How do you Advertise and Market your Business?
Business owners today dread advertising their business. But the truth is that if you don’t put the word out about your business you won’t be in Business. It really comes down to what avenues are available, how effective they will be, timing and cost. Let’s talk about the different types of advertising for just a moment. You could put an ad in print, like a newspaper, magazine, social media, or if you like even stand on the corner dressed up, but depending on your budget some of these will cost money, others will cost time. However, they can reach your target market instantaneously and be effective. So try some and see which ones you like best and stick with them. Do try other things you might be surprised at who you might meet.
Also, Understanding the importance of advertising in a multitude of places will be key to your success and maximize your exposure. Learn about the timing of advertising for your businesses. For instance in certain parts of the country business slows down. Like Arizona, it’s HOT! So What, right? I find that some business owners are charging full speed ahead with not boundaries. Wise! That way you are staying consistent and being an efficient marketer. Congratulations. It’s takes years to achieve this critical part of your business. Now let’s not forget about the cost of advertising. If you have a business plan like most do or need too, you can stay on budget for the most part but, this also needs to have some flexibility. Advertising costs can get out of control. Find some of the best avenues that have a cost that will allow you to advertise in several places at one time.
There will come the occasional time when you find a new venue for advertising your business. If it makes sense make it happen! Now let’s wrap up with these final thoughts. To get the results you desire, have a plan and stick to it. You will of course need follow through. What Women Need to Know about Financial Planning When I was a young woman, a male financial professional patted me on the head and told me not to worry about money. My husband would take care of me. It was in that moment that I knew my calling in life – to help women with financial planning. I believe that everyone – men and women – should understand personal cash flow, savings, and investment accounts. My specialty is the financial planning piece of the money puzzle.
Financial Planning Should Not Be Complicated When my clients come to me, it is my goal to make financial planning as uncomplicated as possible. We look at their personal finances and gather documents like investment and savings account statements prior to our first appointment.
At the first appointment, we get to know each other. I tell them how I get paid, the benefits of working with me because I am a fully licensed financial professional, and what they can expect when they work with me. I want my clients to have all the information they need to make an informed decision. Once we’ve gotten to know each other, they decide if they want to work with me. If they want to, I put together a plan of recommendations and we meet again to go over the plan. It’s a simple process.
Know Your Accounts Sometimes one spouse is more interested in handling money for the family and that’s okay. Even if one spouse handles the family finances or day to day budget, both of you should know exactly what accounts you have and have access to logins and statements.
In a worst case scenario like your spouse becoming incapacitated or dying, you need to have insurance, bank, and investment account information at the tip of your fingers to pay household bills and other expenses.

Having access to financial accounts is important for both spouses as well as having a will, living will, and power of attorney. An estate planning attorney can help you get these documents in order and recommend a safe place to store them.
Money is an ongoing conversation. No one likes to talk about money because it involves emotions and decision making but we have to talk to each other. Families need to know how to handle finances should we become incapacitated or worse. Set an appointment on a regular basis to review family finances with your spouse.

Women on a Mission to Earn Commission (WOAMTEC), a premier national networking organization, is putting down roots in Arizona, now hosting chapters in Scottsdale and Phoenix, with more coming soon. The Florida-based networking and business building group has more than 70 chapters nationwide. WOAMTEC targets women who balance multiple priorities, including faith, family, career, and business ownership.
When President and Founder Kathleen Hawkins started WOAMTEC in 2007, her goal was to create a networking group that allowed women to be women. Hawkins established a comfortable environment for women to mastermind, support, and challenge one another to reach their goals and share their successes. Membership includes category exclusivity—there is no direct business competition at a chapter meeting. Further, if members can’t make a meeting, they can send anyone from their office to attend that week. They can also invite guests to as many as two meetings before the guests have to become members. WOAMTEC provides empowering training programs, events, forums, products, webinars, socials, and workshops for its members and offers national exposure on the organization’s main website. The group prides itself on providing educational opportunities and business alliances to small business entrepreneurs all across America. How to Find Good Workers: Hire Them
In my work with small business owners, I hear all the time: “Wendy, I just can’t find good workers.” It’s as if they expect these mythical creatures to materialize before them, fully trained and ready to go. But that’s not how it happens. You don’t find good workers, you hire them. After 25 years as a hiring manager, here’s my approach. Name the position accurately. Do you need a true admin or an office manager? A bookkeeper or a controller? Keep track of all the duties you want the person to perform. Then figure out whether you’re asking too much—or too little. Define the duties and expectations: “Read my mind and do what I want” is not a useful job description. Better: “You’ll be our first client contact; you’ll create and maintain a filing system that works.” Is it a quantitative position—production oriented with a high level of monitoring? Or is it more qualitative, less able to be measured? Different roles require different personalities. Don’t be afraid to do a personality assessment—Kolbe, Myers-Briggs, and Elevate are a few of the more popular ones. Culture fit the candidate. You don’t have a culture? Yes you do! Every organization has a culture. Be selfaware. Are you a “jeans, tees, and tats okay as long as the work gets done” shop? Or are you a “punch the clock you have 60 minutes and not one second more for lunch” shop? No judgment—each has its pluses and minuses. The key is to know where you fit on the spectrum, and hire the person who fits with you. Find out the fair market wage—and beat it. Why? Because you get what you pay for. You want quality, pay for quality. It’s an investment. It doesn’t make sense to replace workers every three months if you can pay a little more to keep them longer. Finally, use your gut. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t make the hire. You’ll save yourself money and grief in the long run. And isn’t that what good workers always do?

