet station near the open kitchen provides great selections at breakfast, lunch and dinner, while a la carte dishes feature a predominant mix of traditional Thai dishes and western favourites. The buffet selection includes a fresh juice bar, egg station with daily specials, fruits, fresh pastry selection, cold cut corner, waffle and crepe station, tempting yet healthy options and popular Asian specialities. An ice well chills the fresh fruit and juices; induction plates keep warm dishes at correct temperatures and a pastry oven ensures that the homemade breads are baked to perfection. Choices include oysters from France, mussels from New Zealand, juicy local prawns, Mediterranean cold meats and homemade ice cream. Live cooking stations prepare fresh pasta dishes and serve succulent prime cuts from Australia.

Up and Above restaurant is also combining popular Thai and international buffet choices with tempting dishes from an à la carte menu every Sunday, with a lunch that includes freeflow top quality French champagne and an impressive range of cocktails, wines and beers.

By offering an à la carte menu we can ensure that selections such as Wagyu beef and Australian saltbush lamb are prepared individually for each guest. This enhances considerably the dining experience and adds real value, setting new standards that will be hard to match. Up and Above is open seven days a week. Dining options are as follows:

This is Sunday buffet at its best. Our guests can choose main course dishes prepared to order (a la minute) from the à la carte menu. We are combining the very best of Asian and Western flavours from sushi and sashimi with sake, fine de claire oysters, lobster and succulent Scottish salmon to a wide and appetising selection of Thaiflavoured dishes, says Chef Jachnarong Taksapagarn (above).

Aloft Bangkok: Sukhumvit 11 Hotel Offers a New Twist in Travel Guests checking in at the trendy inner city Aloft Bangkok are often surprised to be given a Samsung mobile device on checkin, rather than the traditional key. The device is their key to enjoyment in the Generation Y friendly hotel, unlocking doors, operating all room amenities, connecting to all facilities, ordering room service, playing music, unlocking movies and connecting back to the lobby from outside trips. Aloft prides itself on being a nowalls, nolimits space with free flowing energy amid a fresh design, so that guests can celebrate

their own style in their own unique way. Even the names of the outlets are ultra modern: sample live music from hip DJs with signature cocktails in w xyz bar, play a session of pool at re:mix lounge, work on the abs at re:charge fitness centre or attack the snacks at re:fuel, the 24/7 café. Splash provides the best of both worlds, switching from relaxing poolside evenings with cool mood lighting to pumping beat driven pool parties just for the see and be seen set.

The hotel s wine bar and restaurant, Crave, is no different, with staff offering guests the menu on up to the minute tablet devices, each displaying everything that a traditional menu would, and then some more. Even the cuisine is creative here, with a 360 degree open kitchen, which forms the centrepiece of the outlet, producing modern fusion creations for a discerning audience. Here you can find an outdoor zone designed for chilling out on large comfy sofas with a glass of wine from Crave s much more than adequate wine cellar. Aloft provides jetsetting style at a steal with all mod cons in one of the most trendy sois in all of Bangkok.

Upside Down Xmas Photos by Paul Hutton and Courtesy of Siam Center

Inverted Festivities Begin at Siam Center Siam Center has created another major phenomenon in Asia s art and design with the unveiling of a world class art installation called INvertical, in a collaboration with SOFTlab, the New Yorkbased owner of world class unique art pieces, with art creations created in several countries around the world. SOFTlab s credential is guaranteed by several awards such as the Architectural League Prize for Young Architects & Designers and the New Practices New York Award by AIA Chapter New York. SOFTlab s art pieces are on display in many high class art museums such as MOMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New York Hall of Science. This phenomenal art piece is designed using firstrate innovations and techniques customized especially for Siam Center. Chadatip Chutrakul, CEO of Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., said, Siam Center: The Ideaopolis, as the Thailand s No. 1 hub for creativity and inspiration, is committed to promote, disseminate and push Thailand s art community with the utmost effort. The area of our particular interest is the show of design work and innovation as well as new ideas from design artists around the world.

