Dear Friends, Another summer greets us with its long, sunshine-filled days, hot summer nights and, of course, endless opportunities for adventure. Kids are out of school and a desire for freedom and fun fill the air. South Seas is synonymous with summer. From gentle breezes to lazy days on the beach or by the pool, to festive dining, watersports, sailing, s’mores, fire pits and stars, we offer the backdrop for those special summer moments and memories, no matter your age. Return guests know our 330-acre wildlife preserve is brimming with treasures at every turn - hidden amongst the mangroves, in the marina, and, of course, throughout our 2.5 stretch of private, white-sand beach. We’re excited to say that our beaches have never been more picturesque; the gentle waters of the Gulf of Mexico are Pine Island Sound are bluer than blue, and our sandy shores are strewn with shells, shorebirds, and sandy footprints. After a day of soaking up the sun in our island paradise, join us at our recently-updated Sunset Village for our nightly sunset shellebration featuring live music, bonfires and our “Wish Upon a Seashell” ceremony. Camp Skullywags’ Turtle Tots: Daily for young families, toddlers ages 4 and under can enjoy special activities just for them. Go! Fish: Guests can test their fishing skills right off our T-Dock with a Coordinator’s assistance. We supply the rod and bait for you and will teach you what type of fish are brought up. Every day is a field trip! This 501c3 nonprofit organization introduces students, ages 6 - 13 to the wonders of the marine world through meaningful, field-based ocean experiences. Children should arrive ready to get in the water, wearing sunscreen, a swimsuit, and water shoes. Ocean Camps are on selected days. Family guided nature tours are also available seasonally. As an example of our continued dedication to sustainability here at South Seas, we've debuted a vertical aeroponic tower garden just outside Harbourside Bar & Grill! If you're not familiar with this type of gardening, it's an efficient, sustainable way to grow plants in a small amount of space and with just water and nutrients. (No dirt required!) It's the same technology NASA uses - seriously! In ours, we're growing things like micro greens, lettuce, kale, peppers, and more. This produce will be used in dishes at Harbourside as well as throughout the resort. If you haven't seen it yet, take a look next time you're with us!

Mango Sunrise Piña Colada 2 oz coconut rum 2 oz mango juice 2 oz pineapple juice 1 tbsp. coconut cream 1 tbsp. grenadine Fresh pineapple garnish Add coconut rum, mango and pineapple juices to a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake well to combine and chill. Pour over ice into a cocktail glass. Add coconut cream slowly by pouring over the back of a spoon. Add grenadine by pouring slowly over top.
Grilled Scallops with Nori, Ginger, and Lime 1/3 cup mayonnaise 2 tsp. fresh lime juice Kosher salt 1 toasted nori sheet 1 tsp. ground coriander 1/2 tsp. ground ginger 2 tbsp. vegetable oil, plus more for grill 12 large dry sea scallops, side muscles removed, patted dry 1/2 lime 3 scallions, dark green parts only, very thinly sliced 1 tsp. Aleppo-style or other mild red pepper flakes or Gochugaru Prepare a grill for medium-high heat. Mix mayonnaise, lime juice, a pinch of salt, and 1 tbsp. water in a small bowl; set lime mayo aside. Finely grind nori in spice mill. Transfer half to a small bowl; set aside for serving. Transfer remaining nori to a large bowl and mix in coriander, ginger, and 2 tbsp. oil. Add scallops and toss to coat. Thread 3 scallops onto 2 skewers. (This will keep scallops in place and make them easy to turn. You can also use this method for shrimp and small peppers like shishito and Padrón.) Repeat with remaining scallops and skewers. Season both sides with salt. Clean and oil grate, then immediately place scallops on the outside edge of the grill so that the skewers are hanging off the side. Grill, turning scallops with handles of skewers, until grill marks appear and scallops are just cooked through, about 3 minutes per side, depending on their size. Spread lime mayo on a platter and place skewers with scallops on top. Finely grate zest from lime half over, then squeeze juice over. Top with scallions and sprinkle with Aleppo-style pepper and reserved nori.

The Hobie 16 World Championship!
South Seas Island Resort has been named the Official Host Hotel of the Hobie 16 World Championship. From Nov.1st-16th, 2019, the International Hobie® Class Association (IHCA) will bring its prestigious event to our location, marking the first time in 35 years that Hobie will host a World Championship in the U.S. The Hobie 16 World Championships is the only sailboat class in the world to supply brand new identical boats for all competitors to race. Hobie Cat Company will provide the boats that will be used exclusively on the race course, located just off Sunset Beach, at the north end of Captiva Island. Sailors from more than 30 countries will be competing in three world championship disciplines: Women’s, Youth, and Open, as well as three additional disciplines; Masters Cup, Grand Masters Cup, and Great Grand Masters Cup.
With pristine natural surroundings and a multitude of dining and recreational settings, South Seas Island Resort is perfect for the Hobie 16 World Championships. “We are sure when the Hobie sailors from around the world visit Fort Myers, their beaches and Captiva Island, they will be impressed and keep coming back for their holidays for many years”, said Rich McVeigh, IHCA president. The closest rooms to the sailing venue are the Harbourside guestrooms and the 2-bedroom Marina Villas. The 1 to 3-bedroom condos (Bayside/Beachside/ Tennis) are just a short walk away on other parts of the resort, and there is a continuously-running trolley for your convenience.