Why Now is a Great Time to Buy a Home There are many reasons why now is an excellent time to buy a home. Are you on the fence? Do you own and want to move up or stop paying rent and build your own equity/investment? Below are a number of the good reasons why now is the right time to buy. Interest rates are still at historic lows and have been for quite some time, but how long will it last? My first home in the mid-1980s had an interest rate of 13.75% and even more recently in the summer of 2000, 30 year fixed rate mortgages were around 8.75%. Rates may never get to those levels again, fingers crossed, but they are great now! Low Down Payment Loans are available and even grant money. There are quite a few loan programs available in the market now. The VA loan available to active duty military or veterans can be obtained with no money down or low money down, can be used more than once and can go up to $1,000,000. FHA financing is available with a 3.5% down payment. You should check your market for the maximum loan limit. Conventional (Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac) financing offers a 3% 1st time homebuyer (or not have owned a home in 3 years) down payment program. Conventional loans also are available with 5, 10 or 20% down payments. Mortgage Insurance Premiums are lower. FHA lowered the mortgage insurance premiums for their loans a half a percent in 2015. Conventional PMI is also lower with higher FICO scores. Home Values are going up in most areas. Affordable Housing Prices are going up and knocking some potential homebuyers out of the pool. If interest rates hikes follow in Q4 more may be knocked out.
Contrary to news releases, it’s not all that hard to get a mortgage. FICO score requirements are fairly low, 580 in some cases, but 620 or higher is optimal. Interest rates are tied to down payment and credit scores. The rental market is competitive. It almost takes as much information about you to rent a home as it takes to buy. Chicken Thighs Baked in Red Wine Recipe

1 1/2 cups red wine 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes 1/2 cup Brussels sprouts, halved 1/2 cup cremini mushrooms, halved 1 small onion or shallot, quartered 6-8 garlic cloves 1 tablespoon olive oil 2 bay leaves 2 teaspoons dried thyme 1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper Preheat oven to 400째F.
Place chicken thighs in a large baking pan. Put in tomatoes, mushrooms, brussels sprouts, garlic, onions, bay leaves and red wine. Top chicken and vegetables with dried thyme and salt & pepper then drizzle with olive oil. Depending on the size of your chicken thighs, bake for an hour to an hour and a half, until golden brown. Baste the chicken with the wine every 15-20 minutes and stir the ingredients around a bit. If your chicken is cooked and the wine is not yet cooked down, place chicken on a warm plate then cook the wine and vegetables more in the oven. Glühwein – Mulled Wine Recipe
1 bottle of bold dry red wine (I used a Cabernet Franc)
1/2 cup of brandy or rum (optional)
1 cup water
1 large orange, peeled then juiced
1 lemon, peeled
1 lime, peeled (optional)
1/2 cup agave syrup or sugar
5-6 whole cloves
1 nutmeg, about 10 gratings
1 cinnamon stick
1 vanilla bean, halved
2 star anise Peel large sections of skin from orange, lemon and lime. Over medium heat in a medium sized pot, pour in agave syrup and water, then add the peels and juice of the orange. Add the vanilla bean, cloves, star anise, cinnamon stick, and nutmeg gratings. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about an hour. The liquid will reduce, so after around 30 minutes, add in about a half cup of wine. This allows the flavors to infuse and will create a syrup.

When your syrup is ready turn the heat down to low and pour in the bottle of wine and brandy. Bring back to a gentle simmer and heat for about 5 minutes or depending on how much alcohol you want to burn off you can simmer a bit longer. Ladle it into glasses and serve warm. Classic Tiramisu Recipe Start...8 ounces Italian mascarpone cheese
8-10 ladyfingers (Italian savoiardi cookies)
2 small egg yolks (or 1 extra large)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 double shot or 2 ounces espresso or extra strong coffee, cooled
1 1/2 tablespoons brandy or dark rum
1-2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
chocolate shavings for garnish (optional) In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar and half of the brandy. Whip fast to thicken. Then, spoon by spoon fold in mascarpone. Mixture should be a little softer than the consistency of mayonnaise. If mixture isn’t thick enough and comes out runny, use a hand blender with whipping blades to thicken. On a small plate, mix espresso plus the rest of brandy. Quickly dip each side of the ladyfingers (do not completely soak), then add a layer to the bottom of your serving dish. Top with about 1/3 of mascarpone mixture, then repeat and top with the rest of the mixture. Cover and rest in fridge for 4 hours or overnight. Sprinkle cocoa and chocolate shavings on top before serving. A note on plating/serving: I made this dish on a small plate because my cream mixture always comes out pretty thick so it will stand on its own. Obviously feel free to use a traditional square pan to prepare your tiramisu in.
