Twenty-Sixth Sunday after Pentecost

G ATHERING IN THE P RESENCE OF THE R ISEN C HRIST

PRAYER

OF PREPARATION

Son of our sorrows, only you can push aside what holds us from fully entering your presence. Turn our mourning into dancing, that this morning we might praise you in body, mind, and spirit as our resurrected Lord. Amen.

VOLUNTARY Meditation on Coronation arr. by Sandra Eithun

(Please use the opening voluntary as a time of silent meditation and preparation for worship.)

SALUTATION

One: Keep silence before the Lord God! Many: The day of the Lord is at hand.

INTROIT Mothering God

Marty Gruver

Tom Trenney

Mothering God, you gave me birth in the bright morning of this world. Creator, source of every breath, you are my rain, my wind, my sun. Mothering Christ, you took my form, offering me your food of light, grain of life, and grape of love, your very body for my peace. Mothering Spirit, nurturing one, in arms of patience, hold me close, so that in faith I root and grow until I flower, until I know. So that in faith I root and grow, until I flower, until I flower, until I know.

“Not a Stone Left on Stone” The Rev. Dr. McLeod

Adapted from Westminster Shorter Catechism

Christ the Son of God, became man by taking to himself a true body and a reasonable soul, being conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost in the womb of the Virgin Mary and born of her, yet without sin. Christ executes the office of a prophet in revealing to us by his Word and Spirit the will of God for our salvation. Christ executes the office of a priest in his once offering up himself as a sacrifice to satisfy divine justice and reconcile us to God, and in making continual intercession for us. Christ executes the office of a king in subduing us to himself and in ruling and defending us. Christ’s exultation consists in his rising again from the dead on the third day, in ascending up into heaven, in sitting at the right hand of God the Father, and in coming to judge the world at the last day. We are made partakers of the redemption purchased by Christ by the effective application of it to us by the Holy Spirit.

† THE PEACE

One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

Many: And also with you.