Page 44 www.bangkokscene.com

We want to make those interested in art learn and get inspired endlessly. We will hold shows continually in accordance with our intention to make Bangkok a major landmark city in Asia s art community. And this time around, Siam Center is honoured by world class artist SOFTlab, who comprise three designers led Michael Szivos with his team of designers Elizabeth Anne and Alexandra Mikaela Marla. They are behind some uniquely creative works of art that are widely acknowledged internationally. They have worked in a major collaboration to create a sculpture called INvertcal, by putting every effort into channeling different ideas and imaginations to create this stunner. We will give an opportunity for youngsters and people who have a passion for art to experience the beauty of art and trendy innovation in a new form of design that is a rare sight. But Siam Center is proud to present this giant phenomenal art piece to Thais and Asians for the first time. Interested members of the public can come and see for themselves at Atrium 2 on the ground floor of Siam Center. Siam Center has also made the installation area a live design studio to present creations of world class artists in the form of reality shows to allow interested members of the public to watch the artists work up close from start to finish. There will be a countdown to watching a finished beautiful art piece together. Siam Center has opened for students of design from Chulalongkorn, Silpakorn and Bangkok Universities to learn through reallife experience by working with world class designers and by playing a part in creating the Christmas Tree with SOFTlab s team. The ultimate sculpture INvertical is created under the upside down concept where the piece is hung down from the ceiling above the Atrium 2 area in Siam Center. The piece is created from special red and silver Mylar materials developed by SOFTlab using a customised technique. The art piece will be covered with LEDs to make every component shine and glow. The components are designed to have different sizes which are handassembled from the base up to the top to create a priceless largescale sculpture that is installed upside down from the ceiling. Mr. Michael Szivos, the owner and founder of SOFTlab, said the art piece is created especially for Siam Center. It is the first time SOFTlab has come to Asia for an art exhibition. INvertical is inspired by one of the most iconic western cultural icons of the winter season. The upside down design of the art piece presents a different idea for Siam lovers to experience a unique, different art phenomenon in terms of elements, inverted gravity, all created into an upside down Christmas tree that is outstanding over five metres in diameter and up to 10 metres high. The shape not only becomes structural, but will produce a sense of wonder and surprise as visitors move around the piece. The materials used to create the piece are developed by SOFTlab using a customised technique. They comprise over 4,000 Mylar translucent red and reflective silver sheets that are very thin and light and suitable for designing hanging art pieces. The installation will be covered in over 1,200 LEDs which will make the Christmas tree glow in the day time and look even more strikingly beautiful when touched by night lights. For INvertcal, it took SOFTlab s team over three months to prepare, produce and prepare materials which were then cut into pieces in New York to be assembled together at Siam Center. Latest Offers/Happy Hours/Happenings 808 Festival is Ready to Get Bangkok on its Feet

Bingo Players

DJ Chuckie

808 Festival, a supercharged international beat buffet, is all set to rock the ears and dancing feet of Bangkok on December 9th at Bitec. Anchoring the beatfest is US music producer/DJ/party guy Steve Aoki. No stranger to Thai dance floors, the original partystarter has passed through the city many times on his relentless global touring circuit. Famous for his partyparticipation DJing style, he has worked with the big names of the current era including peers Tiesto, Afrojack and many others through his Dim Mak Records label. On top of his growing list of accolades is an eighth placing on DJ Mag s world poll for 2013. He has also headlined some of the best international festivals this year such as Tomorrowland, Ultra and Global Gathering, to name but a few. Dropping the big beats alongside Aoki will be Dutch duo Bingo Players, known for their charttopping single Get Up (Rattle) . Also with an epic touring schedule, Bingo Players have over 30 worldwide music festivals under their belts including Tomorrowland, Stereosonic, Ultra, Electric Zoo and a primetime slot at Electric Daisy Carnival: Vegas. Not to be left out of the mix, Bassjackers aka Marlon Flohr and Ralph van Hilst will chime in their infectious grooves to get you movin . The duo of talent quickly rose to fame with Beat Cut and dance floor bomb Mush Mush , which got picked up by Tiesto. This year has also seen them put up big tracks Crackin , Zing and Raise Those Hands in collaboration with fellow Dutchman R3hab. Rounding out the international lineup is the Amsterdambased Chuckie, who has risen to fame with chart toppers such as Let The Bass Kick and Aftershock , in which he spreads the Chuckie flavor with his explosive beats, surprise FXs and adulated climaxes. Local support on the night will come from homegrown DJ duo SuperrZaaap, Lingdum, Skinny Mark and Zuper L.
