This after school academic program is designed to teach students successful communication, argumentation and self-advocacy. The class goal is to provide foundational tools to improve a student’s ability to engage in research, critical thinking and public speaking that will not only prepare them for future academic endeavors, but success in higher education and in their careers. The course will consist of lectures, drills and activities, group research, collaborative work and practice “mock” debates. By the end of the class, students are expected to be able to thoroughly research a variety of topics, prepare arguments in favor and in opposition of the topic, write working documents and organize materials, engage in oratorical advocacy and impromptu refutations. Students will be prepared to participate in the competitive 7th and 8th Grade PMS Debate team that competes in the East Bay Debate League. Wed

Aloha Mind Math Ages 6–10 Become a math rock star! This program will present math in a hands-on, engaging and fun environment. Your child will learn to use an abacus and mental math techniques that broaden their understanding of math. Public Speaking: Confident Speakers & Writers ages 7–12

Being able to communicate effectively and confidently has immeasurable benefits in students’ professional and personal lives. Bring out confidence in your children! They learn how to stand tall and speak confidently in front of a group. They begin to understand the concepts and importance of maintaining eye contact, good posture, volume, and expressions. This class helps them give structure to their thoughts improving their writing skills. Shy as well as talkative one’s alike benefit from this class as we do fun activities including tongue-twister challenges, storytelling, poem recitals and presentations. Wed

Join the award-winning PMS Debate Team where students learn debate fundamentals and techniques including research competence, evidence evaluation, public speaking, media literacy, conflict resolution, critical thinking and critical listening. Beginner to advanced debaters are welcome. The class work will consist of lectures, drills and activities, group research, collaborative work and practice “mock” debates. This will be in person after school class, however some tournaments and practices may be online based if health conditions warrant.. Mon/Wed

With projects such as creating stories from pictures, writing rhyming poems, and defining strange objects, we make learning easy and exciting!
