CALL TO WORSHIP
One: In the beginning, before time, before people, before the world began
Many: God was.
One: Here and now among us, beside us, enlisting the people of earth for the purposes of heaven,
Many: God is.
One: In the future, when we have turned to dust, and all we know has found its fulfillment,
Many: God will be.
One: Not denying the world, but delighting in it, not condemning the world, but redeeming it, through Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit,
Many: God was, God is, God will be.
One: Come, let us worship God!
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, we equate our judgment with your judgment and often consider our ways to be yours. We define peace as the absence of disruption. We hold our comfort as your aim and think our preferences reflect your way. Too often, we act as your authoritative witnesses, believing that our understanding contains your hope for the future. Forgive our selfish views. Dislodge us from our sinful assumptions.

† HYMN 307 God of Grace and God of Glory

† ASSURANCE OF PARDON
One: Friends, hear the good news of the gospel – God’s radical forgiving, transforming, and justice-seeking love will not let us go and is ever bringing resurrection and new life.
Many: Let us remember our baptisms and trust in God’s mercy to restore our right standing as God’s own. Thanks be to God!
† GLORIA GLORIA PATRI
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
A Brief Statement of Faith
We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love, God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image, male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God’s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God’s condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still.
† THE PEACE
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM Courage, My Heart Georg Böhm, ed. K. Lee Scott Courage, my heart, the love of God embracing, Jesus will never leave, my soul forsaking, ne’er leave, my soul forsaking, though to a cross my way should lead. When in your pain, when in your pain for help your heart is sighing, when in pain, when in pain your heart is sighing, yet wait in peace: When you are faint dying, Jesus shall then be at your side, for Christ shall then be at your side, for Christ shall be at your side.
† PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; Praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise triune God, whom we adore. Amen.
