Alder The ideal owner of Alder wand is not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likeable.

Black Walnut Less common than the standard walnut wand, that of black walnut seeks a master of good instincts and powerful insight. Black walnut is a very handsome wood, but not the easiest to master.

WAND WOOD 101

Oak A wand for good times and bad, this is a friend as loyal as the wizard who deserves it. Wands of English oak demand partners of strength, courage and fidelity.

Cedar The cedar wand finds its perfect home where there is perspicacity and perception. Something that goes against Slughorn’s personality, as he was not particularly perceptive.

Acacia A very unusual wand wood which creates tricky wands that often refuse to produce magic for any but their owner, and also withhold their best effects from all but those most gifted.

Apple Applewood wands are not made in great numbers. They are powerful and best suited to an owner of high aims and ideals, as this wood mixes poorly with Dark magic.

Alder The ideal owner of Alder wand is not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likeable.

Chestnut Chestnut wands prefer witches and wizards who are skilled tamers of magical beasts. Which explains why a chestnut wand chose Kettleburn, a former professor of Care of Magical Creatures.

mortentia is the most powerful love potion in existence. It’s considered to be a powerful and highly dangerous potion. As stated it’s dangerous to underestimate a powerful infatuation. However, it doesn’t create real love; it’s impossible to create or imitate the real thing. The person under the effect of the potion will have a strong obsession for the person who give it. The effects of the potion on a person are described to be near instantaneous; with the person who drank the potion appearing “pale and sickly” and becoming obsessed with the object of their affections, speaking of them as though “hit by a ray of purest sunlight” and becoming excited or dangerously unstable towards others.

What are you up to right now? Writing my next book! I’ve just had a new adventure defeating a great powerful- ah I must not tell you. You can read it later yourself ! I’m sure the book will be in every shop worth your visit. What do you do on your spare time? I’m a very admired man and I care about my fans and their adoration of me. So even when I have some spare time, I give back to the people and try to sign as many pictures of myself as possible. I’m always running out! Everyone wants one!

Order of Merlin, Third Class; Honourary Member of the Dark Force Defence League; and -most importantlyfive time winner of With Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. I don’t have time for fear. What inspires you to be such a brave person? Oh, I wouldn’t call myself brave, but if that’s what the people are saying of me, then I’d have to agree. I would say that I inspired myself, yes. I inspired myself to be the person that I am today. Deciding to start that school newsletter when I was still a Hogwarts student really encouraged me to start writing for my own, because nothing is better than seeing my name and my photograph in print. Oh, and one more thing… I admire bravery – on myself and on other people. I am glad to be known as someone

When I actually become a- [laughter], oh, how funny. Aren’t I already a celebrity right now? Why would you be interviewing me, then? I mean, look at all the achievements I’ve made. But to answer that question, it’s satisfying, it makes me happy. All the book signings, the publicity photos, the fame. It’s all I’ve ever dreamed of. Are you single? (Laughs) Why use labels? Say, are you? How would someone get your special attention? That’s easy. Although I’m a very busy man, I always have time for my fans. Just come up to me with my books and I’ll sign them all. You have millions of fans from around the world. Would you date one of them? I think they are exactly the people who understand how unique and -well, as I’ve said, special- I am. So as long as we have that connection, I’m open to it. Can you tell us about your wand? What else is there to tell about my 9-inch, cherry wand with a dragon heartstring core? It’s the best wand there is. We heard that you’re going to teach at Hogwarts. How do you feel about this?

Tremendous! I’ll say it right here on the record that yes, the rumours are true. I am going to finally grace Hogwarts and its students with my presence. With my experience, I think we both know that Defence Against the Dark Arts is going to be the most anticipated class this year. You know The Boy Who Lived also attend there. What do you think about this? We’re talking about Harry Potter. The Harry Potter. Of course, I’m ecstatic! He’s—he’s famous! We’re very good friends! He’s a big fan of mine! I look forward to seeing him again. I have to speak with him as soon as possible. Maybe he can help me with my career. I think he has what it takes to one day accomplish the things I have. What will you expect from Hogwarts? The first time I stepped into the place, I was a student, and I was surrounded by people who underestimated me and thought I was a nobody. But that will not happen this time! Later on, when I step into Hogwarts, everybody will know who I am and they will appreciate the fact that I even took time to teach at Hogwarts due to all the fame I have going on. If you weren’t a celebrity, what would you be up to right now? If I didn’t have the status I do? Wow, um... Well I suppose I would be off on even more adventures against dark creatures. But word about that would get out and people would still hear about the Lockhart name. Really, I can’t quite picture the people now knowing of my stories.

WHY MUGGLES DON’T BELIEVE IN MAGIC?

Muggles

W

e’ve all thought it, haven’t we? There’s no shame in it. It’s entered every wizard’s mind. In fact, let’s all give a hard look at this particular phenomenon. Why don’t muggles believe in magic? Let’s face it, as much as we’ve tried our best to keep our world hidden from muggles, there’ve been some slips here and there, and quite a few things that simply have been left plainly magical right under their noses.

17  |  Wizarding–13

Muggles

I

ncidents where muggles have spotted several “unusual” things, for instance a flying ford anglia sighted flying low in the sky and an unexplainable rise in the number of owls crowding the very same sky when certain celebratory news about the fall of He-Who-Must-Not-BeNamed spread, have occurred. Not to mention apparent magical properties in what seems to appear as ordinary muggle things, such as the doorway to Platform 9¾ or to St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries and the whizzing Knight Bus that pushes away everything and everyone in its way. So why don’t muggles believe in magic when magic itself is always just a corner away?

as miracles and all powerful gods and fate. They don’t necessarily call these entities magic, but it’s what they have that’s closest to wizardry. In fact, what they really do call magic are attractions performed by tricksters on stages and during festivities. These include trivial acts such as fooling the audience into believing that they’ve succeeded in reading their minds, cutting a scantily-dressed woman into two separate halves, and pulling out various animals from an article of clothing. This can easily be seen as a disgrace to what wizardry and magic truly is.

“Muggles believe in magic such as miracles and all powerful gods and fate. They don’t necessarily call these entities magic, but it’s what they have that’s closest to wizardry.”

One theory that’s been put forth is that they simply don’t notice magical occurrences. Muggles have got it drummed into their heads that magic doesn’t exist for such a long time that it’s seen as a fact, and anytime they do encounter magical events, they simply ignore it. Those events are simply filed away as an odd sighting or “one of those weird affairs that happen once in a while”. They simply refuse to really put any real thought or effort into figuring out what it is they’re seeing that they never uncover the truth at all. This is denial at its very best. Another interesting theory is that they actually do believe in magic, just not exactly the magic we know to be real and powerful. Muggles believe in magic such

An exclusive interview with Gilderoy Lockhart Order of Merlin, Third Class; Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defence League; and five time winner of the Most Charming Smile Award reveals a quite interesting theory that frankly a large number of the wizarding population has taken up. “Well, muggles aren’t exactly the brightest bulbs in the shed, are they?” Lockhart emits a guffaw with his dazzling set of pearly whites. “They wouldn’t know magic existed if it sat on their lap and made them a firewhiskey–much less understand it.” Numerous groups of wizards have believed in this theory for as long as they can remember, although some wizards have objected to it from time to time. Those wizards see this theory as an understatement to the minds of muggles and that it shows an unfortunate side of wizards’ connection with the rest of the world. No one can truly say which theory is the real reason behind why muggles refuse to believe that magic exists. The only thing we know is that they don’t, and wizards are better off that way.
