Welcome to PICA The Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts is celebrating 30 years in 2019. We invite you to discover our year-round program of changing exhibitions, seasons in contemporary dance, theatre and performance, talks, events and workshops.

Accessibility Our gallery, bathrooms and performance space are accessible by wheelchair. Companion Card holders are welcome to attend any performance presented by PICA as complimentary guests. Large print versions of texts are available from PICA Reception upon request.

Termite Economies (Phase One) Nicholas Mangan Until 6 October 10am – 5pm | Tues - Sun Termite Economies (Phase One) digs deep into the lives of termites. Delving into the links between termite colonies and gold mining, Mangan reflects upon the Australian landscape and how it has been reshaped by the mining industry. Using historical research from the CSIRO, Mangan explores the activity of termites through film and sculpture, exploring the behaviour of these industrious insects and how they could lead to increased efficiency in gold exploration.

Trying to Find Comfort in An Uncomfortable Chair Agatha Gothe-Snape with the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art Until 6 October

Trying to Find Comfort in an Uncomfortable Chair is the outcome of research undertaken by leading Sydney based artist Agatha Gothe-Snape into artworks held in the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art.

Discover a dream-like space of contemplation and reflection, featuring a selection of artworks from the collection along with chairs belonging to the artworks’ creators and Gothe-Snape’s own response to key motifs from her research. Unfolding Acts New Art from Taipei and Perth 19 October – 22 December 10am – 5pm | Tues - Sun An exhibition that marks the 20th anniversary of the Charter of Mutual Friendship between the cities of Perth and Taipei, Unfolding Acts brings together artists whose practices examine the social, cultural and historical fabric of these two cities, while exploring shared experiences of colonisation, hidden economic systems and enduring natural landscapes.

Untitled (Uura) Curtis Taylor 19 October – 22 December 10am – 5pm | Tues - Sun Perth based Martu artist Curtis Taylor presents Untitled (Uura), a solo exhibition that brings together multiple streams of his practice including sculpture, installation and film.

Through these forms, Taylor asserts narratives of cultural and personal identity, creating immersive spaces occupied by language and ritual that explore the edges of life and death.
