Welcome to PICA The Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts is celebrating 30 years in 2019. We invite you to discover our year-round program of changing exhibitions, seasons in contemporary dance, theatre and performance, talks, events and workshops.

Accessibility Our gallery, bathrooms and performance space are accessible by wheelchair. Companion Card holders are welcome to attend any performance presented by PICA as complimentary guests. Large print versions of texts are available from PICA Reception upon request.

For special access requirements, please contact PICA so we can make your experience as comfortable as possible. Companion card and wheelchair bookings for performances can be made over the phone or in person at PICA.

A Call To Dance Amrita Hepi

It’s your move

7 - 18 May WA PREMIERE

Tickets: $10 Duration: 40 minutes

Join acclaimed choreographer and dancer Amrita Hepi for a yarn about heritage, belonging, public expression and cultural authenticity.

Each evening, she’ll perform the moves discovered that day. At the end of her residency, Amrita will create a performance that captures the character and people of Perth.

Together you’ll come up with a small movement of personal rebellion: a move that’s all about you.

Jupiter Orbiting Joshua Pether

Body politics + sci-fi

22 – 25 May WA PREMIERE

Tickets: $15 – $32 Duration: 50 minutes

Independent creator and performer of Kalkadoon heritage, Joshua Pether combines movement, sound and video to take us on a sci-fi adventure in his second solo work. Charting experiences of isolation and distance, this physical and ritualistic performance negotiates personal identity and body politics.

A meditation on time, perspective and the moment of death.

This sensory and temporal experience explores states of transition and the synergy between light, sound and the body.

i have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night is a cinematic installation of improvised light and sound. A single human body becomes an abstracted focal point — a disembodied drishti within an unfolding science fiction odyssey.

Sheets of Sound Louise Devenish 28 – 29 June WORLD PREMIERE

Tickets: $15 – $32 Duration: 70 minutes

Sheets of Sound is the latest solo project from award-winning percussionist Louise Devenish. Featuring two new commissions composed by Annie Hui-Hsin Hseih and Matthias Schack-Arnott, this tactile sound world diversifies the sonic possibilities of metal, paper, plastic, skin, traditional percussion instruments and electronics.
