All Saints Day

G ATHERING IN THE P RESENCE OF THE R ISEN C HRIST

PRAYER OF PREPARATION

Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son, Christ our Lord. Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Savior, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

CALL TO WORSHIP

One: The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God.

Many: God finds them worthy of himself; like gold in the furnace he tried them. Like a burnt offering, he accepted them.

One: In due time they will shine forth and run like sparks through the stubble. Many: Those who trust in God will abide with him in love. His grace and mercy are upon them.

One: God watches over his church, visible and invisible. Let us worship the Lord with the communion of saints!

HYMN 321 The Church’s One Foundation AURELIA

† PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, in every age you have raised up men and women to live and die in faith. We confess that we are indifferent to your will. You call us to proclaim your name, but we are silent. You call us to do what is just, but we remain idle. You call us to live faithfully, but we are afraid. In your mercy, forgive us. Give us courage to follow in your way, that joined with those from ages past, who have served you with faith, hope, and love, we may inherit the kingdom you promised in Jesus Christ. † SILENCE FOR PERSONAL CONFESSION

† ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: Believe the good news of the gospel. The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us. In Jesus Christ you are forgiven.

Many: Thanks be to God.

† GLORIA GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

SERMON “A Future with Hope” The Rev. Seelman

† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH adapted from the Confession of 1967

The reconciling work of Jesus was the supreme crisis in the life of humankind. His cross and resurrection become personal crisis and present hope for mortals when the gospel is proclaimed and believed. In this experience the Spirit brings God’s forgiveness to us, moves us to respond in faith, repentance, and obedience, and initiates the new life in Christ. Life in Christ is life eternal. The resurrection of Jesus is God’s sign that he will consummate his work of creation and reconciliation beyond death and bring to fulfillment the new life begun in Christ.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.
