Japan Fashion Week Siam Center has partnered with the Japanese government and the Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO) for Siam Center Presents Japan Fashion Week in Bangkok, an all-out exposition of top fashion items from Japan in Thailand that brings together over 10 of the hottest leading brands from the country on Bangkok s trendiest fashion street. The event features an exhibition of Japanese-style art and fashion with collections presented in pop up stores. It will be held until 16th March at Idea Avenue on the first floor of Siam Center. Japan Fashion Week is one of the year s biggest expositions of fashion collections by Japanese designers. It is also the most recognised event in Japan s fashion community. JFW brings together the latest fashion collections by famous Japanese
designers and creative newcomers and is held twice a year. JFW has been held in many of the world s fashion metropolises, including England, France, the United States, Italy, Russia, India, China, Hong Kong and Singapore. This year Thailand has been chosen for the first time as one of JFW s venues, with Siam Center designated as the host. One of the highlights not to be missed by fashion fans is a Japanese fashion art exhibition which brings masterpieces by Japanese designers up close to Thai people. Among the exciting exhibits is a crystal costume by Christian Dada the Hollywood masterpiece was made famous by Lady Gaga who rocked it on stage at MTV Aid Japan Awards 2011 in Japan.

In the first decade of the 20th century America was booming and onto this scene in 1909 was born the Chivas Regal 25; the world s first luxury whisky had become the toast of high society. JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok s Executive Chef Michael Hogan worked closely with mixologist Mr. Will, and together they married the art of dining with great beverages. Guests enjoyed smoked barron point oysters, mushroom vol-au-vents, Japanese Hokkaido Beef Burger with miso gravy and cured scallop with cured lemon and lime bitters. For the main act, New York s artisan claypot-baked bread served with Manhattan clam chowder, Atlantic salmon cured in lemongrass sugar, US CAB Prime Beef tenderloin or choice of Black pepper crusted Snowfish and the grand finale with Golden s Smoked Valrhona flowerless chocolate cake. All dishes were paired perfectly with Chivas Regal cocktail creations by mixologist Mr. Will. Gracing the event was jazz singer extraordinaire Richard Jackson who exuded his musical style during dinner. An after party followed at the Manhattan Bar.

Our menu at The Rock explores age-old recipes from different Thai provinces, reinterpreting classics in a fresh, modern way. We use seasonal ingredients locally sourced where possible to recreate the authentic flavours of traditional Siamese cuisine, imbued with a contemporary sensibility for the twenty-first century palate. Cocktails have been specially designed by the world famous mixologist Joseph Boroski. The Rock cocktail menu will rotate every few months. We have bottles of wine starting from 950THB with some great selections from around the world. House wine is also available. An exciting imported beer rotating list will be launched in the middle of March. Opening Hours are from 5:30pm to midnight daily except Sundays.

German Film Weekends 2014 at Esplanade Ratchadapisek
German cinema is coming to Bangkok! From March 12 - 30, 2014 the Goethe-Institut Thailand together with Esplanade Cineplex Ratchadapisek is hosting the German Film Weekends 2014. While during the last two years seven movies were shown during one week, this year s edition will show contemporary German movie highlights on Saturdays and Sundays from 4 pm at Esplanade Cineplex Ratchadapisek. One of the special guests at the Opening Reception on March 12 at 5:30 PM will be Khun Kriengsak Silakong (Victor), head of the Bangkok World Cinema Festival, who will share his experiences from this year s Berlin International Film Festival 2014. Moreover, this year s film selection is very multifaceted from comedies to dramas and children s films. Although the films might not have a lot in common at first glance, they all depict an interesting view into life in Germany and German culture. The opening movie of the festival will be the film Lessons of a Dream which is based on the true story of the teacher Konrad Koch who brought the game of football to Germany. Another highlight of the festival is Christian Petzold s Barbara. This award-winning drama depicts the story of the Eastern German doctor Barbara who wanted to flee socialist GDR but was consequently harassed by the secret police. Also, the short film collection Short and Sweet in Hollywood marks one of the highlights of this year s German Film Weekends. While on the first look all these works may differ greatly, they have one thing in common: they were all either nominated for, or won, a much-coveted Oscar. The children s film Two Times Lotte will bring the German Film Weekends 2014 to a close. Based on the children s classic book of the same name by Erich Kästner, the black and white movie from 1950 tells the story of two uncannily look alike girls who meet in summer camp where they discover that they are actually twins. As well as earning the title The S. Pellegrino Asia s Best Restaurant, it is also named The S. Pellegrino Best Restaurant in Thailand. Now in its second year, Asia s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna and organised by William Reed Business Media, announced the 2014 winners at an elegant awards ceremony at Capella Hotel, Singapore. At Nahm, Australian-born chef David Thompson celebrates the bold flavours of authentic Thai cuisine by reviving and reinterpreting centuries-old recipes of former Thai matriarchs. NEXT will also create a branded concept for the project. Lost in Paradise A Photographic Exhibition by Lek Kiatsirikajorn
1 March 27 April 2014 at Kathmandau Photo Gallery [Opening party on Sat 1 Mar at 6.30 9.00 pm] Lek Kiatsirikajorn s recently completely project, Lost in Paradise focuses on rural workers who have left their region of origin to work and live in Bangkok, existing in a no man s land of urban settlements where, paradoxically, nature is beginning to reassert its authority. Through these images Lek aims to present an allegory for modern Thailand: the country as a whole, like these workers, left its past of agriculture behind in search of a better life, but now finds itself trapped between this lost history and a better future which seems to remain just out of reach. Lost in Paradise was produced with the support of the Quai Branly museum in Paris. Lek was one of the three selected photographers for the 2012 photography grant. Thirteen of the 22 images from this series were included in the museum s photography collection. Born in 1977, Lek Kiatsirikajorn studied painting at Silpakorn University in Bangkok before switching to photography, which interested him with its potential for outreach. He was a promising young artist on the Thai scene in 2001 when he decided to move to England and study photography at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth. Lek has been working commercially, as well as working on his personal photography projects since he came back. He has also been exhibiting internationally.
