Hoogewijs Unveiled as
Page 18 www.bangkokscene.com
Vincent Hoogewijs has recently taken up tenure as General Manager at Four Seasons Bangkok, where he will oversee operations as Regional Vice President. This marks Vincent s second term working in the Thai capital, and he is relishing the prospect of absorbing the local colour and flair of the city once more by walking the streets at night and eating from local family run restaurants. It s great to be back in bustling Bangkok, and the vibe of the city is just incredible. It feels more energetic than ever! said Vincent. When you live and breathe the luxury lifestyle, it s essential to re-ground yourself when you have downtime. Vincent also likes to keep fit by cycling, and he has already visited the new cycle track at Suvarnabumhi on several occasions to try out the sweeping 25 kilometre all-weather surface track which runs around the perimeter of the airport. Hailing from Lokeren, in Belgium, Vincent previously worked at Four Seasons Hotels in Sydney, Mumbai, México and Bangkok, Hyatt hotels in Dubai, Tokyo, Osaka, Surabaya, Rabat, Macau, Coolum, Canberra, London and Brussels, The Palace at the Lost City in South Africa and The Banyan Tree in Phuket. Fluent in four languages, and competent in a fifth, Vincent arrives back in Bangkok with his Belgian wife and their two teenage children; they are a tight unit with a healthy appreciation for simple, natural pleasures and they like to spend their spare time camping or touring in camper vans. It s the best way to recharge the batteries, reassess what s important and simply enjoy being together, Vincent explains. His hobbies are similarly down to earth and include nature-oriented activities such as hiking, fishing, cycling and walking. Growing up, Hoogewijs wanted to become a chef and open his own restaurant. Still fairly young when he finished his studies, he took a hotel management course and was bitten by the bug. His career began with restaurant positions before moving on to hotel operations. He describes life as a Four Seasons General Manager as a four-fold structure: one that involves having ultimate responsibility for the happiness of a hotel s owners, guests, employees and on a personal level his own family. Since Vincent and his wife will soon be empty-nesters (their daughter is attending university in Brussels and their son will so head to Leuven University), they plan to spend some of their free time exploring the lesser known sides of Thailand, getting off the beaten track and experiencing some of the abundant nature that the country has to offer. Vincent has worked in 13 countries to date, and views every move as a new adventure. He lived his life according to the mantra of Four Seasons long before he joined the company in 2004. It s such a valid philosophy, he explains. As long as you treat people as you want to be treated yourself, you can survive anywhere.
