Pine Street is a Welcoming Church, Glorifying God through Worship, Fellowship and Service in the World.
Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost
PRAYER OF P
Dayspring from on high, break the cover of clouds that we might glimpse you as our own selves glorified above the grasp of sin and death. And, O Lord, fill us with your life eternal, that we might be your own flesh on earth. Amen.
VOLUNTARY Jesus, Lover of My Soul Don Hustad
(Please use the opening voluntary as a time of silent meditation and preparation for worship.)
SALUTATION Estelle Hartranft
One: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Many: And blessed be God’s kingdom, now and forever.
INTROIT Give Me Jesus
Moses Hogan
In the morning, when I rise, give me Jesus. Give me Jesus, you may have all this world; give me Jesus. Dark midnight was my cry; give me Jesus. Give me Jesus, you may have all this world; give me Jesus. Oh, when I come to die, oh, when I come to die, give me Jesus. Give me Jesus, nobody but Jesus, you may have all of this world, give me Jesus. Nobody but Jesus, oh, you may have all of this world, give me Jesus.
† Those able are invited to stand Bold text is read or sung by all
One: Even the sparrow finds a home and the swallow finds a nest at your altars, O Lord.
Many: Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise.
One: Happy are those whose strength is in you, in whose hearts are the highways of Zion.
Many: As they go through the valleys, they make it a place of springs. They go from strength to strength.
One: Come, let us worship the God of gods in Zion!
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, when we hear your good news, we confess that we find it challenging, if not harsh. Where we could find a call to serve, we see an inconvenient burden. Where we could find companions along the way, we see irreconcilable differences. Where we could find your life-giving presence, we see something embarrassing, if not improper. As one who took on our flesh and dwells within us, overturn our stubbornness and rule in our hearts as Lord. Help us to see your glory in the midst of decay, that we might declare your kingdom soon to come in fullness. † SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION
One: Hear the good news! Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation.
Many: The old life has gone; a new life has begun. Thanks be to God.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

SERMON “From Scratch” The Rev. Seelman
† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from John 1
And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. It is the only Son, himself God, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.
†
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Many: And also with you.

ANTHEM Like as the Hart Samuel Liddle
Like as the hart desireth the water-brooks: so longeth my soul after Thee, O God. My soul is a-thirst for God, yea, even for the living God: when shall I come to appear before the presence of God? My tears have been my meat day and night: while they daily say unto me, where is now thy God? Like as the hart desireth the water-brooks: so longeth my soul after Thee, O God.
† PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; Praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise triune God, whom we adore. Amen.
† PRAYER OF DEDICATION
One: The Lord be with you.
Many: And also with you.
One: Lift up your hearts.
Many: We lift them to the Lord.
One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
Many: It is right to give God thanks and praise.
… revealed as your Son:
The prayer continues. … and serve as your priestly people:
One: In your mercy, Many: Lord, hear our prayer.
… now and forever.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
One: The gifts of God for the people of God.
Many: Let us keep the feast.
