PRAYER OF PREPARATION

Creator God, you made all that is, both seen and unseen. You made us in your image that we might reflect your goodness, wisdom and love. As we gather around Word and Table this day, may our faith be renewed that we may serve you with gladness. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP

One: What is this company of people?

Many: This is the company of the children of God, gathered in God’s holy name.

One: Where do you come from?

Many: We come from all places, that we may become brothers and sisters in one place.

One: What is your purpose?

Many: We gather to worship God, to love one another and to respect all that God has created. † HYMN 14 For the Beauty of the Earth

† PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God: We confess that we have too often acted as if we can earn your love and have forgotten your free gift of grace. We want to impress you and others, but we have lost our way. Forgive us when we forget that we are your children and find our identity in the messages of our culture rather than your Word. Help us to live as your heirs, children who belong to you, who you love more than we can understand. Show us how to love and trust you with all our hearts. Through Christ our brother and Lord, we pray. Amen.

† ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: Children of God. Hear the good news. By grace, God’s free gift of love, our sins are forgiven.

Many: But we do not deserve and cannot earn God’s love.

One: Such is the nature of God’s love and grace. Children of God. Believe the good news. In Jesus Christ our sins are forgiven.

Many: Thanks be to God. Amen.

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM My Jesus, I Love Thee Adoniran Gordon, arranged by Dan Forrest

My Jesus, I love thee; I know thou art mine. For thee all the follies of sin, I resign. My gracious Redeemer, my Savior, art thou, if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now. I’ll love thee in life, I will love thee in death, and praise thee as long as thou lendest me breath; and say when the death dew lies cold on my brow, if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now. In mansions of glory and endless delight, I’ll ever adore thee in heaven so bright. I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, ‘tis now.

† PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; Praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise triune God, whom we adore. Amen.
