G ATHERING IN THE P RESENCE OF THE R ISEN C HRIST
PRAYER OF PREPARATION
Gracious God, whose power is made perfect in weakness, whose wisdom appears as foolishness in this world, we thank you for the scandal of the cross. Amen.
VOLUNTARY Attende Domine Lynn Trapp
Hear us, almighty Lord, show us your mercy. Sinners, we stand before you.
INTROIT There is a Balm in Gilead
Arr. by Mark Hayes
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. Sometimes, I feel discouraged and think my work’s in vain, but then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again. There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. If you can’t preach like Peter if you can’t preach like Paul. You can tell the love of Jesus and say, “He died for all.” There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul, to heal the sin-sick soul.

† PRAYER OF THE DAY

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Rev. Drumheller
God of righteousness, we confess that have not kept your commandments. We bow down before idols, declaring our allegiance to other powers and principalities. We take your name in vain, using it to justify our own prejudices and opinions. We do not make adequate time to rest and remember your goodness, nor to revel in the delight of family and friends. Our dishonesty and greed get the better of us. Yet you gave us commandments not for condemnation, but so that we might live in justice and joy. Purify us by your righteousness and enfold us in your grace. Sanctify our intentions and actions.

SERMON “The Destruction that Brings Life” Rev. Drumheller
† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Philippians 2:5-11
We believe in Jesus Christ, who, though he existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, assuming human likeness. And being found in appearance as a human, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross. Therefore, God exalted him even more highly and gave him the name that is above every other name, so that at the name given to Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
† THE PEACE
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.
