G ATHERING IN THE P RESENCE OF THE R ISEN C HRIST

PRAYER OF PREPARATION

O God, you are beyond our wildest imagining. When we try to speak of you there really are no words to describe your majesty and power. We know you best in the life of Jesus of Nazareth who shared your love with all he met. We want to be faithful as Christ was faithful. Bless our worship today that we may be a blessing to others. Amen.

OF CONFESSION

God of grace, love and communion, we confess that we have failed to love you with all our heart, soul and mind; and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We ignore your commandments, stray from your way, and follow other Gods. Have mercy on us. Forgive our sin and raise us to new life that we may serve you faithfully and give honor to your holy name.

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

reprinted with permission from The Iona Abbey Worship Book We believe in God around us, maker and sustainer of all life; of sun and moon, of water and earth, of all peoples. We believe in God beside us, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. Born of a woman, servant of the poor, tortured and executed, a man of sorrows, he died forsaken. He descended into the earth to the place of death. On the third day he was raised from the tomb. He ascended into heaven to be everywhere present and his kingdom will come on earth. We believe in God within us, the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire, life-giving breath of the church, Spirit of healing and forgiveness, source of resurrection and eternal life. Amen.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM

O God Beyond All Praising Gustav Holst, arr. by Rodney Abriol O God beyond all praising, we worship you today and sing the love amazing that songs cannot repay; for we can only wonder at every gift you send, at blessings without number and mercies without end; we lift our hearts before you and wait upon your Word, we honor and adore you, our great and might Lord. Then hear, O gracious Savior, accept the love we bring, that we who know your favor may serve you as our King; and whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill, we'll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you still: to marvel at your beauty and glory in your ways, and make a joyful duty our sacrifice of praise. And whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ill, we'll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you still: to marvel at your beauty and glory in your ways and make a joyful duty our sacrifice of praise.

F LOWER D EDICATION

The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of William Neff by Barbara Neff.

The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in honor of Amy Chick’s birthday by Rebecca Chick.

On Memorial Day, it's essential to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who served and continue to serve our nation. This day is not just about barbecues and sales but about honoring the brave men and women who have given their lives to protect the freedoms we hold dear.

To all the veterans, active-duty service members, and their families: thank you. Your dedication, courage, and selflessness do not go unnoticed. You have shown unwavering commitment to our country, and for that, we are eternally grateful. On this Memorial Day, let's take a moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Let's honor their memory by striving to uphold the values they fought to defend. Whether through a simple thank you, a moment of silence, or an act of service, let's show our appreciation for the heroes who have given everything for us.

May we never forget the debt we owe to those who have served, and may their legacy continue to inspire us to strive for a better, more just world.
