About Us! We started out with a simple vision! To support local farmers and small businesses in the West Valley! It seems like there are more markets to choose from in the Phoenix area and east side of Arizona. We wanted to bring that kind of privilege to the wonderful people in the west valley! We strive to be able to support our local farmers, small businesses, Mom owned businesses, health minded businesses and the local west valley communities. It is a wonderful thing to be able to meet the farmers and other local companies who put love and hard work into their product that they provide for you! A place where you can actually ask when your produce was harvested or what the difference between an heirloom tomato and typical tomato is.
BETTER THAN ORGANIC!!! Did you know that it costs nearly $25,000 a year for a farmer to certify his farm as “organic”? That is typically not realistic for local, small farmers! Of course we support organic…BUT (even more so) we support the small farmers who chose to go above and beyond the FDA “organic“ guidelines. Even though they may not certify their farms with the FDA, they chose to use organic farming methods. They practice using organic or all natural pesticides or (the best thing)…NO pesticides at all!!! It is nothing short of HARD work! If you have ever tried to grow anything in even a small garden…you know that it is a lot of work to keep the critters away. It is so disappointing to see produce get ruined by bugs, but you KNOW at the end of the day that you didn’t compromise the integrity of your food. Even though most local farmers are unable to pay for the certification, they chose to grow their produce using the practices that the organic farmers use. They just may not be able to afford to purchase that infamous sticker! (Which is fine by us because that usually means a rise in prices anyway) Even with “organic” farms…that doesn’t mean “pesticide FREE”! They are still allowed to use a watered down pesticide that is just a diluted version of what a non-organic farmer uses. Now…some may chose to go above and beyond the guidelines! By Eva Louis, Health Passion Now Acidity impacts the body in ways most don’t know. I’ve been on a health kick for a while and have talked to many professionals, fitness coaches, and healers. There are many programs that exist and it takes some time to go through all the information and education that is available in order to identify products or solutions that can help you. One of the key areas that you have to understand is acidity in the body. Acidity relates to one’s pH balance in the body. This can be tested through using simple over the counter pH test strips sold at drug stores or available through some wellness centers. These tests will represent your pH factor. They have urine and saliva tests available. Healthy body pH range is between 6.0 to 7.5 out of 10. The best alkaline level is between 8 and 10 which is the highest. Mild acidosis which is a common diagnosis is known to be responsible for such problems as: cardiovascular damage, including the constriction of blood vessels and the reduction of oxygen; weight gain, obesity and diabetes; bladder and kidney conditions, including kidney stones; immune deficiency; acceleration of free radical damage, possibly contributing to cancerous mutations; hormone concerns; premature aging; osteoporosis; weak, brittle bones, hip fractures and bone spurs; joint pain, aching muscles and lactic acid buildup; low energy and chronic fatigue; slow digestion and elimination; yeast/fungal overgrowth. In the US, what has been discovered is that the American diet is the most common cause of issues with the acidity levels. We consume too many acid-producing processed foods as well as using too many drugs that are acid-forming. All these are contributing factors to unbalanced pH levels in the body. One of the products I have come across that deals with alkalizing water is an Energy Cup made by Juuva. MY LIFE is excited to announce that our seventh annual MY Fest will take place Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 12-5 p.m. MY Fest is a FREE music, art, entertainment and youth involvement festival hosted by MY LIFE (Magellan Youth Leaders Inspiring Future Empowerment) to raise awareness about mental health, substance abuse, foster care and other issues facing youth and young adults. MY Fest 2013 drew a crowd of nearly 9,000 people and featured 80 youth and family serving community and social service organizations. This free community event has become the largest-ever youth led and organized event in the country drawing attention to behavioral health issues. MY LIFE youth and their supporters have produced 6 MY Fest events in Arizona that have inspired and educated over 30,000 community members about mental health, substance abuse and foster care-related issues in order to share resources, create awareness and reduce stigma associated with these issues. MY LIFE is made up of youth between the ages of 13 and 23 who have experience with mental health, substance abuse, juvenile justice and foster carerelated issues. Through regular meetings, special events and local and national workshops, presentations and performances, the group focuses on important issues affecting youth. MY LIFE is turning youth voice into youth action and is playing a vital role in helping to improve the community programs and systems. Additionally, the group is responsible for advising behavioral health professionals, community stakeholders and government officials on the issues affecting child/adolescent and young adult programs and services, and providing outreach to help reduce the stigma associated with being a young person living with a mental illness and/or substance abuse issues. MY LIFE members provide support for their peers; develop critical skills in LEADERSHIP, mentoring and mental health resiliency; act as advisors to local officials to help improve services and systems that serve youth; and provide a much-needed voice in the community to COMBAT the STIGMA associated with behavioral health issues. Simply put MY LIFE provides a venue where youth can overcome their personal challenges with SUPPORT from their PEERS, develop and hone their leadership skills, and use their voices to INSPIRE and create positive CHANGE for themselves and others in the community. In addition to helping youth individually, MY LIFE also has been very beneficial to programs and systems that serve youth by bringing about
changes to IMPROVE CARE for youth in Arizona and across the nation. Moreover, MY LIFE Arizona youth have been instrumental in starting four additional groups in southeastern Pennsylvania and two groups in Louisiana, with more than 400 youth now involved nationally in MY LIFE.
