Yet we are too timid to bear the fruit of your righteousness, for we walk by sight and not by faith.

Pine Street Ensemble Come, ye disconsolate, wher’e’er ye languish. Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel. Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish; earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Joy of the desolate, light of the straying, hope when all others die, fadeless and pure!

Here speaks the Comforter, tenderly saying, “earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot cure.”

June 16: The Art of the Memoir (or Why You Shouldn’t Write a Memoir) One of the most popular literary forms today has its roots in Christian faith. St. Augustine wrote a memoir—The Confessions—which continues to be the model on which memoirs are written. Doug will explore the history of the memoir, sample a few of the best, and offer encouragement to anyone who wants to write a personal story.

Rev. Douglas J. Brouwer was ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament at Pine Street in September 1980 and was an associate pastor for five years. He then served churches in Illinois, Michigan, and Florida, and retired in 2018 from the International Protestant Church in Zürich, Switzerland. A memoir about his 40 years of

ministry, Chasing After Wind: A Pastor’s Life, will be published later this year.
